Bed and Breakfast Rigoletto - Verona

Although this year we were transferred to B&B Divina due to structural repairs at B&B Rigoletto. Comments apply to both B&B Rigiletto (2008) and B&B Divina (2009). Incidentally, we came with our elderly mother who is now slightly disabled so that she could enjoy the opera at the arena (Aida).

This is just an apartment in a regular building. We have arrived about 4pm, but the door was locked, and nobody answered. We had to ask a woman next door to call the owner by phone - he left to walk with his dogs. Breakfast is good, you can have water/juice all day. Lift is ugly but working.

Nice, spacious rooms, with good, firm bed. Five minutes from Arena. Parking can be booked at extra cost. No bathroom facilities in rooms, but two clean bathrooms to be shared by guests. Breakfast offered moderate, no fresh fruit, supermarket-sliced toast bread, pre-sliced cheese, not the typical opulent Italian "colazione".

First the place we originally purchased viewing pics on the website was not where we stayed. A room in a building with a quaint, very rennaisance Italian facade was traded for a plain appartment in a 1950's steel constructed building... 4 of us stayed in what was essentially a large room in a guy's private appartment. He lives and works there and rents out a few rooms with shared bathrooms. Things were kept relatively clean and we had keys to the room - but all the closet space was taken up by his clothes, he seemed to often have friends over, including a few dogs one evening (which really didn't go over well with one in our group), and it all felt a bit awkward and instrusive. Understand that B&Bs in Europe tend to be a bit more "intimate" but this just felt strange to be paying guests in a wholly residential apartment building - plus it wasn't all that cheap to justly offset the circumstances.

Bed and Breakfast Rigoletto was in fine location, just two blocks from the Roman arena. Rooms were extraordinarly spacious and overlooked a nice courtyard garden (although we were told not to wander there). A bit better means of communication with owner/manager would have been nice--one morning the coffee maker wouldn't work and a phone call to Luigi did not get results within the hour. We did not use the living room; enjoyed sitting at a cafe near the arena instead. We also did not see evidence of heating/air, but neither was needed during our June visit.

B&B Rigoletto is very well situated, 5 minutes walk to Arena and city centre. Very spacious rooms. Rooms do not have own bathroom; there are 2 bathrooms available for 4 rooms. Bathrooms are large and very clean. Breakfast is quite simple. We would definitely stay here again.
