Hotel Reviews Residenza del Doge

Residenza del Doge is in great location between St Marks and the Rialto, about 8 mins walk from each. Our room looked out onto canal, so we felt we were in Venice. Place had lot of character, highly recommended. Staff were friendly, we phoned day before to check all Ok and they offered to meet us at Rialto. Was essential as place would be hard to find even with good map.

We paid for a large room which overlooked the canal which was lovely. Room and furnishings quite tired and worn and overall could do with a major spruce up. Bathroom was very smelly, but that may have been due to poor plumbing rather than attention to cleaning. Excellent lcoation. Compared to all the other B&B's we stayed in in Europe this one was very pricey, however Venice is expensive. Breakfast was good. Directions on how to find the place was very poor - "take the water bus to Rialto and walk for 5 minutes". That definitely needs improvement because you could spend hours trying to find the place which is not easy when you're loaded down with luggage and having to drag it up and down numerous bridges. A detailed map on how to get there should be provided.

Ciao! We had a lovely stay at the Residenza del Doge. It was in a great location and easy to get anywhere in Venice by foot. As anyone who has been to Venice knows, finding the Residenza del Doge the first time was fun (make sure you keep in mind this is part of your travel adventure – keep a smile on your face and talk to people). They gave good directions and after asking only a few people we found it! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to meet the owner, but her lovely daughter helped us during our visit. Since Venice is one of the most expensive places to visit in Italy, we were pleasantly surprised and felt we got our money’s worth at this location. Our room was large for European standards, we had a beautiful view of the canal and a bridge, breakfast was cooked for us and the room was clean, had heat/air, hot water and a hair dryer, what more could you want? It was perfect and I would highly recommend it. I’ll be spreading the word to all my friends! Buona Viaggi!

Our room wa fine although the ensuite was separate to the room via the hallway. Breakfast ws fine and the location of the hotel roughly between San Marco and the Rialto was very convenient. Finding the BnB requries some planning and is easier from the Rialto than San Marco.

We were a little disappointed in this place. It didn't live up to the reviews. Our room was too small and the only time we saw the owners were at breakfast, when we arrived and when we left. The location is very good.

The B & B is located a five minutes walk from the Rialto bridge - if you get the direction correct. We didn't, but when we finally arrived we were greeted by the hosts, welcomming us with an icecold glass of orange. we all loved the place, including our 9 year old daughter, and were taken back by surprise by the 'close to continental'breakfast. Despite the huge amount of tourists in Venice, we enjoyed some splendid days because we had the possibility to retire to this quiet oase right in the centre of the city. We highly recommend this B & B to everyone who would like to experience Venice without being ruined.

This was incredible accommodation that included an excellent breakfast. Great location - really central (mid-way between Rialto and San Marco), and Nokin was a great hostess - really sweet and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this and would stay here again

We stayed in room no 3 which had a window overlooking the canal. The bed was very comfortable and the room had everything one needed. The bathroom was spacious and there was plenty of hot water. Nicola and Nok were very welcoming and Nicola served a substantial breakfast in a very attractive breakfast room. The location was very quiet, in a delightful campiello, but close to the Rialto bridge. There are many restaurants in the area. We ate at the Osteria ae Sconte and had a very enjoyable meal. We thought that the Residenzia had great potential. The bathroom, although adequate, would benefit from a refit, to meet the expectations of discerning guests. We would definitely stay at the Residenzia del Doge again.

We stayed at the Residenza del Doge 5 years ago and as we were quite satisfied, we decided to go back there this year. Sure that we will come back later for many good reasons. We have already counselled several friends of ours to stay there and all were enthuthiastic. Many thanks to Nok and Nicolà for smile, help and friendly " accoglienza ".

On the whole it was ok, but not what we expected. The things that we didn't like were the noise - our room overlooked the canal and from 5 o'clock in the morning awful noise began. Also we didn't quite like the smell in the room - from old furniture or the old house itself. The breakfast was quite nice - pancakes, fresh juice, salami, cheese, coffee or tea. The hostess was friendly. So - fine for one night, but no longer.

We stayed at the B&B for one night. Our room was spacious, clean, and overlooked the canal. We enjoyed watching the gondolas and the boat activity from the two large windows. The B&B was conveniently located close to most major tourist spots. Probably the most difficult part for us was finding the place though we carried directions and two detailed maps. As well, the absence of staff during the afternoon and evening put us a loose ends for information and for making necessary arrangements.

The Bed and Breakfast was "run-down" - too run-down for what we paid. The room smelled a lot like mold, it was disgusting!!! It was so bad that I wish our stay had been shorter in the Bed and Breakfast. It also wasn't very clean.

