Everything is hard to find in Venice, but the directions provided led us right there. The rooms overlook a beautiful canal, and are right on the edge of the tourist district, which meant it was relatively quiet at night. The host was really helpful and took time to help us get orientated to Venice. He was up-to-date with what was happening in the city those days and was a great help to us. The room was clean and spacious, and we had absolutely no complaints. The view off the balcony looked like it was straight out of a picture. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to Venice for any purpose, business or pleasure.

Highly recommended! The price was reasonable, the room was large, clean and beautifully furnished. We had our own balcony overlooking a canal. There was a cd player and cds in the room. Big comfortable bed. Generous breakfast (buns, yoghurt, fruit, cappucino) by friendly and helpful hostess. Shared bathroom was fine - no inconvenience.

Alice is a very kind and attaching host. She will do her best to let you feel "at home" and will give you some tips to find your way through the city. If you ask her for advice to where to eat or where to go, you won't be desappointed. Thank you Alice for our stay at your flat. We enjoyed. Best regards.

This is a great place to stay in Venice if you want to live like a local for a few days. It feels more like staying with an old friend than in a hotel. The best part of staying here are the conversations with the host, Marco, in the mornings. He knows the perfect restaurants to try, the perfect antique shops to explore and all the secrets that Venice hides without a proper guide. Pick his brain when you go and you'll be able to fully take advantage of this city. The only downside is the relatively thin walls between rooms. We had quiet neighbors when we stayed so it wasn't a problem but not everyone will have the same luck. Also, if you're the kind of person that may feel awkward staying in a home- this may not be the place for you. It feels just like your staying with a friendly host family, but the house does still function as a home. I enjoy that feeling, so I would definitely stay here again.

It was as advertised, but just a little quiet and dark. The location was fine, and we found it convenient enough. Mainly, it was so dark in the hallway that we had to carry our own flashlight. It was 60 steps to walk up, but this wasn't a problem for us. I checked that we woudn't stay here again, but only because we'd try to get something a little more cheerful next time.

Marco and Alicia were absolutely lovely and welcomed us with great hospitality into their beautiful apartment in an old Venice apartment block. That we could sit and talk with them over breakfast whilst staying in a genuine Venetian apartment rather than hotel meaant we felt like we saw far more of Venice than most of the tourist hordes! The rooms were very large with views over a busy (but not too noisy) canal, and had lovely atmospheric furniture. It was a wonderful place to stay and enjoy Venice from, and we would recommend San Marco very highly.

Folks, do yourself a favour and stay at this B&B. The location is about a 15 minute walk from Piazza San Marco, but it feels far removed from the touristy chaos. The room we stayed in is magical, with a wonderful third-floor view and balcony overlooking the canal. It's tastefully furnished - just as it would have been back in the 30's, but with some modern additions like a CD player and free WiFi for your laptop or iPod Touch. There is also a separate 2- or 3-bedroom (can't remember) apartment if you're traveling as a family or larger group. Breakfast is a DIY affair: help yourself to toast and fruit, make your own coffee - just the way we like it. And the owner, Marco, is friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable about things to see in Venice and - more importantly - how to get there! We will definitely be staying at this B&B next time we're in Venice.

We highly recommend the B&B San Marco! The room was beautiful, clean and extremely comfortable. It is located in the heart of Venice on a canal, so we had easy access to all the city. Marco and his wife were very nice and accomodating. The room size was excellent. The old style of the room and its furnishings were charming! And the view was to die for.

My wife and I wished to have a view of a small canal, and for this all three of these rooms have just about a perfect view. We had the medium sized room, and this was large for our tour of Italy. The location is very good, you are close enough to San Marco, but far enought away to feel like going "home" after your vino and gelato is a little more authentic, a little less touristy. The only negative I have to report is the lack of friendliness of the lady of the house. I was dissapointed in this, since all the reviews stated that Marco, the owner was very kind. I think I saw him once on the way out the door, his wife must not always run everything. She shouldn't. Just a little curt and rude to my wife, but as Americans, you run into that from time to time while in europe. I would stay there again for the view, but would avoid the grumpy lady who wanders around in her pajamas.

Beautiful room with large windows over looking canal; quiet residential area but very close to san marco, etc.; comfortable bed, nice linens/towels, attractive furniture; hosts were very friendly and outgoing, suggested sites, made restaurant reservations, and were generally very helpful and welcoming; breakfast is self-serve and informal; only complaint was that shower curtain was a little moldy; overall it is a very good value, very pleasant stay!! would reccomend to all my friends and would stay there again!!

We stayed at San Marco 4 nights and didnt even meet Marco , his wife greeted us on arrival and she was pleasant. Payment was then made followed by no further contact. Towels werent changed during the 5 day period, and if you didnt like cake there was little else for breakfast,we had a nice view from the room . The location was excellent very close to everything without the expensive price tag.

Excellent location in a quite area located a short walk from the main square at San Marco. Make sure to get the map and details from them before hand, as it is a bit tricky to find at first when you arrive. While, they did say that we could pay with credit cards, they made it clear that they "would prefer cash". So be prepared to pay up front when you arrive. Otherwise, I would hightly recommend this location and would certainly stay there again.

The overall value for Venice was very good. One slight problem encountered- they had absolutely no record of our reservation. Fortunately, I had a printout of my reservation and they had an empty apartment which they upgraded us to for no extra charge. So although we booked a double room with no bath, we were given a spacious apartment with kitchen and bath.

A really beautiful flat in a 1920's building - marble floors, high ceilings, and balconies looking over the canals and bridges. It is an old family house and Marco is very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is serve yourself which is fine and informal. We were there over Carnival and it was freezing but were nice and warm in the room, but it's so big it'll be nice and cool in summer! Highly recommended.

We loved our stay! Our host, Vincenzo, was wonderful - friendly and helpful, very good English; he did everything he could to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The room was large, and we felt quite safe. It was great to stay in Piano di Sorrento rather than Sorrento...smaller, not crowded or touristy. A very local feel, but just minutes away from Sorrento by train. The price was really reasonable, and we felt it was a great decision to stay here!

It wasn't a double bed as it stated - Two Singles squashed together - very uncomfortable. The lady of the house also charged us an extra €5 per night because we thought that was the price - even after she had written the receipt. Not very honest since she checked the computer and told us we were right - when in fact her receipt was the right charge. €240 for 3 nights - we paid €255.

San Marcos was an excellent choice for staying in Venice. Not only was the accommodation a stones throw from St Mark's Square but it was situated on a quiet canal and had many interesting shops, restaurants and churches nearby. The rooms where not only spacious but lovingly decorated, with much attention to detail, and two even had their own terrace! Although the bathroom was shared, as there are only three bedrooms, this was not a problem. The only slight niggle I have is with the noise at night by other guests and the flat below, the walls did not contain the noise at all! Apart from that slight problem, it was the perfect choice!

Our 2 day visit in venice was very very nice. The location is excellent - in the center of San Marco district with all you need around. The room was spacious and clean as the whole appartment was. Our hosts helped us whenever we had any questions and made our stay marvellous. I would stay there again during my next visit as well as I can recommend it to everybody. BTW, the biggest room has a small balcony while the other two only have windows. ps: Only the doorbell was hard to guess as there is no sign for the hotel outside the house.
