Things in the common areas could have been a little less cluttered. It was a unique change from most b&b's to also have a choice to have dinner. Try to ask for a room away from the street. The vespas are very loud early in the mornings. Loved the pets on the property!

Staff was very nice and helpful. We ordered private double room with shared bathroom and they upgraded to private bathroom for free. No hot water in one of the days. A bit far from Sorronto center but 3 minutes at the bus and we didn't mind they 15 minutes walk. CASH ONLY!

We didn't know this when we got there, but this was a cooking school that also serves as a hotel. This made for some great breakfasts (careful, they charge 5 euro per person, which they don't tell you), and you can also sign up for a several course Italian dinner with the cooking students. This place had a great beach-y feel, wasn't too far from the water, and was a 15 minute walk away from the fun parts of Sorrento. The only complaints I would have were that the staff was a little scattered and it was pretty hot in the room with no fan or air-conditioning.

nice & different accomadation in cooking school. Food was varied & unusual @ times but an experience we're glad we had. 10/15 mins steady walk into Sorrento which was pleasant[ i wouldnt bother driving in & parking, bit manic ]Overall nice stay, with nice family in nice / rustic surroundings. Look for Cocumella Hotel opposite to find Camilla's front door.

We truly enjoyed this family run inn. This was our first stop in Italy and our luggage was lost on the way. The folks here were most helpful in our ability to retrieve our luggage. Our room was in the historic building, and they were in the process of making ongoing improvements. It was comfortable and the folks very friendly and helpful. Dinner was wonderful and the best value we in Sorrento area. We could walk into Sorrento, which we did, and take a bus back. We don't recommend driving to Sorrento, parking difficult. Although our first impression of the physical entrance to the facility was a bit disappointing, we would highly recommend it. Some of the improvements being made would change that impression.

Sorrento is expensive so Mami Camilla accommodation was perhaps not as good as accommodation in other locations for similar price. That said you are paying to be in Sorrento! Mami Camilla is friendly relaxed place, with young travelers staying in the dorm and couples and families staying in the ensuite bedrooms. Breakfast is basic but ok. They do a great 3 course meal for 15 euros in the evening. The accommodation is set in its own grounds, so room to sit outside and while away the evening or relax in the sun during the day. Dinner is served under the stars. A huge friendly dog makes it feel like you are really staying in a home. We took the recommended boat trip to Capri, which cost slightly more than taking the hydrofoil, but you get a coastal tour of the magnificent island and the chance to see the blue grotto (note the blue grotto should only be visited by good swimmers and even then with care!). Salvatore who captains the boat, which has room for sunbathing or sitting in the shade, is a great character and makes a great refreshing tomato appetiser. He stops a couple of times so you can cool off in the sea. Its about 15-20 minute walk to the centre of Sorrento, however it is only 5 minutes walk from Sant Agnello which has bars and restaurants. Good powerful shower and good air conditioning in the extremely spacious bedroom. Internet access in public area.

We arrived by car and we had touble finding the place. The first thing we noticed upon arrival was that there was no staff at reception. We were directed to the kitchen by other guests where we were greeted by the cook. We had booked 3 months in advance for a double bed room and a second twin room for our children. This twin room turned out to be located on the roof - up 3 flights of stairs and across the roof on a metal gangway. It was difficult to carry luggage up to the rooftop and it was located as far as possible from us. Because the surrounding streets are very busy with traffic, we attempted to use the local bus service which goes past the B&B. We wasted a lot of time in making connections. The B&B is well over 1.5 Km from the nearest train station and shops. There are no local shops / facilities within easy walking distance. These long periods of waiting at bus-stops made the whole 2 days visit to Sorrento very umpleasant and we missed out on a lot of the local attractions. The B&B is not well located for access to public transport. On arrival we were offered a "special-rate" meal (dinner) at 15 euros per person. Because we arrived late and we could not see any alternative places to eat, we accepted. This was the worst meal we had in the 4 months we travelled around Europe - the pasta was awful and "hamburger pattie" was cooked with the plastic lining still attached.

