Pros: - Nice little apartment with kitchen, clean and silent. - Very friendly and helpful staff. - Good feeling of beeing on a farm, there are lots of cats around! Cons: - If you like a large breakfast you have to go to a supermarket (which is far away, you need a car!) to complement your "continental breakfast". - The pool was closed! - Quite difficult to find the place even with GPS. - A car is a must-have! Important: The staff is not always at the location, you have to call him and wait a while until he comes so you can check-in. For us it was a really nice place to stay and we can recommend it!!!

I would absolutely recommend staying at Il Pettirosso, a little had to find, specially if you arrive after check-in time, but over all, a great experience, my mom and I loved the sun light creeping into our room. We wanted to stay longer but the property was not available! The owner left some ham and other goodies in the fridge!!! Really great place! We need to go back!!!

Very quiet place, ideal for a relaxing weekend. Not too far from the city center if you have a car. Very good place to stay if you want to visit Siena, have a room at a reasonable price and stay away from the touristy area. The room was large enough and we enjoyed drinking a hot tea in the kitchen. A little cold when we arrived (we stayed here in December) but it warmed up in a couple of hours. We received a little bottle of self-produced olive oil...and we loved it!

The hotel is hard to find and if you miss your advised arrival time there's no one to open the door, which is a nuisance because the hotel is also far from everything. we had to drive to Sienna and find a pay phone to ring the guy. The hotel is too far to walk anywhere so, car is a must. We were told not to use the pool wich was dissapointing. Now the good part: rooms are nice big and clean, with kitchen and fridge. Very quiet also.

wonderful spot in the Tuscany countryside. Do take food for an elfresco meal in the evening to enjoy beside the pool - watching the sun go down. Saves returning to the city to find something to eat. we were 2 couples - unfortunately one the couples had very noisy guests upstairs above their apartment.

Very difficult to find indeed. We found it just by some lucky chance. You'd better have a good map. Otherwise nice property, nice surroundings, nice room. It was basically a whole small appartment with well-equipped kitchen area so you can cook dinners if you feel like it. Overall nice BUT: aweful breakfast. We did not really understand if room service was envisaged at all. The pool needs better cleaning. The web says: "The B&B will offer all guests booking with Venere a Il Pettirosso red wine bottle directly in the bedrooms" - this never happened but we did not ask anyway.

Written directions on web are inadequate. Beware that Sienna street signs are horribly marked and streets may change names often. Take a GPS or have a good map or you will struggle to find this place. It has a rather narrow entrance between 2 Cypress trees onto dirt road. Driving in, this property does not impress or look like a B and B you would want to stay at until you turn the corner around the city side of the house which has been nicely refinished. The adjacent properties are rather ill-kept to the back. Absentee owners do not live on the property. You are on your own after check-in time. Good luck finding someone after scheduled check in time. The in-room packaged breakfast is only some fruit, toast, drinks in fridge and french press for coffee. Rooms and beds were comfortable. No common area.

Very nice, large rooms. Very difficult to find and even harder to get a hold of the owner to open the building. He said he would be available from 3-7. I told him we would be there closer to 7, but when we got there earlier, we could not reach him since his cell was off. He was very apologetic and gave us a bottle of wine, but I would rather have been able to get into the room when I needed to. Farther from the city than stated. Breakfast was very poor and the toaster did not work. Also could not get the heat to work and there was no one to ask about it.

The stay at il pettiroso was fantastic. We reached there by taxi after a tiring day. But it was refreshing. The surroundings and the view from the hill was fantastic. There are no shops nearby. So, it would be good to have your dinner from outside and go to the property. We plan to return to the property to stay there for more days.

We really recommend this B&B as a 'get away' resort! Beautiful surroundings and rustic accommodation. The only minor complaint is that the swimming pool was not cleaned daily and as a result thousands of little insects and bugs built up on the surface of the water. (Fine if your not squeemish). When trying to ask the staff to clean it, the language barrier became a real difficulty. Having said that; we will be back (but I will be prepared with a net for pond dipping!).

