Week-end stay with mature family/friend group in two rooms The room my wife and I stayed in was smaller than a standard 4-star sized room. I think "compact" would be an apt decription but clean and functional in any way. Location in central Bergamo was excellent with easy access to transportation and facilities.

I had requested a quiet, triple room for myself, my sister and my 16 year old son. We were delighted to be placed in rooms 344 and 345 which is a single room and an adjoining twin bed room at the back of the hotel. My son loved having his own bathroom and t.v. The reception staff were highly professional, spoke excellent English and were very accomodating e.g they were able to supply the times for the bus to the airport and I have never had an ironing board and iron delivered so speedily to my room! The hotel was taking the opportunity to spring clean its rooms while we were there and a very thorough job was being done. This attention to detail was obvious in the cleanliness of our rooms which were spotlessly clean. Breakfast was served in a very pleasant dining room and there was a very large variety of foods available to meet all tastes and appetites. I would higly recommend this hotel to anyone stopping in Bergamo.

This hotel is very well-placed to enjoy all the delights of Bergamo. The bus into town from the airport cost 1.70 Euro and dropped me close to the hotel (this info was printed on my hotel booking form). Our room was very small but nicely furnished and immaculate - the church bells added to the experience. The breakfast buffet was not our best 'Best Western' experience but good generally with relaxed and friendly staff. Only drawback was having to get the porter to open the doors to the car park every time we needed to move the car. The restaurant looked a bit pricey but step outside and you'll be spoilt for choice for bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours

It is a nice hotel just in the center of Bergamo. We had a room for three persons, my two parents and me. Our room was at the side of the street. We didnot hear traffic and it was silent inside. We were really satisfied.

The hotel was well placed for anyone arriving by train: ten minutes walk in the direction of the lower city centre. Also on direct No.10 bus route to the upper town and (in the other direction) to the airport. The breakfast was large and varied, although the coffee and hot food (bacon and scambled eggs) were not quite hot enough. We very much appreciated the coffee/tea making facilities in our bedroom. This had a decent-sized balcony, with oleander (not, of course flowering in December), but without a view as our window faced onto a courtyard. No noise at night.

The hotel is perfectly located near the centre of the lower town, a short walk from the station in one direction and the funicular railway to the medieval town in the other. Although on a busy crossroads the hotel and the rooms are quiet and very comfortable. The staff are very helpful and the breakfast buffet is excellent. We have stayed in this hotel on a number occasions in recent years and it has been consistently good.

Three of us stayed in a really big triple room (the largest one I've ever stayed in). The room no. was 344/345 and contained two bathrooms which was great. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the room spotless and the breakfast good. I'II definitely stay here again. One drawback is you hear people waking around and taking in the room above and beside you which can be a bit of a nuisance. However, there was a couple of groups in the hotel so this was the reason for the noise. It only lasted a little while, and not something that would deter me from going back to the hotel.

As many budget airlines fly in late to Bergamo Airport (eg. Ryanair from UK), staying in Bergamo is a better option than travelling on to Milan late at night on the shuttle bus. This hotel is very conveniently located in the centre of Bergamo and only 15 minutes by bus from the airport terminal. Take bus no. 1 and get off at the next stop after the railway station on Viale Papa Giovanni which is directly opposite the hotel (fare 1.30 euro). Bus no.1 for the return to the airport stops directly outside the hotel and goes every 30 mins or it is a 300m walk back to the railway station for trains onwards to Milan Centrale or other destinations. The city bus tour also stops outside the hotel every 1 hour and is a good and quick way to explore the city. If you don't intend to spend much time in your hotel then the Best Western Cappello d'Oro would be a very good choice for a short stay in Bergamo. It is clean and functional. The rooms although a bit on the small side are perfectly adequate, the breakfast is very good and the reception staff are polite and speak English. Bergamo has an interesting old upper city and is a good place for a short break or an overnight stop before moving on to the Italian Lakes. We would stay here again and recommend this hotel.

To start with the room wasn't ready til 15.30.The older man on Reception was most unhelpful with a tendency to being obstructive during our stay and that of others but for us Marco, presumeably his boss, saved the day. The only other members of staff to recommend were the delightful man in charge of the dining room in the evening and a reasonably cheerful girl at Reception on our last morning. Those serving at morning breakfast avoided one's request or forgot what was ordered and the breakfast itself was memorable as the fruit was over ripe and one of the juices was fermenting in it's jug! We'd just left a 3 star in central Milan which was excellent by comparison.

The hotel is in a very good location; just a short walk from the train station where the bus from the airport drops you off. It's easy to find, quiet and well organised. Breakfast was excellent - with a wide range of choices. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. This is our third trip to Bergamo in the past 18 months as we like Bergamo and its surroundings very much - getting a train to Como or Milan is so easy and thankfully everyone speaks good English (as our Italian is limited to ordering a beer or glass of wine!). When we go again, we would definitely consider this hotel.

