Location was excellent, close to towers and piazza maggiore. Room had a lovely outlook, very romantic. Breakfast was rich, however more healthy options were required. Scenery from terraces were awesome. Public areas were very nice. Taxi from Ferrovia to hotel costs 10 e. Down to road to university area the area turn a bit more restless. Lot of graffities, hazy people etc. On the other hand students were of no disturbance. Bologna has a very beautiful old town. Great arches in the buildings.

Considering that this hotel was likely a nobleman's palace about 1,000 years ago, it is in pretty good shape and modernized enough. Be sure to get a room facing the back or it will be too noisy. Our room was perfect with a view of the bell tower and a bell concert at specific times. The bed was quite comfortable, the room smallish but fine, the TV too small, the bathroom just fine. the location in the old city is superb and we walked to every site and restaurant easily. The roof terrace is the best for rooftop views and coffee or cocktails. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Staff was amazingly helpful and friendly. The international guests were interesting to talk with in the lounge. We would stay here again.

The hotel has excellent staff especially the young ones who do breakfast/bar/room work. Always happy and smiling and courteous. They welcome you each day. Location of hotel is excellent for the towers and shopping, restaurants and places of interest. Great common areas, good breakfast and places to relax. A very well-run hotel.

This is a very nice hotel. The location is great and the views from the charming terrace are spectacular. The staff could not have been more helpful. The buffet breakfast and cappuccinos were great. The room was modest, but clean and fully adequate. The acoustics were noisy with all the tile, however, the hotel provides ear plugs so I would wear them next time so that I am not disturbed if my partner flushes the toilet in the middle of the night. I will definitely come back next time in Bologna.

Concierge staff was very cordial and smiled all the way through. Breakfast staff was slightly less eager to please and smiley. Quality of continental breakfast wasn't really up to par. Some hotel finishings stuffy and old. Strange layout of hotel meant you had to do some walking and/or figuring out of where your room is. Beautiful terrace for breakfast.

There is a very noisy nightclub right next door and the noise is horrible - on Saturday night, University students partied loudly until 4 a.m.! If not for this, our stay would have been perfect. There is a lovely rooftop garden where you hear the church bells all over the city at six p.m. Breakfast is excellent, staff friendly and courteous. Rooms spacious and beautifully decorated. Fabulous view of the two towers and very convenient location - near everything. Get rid of that nightclub and you have the perfect hotel for a great stay in Bologna.

The view from the terrace of the room was breath-taking. The roofs, the towers, the churches, really fantastic and it gave a feeling of really being in Italy. The surroundings were quite noisy at night, plenty of more or less drunk students, but we had asked for a quiet room. Dinner at a very cool jazz club in Via Mascarella recommended by the staff of the hotel.Unfortunately we visited Bologna prior to the opera season, the hotel is situated very close to the opera house.

The best of this hotel is his location: in the super center of Bologna. The worst of this hotel is his location: being in an animated street, it is very loud during the night. For the rest, nothing exceptional. By the way, I didn't liked the breakfast (no fresh fruits and/or bread)

The reservation said the hotel was 400 meters from the train station which is about 1/4 mile. This is walking distance. It took us an hour on foot to find the hotel and asking directions three times. It was a 12 euro cab ride from the hotel to the station. I would advise taking a cab. This was the only complaint. Breakfast was very good and the room was great.

The hotel is near the University site, lot of Pubs and party on the street. Right in the middle to have a good time. Employees offered a very polite service. The rooms and breakfast are definetly not 4star. I see a lot hotels around the world and I would say it is hardly a 3 star hotel. No internet access, the room was clean, but all in a standard of the 80s. Breakfast was typical italien, but not very exciting. Stirred egg from spraydried egg powder, 2 diffrent cheeses, 1 sort of sausages plate, juice was an instant juice,..... but everything clean.

Generally quite a good value for money hotel especially given its size and that it is part of a chain of hotels. The room was very spacious and was well maintained, in good condition and quite modern in its decoration. The breakfast provided a good variety. The hotel had a carpeted lounge/dining area as well as a large breakfast room and a nice balcony - these facilities were quite pleasant. My main criticisms are that the reception staff were not that friendly and when I asked one of the girls on breakfast duty if she could recommend some good shopping areas she told me to go to the tourist information service, her colleague however provided some helpful information. Also the website stated that they have parking facilities but not that they charge 10-15 Euros a day for use of them.

The hotel was in a good location but we were disappointed to find the building was completely surrounded by scaffolding and building work started at 7.00 in the morning - even on a Saturday - with thumping shaking the whole building. Also, the soundproofing between the rooms was terrible - I could hear showers/people peeing next door almost as though they were in the room.

Very enjoyable stay in an ideally located hotel moments walk from the centre of Bologne. Scaffolding covered the building so I cannot comment on the overall image. Staff were very pleasant. My wife was disappointed by the fact of no baths in spite of plenty of space to put them. My only downer would be the breakfast which was very basic. But the hotel being so convenient made the stay very enjoyable.

Arrived late after late flight (1am) and receptionist was not particularly friendly. We were a bit disappointed in the room - it seemed to be a bit dated, although it was very clean. The bathroom was ok, but the shower was small and old. Good breakfast and excellent service from breakfast staff. Overall, I expected a bit more from a 4 star hotel. The outside of the hotel was also under renovation when we stayed, so the view outside our window was of scaffolding. There was also a nightclub beneath the hotel, which was quite noisy in the evening - although it didn't keep us awake. However, the location of this hotel is excellent, just a short distance from numerous attractions - we walked everywhere.

I stayed in a single room at the San Donato for 1 week in July '04 while at a conference in Bologna. The room itself (359) is quite small, but it has a small balcony with a beautiful view and very nice bathroom. The bathroom is nearly as big as the bedroom. It was 100 F outside, so the air conditioning was helpful, but it would not cool the room below 75 F. The breakfast is very very good and eating on the lovely balcony overlooking the two towers is very nice. None of the desk workers were very friendly, though most of those working at the bar were quite nice. The location near the university district and the two towers is quite convenient, though it did seem quite seedy along Via Zamboni at night. I witnessed a drug arrest within 1 block of the hotel. Overall a positive experience.

The hotel was difficult to find, unless you were familiar with the one-way street plan in Bologna. We were not told beforehand that we had to use an intercom system to the hotel to lower the concrete barriers that prevented access to the street the hotel was located on. It was very hot (35deg) and the air-conditioning did not work properly. If the window was opened, a loud rock concert in the next street made sleep impossible.