Il Pettirosso was the perfect ending to our trip in Italy. For value for money it is outstanding. Very welcoming, lovely room with kitchen (our own little apartment), fantastic views and much needed swimming pool. We were left to our own devices with everything we needed and felt right at home. The breakfast was basic but seemed in line with most B&B's in Tuscany and as you have your own kitchen you could always supplement it. Do take a good road map so you know exactly where your going as we tended to find road signs very confusing and the map included on this sight unhelpful.

We were very impressed by Il Pettirosso as we had no idea we'd benefit from a well-fitted kitchen as well as such a spacious bedroom. We were welcomed in Italian which was unexpected and might prove a problem if you have no knowledge of the language. That was the only problem and everything else about the place was perfect (even the location, which had been commented on by previous visitors). We arrived at the train station and took a taxi there with no problem.

This B&B can be very difficult to find if you dont know the area GPS coordinates are N 34.19.46.5 E011.17.20.2 When we arrived the owner was not in and we had to call him on his mobile. When he arrived he made us feel welcome. Only speaks limited english. The B&B is great and out of the city on a small holding and allows you to do your own cooking.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the room was nice and clean, and the park / pool area has a WONDERFUL view, ideal to spend some time at sunset with a red wine and some cheese (both from Tuscany, of course). The only thing we didn't like was the way the owner treated us when we arrived, but I would surely return to this property if I went to Siena. You may waste some time until you find the property, because the numeration of the street does not make sense at all... But after asking a bit, you will find it.

A bit hard to find. Best to google map before heading out. Spacious quiet B&B close to Siena. A car is a must if you stay here. We rented a car and drove to Siena and other walled cities and countryside of beautiful Tuscany. This B&B was the perfect place to stay for what we were looking for.

Andrea & Patricia were the perfect host and hostes. Their beautiful place is nestled in the family's olive grove. Every service was available at our fingertips and always with a smile. We have never been to Sienna before but we will certainly use the Il Pettirosso when we come back.

Il Pettirosso has been beautifully remodeled and includes a nice kitchen, a very pleasant surprise. The location is great, just outside of Siena and off the Superstrada. The directions provided are detailed but still a bit confusing. We found it without too much trouble but another couple had much difficulty. Excellent English spoken upon check in, but usually no one on site after that. They provide breakfast items, for you to eat such as sweet rolls, bread, juice, coffee and all the necessary plates, pots, pans and utensils for further cooking.

Il Pettiroso sits high on a hilltop overlooking Siena. The views are spectacular, especially watching sunsets by the pool area which overlooks villas and vineyards. It is a great location because it's close to the entrance of the Autostrada, Superstrada, and SS222 (Chianti Road). The breakfast basket was very basic, but there was a full kitchen to prepare foods that we bought in Siena. Also, we received a complimentary bottle of wine from the Il Pettiroso vineyards! The only problem was the directions. We stopped several people on the roads and only one person was able to direct us to the hilltop Villa. Our host spoke wonderful English and was very helpful in giving us directions to San Gimignano, Greve, and Florence.

Beautiful location. For drivers only, Helpful staff. Large, comfortable, and clean rooms. We had booked for a quad, but were given 2 separate rooms with kitchenettes. It worked out fine. Very hard to find, even on a map. When I called, they came right out to where I was and I followed them back. Once there, it was not to hard to find our way back.

Could not find the place. Very rural with poor directions and little help in finding accomodations. Were told we could not sit outside and read as they were building a pool and were concerned about neighbors. Agreed to spend one night but were told we had to leave by 9:30am after finally finding our way there at 7:30pm. My Son and I made decision to leave

How to reach Il Pettirosso Bed and Breakfast

By car
Whether traveling from the North or South of Siena, take the Aquacalda exit from the Siena ring road (Tangenziale). At the roundabout, take the first exit along a tree lined road (via R.Da Capua) which leads in an upwards direction. At the end of this road, at the stop sign signaling the junction of via Dante road, turn right and proceed along via Dante to the junction of via Petriccio e Belriguardo road. There is a sign indicating Montalbuccio and Castello di Belcaro. Turn right and after a few meters cross an old bridge, (Note: cars must transit one at a time), and continue downhill, passing under a flyover. Proceed 150 meters/500 feet up the hill, and look for the sign for the Pettirosso, in the vicinity of two old cypress trees. After another 100 meters/325 feet the Pettirosso will be directly ahead.
