like a dormitory, this hotel was quiet, we had a bathroom outside our room, but seemed to have the entire place to our selves. Cute, quaint and charming place.

We (mother & teenage daughter) had a twin room with private bathroom that was spotless. Both windows overlooked gardens. Unfortunately it was noisy sometimes at night from a nearby pub/restaurant. That was the only thing thou. Breaky was great- meat cheese, cereal, toast croissants and pastries. You can buy local bus tickets from the office which is very useful- don't rely on the bus timetables though, they were always late, sometime 30 minutes. Unlike the trains in Italy always on time. We had a great day at Capri even on an overcast day the grotto was blue. Did some walks to get out of the main tourist area of Capri- well worth it, there are some beautiful gardens. Bus trip to Amalfi 1.5 hrs of very very windy road but spectacular scenery. Its a good 1/2 hr walk into Sorrento - we came back one night, a bit scary- quite dark and no real footpaths, lots of traffic, wouldn't recommend it. Restaurants in Sorrento not so good but the nearby "Moonlight" has friendly staff and lovely meals (we had a beautiful lemon risotto, panna cotta and choc. profiteroles- Ok we know they're not Italian but we couldn't resist). Free bruchetta if you haven't ordered any. Did another day trip to Pompei via the train- pretty similar to Ostia Antica in Rome- if you've done one don't do the other.

Pensamos repetir.

This is more of a guest house than an hotel really. Facilities are adequate, comfortable and clean, but fairly basic - just what you'd expect from a converted monastery. Lots of original architectural features are left from it's original purpose, including a lovely little central courtyard complete with mosaic tiled and roofed well. There's also a large orchard and vegetable garden, though we didn't go down to this. Our window had a glimpse of the Bay of Naples from the window, but not all rooms would. One of the Reception staff spoke very good English, but the others couldn't (or wouldn't), but every one tried to be helpful and pleasant. Breakfast (continental)was very fresh and offered a good variety, but it didn't start until 7.30am, so if you needed to catch a tour bus by 8.00am in Sorrento, you missed out. The location is a bit out of the way, with a good 25 minute walk into Sorrento itself, and 15 minute walk (with luggage) from the station at St Angello. Once we worked out the local bus system it wasn't such a drag (you can only buy tickets from tobacco shops, but cheap at €1.10 per 2hr ticket), but even then the buses don't pay much attention to their own timetables running 50 minutes late one day - 3 buses being due during that time! If you don't mind paying €20 each way for a taxi, then you can forget the vagaries of the bus system. There are several nice restaurants of varying price ranges within a few hundred metres, one (offering unexpectedly good food at very reasonable prices) with an enormous terrace right on the edge of the cliff with a fantastic views of the Bay. We enjoyed our stay, but it's a bit too far out of the way for convenience.

Our stay at the Porto Salvo was wonderful, location perfect and eve ryone lovely and so helpful. From first contact via email before we arrived, through to when we departed everyone was very helpful and friendly. Mariana is fantastic, even battled with our rental car company when the car was delivered two hours late and insisted we should not pay the delivery charge. On our last day in Italy I was short of a few coins to go to the beach, it was a long walk to the money machine so the receptionist offered to give us the money! Everypne smiled and did all they could for us - Thank you to you all, we will recomeend you to everyone and hope we are able to visit again. KM

I liked the location close to the water but just far enough away from the main downtown area. It has a public beach area fairly close by as well. The breakfast was fabulous in the morning with lots of fresh fruit, bread and pastries. They recommended an all day boat tour on and around Capris that was just amazing. The rooms were plain but I quite expected that. Well worth it.