While I didn't find the staff and family to be overly friendly I did feel that the surroundings and uniqueness of the accommodations to more than satisfy. Breakfast was ample, even with meats, cheeses and yogurts. The cappuccino was incredible! My room was number 14 and it overlooked the main street, Via Cocumella and had a stunning view of the Gulf of Naples. At first I wasn't sure where the entrance to Mami Camilla was but then I was greeted at the 'blue metal' door by a staff member who told me to go up the gravel path (where there is a parking lot), take a right and you will be at the correct entrance. I loved the dogs Lola and Spike which reside on the premises. The smell of lemons and wisteria was everywhere and added to the charm. Overall, good location as it is only a 10-15min. walk into the town of Sorrento from Sant'Agnello di Sorrento where Mami Camilla is located. The train takes only a few minutes and is only ONE Euro if you don't want to walk. Take the local SITA bus from Sant'Agnello to Amalfi for only 2,40 Euros each way! Inexpensive and it is a great introduction to the long and winding coast. It takes 1.5hours to reach Amalfi. The stay would have been utterly perfect had some of the family been a bit more welcoming. The convivial atmosphere with other guests made up for this. Good for couples and singles. Grazie.

We found this an excellent place to stay. It was lovely to have the garden area to sit in and the breakfast and bar areas were very pleasant. We ate there on each of the 4 nights we were there as the food was so good (all fresh produce and most of it from the Mami Camilla garden) and such good value - plus we got to talk to interesting people from all around the world. The location is also great - away from the noise and bustle of Sorrento, but an easy walk into Sorrento and close to the San Agnello train station.

Let me start by saying that my wife and I stayed in 14 different hotels for our European vacation in the summer of 2006 (Aug – Sept) – so all our reviews will be comparing the hotels on the trip. European hotels are smaller and simpler than American hotels, so it doesn’t seem fair to compare them. For the most part, breakfast in a B&B is not worth it – especially if you have to pay a little more. We generally ate one morning at the included breakfast, and then skipped the other mornings – looking for a local place to enjoy breakfast. Also, all of our hotels had small bathrooms and very small showers – so be prepared with a good attitude and knowledge that you are there to see the sights – not soak in the tub! ****** The pictures do not do it justice – this is a very cute place. The staff was very nice – the food at dinner was great. It’s a very neat and unique place. It’s a good walk from Sorrento town, but if you rent a scooter or like the walk – I’d defiantly stay here over some fancy place closer to town.

Having read reviews about this place on this website and others, I knew it wasn't going to be your average b&b establishment. We decided it was worth checking out, and booked ourselves in for a week while we explored the Amalfi coast. I can honestly say it was one of the most enjoyable accomodation experiences we have had to date. The family are extremely welcoming, with top marks going to Sal for his local travel advice and excellent boat trip to and around Capri island. Also to the dogs Spike (very big) and Lola (very little) for their entertainment! Although we didnt take part in the cooking group during the day, we joined the others for the meals on four occasions and it was fantastic every time. The room we had was huge, and spotlessly clean, with a terrace outside overlooking the lemon grove and gardens which is an ideal place to enjoy a limoncello at the end of a good meal. There is a lovely spot for a swim at the end of the street, where you can either choose to pay to use the small beach, or just join the locals who soak up the sun and swim from the adjoining pier. St Agnello is about a 15 minute walk from Sorrento, which is no problem at all. We didnt bother to get the bus once. Also you can easily get to all the local sights such as Pompei from the train station here. We had an excellent time here, and despite the fact that we had a few days of unexpectedly terrible weather, the relaxed and friendly atmosphere at Mami Camilla's meant that we barely noticed. Thanks again to the family, we hope to come back again! PS Check out Franco Pizza in Sorrento, I wish they made it like that where I live...

We ate the meals prepared by the cooking school and they were delicious. We stayed in a room off the garden and it was pleasant to wake each morning and see the beauty. They had internet access, TV at an outdoor bar which was a nice area to hang out and meet interesting guests. They offered private tours to Capri and cheese tasting factory. The peple whom run the B&B are extremely nice. We definitely recomend this place to everyone.

