They describe this hotel as premier and that is what it is. Staff most helpful and very presentable with porter service to your room on arrival. Rooms are spacious a menu for types of pillows you prefer! LCD TV usual refinments you would expect from a 5* hotel The breakfast is silver service with full english breakfast or buffet your choice All waiters clad in smart tunics. Typical hotel of bygone ages- customer is king

Very welcoming staff. Compact room, but very satisfactory. Central location, and not far from the Citta Alta. The problem with the safety boxes was the only bugbear. There was a 300 Euro guarantee required for the Key. Pity, because otherwise this was a fine hotel and good value.

This hotel is a great deal for the price. Very comfortable, staff was great, breakfast was good. The location was conveniently close to the funicular up to the old medieval town of Bergamo (the main reason to visit here). We liked the fact that there was free wireless internet available (rare at European hotels).

I recommend stay in Bergamo and take a day trip to Milan - Bergamo is a hidden gem!

Hotel is in great location. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only down side was that the safe was located behind the reception area and there would have been a charge of 300 Euro if you lost your key. This caused unneccessary worry.

Three of us stayed in a really big triple room (the largest one I've ever stayed in). The room no. was 344/345 and contained two bathrooms which was great. The staff were very helpful and friendly, the room spotless and the breakfast good. I'II definitely stay here again. One drawback is you hear people waking around and taking in the room above and beside you which can be a bit of a nuisance. However, there was a couple of groups in the hotel so this was the reason for the noise. It only lasted a little while, and not something that would deter me from going back to the hotel.

Hotel was really nice, excellent location. If flying to Bergamo, get bus as it stops across from hotel. Plus on return back to airport, bus stop is just to the right of the hotel. (no need to get a taxi!!). Good restaurants - tip buy caraffe of wine as opposed to buying glasses of wine.

This is a very comfortable hotel with excellent bathrooms. The rooms are not large for the price. The buffet breakfast was excellent but the coffee, as so often in hotels, was tasteless. Why do they economize on the coffee?

As many budget airlines fly in late to Bergamo Airport (eg. Ryanair from UK), staying in Bergamo is a better option than travelling on to Milan late at night on the shuttle bus. This hotel is very conveniently located in the centre of Bergamo and only 15 minutes by bus from the airport terminal. Take bus no. 1 and get off at the next stop after the railway station on Viale Papa Giovanni which is directly opposite the hotel (fare 1.30 euro). Bus no.1 for the return to the airport stops directly outside the hotel and goes every 30 mins or it is a 300m walk back to the railway station for trains onwards to Milan Centrale or other destinations. The city bus tour also stops outside the hotel every 1 hour and is a good and quick way to explore the city. If you don't intend to spend much time in your hotel then the Best Western Cappello d'Oro would be a very good choice for a short stay in Bergamo. It is clean and functional. The rooms although a bit on the small side are perfectly adequate, the breakfast is very good and the reception staff are polite and speak English. Bergamo has an interesting old upper city and is a good place for a short break or an overnight stop before moving on to the Italian Lakes. We would stay here again and recommend this hotel.

2nd time staying at this hotel and yet again an enjoyable stay. Great location. Two things that slightly spoiled things were the breakfast choice and stroppy receptionist who had issues when ordering a taxi.

To start with the room wasn't ready til 15.30.The older man on Reception was most unhelpful with a tendency to being obstructive during our stay and that of others but for us Marco, presumeably his boss, saved the day. The only other members of staff to recommend were the delightful man in charge of the dining room in the evening and a reasonably cheerful girl at Reception on our last morning. Those serving at morning breakfast avoided one's request or forgot what was ordered and the breakfast itself was memorable as the fruit was over ripe and one of the juices was fermenting in it's jug! We'd just left a 3 star in central Milan which was excellent by comparison.

The hotel is in a very good location; just a short walk from the train station where the bus from the airport drops you off. It's easy to find, quiet and well organised. Breakfast was excellent - with a wide range of choices. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. This is our third trip to Bergamo in the past 18 months as we like Bergamo and its surroundings very much - getting a train to Como or Milan is so easy and thankfully everyone speaks good English (as our Italian is limited to ordering a beer or glass of wine!). When we go again, we would definitely consider this hotel.