We didn't know very much about this place when arriving, but after already having spent time in Paris, Florence, and Rome, we were very pleasantly surprised at the style and quality of this hotel/B&B. It's kind of a mix between a B&B (since you do get breakfast, and there are lots of common areas, and it just has a "community"-type feel to it) and a normal hotel (since you get a standard room, one of maybe a couple dozen). Very close to the ocean, they have parking if you're driving a car, they have computers in the common area for internet access, and some extras like a bar downstairs. Bathrooms are shared, but we never had to wait for one during our 4-day stay. The staff is also extremely helpful, and the girl at the front desk spoke perfect English. The price per night is cheap compared to other hotels in this area, and the attitude of the staff and the general feel of the hotel really made us feel like we got much more than our money's worth out of our stay here. Next time we're in the Sorrento / Amalfi Coast area, we'll definitely stay here again.

The person who greeted us was very stand offish, didn't really give us any information on arrival and suggested we had stayed for 7 nights instead of 5. However, there was a younger lady who worked there who was very helpful and told us about local activities and excursions and helped with any enquiries we had so this was good. The photos on the web site did imply that the rooms were much more airy and spacious than ours was. We had a 'shared bath' room so possibly this was why, but although this was clean it was a bit more cramped than we expected and permanently smelt of stale cigarette smoke and detergent. The bathrooms and breakfast facilities were good though and location was lovely. We were a bit daunted at the prospect of walking 20-30 minutes into Sorrento every day but it was a pleasant walk and in hindsight I was very happy not to be staying in the centre of Sorrento because it is so busy and touristy. Overall we were comfortable but I think that the information we had received through Venere.com had built up our hopes a little too much.

We stayed at Porto Salvo March 24-28,2008. The B+B is in a good central location, a short bus ride from downtown Sorrento, and a 5 minute walk to the train and the rest of the Amalfi peninsula. We found the room comfortable, and the bathroom huge compared to other places we have stayed (10x10). The English breakfast was fresh and delicious, with a selection of cold cuts, pastries, fresh fruits, fresh squeezed blood orange juice, etc. The rooms on the street side overlook a chicken coop, so if you are not an early riser, avoid these. Overall a good value and would definitly book another stay. Ps. the pizza place around the corner past the bus stop is excellent.

This was a great start to a three week vacation in December 2007. The only regret that we had was not having a room with a view of the water. With that exception, Porto Salvo was the best part of our trip. We had a double room with a FULL DOUBLE bed! The next five hotels in Italy and Greece had twin beds pushed together. I would recomend Porto Salvo to anyone wanting to stay in southern Italy. The breakfast was done very well and had a good selection to meet anyone's request. The only problem that we had was finding the property in the dark, but later we found that to be a problem with most European hotels.

Originally booked 2 nights but found the facility so agreeable that we stayed an additional three. Porto Salvo is well maintained , clean, and comfortably though Spartanly furnished as befits a former monastery. The staff is friendly and genuinely interested in the comfort and concerns of their guests. Each of our mornings began with a generous breakfast with other guests in the inn's dining room, followed by a short, brisk hike to the Circumvesuviana Station (commuter rail station) to begin that day's sightseeing. Thanks to an abundance of public transportation connections Porto Salvo and the town of Sant'Agnello is an excellent base for exploring the Bay of Naples/Amalfi Coast area. Evenings Porto Salvo was a quiet refuge in which to reconnect with family and friends via the internet and rest for the next day's adventures. All in all our stay at Porto Salvo was most pleasant. The inn was all it was advertised to be and a little more.

It is a very nice place to stay. A little far from the train station. And be careful to get off at Station S' Agnello not Sorrento. A bus will take you to town and marina (stop right outside the B&B.) Will definite come back to stay next time. Only one drawback! Bars in the neighbourhood can keep you up all night on weekend.