We had a wonderful 5 day stay at Mami Camilla. The rooms are basic and clean and hospitality is first class. We looked forward to breakfast and dinner - the food is one of the highlights of the trip. I would definitely recommend this B&B and would like to visit again. Do get to speak to Sal as soon as you can - he will help you with all your trips and will even take you out himself. If you are travelling by Curreri bus from Naples Airport, a good piece of advice is to ask the driver to drop you off at the Hotel Cocumela (Mami Camilla is opposite with entry down a small lane to the left). We had to pay the driver two euros each for the diversion but it was better than a taxi or walk from the centre of town. We stayed during the semi-finals of the World Cup when Italy won! We had a truly memorable night. We met some interesting people from different parts of the world during our five days and I agree with all the positive comments written - a great place to stay!

There were 3 in our group, we shared one room. The weather this summer was extreamly hot and our room had an air conditioner that really cooled the room. We were thrilled. We loved the community dinning, the price and quality of the dinner was far better than anything we could get anywhere in Sorrento. We loved everything. Especially the excursions offered, cooking class, and wonderful staff. A must for anyone who enjoys the company of others after a long day of sightseeing.

A geat place to stay if you don't like faceless international hotels, there is no mistaking that you are in Italy and amongst Italian people. Very good value for money. Rooms are spotlessly clean and medium sized. Best to go for a room at the back, in the garden area: rooms in the main house near the street would be noisier. Staff are friendly and helpful. Excellent evening meals for 15 Euros prepared by the cookery school and served on communal tables in the garden, so you meet other travellers. Well situated for access to buses for the Amalfi Coast and the train station to get to Pompei, Vesuvius,Herculaneum and Naples for day trips.

Very friendly - a fun place to stay. Nice surroundings. Only parking was a bit of a problem as you could not park car in the Mami Camilla complex. Had to park across the road in a lot not connected to the B&B. Food was good, servers fun. A place to recommend.

I went to visit the Amalfi coast with my mom. Mami Camilla had been recommended by a friend and I had done some investigations on the internet. We were very warmly welcomed when we arrived and helped to settled in. They provided us with very helpful orientation information and what was avaliable. the environment was very welcoming and nothing felt like it was too much trouble (we were given lifts, had show tickets organised for us, the list goes on). It was a good 15-20 minute walk to the main square of Sorrento but a pleasant one along the coast most of the way. Dinners (all prepared that day in the family kitchen) were delicious and a great chance to meet other travellors as we all ate together at a big table. All in all a very enjoyable experience and highly recommended.

A superbly located base for exploring the Sorrento area. Rooms are compact and spartan, but clean and airy. For the first night we decided to try the house food and move on to other restaurants following nights. We never ate anywhere else. The food and ambiance at Mami Camilla's is superb. The dining room is buzzing with everyone's tales and advice for future trips. The newly opened bar provided a good start to the evening with 'happy hour' and then stayed open until the last person left. We met so many nice people from all over the world, all with the same outlook. As one person said "Mami Camilla's has all the benefits of a hostel, with the advantage of your own private room". The only drawback was that it advertised parking available. It is - but at 6 Euros per day! Aside from that, we would highly recommend this property and look forward to returning in future years.

We stayed at this place for 3 nights. We had a very spacious room with an ensuite bath. Everything was clean but the room did have a bit of an odour in one corner of it. The breakfast was very good by Italian standards. We also had supper there one night which was quite good. I would recommend this place.

we really liked the staff at Mami Camilla as well as the food and family atmosphere for the meals. Besides that, however, we did not have a very pleasureable stay at Mami Camilla. Our room ended up being in its own building - a shed really - with no insulation and nothing but a small little electric heater. Considering that we were staying in late December, this made it very uncomfortable at night. It would take a few hours before the heater would get the room even moderately comfortable. On top of that, apparently Mami Camilla's electrical system couldn't handle a full house in the wintertime and fuses kept blowing sending the power out multiple times in a night. Once the power would come back on, the heater would still remain off until you would manually turn it back on - which meant even colder nights if the power went off while we were sleeping. On top of that, during the day the staff would turn off the heater while servicing the room. This meant that we were always coming back to a cold room at night. Lastly, our towels were never changed during our 4 night stay. This coupled with the fact the heater was off all day meant that we always had wet towels. I think that Mami Camilla would be a great place to stay in warmer months, but beware if you are thinking of staying in the winter!

