Prices for hotels in Venice were daunting for us and this well located B&B was an excellent compromise. The panoramic view from the lounge/breakfast room out over St Mark's bay must be one of the best in Venice. Access to major sites is very easy from here on foot or by vaporetto. 3 bathrooms, (tho' not en-suite,) for 5 good sized bedrooms seemed perfectly adequate and linens are all immaculately kept and frequently changed. There was plenty in choice and quantity for breakfast tho' it was of the highly plastic packaged variety. The multilingual 'host,' Nicola Derai, was very helpful in every way, even coming out to meet us and carry baggage from the quay at Giardini when our vaporetto did not, unexpectedly, stop at Arsenale on our arrival day because of a political demonstration. For us the quiet, inner courtyard-facing bedroom was better than one facing the very busy and quite noisy waterfront. As a budget place to stay, we would recommend Al Tramonto Dorato very highly.

For a one-night stay in Venice in a triple room this was excellent. Being one floor up increased the quality of an already stunning view even further. The bathroom was shared but, with only about 8 guests, access was never a problem. Being next to the Arsenale stop was a big bonus as we only had to negotiate one bridge with luggage.

For the price ($125 USD/night), we stayed waterfront on the lagoon / Grand Canal in Venice! The host Nicolai (sp?) was VERY friendly and helpful. The room was sufficient - nothing fancy, but clean with a shared bathroom. The common area is very nice with a fantastic view. There is a little terrace overlooking Venice! The location was perfect for us: next to a vaporetto stop, near the park and some sites with a cafe and gelato stand right downstairs. 10 min wonderful walk to Piazza di San Marco.

This elegant B&B gives you an idea and an atmosphere of a real Venetian property with excellent interior decorations of the rooms, hallways, etc. The view from the common lounge is unforgettable, it overlooks the lagune and this is the first sight you rest your eyes upon when coming down for breakfast. The owner/host is very welcoming and helpful, the location is perfect - it's less than 10 min walk to San Marco along the beautiful embankment.

Nicola and his staff offered me a warm welcome. Upon request (one week prior to arrival) I was served a diet breakfast according to my needs. This was typical for the wonderful hospitality of my host. I can recommand Al Tramonto Dorato to anybody looking for a realy nice value-for-money B&B. Its location is also very convenient.

Location of B&B Al Tramonto Dorato is very central and close to all amenities, one stop away and 5mins away from Piazza San Marco. Owner very obliging and even offered trip back to train station at a very reasonable price.

We had a very warm welcome, which made it great for us to stay there. We also could leave our luggage there while waiting for the train in the evening and were very pleased about the knowledge of languages of the owner. The only thing we did not like too much was the extra bathroom, which was very nice but only to reach crossing the corridor. Nevertheless we would always like to stay there again because most important was the friendlyness of the employee

Nicola is a very good host: friendly, welcoming, always smiling, and incredibly kind. He speaks French, English, Spanish, German. Very good guide to tell you all the places to visit in Venice. Its guest rooms are welcoming and very clean, a view superble on the Grand Canal. a place to recommend

The host, Nicola, was extremely helpful in directing us to local transportation and answering questions about where to eat, etc.; he's a rare Venetian local (most folks live off the island these days). His English is excellent and he's very helpful, although quite busy. The rooms were very nice but the walls are rather thin, so we could hear our neighbor snoring a bit from next door. The bathrooms are shared and are not attached to the room--somehow I didn't realize that when I made the reservation. It was never a problem, but that's the only small quibble I have with this place; it felt a little dorm-like to walk down the hall to shower. But it was clean, had a hairdryer, very nice facilities. Comfortable place to stay for young professionals, etc. Breakfast was good! American drip-style coffee, cereal, rolls and croissants, yogurt and orange juice (fresh squeezed?); not homemade but filling. Good prices for Venice, and a beautiful common area with a gorgeous view of the water from there.

What a marvelous B&B!! Nicolo is welcoming, gracious and helpful. I would stay here again. The location is an easy 10 minute walk from San Marco, yet is far enough away to be quiet yet close to some nice restaurants and has a lovely view of the Grand Canal from the common room. Great place to stay!!!

We have spent a fabulous long weekend in Venice in Al Tramonto Dorato, and we really enjoyed it. Nicola is a very nice and welcoming host, we received great appreciation and kindness from his side. The B&B is well located, accessible via public transportation, lies a bit outside the city center (which is excellent I think). I would definitely recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Venice.

For a budget bed and breakfast in Venice this must be one of the best. Nicola is a very welcoming host and we were most comfortable in our large, very clean, double room. The views from the living/dining room across the San Marco basin to San Maggiore are outstanding and all the main tourist sights are within easy walking distance. There is a vaporetto stop outside the hotel so access to Burano and Murano also the main railway station is also easy. We would willingly return there.

We had a very good stay in this Bed and Breakfast, very nice staff, beautiful rooms, wonderful view on the coastline of the south lagoon and already a bit outside of the very crowded quais.(It is further than riva dei schiavone)

Amazing location right on the lagoon, with wonderful views from the balcony of the salon. The only problem I had was that you may have to phone the owner and wait more than a half hour for him to arrive before you can get into the place, which is awkward. He's very helpful once you make contact.

We came to Venice on our honeymoon and were not disappointed in our choice of hotel. Nicola is a wonderful host and makes you feel at home. From excellent directions to being present at the house when we arrived we could not fault his attentiveness. He gave us his best room at no extra cost as it was our honeymoon (it was not the quietest room because of the proximity of the lagoon but was wonderful to open the shutters to such a view). Nicola was most helpful with directions of where to go, what to see and day to day practicalities (including helping us with using the post office to send some gifts home). Venice is expensive and the rate seems high given that the bathrooms are shared but we never had to wait to use the facilities as there are 3 bathrooms and Nicola always seems to know which one is free during the morning 'rush. Bath mats are changed between guests so that you never feel like you are going into a just used room. The water pressure is not great and the temperature of the showers was variable and unpredictable at times! Breakfast is in a lovely light lounge and fresh tea and coffee is served by Nicola. The breakfast is not of a standard that we would expect in New Zealand or the UK but from comments on this site would seem to be typical of Italy - pre-packaged croissants and the like - but there was yoghurt and fresh fruit and no shortage of food. In summary the location is excellent, the rooms spacious and airy. There are a few minor glitches (eg the bathrooms) but this is more than made up for by the excellent host. We would recommend this accommodation as being so much better that an impersonal hotel. We would definitely return and recommend!

A luxury home in Venice June 2009- We arrived in the late afternoon and were pleasantly surprised by the convenient location of the apartment. Located just across the bridge from Vaparetto stop Arsenale, the location could not be better! Upon arrival we received a warm welcome from Nicola, the Proprietor of Al Tramonto Dorato - who truly is the most considerate, and friendliest of hosts. The hotel is classic boutique by standards, a wonderful townhouse with a beautiful terrace overlooking the laguna. (views of Lido) Breakfast is served every morning in the living/dining room, an elegant and spacious room with high ceilings and decorated with Murano glass lighting. Discreet and comfortable, we hope more people will discover this gem. Although Nicola, if you read this...We hope you will save a room for us during our next stay! PS. Nicola has a boat and can give guests a tour upon request.