The hospitality was awesome. I would recommend calling on your arrival to make sure someone is there to let you in or letting them know your time of arrival in advance.

A nice characteristic Venetian home - not a b&b in the British sense but more like a small pension. Rooms are big enough with cosy big chairs. The owners are more than friendly and helpful, even giving us boots to walk the streets when the waters were high. Breakfast was not abundant but quite okay. We missed tea and coffee making facilities during the afternoon or evening. Quietness in the rooms is perfect if it comes to street noise but the walls with the adjoining rooms are very thin, which is not always a recommendation for couples who come to spend their honeymoon here - or their neighbours. All in all a bargain in Venice and we would love to come back.

I have been to Venice previously & instead of again staying in an hotel, made a reservation instead at the Residenza del Doge B/B for the night of Sept 5. Arrangement was I had to phone the Residenza on my arrival by water taxi at Ponte di Rialto & someone from Residenza would meet me there to accompany me on foot to the B/B. Several phone calls were made, also by the watertaxi driver, but no one answered the phone. Because of that I had to find my own way; no easy task for a senior citizen with luggage. Went into shops & asked passersby, was sent back & forth up & down dozens of steps & over canals. Nobody was sure where the B/B was. After 1 1/2 hours I stumbled exhausted into a hotel. From there another phone call was made. The Residenza phone was then answered & a young lady came to fetch me from the hotel to take me to the B/B. The frustration of not being able to reach anyone at the Residenza by phone, was terrible, especially as they had promised to meet us. My friend from the UK was also supposed to be met on her arrival. Again, nobody answered the phone. She eventually bought a map and spent 4 HOURS trying to find the Residenza! No explanation or apology received from the staff at Residenza, for not anwering the phone or for not meeting either of us. Thus we cannot recommend the Residenza. First impressions count! The fact that they offer a good breakfast doesn't make up for the stress & exhaustion of not being met, as promised.

My sister and I stayed for two nights. The only difficulty was finding it (Venice is easy to get lost in generally). We simply phoned and the staff fetched us took us straight there. The room was clean, homely and comfortable, although small. It was also fairly noisy in the morning, but only because it looked directly onto a canal intersection, which I thought was great! Staff were friendly and more than helpful. Good location for the tourist areas of Venice - 5 minutes (if that)to Rialto, 5 to 10 to San Marco. It could do with some tourist info though, such as info on events, tours etc (although this seems to be lacking in most B&Bs). In all, a great stay - Thanks.

We have got a nice room with marvolous view to a chanal. The owner were nice. We could check in as soon as we arrived in Venice and leave our luggage after the checkout. The owner was unavailable when we arrived at the B and B. We could not reach her on the phone easily. We waited outside the B&B for her and when she did show up, she took us to another B&B (paradiso?) in the area around SM Formosa. This B&B was ok, but did not appreciate the switch as we chose this site based on reviews and photos.

This is a great little place. We had a canal view, king bed, and our own private, spacious bathroom with full bath. This said, it is not a luxerious place, but very simple and completely adequate. Nicola, the inn keeper was very sweet and helpful, and even though I've read from other visitors that they thought her English was poor, it wasn't great but definately enough to recommend dinner and take care of business. The breakfast was simple and good, consisting of capuccino, toast, yogurt, fruit, and eggs. Just right to get you started on your day. It was tricky to find, but so is everything in Venice and I appreciated we weren't around the San Marco area that is just crammed with people. Would definately stay again. Little tip, buy the laminated Street-Wise Venice map from your local Borders and B&N - was a lifesaver.

Excellent location and not difficult to find according to instructions. We were in the lower floor room - low ceilinged, a bit claustrophobic but with lots of character, and spacious bathroom. Decor a bit tacky - as in tacking the wallpaper, and needing a bit of maintenance. Breakfast OK, coffee etc. horrible. Service was very welcoming and helpful. Charming, basic accommodations a stone's throw from the Rialto Bridge. Our room had a window on a canal(our request) However, the canal was a very busy service thoroughfare so it could get a bit noisy. Yet, it does give you a truly Venetian experience. City-dwellers will adapt quickly. The staff, a young couple, were wonderful and helpful. He is a chef and speaks a little English. She stays on site and speaks very little. The room was, again,a Venetian experience. Small, clean, low wood beamed ceilings. The bed...just a little lumpy. Breakfast was good but basic plus eggs, as you like them.

