We used this Hotel as a base, coming and going 3 times on our trip, as we caught trains or hired a car to explore other parts of the country. Hence, its location so near to the station & car hire was excellent. That was one of the main reasons we chose to stay there. However we were really happily surprised that we could rate it so highly in many areas, exceeding our expectations! Very helpful & friendly service, fabulous breakfasts, free wifi, papers, other info freely available ... and the great, efficient tram service nearby to whisk us into the city centre in a matter of minutes! They also minded our luggage free of charge while we took off for San Sebastian, Spain, for 3 days. It was so easy to just walk to the station to catch our 7.00am train to Paris. So glad we stayed there!

Within walking distance of the train station and easy acess to the city wide tram system. Not much of interest in the immediate area. Free wifi worked well

We stayed two separate times, a week apart. Both stays were comfortable and the front desk staff efficient and friendly. You can see this hotel from the train station, which is very handy, and it is right on the tram line. There is a seedy area a few blocks away, but you can avoid this area entirely by taking the tram from the station or from another stop about 2 blocks from the hotel. The rooms were a bit small, but surprisingly quiet for the location. I would definitely stay there again--it was very convenient for taking a rental car or train from the station. They held our luggage for us both times which made our sightseeing the day of departure very convenient. We did not take breakfast at the hotel--we used the Paul cafe in the station before boarding the tram.

It was perfect for us because we came to Bordeaux by train. It's not a terrific area for taking in the sights, but the new tram took us from the train station into the Golden Triangle in minutes. Staff was very helpful. I'd recommend it and definitely stay there again.

The room was fine. It was a bit noisy, but it was more due to stupid neighbours than the room itself. I rated the welcoming rather poorly because I am always insulted when a French from France doesn't understand a native French Canadian. We are not aliens. The hotel parking is not well indicated and expensive given that free parking is available in streets all around the hotel. The breakfast at the hotel is very expensive. You can eat somewhere nearby for 3-4 times less. The hotel is close to highways, which is nice if you want to drive around. Unfortunately, a lot of major road constructions were in progress at the time we visited and delays had to be expected. It is worth mentioning that "downtown" Bordeaux is at about 20 min walk. But you can always take the metro, the Gare St-Jean is just at the corner. A free Internet access would have been great, just like in many American hotels. It's a service that is pretty cheap to provide, in my opinion.

Very nice rooms for the price. The area is a little seedy but been across the road from the main train station and on a tram stop is worth it.

The room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The only problem: The offered price is valuable just for on-line-bookings. For a longer stay booked at the hotel you have to pay nearly double as much.

Cheap, clean and small. It was not easy to get there considering some of the one-way only streets around there. It has its own garage but no place to park in front of the door, the best trick is to park near a gate immediately after the hotel go in for the ck in and be surprised that the gate is the actual garage door for where you can park your car. Good location to use as a base for visiting the town, near the train station, taxis, and tram.

I was very suprised to find the hotel so close to the street full of sex shops and peep shows and there was constant noise from the railway station which is diredctly opposite

The hotel location is not as good as I wanted. The breakfast is expensive for the type of hotel. Not a bad option for one night. Very clean and helpful employees

The receptionist was extremely friendly and competent, spoke German. The area is in progress of reconstruction with some parts beautifully restored (e.g., the train station) and others still being very shady.

An acceptable hotel for an overnight stop. Its principal attraction is its location next to Bordeaux St Jean station. Directions were not clear, and the name is confusing - it appears to be known locally as Hotel Royale (not Amarys or StJean). Staff were welcoming and reasonably efficient. Rooms are rather cramped, though well soundproofed bearing in mind the location. Air conditioning was very efficient (and welcome) Breakfast was poor for the price, limited choice and I do not expect to be offered stale bread in a French hotel!

Clean but cramped quarters - classed as superior room, but had limited storage space; cramped washroom facilities. Surprisingly quiet despite downtown location near station with some questionable activities.

Rooms are too small for a three star facility, it was also futher away of the city center then we taught.
