I was really pleased with everything. The location was excellent for the Conservatorio, where I was working for most of the day, and central for sightseeing. The staff were courteous and attentive. Wonderful views of the city from the various terraces. Much the best hotel I stayed in during my 2 weeks in Italy, in 4 cities. Would not hesitate to return there.

I was in Bologna for the first time in order to go to a concert. Hotel San Donato was excellent since it is 10 min. walking from the place I had to go. I would really recommend to young singles / gay or atraight couples travelling or to businnesmen.

The hotel patio has a magnificent view of the two towers. It made the hotel special. Although breakfast, which is excellent, is served in an interior reoom it is possible to carry breakfast out to the patio.

This was our first time in Bologna and we were very positively impressed. Specially after some negative comments heard about Bologna before. If you like cities with lots of history and good food at accessible prices, you should go to Bologna.

Hotel very well situed in the center of bologna, very convenient and cool for the price. Less cool : shower only, there are no rooms with a bath. walls are very thin so you hear every neighbour's conversations... I'd recommend it anyway !

Concierge staff was very cordial and smiled all the way through. Breakfast staff was slightly less eager to please and smiley. Quality of continental breakfast wasn't really up to par. Some hotel finishings stuffy and old. Strange layout of hotel meant you had to do some walking and/or figuring out of where your room is. Beautiful terrace for breakfast.

There is a very noisy nightclub right next door and the noise is horrible - on Saturday night, University students partied loudly until 4 a.m.! If not for this, our stay would have been perfect. There is a lovely rooftop garden where you hear the church bells all over the city at six p.m. Breakfast is excellent, staff friendly and courteous. Rooms spacious and beautifully decorated. Fabulous view of the two towers and very convenient location - near everything. Get rid of that nightclub and you have the perfect hotel for a great stay in Bologna.

The view from the terrace of the room was breath-taking. The roofs, the towers, the churches, really fantastic and it gave a feeling of really being in Italy. The surroundings were quite noisy at night, plenty of more or less drunk students, but we had asked for a quiet room. Dinner at a very cool jazz club in Via Mascarella recommended by the staff of the hotel.Unfortunately we visited Bologna prior to the opera season, the hotel is situated very close to the opera house.

The best of this hotel is his location: in the super center of Bologna. The worst of this hotel is his location: being in an animated street, it is very loud during the night. For the rest, nothing exceptional. By the way, I didn't liked the breakfast (no fresh fruits and/or bread)

The reservation said the hotel was 400 meters from the train station which is about 1/4 mile. This is walking distance. It took us an hour on foot to find the hotel and asking directions three times. It was a 12 euro cab ride from the hotel to the station. I would advise taking a cab. This was the only complaint. Breakfast was very good and the room was great.

The hotel is perfectly located in the center of Bologna. The main sights are all in walking distance. Our room was very nice and had a small balcony. We very much enjoyed our breakfasts at the little terrace from where you have a nice view to the 2 towers. For Italian standards the breakfast is very good.

The hotel is near the University site, lot of Pubs and party on the street. Right in the middle to have a good time. Employees offered a very polite service. The rooms and breakfast are definetly not 4star. I see a lot hotels around the world and I would say it is hardly a 3 star hotel. No internet access, the room was clean, but all in a standard of the 80s. Breakfast was typical italien, but not very exciting. Stirred egg from spraydried egg powder, 2 diffrent cheeses, 1 sort of sausages plate, juice was an instant juice,..... but everything clean.

Generally quite a good value for money hotel especially given its size and that it is part of a chain of hotels. The room was very spacious and was well maintained, in good condition and quite modern in its decoration. The breakfast provided a good variety. The hotel had a carpeted lounge/dining area as well as a large breakfast room and a nice balcony - these facilities were quite pleasant. My main criticisms are that the reception staff were not that friendly and when I asked one of the girls on breakfast duty if she could recommend some good shopping areas she told me to go to the tourist information service, her colleague however provided some helpful information. Also the website stated that they have parking facilities but not that they charge 10-15 Euros a day for use of them.

Overall this is a good hotel and represents reasonable value for money. Will probably be back in Bologna and if so will be happy to stay there again. It is very well located although at the time of writing the hotel frontage is surrounded by scaffolding.

The hotel was in a good location but we were disappointed to find the building was completely surrounded by scaffolding and building work started at 7.00 in the morning - even on a Saturday - with thumping shaking the whole building. Also, the soundproofing between the rooms was terrible - I could hear showers/people peeing next door almost as though they were in the room.

Very enjoyable stay in an ideally located hotel moments walk from the centre of Bologne. Scaffolding covered the building so I cannot comment on the overall image. Staff were very pleasant. My wife was disappointed by the fact of no baths in spite of plenty of space to put them. My only downer would be the breakfast which was very basic. But the hotel being so convenient made the stay very enjoyable.

Arrived late after late flight (1am) and receptionist was not particularly friendly. We were a bit disappointed in the room - it seemed to be a bit dated, although it was very clean. The bathroom was ok, but the shower was small and old. Good breakfast and excellent service from breakfast staff. Overall, I expected a bit more from a 4 star hotel. The outside of the hotel was also under renovation when we stayed, so the view outside our window was of scaffolding. There was also a nightclub beneath the hotel, which was quite noisy in the evening - although it didn't keep us awake. However, the location of this hotel is excellent, just a short distance from numerous attractions - we walked everywhere.

I stayed in a single room at the San Donato for 1 week in July '04 while at a conference in Bologna. The room itself (359) is quite small, but it has a small balcony with a beautiful view and very nice bathroom. The bathroom is nearly as big as the bedroom. It was 100 F outside, so the air conditioning was helpful, but it would not cool the room below 75 F. The breakfast is very very good and eating on the lovely balcony overlooking the two towers is very nice. None of the desk workers were very friendly, though most of those working at the bar were quite nice. The location near the university district and the two towers is quite convenient, though it did seem quite seedy along Via Zamboni at night. I witnessed a drug arrest within 1 block of the hotel. Overall a positive experience.

A good hotel in an excellent central location. Because of narrow one-way streets in the old central district, this is a hard hotel to drive to. Parking is available but is expensive and not indicated on the web site.

The hotel was difficult to find, unless you were familiar with the one-way street plan in Bologna. We were not told beforehand that we had to use an intercom system to the hotel to lower the concrete barriers that prevented access to the street the hotel was located on. It was very hot (35deg) and the air-conditioning did not work properly. If the window was opened, a loud rock concert in the next street made sleep impossible.

Complicated to find the hotel in a car, as you have to push a button to get access into a blocked street. Very detailed instructions re: parking and arriving should be added. Kind, English-speaking staff. Room was very "standard" but clean and quiet. Hotel is in a great, central location -- so the price of the room was certainly good value.

As this is supposed to be a 4-star hotel, and one of the "better" ones in bologna, I am a disappointed: - the air condition in the bathroom was as loud as a tractor!! - unfortunately, the rooms were not as nicely equipped as shown on the photos of website: ours had grey, cold tiles on the floor, plastic door handles, a mouldy shower and no view...) - in addition, for the price we paid (140€), I have seen better quality breakfast buffets in italy!

We had requsted in advance a quietly situated room which we got. If this matters to you do take care as some of the rooms at the front of the hotel could be very noisy.