Small as expected, charming room with low beamed ceiling and almost-finished wall treatments of sumptuous fabric. The bathroom was modern though the fixtures didn't all work. It was fine, just not stellar. The ad should not say free internet point, it's the owner's personal computer, clunky and difficult to use, in the breakfast room upstairs. They do have wireless service, according to the owner, but he didn't have a password available to get on to the network so I'd lugged my laptop for no reason. Breakfast was cooked eggs and a crepe, rather impersonally and hurriedly served, with the usual continental additions of juice, yogurt, tiny bowl of cornflakes, mediocre machine-cappuccino. Both mornings we felt rushed out of the breakfast, though we were not overstaying the advertised time. Even with these minor complaints, the overall experience and convenient location, plus reasonable rates, made this a positive stay.

Wow, I wasn't expecting much of my first stay at a Bed and Breakfast. Sometimes some reviews may be kind of off about the quality of the stay. But my stay in Venice, Residenza del Dodge was the BEST possible. When you finally get to the place (we didn`t print out the map that was sent by email), you`re (very well) received by an italian lady (that lives at Residenza Del Dodge). She is very welcoming, and even brought us coca-cola when we first got in. The rooms are very big and spacious (the location of the B&B is very good). But the overall plus was the morning breakfast. WOW! Great job on treating well the clients, by Paloma (I think this was her name, but I'm not sure): pancake, toasts, yogurt, scrambled eggs, fruits, cereals, and the best tsting juice I have EVER tasted. Very good and was well worth the money.

We made a mistake by hopping on to the vaporetto in the wrong direction so it took us longer than expected to get to the b&b. But using the map, it was easy enough to find (it's at the end of a courtyard). We had to stand outside for quite a while because the owner had not heard us ringing the bell. Otherwise, breakfast was fine, the rooms were nice and newly renovated, the only thing that annoyed us a little was that we had booked a double room, but it was just two beds pushed together with a very hard part in the middle. Good location and good value for the money. Our tip: get the 72-hour vaporetto card and just go up and down the chanel a couple of times- it's a great experience! All in all, I would recommend this bed & breakfast for its good value.

I had a single room at the B+B and shared a bathroom with a couple in a nearby room. Both the room and bathroom were kept spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. The window in the bedroom opened onto two canals which provided a lovely atmosphere listening to and watching the activity on the canals. The breakfast served is fantastic - fruit, cereal, bread, omelette and crepes, more food than you can eat. The hosts are very friendly and happy to give advice on activities, restaurants, etc. The location is convenient to the vaporetto stop at Ponte Rialto and you receive detailed directions via email before you travel to Venice. The property is a five minute walk from St Mark's Square.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Residenza del Doge. The couple who ran it were friendly and helpfully answered our questions, the breakfast they supplied was more than adequate, our room had character and a great canal view, and it didn't take long to walk to San Marco (and most other places!). The only problem we had was finding the owners during the day time if we had a question. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and would happily return.

We stayed a couple of nights at a clean, well-decorated, spacious appartment which was convenient to all the things we wanted to see in Venice. Could not have been better. Good facilities all-round. Breakfast was sparse, but easily supplemented by visiting one of the many little cafes around. Add about 15 euros pp for this. We parked on the mainland and trained/boated it into Venice. For a couple of days add about 50 euros to the cost of your stay. Highly recommended, particularly as the owner of the appartment supplied us with maps and milk.

Nicola was very welcoming with a glass of red orange juice and friendly smile. They were upgrading the air conditioning so a bit of construction was occuring but it will be to the benefit of future guests. The room was very beautiful with a wonderful view of the canals. I spent time just gazing out of the window one afternoon and got to experience the interaction with the locals as they went about their work days. The place was located well although a bit hard to find (as are most things in Venice). I would stay here again if I travelled to Venice.

Both the accommodations and the friendliness and helpfulness of the host were superb. Our room had a view of the canal; the decor and the beamed ceiling made us feel that we had stepped into Venezia of the 1500s. Our friendly host, Nicola, provided information and helpfulness far beyond the usual. He helped to make our stay the most memorable of our entire vacation. (He's a good cook, too!) Highly recommended!

Any shortcomings this B&B may have (and they are indeed minor ones) are more than made up for by the kindness of the hosts. Nok and Nicola are very welcoming people who immediately make you feel at welcome and cared for. The room was incredibly spacious and the breakfast was so much more than we received at other places. Nok was wonderful to talk with and get advice about what to see and how to get there and such, not to mention a fantastic cook. We were on the second floor and shared the bathroom - it was always spotless. One thing: Nok's estimation that the hotel is about five minutes from the Rialto is a little optimistic for those travelling with luggage. Expect more like ten. Without your bags you can certainly be there in five minutes, but we found it's much more fun to take your time, wander around and get lost, and explore all the little bridges and streets. Grazie, Nok and Nicola!

room is good. service is very good, especially the breakfast. the location is not easy to find. but it's always hard to find any inside Venice. the information provided by the owner of the hotel is very helpful, otherwise, we cannot find it.