We were initially disappointed to find ourselves in the hotel round the corner rather than in Mami Camilla. The hotel was OK but not what we booked. Breakfast was provided at Mami Camilla so we had to walk there in not very good weather. One evening meal courtesy of the cookery school was good and good value. Make sure you get off the airport bus in Sant'Agnello not Sorrento. Sorrento is very touristy - we preferred Naples.

We had a really enjoyable stay here. The room was clean and spacious and had an ensuite shower/toilet which we were not expecting. We were easily able to reach downtown Sorrento and Pompeii. I think this would be a good base for exploring the area. The breakfast was good and on our second ( and last) night we ordered the dinner, being vegetarian was no problem. The dinner was amazing value and we had a really good night with the other guests having dinner. If you were travelling alone this would be a good way to meet people. There are 2 big dogs in the yard but they were very docile . We would definately stay there again if we were in the area.

A charm farmhouse type hotel. The room and garden are nice. The family is lovely. We booked two nights there; the first night, my sister and I were invited for a drink in the garden with the family and their friends. The second day, as new electric lines were to be installed in the room where we were staying, the hotel arranged a beachside four-star hotel for us and the son drove us over there. We will definitely choose it again if we ever return Sorrento.

The stay at Mami Camillas was very nice. The property was very big and beautiful. The location was outside of Sorrento and at first hard to find, take a taxi. The Breakfast was simple B&B but excellent Cappucino, dinners were OUTSTANDING! My only downside was the noise outside my room as they were upgrading the two rooms next to mine, very loud drilling. Request a room away from noise. I would return.

The family (who runs the B&B) were great and made us feel totally at home. Giuseppe (the son) speaks excellent english and was fun. The dinner at night (furnished by the members of their cooking school) is economical and delicious, and eating together was a great way to meet and socialize with other guests. The price quoted on the website was not accurate. We had to pay more because what we wanted was not available. More accurate directions to the hostel would be helpful. It is not in Sorrento, but in the neighboring town of Sant'Agnello (30-min. walk). But the service and meals were great.

A real Italian experience which we both thoroughly enjoyed. The family and Nicky were always friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was excellent in both quality and value for money and the evenings around the big table will be remembered for the friendliness of the many people we met there. And not to mention Spike and the other two dogs would be missing an essential ingredient of our stay. If you like living with a lovely Italian family, then this is for you.

This is a wonderful place to stay, we recommend it to everyone. It is a familly hotel, there are two villas for guests, one villa for the mami Camilla's familly and a garden. So that you have your privacy when you want it, but there's everytime some sympathic people in the garden if you want to talk. You start your morning with home prepared cake and capuccino (included in the price). The mami Camilla's familly helps you to organise your day. Mami Camilla proposes also italian cooking courses, visits to cheese farms or small wine producers. So that every evening there's an excellent fresh prepared italian diner consisting of antipasta, first dish, second dish, desert and italian wine for only 12 euros per person. The hotel is situated in a quiet place, but every morning at 6am the neighbour's 20 roosters start their concert. In any case, I guess it's impossible to find a 100% quiet place to stay in this region. Note that the center of Sorrento is about 20-30 min walk from the hotel. There're lots of excursions you may do starting from Sorrento (by boat, by bus or by train). If you've got a car there's a private parking just in front of the hotel for 5 euros per day. The car is very useful for those who want to visit this region even if driving there is really crazy. We loved this place, this familly and the week we spent there was really exciting. If we ever return to this region, we'll stay at Mami Camilla's place.

The family are welcoming and friendly. There is a brilliant atmosphere. It's a lovely place to stay. I really recommend it. Mami' Camilla should be a bit careful about making imnaccurate claims. The room was clean on arrival but there was no cleaning of the room during my stay as advertised. Also the centre of Sorrento is a good 20 - 30 minutes walk not just a few minutes walk as claimed on their website. The evening meals are great value, delicious, and the mix of people at the table always makes for an interesting and lively evening. If you like good company and the chance to meet different people this is the place for you.
