Bed and Breakfast Corte Contarini - Venice

We had a lovely, albeit short, stay in Venice at Corte Contarini. The place was easy to find, and in a great location; within walking distance of the majority of Venice. Giovanni Scavella was an excellent host, and he keeps a very well run little B&B. The only minor downside was the noise. We left the window open on the first night due to the heat, but there was enough noise to wake us at 5am. For the next 3 nights, we had a fan in the room which was much better. Giovanni offers some excellent advice on where to go and what to see, and is happy to answer any questions you may have. His English is also very good. I would definately reccomend this B&B and would stay again in the future.

Corte Contarini is a very nice B&B. Giovanni is very friendly, gives a lot of advice about where to go in Venice, and always welcomes you with a big smile ;-) The breakfast is good and the rooms are spotless clean. This B&B is actually just an extra bedroom in the apartment of a wonderful, young Italian man named Giovanni. Giovanni was a great host. He gave us pamphlets with walking tours of the lesser-visited parts of Venice and made restaurant recommendations. He answered all of our obscure questions. (And he speaks English well.) The breakfast here was the best one we had offered to us in Italy--most places had only prepackaged items, and those were sparsely allocated. At Corte Contarini, Giovanni had breakfast all set out for us (at the time we indicated the day before) and we could eat whatever we wanted--yogurt, fruit, bread, toast, croissants, etc. The only drawback was how loud the room was at night; it was hot without the window open (it's a Venice law that they can't have a/c units in buildings that face a street, so it can't be helped), but with the windows open, the street was very busy with voices late into the night. But Giovanni has a fan he can offer you, which helps with heat AND with noise. Nights two and three were much better than the first night! This was our first visit to Venice, and it was lovely. And the "shared bath" is only shared with Giovanni, but I wouldn't have even known that if he hadn't told us. It was so clean, and he was never in it when we needed to use it. It felt like it was our own private bath, even though it was across the hallway.

The room was delightful and the welcome fantastic. Giovanni was very helpful and accomodating - meeting us at breakfast to chat and answer our questions and then we were left alone to do our own thing. You are aware that others are living in the house so need to be quiet at night. Breakfast was excellent, Croissant and toast and yoghurt and fruit juice etc. There was a little street noise one night but no more than you would expect in Venice. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accomodation.

Très très agréablement surpris par la gentillesse du propriétaire qui nous a accueilli chaleureusement avec un petit jus d'orange et nous a donné de bons conseils pour les balades. La propreté est irréprochable et on dispose de son propore jeu de clé à rendre en fin de séjour d'où une très grande liberté dans les allées et venues! Je conseille très vivement cet endroit et si l'occasion se présente de retourner sur Venise nous ne manquerons pas de réserver à nouveau ce B&B.

The breakfast was minimal. We got a croissant in a plastic bag. We prefer fresh food.