We had a room facing the inside, with a balcony - although the view was not very special - SO THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH STREET NOISE OR CHURCH BELLS, just noisy guests from the neighbouring room outside on the balcony for a while. Overall very good and the standard price for a 3-4 star hotel in the city

We stayed to nights in Bergamo. The location of the hotell was exellent, just in the middle of the town, only two minutes from the shopping street. The rooms were very nice and clean, the staff was helpfull and the breakfast was good. I only want to complain about the beds, they were a little hard. It was also a little noise from the air-condition in the nights. We can recomand staying at the hotell.

The only problem we found with the hotel was that there was no lounge/bar area or residents lounge to sit and relax or wait for friends. So on returning to hotel in the evenings it wasn't possible to get a drink - there was no heart to the hotel.

I booked a weekend break to Milan on the 20th Oct 07 for a birthday treat for my girlfriend and decided to book at the Best Western Cappello d'Oro. I spent quite a while looking at various hotels in the area but decided to stay in Bergamo as the train was very efficient to Milan from Bergamo, only about £8 return and 45 mins travelling time.( dont forget to get your ticket stamped BEFORE you board the train otherwise you can get a fine? dont ask just stamp it!! ) The location of this hotel was excellent, right in the centre of Bergamo and only a short taxi ( about £12 )to the old city at the top of Bergamo. I thought the taxis's in Bergamo were fairly expensive although very efficient. We got a taxi from the airport to the hotel for £12 but for some reason the taxi's in Bergamo were more for less miles travelled, city life i suppose. All in all the Hotel was very good although i would have liked the room a little bigger, Church bell rung from 7.30am and on the hour chimes Sat and Sun but was quite nice to wake to, with a banging head.... Hotel staff were fantastic and gave me directions to a birthday card shop as like a typical bloke, i forgot it, paid for the weekend trip though so my nuts were saved!!! I swiftly ran on the morning to get a lovely Italian card which the lady in the shop translated for me, very kind..Back at the room we had a knock on the door, we quickly disposed of our cig's out the window( which we picked up later) only to find the head chef walk in with 2 glasses of Champers and a lovely piece of cake with happy birthday written in melted choc !!! What a surprize and very thoughtful of the hotel receptionist. We had some lovely food in Bergamo old city on the Fri and on the Sat went to Milan for the day and i took my girlfiend to a superb restaurant on the Sat called , i'll post it later as i cant remember.

The hotel is very well situated, only 5 minutes easy walk from the railway station and has easy access to the old town. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room we had was very nice for the price, which was over looking the street, but not noisy. We only stayed 1 night, but would happily stay there again. Breakfast was a little basic and could be improved, but adequate enough. Overall, this is a good hotel for your stay in Bergamo.

This is a luxury hotel and the price (170 euros) reflected this. We booked a double room but were given a luxury suite for the same price. The room was immaculate and beautifully decorated, with a large bathroom/jacuzzi. As you'd expect from an American chain, there were english language channels on the TWO TVs in the room and lots of American guests in the dining room. Staff were cool, but friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was very good with a wide choice of both hot and cold dishes. No need for a taxi to the airport because there is a bus stop to the airport right outside the hotel, which is right in the centre of the new town, and also buses into the old city across the street.

Whilst this is a Best Western Hotel, it does not suffer from the same tired malaise of its counterparts in the USA. The room was very clean and tidy, the breakfast excellent with great variety, and overall a very pleasant place to stay. The hotel is smack in the middle of Bergamo with easy access to local amenities (shops and restaurants) and both the excellent bus services and train station. In all a very enjoyable stay.

A friend had recommended Bergamo to us as a great short trip site. Ryanair offered cheap fares (no frills), and transport services were excellent, train, bus, taxi with public transport offering cheap fares. We took a bus trip to Lake Iseo -10.60 Euros return for 2 of us. The Citte Alte was an absolute delight and can recommend de Franco restaurant there. My only criticism of the hotel was the breakfast -stocks not topped up on regular basis and I was constantly waiting for fresh supplies.