My sister, two of our adult daughter's, and I stayed in a quad room at Porta Salvo for three nights. The room was large, had two big comfortable beds, a large private bathroom, a beautiful view, an electric hot water kettle, cups, coffee, and a decent breakfast. There were a few major downsides to our room though. We noticed a very strong smell of scent/perfume when we first walked into the room. We opened the door and window to air it out and soon realized that the smell of perfume was used to cover-up the discusting smell of sewage coming from the plumbing in the bathroom. We were sickened by the smell every time we walked into the room. I told the desk clerk about it and we were given a few Euros off the price of the room along with an apology. We also noticed three steps in our room that separated the bedroom area from the bathroom/entryway. We had to go up and down the steps when using the bathroom and coming into/leaving the room. We discussed the danger and the need to be careful while using them, especially at night when getting out of bed to use the toilet. Sure enough, the first night, my daughter slipped, fell, and scraped her leg while going down the steps to the bathroom. Around 10:00 on Friday night the party started at the bar close by. It sounded like the band was in our room even with the windows closed. We had driven down from Rome and had our first encounter with getting lost while driving in Italy (And that includes driving in Milan, Florence, all through Tuscany, Rome, etc.). The instructions were terrible and it is almost impossible to find a place to turn around once you have passed your turn. Traffic is bumper to bumper (In OFF season!) so it made it even worst when we could not find the place. Beware: If you are driving in from Naples and the north, turn RIGHT on the street immediately BEFORE the town hall (which is also on the right). The town hall is easy to see but, the street signs are not!

Beautiful historic building in quiet location a few metres from the sea. Great sea views, several restaurants in easy walking distance. Walk into Sorrento centre about 30 mins, but buses and trains available instead. Private secure parking. Great breakfast. We had an en suite room which was very clean and spacious. Think rooms with no en suite may be quite small though. Really enjoyed our stay. Only negative things were the regular traffic jam along the main road to/from the Sorrento peninsular and traffic noise at night in the hotel if the window was left open, but this would only happen on one side of the building.

As a former monastery, the rooms were naturally small, and the mattress was firm, but thin. The hotel is a far walk from the train station, but we could see the Bay of Naples from our window. Some noise came from heavy doors closing and tiled hallways. Overall, an excellent value in a quiet community.

Porto Salvo is the best bargain we've come across in Italy. Our comfortable room with private bath was the least expensive we've seen anywhere, with the best breakfast (cereal, fruit, bread, pastries, meats, yogurt, juices, coffee) served buffet style in a sunny, communal dining area. And the service was excellent! Marie and her staff went out of their way to make guests feel comfortable, were very cheerful and helpful; for example, maps and schedules for all trains, buses, ferries posted in the lobby. San Agnello is a small town with small town friendliness, much different from touristy Sorrento, just up the way. The only inconvenience is the lack of stores or shops within two blocks of the B&B; however, the town center is a very short walk or bus ride away and the area around the Circumvesuviana is full of shops, restaurants, etc. There are very good, inexpensive family restaurants within a few blocks -- Moonlight and Taverna Rossa (hand-made pasta!!). And the very best thing about Porto Salvo is the view of the Gulf of Naples and Sorrento. Incredible! We'll be back!!

We stayed in Bed & Breakfast Porto Salvo in the month of November 2006. The price for our room with separate bathroom (the bathroom was only for us) included breakfast was not expensive. Our room and bathroom was clean. We had a pleasant stay there, the crew was very kind. Breakfast was good and there was enough choice. However the slices of bread were not always new. The distance between Porto Salvo and the station takes a walk of 20 minutes. We recommend to buy the Campania Artecard if you want to visit Naples and see Pompei and other sites. This card is for 3 days and you have free travel in Naples and in the area of Sorrento. Also this card gives two free entrances and many discounts. Information at www.campaniartecard.it

We are so glad we stayed here and not in Sorrento. The hotel is extremely quiet and in beautiful location and close to a bus stop for trips into Sorrento. We opted for the budget rooms and so had to share a bathroom down the hall. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but the bathrooms were frequently in need of attention. I would recommend getting a room with the bathroom en suite. Breakfast was awesome: Meats, pastries, cheeses, cereals, breads, etc. Free Internet. I would stay here again.