I booked a weekend break to Milan on the 20th Oct 07 for a birthday treat for my girlfriend and decided to book at the Best Western Cappello d'Oro. I spent quite a while looking at various hotels in the area but decided to stay in Bergamo as the train was very efficient to Milan from Bergamo, only about £8 return and 45 mins travelling time.( dont forget to get your ticket stamped BEFORE you board the train otherwise you can get a fine? dont ask just stamp it!! ) The location of this hotel was excellent, right in the centre of Bergamo and only a short taxi ( about £12 )to the old city at the top of Bergamo. I thought the taxis's in Bergamo were fairly expensive although very efficient. We got a taxi from the airport to the hotel for £12 but for some reason the taxi's in Bergamo were more for less miles travelled, city life i suppose. All in all the Hotel was very good although i would have liked the room a little bigger, Church bell rung from 7.30am and on the hour chimes Sat and Sun but was quite nice to wake to, with a banging head.... Hotel staff were fantastic and gave me directions to a birthday card shop as like a typical bloke, i forgot it, paid for the weekend trip though so my nuts were saved!!! I swiftly ran on the morning to get a lovely Italian card which the lady in the shop translated for me, very kind..Back at the room we had a knock on the door, we quickly disposed of our cig's out the window( which we picked up later) only to find the head chef walk in with 2 glasses of Champers and a lovely piece of cake with happy birthday written in melted choc !!! What a surprize and very thoughtful of the hotel receptionist. We had some lovely food in Bergamo old city on the Fri and on the Sat went to Milan for the day and i took my girlfiend to a superb restaurant on the Sat called , i'll post it later as i cant remember.

The hotel is very well situated, only 5 minutes easy walk from the railway station and has easy access to the old town. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room we had was very nice for the price, which was over looking the street, but not noisy. We only stayed 1 night, but would happily stay there again. This is a luxury hotel and the price (170 euros) reflected this. We booked a double room but were given a luxury suite for the same price. The room was immaculate and beautifully decorated, with a large bathroom/jacuzzi. As you'd expect from an American chain, there were english language channels on the TWO TVs in the room and lots of American guests in the dining room. Staff were cool, but friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was very good with a wide choice of both hot and cold dishes. No need for a taxi to the airport because there is a bus stop to the airport right outside the hotel, which is right in the centre of the new town, and also buses into the old city across the street.

Whilst this is a Best Western Hotel, it does not suffer from the same tired malaise of its counterparts in the USA. A friend had recommended Bergamo to us as a great short trip site. Ryanair offered cheap fares (no frills), and transport services were excellent, train, bus, taxi with public transport offering cheap fares. We took a bus trip to Lake Iseo -10.60 Euros return for 2 of us. The Citte Alte was an absolute delight and can recommend de Franco restaurant there. My only criticism of the hotel was the breakfast -stocks not topped up on regular basis and I was constantly waiting for fresh supplies.

Hotel well located for airport bus and for local transport. Welcoming staff attractive breakfast room and very good breakfast table. Stayed on two on seperate dates in February. All was quiet on our first stay. However, on the second visit the occupant of the room next door had a booming voice he spent most of the late evening and early morning on the telephone to anyone who cared to listen We didn,t but were forced to as the walls seemed to be non existent. Apart from this one moan all else was excellent at the Cappello d'Oro.

The room was quite cramped and there was no space to move around. So was the en-suite shower room. There were no shelves to place toiletry bags so they had to sit on the floor. Bergamo is a lovely town and the trip up the funicular was fun.

Typical business type hotel. Ticks all the boxes but without character..but when you're tired and all you want is a quiet, clean, (very)comfortable room with efficient staff then this would be an excellent choice. Ideally placed for catching the bus to Oria al seria aeroporto (Bergamo airport). The restaurant round the block (La Bruschetta) was fantastic!

My husband and I travelled to Bergamo for a quiet away from it all break, we found everyone very friendly and all restaurants ,coffee shops bars etc great value for money and staff excellent. City Alta was a little more expensive but still great value. Our hotel was superbly situated and the accomodation itself beautiful, clean. However the staff were unfriendly, room sevice did not exist even though it was advertised in the rooms when I rang the man was rude to me and hung up. There was no possibility of getting a drink from the bar in reception or room service & it was only 11. @ NIGHT. On sat morning I booked a taxi to the airport for sunday morning & when I double checked in the evening no record of my request could be found. We would return to this hotel only for location reasons. We will deffinatly return to Bergamo a beautifull unspoilt city.

The Hotel was very good, the breakfasts and service first class. The rooms were very clean but the noise from the adjoining rooms showers were a little loud in the mornings. The old part of Bergamo was very enjoyable, bus stops outside of hotel. The best way to and from the airport is by bus 1 1/2 Euro compared to 20 Euro by taxi. The Railway station is also close by for journeys to Milan, Lecco and Lake Como.I will definitely come again.