The perfect short break. Breakfast choice and quality was excellent, as were the staff. We ate at an excellent restaurant nearby. All was quiet on our first stay. However, on the second visit the occupant of the room next door had a booming voice he spent most of the late evening and early morning on the telephone to anyone who cared to listen We didn,t but were forced to as the walls seemed to be non existent. l'albergo è centralissimo, a due passi dalla stazione, e vicino anche alla funicolare per la città alta; la location è perfetta non solo per questo, ma anche perchè si trova proprio nel viale principale della città, vicino a negozi e centri di interesse.L'hotel è davvero curato e pulito, la stanza non grandissima però tranquilla e confortevole, la doccia comoda e grande, i servizi in generale ottimi. Cortesia e disponibilità del personale, ottima prima colazione.

Ticks all the boxes but without character..but when you're tired and all you want is a quiet, clean, (very)comfortable room with efficient staff then this would be an excellent choice. My husband and I travelled to Bergamo for a quiet away from it all break, we found everyone very friendly and all restaurants ,coffee shops bars etc great value for money and staff excellent. City Alta was a little more expensive but still great value. Our hotel was superbly situated and the accomodation itself beautiful, clean. However the staff were unfriendly, room sevice did not exist even though it was advertised in the rooms when I rang the man was rude to me and hung up. There was no possibility of getting a drink from the bar in reception or room service & it was only 11. @ NIGHT.

On our second visit to Bergamo in 9 months my wife & I stayed at Capello d'Oro in between Xmas and New Year. The room rates were very good value at that time being almost one third the usual advertised rate. The hotel was clean & warm - it was snowing outside. The staff were welcoming and spoke good English, much better than our Italian, which they patiently allowed us to try out. Capello D'Oro is ideally situated for exploring Bergamo, with shops nearby. It is 10 mins walk (or 2 mins on the bus) to the furnicular up to the medieval walled upper town ,as well as 5 minutes walk to the nearby railway station. We jumped on one of the frequent & inexpensive trains to Milan and there are other places nearby quite accessible such as Lake Como, Brescia & Verona . The breakfasts were excellent, with plenty of choice at the time we chose to eat(9am).The only down side was that the hotel restaurant was closed in the evenings during our stay - a pity, as the menu looked very nice with reasonable prices. However there were sufficient alternative eating options close by. There did not appear to be much evidence of guests in the lounge area having a drink at any time - possibly as a result of the restaurant's temporaray closure. Our room was quiet,at the rear of the hotel - but the trade off was that the view was over a courtyard. However we did not think this really distracted from our stay.I did overhear one couple at reception trying to move rooms (successfully) as they had originally been located above the hotel bakery which apparently kicks into life quite early. The rooms at the front do overlook a reasonably busy road during the daytime which quietens down by night. We didn't use the leisure/ recreation facilities during our 3 night stay so can't really pass comment on them. We would certainly return to this hotel & Bergamo ,which is a great place for a short break /long weekend.

We had a really great time and thought the hotel was excellent and in a good location, handy for the bus and the funicular. In our opinion Bergamo is not really set-up for tourists as some of the restaurants did not speak any English and lots of places were closed - (we were there at the end of November), however it was fantastic going up and down between the cities and the snow was lovely, perfect Christmas card pictures.

Calling this a Premium Hotel is an exaggeration. Several of the staff could hardly speak english, the room was so small that we could barely get around the bed without tripping, after showering the whole room was filled with steam due to poor ventilation, the expensive food in the resturant was way below par. I make better looking/tasting food to my kids on a weekday. All in all, the overall tone of the employees made us feel unwelcome.

A really lovely hotel in the heart of Bergamo. The staff were very welcoming and accomodating; the rooms spacious and pleasant - ours looked over the main street so was great to 'people watch'. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice and regular re-fills of tea and coffee. All in all a really nice hotel which we would definately return to.

We stayed here for one night before driving to Lake Garda. The room was smallish but otherwise fine - more suited to business customers. As we arrived late, we decided to eat in the restaurant. Not much choice for vegetarians so we chose the pasta. The portions were tiny and they forgot the green salad so served it as a main course(!) Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. I probably wouldn't stay here again as the old town is so much nicer, but as an overnight stop it was fine.

Friendly personel, but we arrived at 12 and had only 2 hours free and wanted to go out immediately, but had to wait for 0,5 h since the mininbar had to be checked - this was too long. Then upon our direct request to the receiptionist we were promised a room with view to the mountain site but received one to a street. Breakfast was excellent, however. Location surrounding is very good - close to the lift and also many nice shops etc. Altogether we´ll stay there again for sure.