Accommodation was very basic, but maybe for the price it is in keeping with the area. Have to say the the place grew on us. Breakfast was poor. We had to let a fly out of the meat/cheese covered plate!! Should provide maybe a toaster for the bread. Except for the bread there was nothing plain, would be good to just have plain croissants. Breakfast staff were not that friendly. Staff on the desk were fantastic, especially the knowledgable older one who gave us lots of info and the young obliging one who was very courteous. Wine was cheap and very good to drink. Would not probably recommend it to anyone we know but would be happy to stay there again. The reason we were there was to meet up with some friends from Australia and we had a really good time.

We were a little dissapointed with this B&B. We booked a double bed room and instead got a VERY small room with two single beds pushed together and made separately. Several rooms share one bathroom. Keep in mind this has much more of a hotel or hostell feel than a true Bed & Breakfast as you are staying in a monastary and not a house. The location is very close to the water, but a far walk from the "action" or main streets. I would consider staying there again but it would not be my first choice. The free internet was great and was rare compared to most B&B's. The breakfast was above average.

Well, we came by car and found this nice bed&breakfast hotel places near the edge of the cliffs with a beautyful wiew over the sea and Sorrento nearby. Easy to park. Really, the only 'trouble' we had this week was that we did´nt get the rooms we had reserved the first night - but we were compensated for that with a lower fee and with an apartment with shower for the rest of the stay. Good food nearby at the restaurant Moonlight and easy to reach town with bus. 15 minutes walk to the train for Naples and Pompei. A tip if you want a free beach - take the bus to Marina Grande, a beatiful fishingvillage close to Sorrento. By sandwiches at the local store. It was football-worldchampionship and we spent some time with the host at the hotel watching Italy playing. We felt very much at home and appriciated the friendly conversations with the staff. Good breakfast.

Unfortunately, this facility had a computer problem before we arrived and they completely messed up our reservation.

The hotel is nice although a little spartan. Staff very friendly and helpful. The location is not nearly as close to the train station as 300 meters. It is more than 800 meters by the normal route. This was very misleading in the description on the web. San Agnello is NOT Sorrento, which is also a little confusing - Sorrento is close but requires a bus or train ride.

The DomusPortoSalvo is located 10-15 minutes walk from SanAgnello train station, along the Via Piede. Sorroundings are the church, another hotel, a couple of restaurants (possibly some noise from these, depending on the direction of wind). We had room #1 overlooking the mentioned restaurants and Naples Bay. In the garden below we had hens and rabbits, no noise from these either. Reception Staff were English-speaking and helpful. Spacious bathroom. Loose toilet seat, slow drainage in shower cabinet. Nice public rooms. Breakfast OK, with large coffee/tea-cups. One restaurant around the corner, good enough if you don't want the Sorrento nightlife (bus stop very close by, 5 min drive) You may also choose between some around the San Agnello station. We will have no doubts about staying there again.

Our stay at Porto Salvo couldn't have been better. Rosario greeted us at the airport (there is a charge for airport pick-up, which is to be expected) promptly, and took the scenic coast route to Port Agnello. After a long flight this service was greatly appreciated! Our room was spacious, clean, bright and quiet (even a bit of an ocean view!). Breakfast was great in their sunny dining room and the garden was a lovely place to relax before dinner. Rosario was also very helpful and informative on which buses, trains and ferries to we needed to take in order to see all the sites we wanted. He and his family were so warm and welcoming, they make Porto Salvo a very magical place to stay!

Porto Salvo was an amazing place to stay. We stayed 3 nights and had a reservation elsewhere for the 4th night. We tried to stay at Porto Salvo on the 4th night instead because it was such a good experience. They were full, which just goes to show what a great hotel it is. I will definitely go back! The area is beautiful, the rooms are great, and the staff is so helpful and informative. I loved it!