Nichola is a great host. we've loved our staying at this appartment. The room is great, just above a canal with Gondolas and the position is excelent. (Just make sure you know how to reach the place. it's a little complicated)

We actually ended up staying at the 'sister' B&B, Residenza del Paradisio, which was a few blocks deeper into the neighborhood. Once we were convinced we had accurate directions and could make our way back, it was fine. This is off the beaten track but in a charming neighborhood courtyard. It was quiet, and we really didn't see any other guests or even staff except for breakfast. It would have been nice to talk to someone about restaurant or late night options, or to have someone help with any meal reservations, but we managed. The personnel was friendly when we encountered them, and they gave us great access to our luggage ours after we checked out. If I were to have stayed more than one night it would have been just as good. No pretentions here, just a charming, quiet, friendly place to spend the night away from the noisey centers.

Residenzia del Doge was a very pleasant surprice!!! We will come back to Venezia as soon as possible, and we will not stay other places than at the Residenzia del Doge! The whole place was charming and beautiful, and the young couple were so warm and welcoming. We loved it! Best regards from Olav, Beate and Sara from Norway

Both Nicola and the property FAR exceeded our expectations and hopes. He was gracious, accommodating, patient and kind. He went out of his way to welcome us, even at 10 pm, to his fair city by meeting us at the Rialto and showing us "home." The room was charming: spacious, comfortable, clean. It was adjacent to the large bathroom and wonderful shower (Venice was our first stop; I had no idea just HOW wonderful the shower was until seeing others on our list!) His breakfast was delicious and bountiful. On behalf of my study abroad daughter, I thank Nicola for taking such good care of us on our adventure!

This was a wonderfull room overlooking the canal. The room was a nice size and breakfast was a real full breakfast. This would be my first choice of accomodations when back in Venice. This is an older historic building so while not perfect it was full of charm and character.

My wife and I found the Residenza del Doge, Bed and Breakfast stay excellent. The location is central to the sites that We wanted to visit. We were able to easily find the address and were warmly welcomed with a glass of red orange drink. The room We were given was recently renovated and had its own bath room. We found the room comfortably warm, clean and quiet. We were impressed by the breakfast served on a table set up just in front of our room entrance. Nok, made a great omelet to supplement the bread, cheese, red orange drink, coffee and yogurt . We were able to pay with our Master Card, keep out luggage in the hotel past checkout time. Thanks again for a great experience

The room was charming being right on a canal but also a liitle noisy due to canal traffic. The owners were lovely people who were very helpful with directions which is much needed in Venice!

It is a bit difficult to find the Residenza by oneself, but I was eager to do so, and I succeeded by asking the postman. So I didn't need the help of Nicolà, the very friendly owner, which he had offered to me by telephone. I stayed for 7 days. The breakfast was superb, and I was introduced by Nicolà into the everyday - life of the Sestière Castello, and he gave also advice to me for my trip across the islands (Lido and Pellestrina) to Chioggia. So Niccolà and his girlfriend helped me to meet fully my expectations. The Residenza, at 10'by feet to San Marco, 10' to the Rialto Bridge, 10 - 15' to the Arsenale was ideal for me! See you again next year in November/December, when it begins to get calmer at Venice and you can feel yourself at home in Castello, at the Residenza's! Thanks for all your kindness!

Nicola was extraordinarily hospitable; we arrived wet and tired, he met us with towels, coffee and chocolates. He made a real breakfast with omelets. He emailed us clear directions to del Doge which we were able to follow (with a little help from strangers). I highly recommend del Doge for anyone who wants to experience Venice fully.

After reading about the "18th century venetain building" as advertised on the website I decided to book a room in Residenza del Doge. I was very surprised when I arrived because instead of a room in the Residenza I was actually taken to a place some 10 minutes away from it. The room was in a completely different building! No quaint furniture or other nice things from the website photos. The room was clean and simple, the hostess was very kind, and the location is good but that was not what I had booked!

I was SO impressed. I average 100 hotel nights per year and this charming and friendly couple went out of their way to make us comfortable and feel at home. You can tell they love what they do and really appreciate the business. I HIGHLY recommend this as your top pick for a place to stay in Venice!!! It's a must. Breakfast was great. The couple is so charming. They speak at least four languages.

i stayed at the residenza del doge in sep 2006 and definitely recommend it for anyone looking for reasonably priced accommodation in venice. it is difficult to locate, especially if you have never been to venice before. however, this is easily overcome by contacting them upon arrival and having someone meet you at the vaporetto stop. it's only about 5 mins from rialto bridge and maybe 8-10 from st. mark's. very central yet still quiet. and excellent breakfasts!!