Very disappointed upon arrival to discover that Porto Salvo is 2-3 kilometers outside of Sorrento! It was very inconveniently located for us. Although the staff was kind and helpful–they came and picked us up in Sorrento–they were not able to help us out beyond that with other problems that came up. Please make it more clear that this property is well outside and away from Sorrento itself. Also, I had made reservations 4 months in advance, requesting an oceanview room several times over those 4 months, and we were not given one. In fact, our room seemed like one of the least desireable ones with a nice view of a garage area. Seems like 4 months notice should have been enough notice to get a room with a view. Also, we had booked a room with a bathroom, and our bathroom was in another room across the hall. I suppose these things aren't really significant in the grand scheme of things, but, when you travel 9,000 kilometers to a place for vacation, it's nice to get what you expect and unpleasant suprises are a drag. A hotel shouldn't bungle reservations...that's pretty basic. Otherwise, the breakfast service was good and the beds/furnishings comfortable.

we had a great time in this place. It is exactly 5 minutes from the beach and has te most beautiful view of the coast line of Sorrento. There is a bar nearby for breakfast and drinks etc. The rooms are clean, quiet and calming. We had a separate private bathroom which was good. The hotel has loads of places to sit inside and out, a bar, breakfast and v friendly staff. It is a 20 minute walk to Te town centre but its along the coast and you see alot. the distance ensures a quiet nights sleep.Good for a young couple or group of friends.Price was great for all you get.Highly recommend!!!

We enjoyed being a little way out of Sorrento, away from the tourists. There was a great bar nearby with a great view and buses into Sorrento. The station is an uphill walk, but trains are convenient. Enjoyable experience staying in a converted convent. Not luxury, but perfectly adequate.

Nine of us traveled filling 4 rooms. The staff was very helpful in helping us find our way around and coordinating the various schedules of nine travelers. All four rooms were great; some with views, some with shared bathrooms. All were comfortable and clean. There is no easy way to get to Porto Salvo! If coming in by train, get off at Sant' Agnello rather than Sorrento. Porto Salvo is worth the hunt.

My wife thought she'd gone to heaven to be greated at former convent by an 'angel' called Rosario dressed in white linen! This place has such special character, with cool, spotless rooms and a great view of the bay. Great location just outside the 'bustle' of Sorrento and perfect for sightseeing Pompeii and the Amalfi coast. The map on the website needs attention as it doesn't give the correct location for Porto Salvo, however, having found this oasis of charm, we'd definitely stay there again.

This is a brilliant place to stay - quiet, clean, spacious, beside the sea and good bus connections to Sorrento. But, it is not easy to find. On exiting the train station in Sant' Agnello, turn left and walk about 50yds till you get to the busy road Viale Dei Pini. Turn left and go along this road for about 1/2 mile, following signs for Hotel Corallo. Porto Salvo is just across the road from this hotel. If the double green doors of Porto Salvo are closed (or if you have landed at the back door by mistake) just ring the bell and someone will answer.

Spotlessly clean, hearty breakfast, impressive vaulted ceilings in common rooms. Gated parking lot for those driving. Leisurly walk to Sorrento. We had a bit of difficulty finding it from the local train station, but the distance was easily walkable. Marble hallways echoe, but adds to the atmosphere of an old monestary. This B&B is very good value.

Porto Salvo is a simply heavenly! The staff was wonderful from the first minute we arrived, and helped with every little detail. They even drove us to the train station when all the taxi companies were busy! The location is perfect - steps from the ocean, near two wonderful restaurants, and convenient to a beach and bus stop. S. Agnello is much quieter than Sorrento proper - but with a 15 minute walk or 5 minutes by bus you can reach the historic center of Sorrento. The breakfast buffet is excellent, and the public areas for relaxing are comfortable and spacious. I will return for SURE on my next visit!

Porto salvo was the best place we stayed at in Italy. The sourrounding are beautiful and the hotel is simply the best value in this part of italy. We had a room with pivate bathroom and right next to the church. The room was air conditioned and very quiet. Its about a 15 minute walk into sorrento and simply put i would definatly stay here again. 5 star!

the only problem we had with this place was the loaction in relation to central Sorrento. We found it a pain having to get the bus or train into central sorrento. As we were only in Sorrento a couple of days we would have preferred to be near to the shops, bars and restaurants. If you are looking for a quiet location then this place is excellent.

It must have been a mile walk to the train station, and they do not offer to drive you. We were told to walk! Very difficult to find; don't even try it at night. Rental car is not on site. Someone from a car rental agency in town drives you to the rental office in Sorrento. You return the car there and have to pay extra for a ride back to the hotel or train station (10 euro per person). Rental cars are very expensive. Next time I would take a bus tour of the Amalfi Coast instead. Breakfast food at the hotel was of the most basic variety. Rooms have no phone or clock. Would definitely stay in Sorrento proper next time.

it was an excellent place to stay in - very quiet, and a stone's throw away from a sea view of the main Sorrento centro. Only snag is that the map indicated on the web site is totally wrong. It is virtually on the main Viale dei Pini as you turn left from exiting the Sant'Agnello station. A walk of about 300-350 metres brings you there. Best aid is to look for the signs pointing to Corallo hotel. Porto Salvo is across a quiet street overlooking the sea from the Corallo.

This place was fantastic in almost every way. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. The price can't be beat and the location is perfect for exploring Naples, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Sorrento. The conversion from a convent makes the place really charming, with the attached church still holding services and ringing its bell every now and then. My only complaint is that there is a bar on the opposite corner that is apparently quite popular and they have live bands or DJs occassionally that are so loud any hotel in 5 blocks would hear the noise. That goes on until about midnight when everyone disperses and tranquility returns. The problem is that this part of town is otherwise so completely quiet that when there is an event it can be heard everywhere! That's not the fault of Porto Salvo, but it's something you might want to consider if it's really important to get to sleep before midnight every night of your stay.

We had a good time using it as a base for our visit to the area. The breakfast was the only problem - awful fruit cordials and we had to ask for things all the time. Not good, but you get what you pay for - the hotel is very cheap. The map on the web site is WRONG! Phone ahead!! Overall, very good value for money, as long as you don't want a good breakfast. Recommended.

We spent three days with our three teenage boys the weekend before Christmas in Porto Salvo. It was a wonderfully calm, minimal old convent building with characterful vaulting to all the spaces. Exceedingly clean with very tasteful, minimal and modern basket weave furniture which perfectly complemented the quiet contemplative atmosphere. Good location just outside Sorrento, perfect for sightseeing Pompeii and the Amalfi coast, both pretty much empty so rather more enjoyable at this time of year. The rooms were next to each other as we had specified and the children's bathroom was huge. I liked the fact that we were given the keys and allowed to come and go exactly as we pleased. Lovely warm rooms and just about a view of the sea from both rooms. Smart little neighbourhood. Good value and perfect for our needs, although not luxurious. Breakfast was in a lovely refectory space with simple bleached wooden furniture but the breakfast buffet itself was a bit disorganised, kept running out of items and not enough fresh items (ie no fresh juice). Overall I would recommend this without hesitation.

We loved every minute of our stay at Porto Salvo from the minute Rosario met us at Naples airport until we said our goodbyes. Staying at Porto Salvo was a wonderful experience because of the special atmosphere of this former convent. The rooms were spacious and very tastefully furnished, and the view was fabulous. The bathroom was huge, there was clean linen every day. The breakfast buffet was quite varied, plenty of choice there and we simply loved the cross-vaulted ceiling of the breakfast room. We were made to feel very welcome by the lovely people of Porto Salvo. There was an excellent restaurant nearby (Il Capanno) and a bar with a great view of Vesuvius. In the meantime we have promoted Porto Salvo among our friends, colleagues, and the people in my Italian class. We wish Porto Salvo all the success they deserve. My wife and I stayed there in October 2004 for 4 nights. We really could not fault it. It was excellent. Rosario, the reception assistant, was very accommodating and even drove us on his morning off to our next hotel in Sorrento and grudgingly accepted a small payment. Taxis are v. expensive in Sorrento. A 5 minute ride from the centre to the convent was 14 euros - do not use them - walk, as it is only 20 mins. Best restaurante in Sorrento by far is La Favorita - cannot recommend it enough. Will definitely go back to Porto Salvo. Enjoy!!!!
