Locanda La Madrangola is an excellent place to stay in San Giminano. In fact, it was one of the best places I stayed on a two week tour of Italy! I scored a corner room with window with a view over the north side of town - beautiful! Plus the rooftop terrace has 360 degree views. You get a discount at their restaurant, which was also excellent and an excellent value. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Our first stay--really liked the room and the breakfast. The only negative is the lack of available parking--their small lot at 5E/day was full and we had to park in the public parking at 15E/day--very long walking distance from room. This issue should be mentioned.

It's better if you're a couple rather than single - people tend to wonder what's wrong with you at breakfast. Staff were no nonsense, but efficient. Don't expect to sit down for a heartwarming yarn about San Gimignano - you look after yourself. Then again, sitting atop the roof at dusk with a beer and gazing over miles of ancient roofs and farmland, is what this place is all about.

Locanda La Mandragola was great for couples. The accomodation was clean and very beautiful, position was great. The breakfast was adequate, by Italian standards it was great. Manger who booked us in was unfriendly and unhelpful - however Tourist Information was fabulous and could not have been more helpful!

Absolutely charming B&B plumb in the old city with beautifully appointed rooms. Perfectly kept garden and access to roof-top terrace with 360degree views of San Gimignano. Scrumptious breakfast.

Everything was perfect, room, breakfast, quiet garden, welcoming... everything but the access. The hotel is in a very narrow road, parallel to the main road (San Mateo) and is not easy to find. You have to stop your car at about 50 meter from the hotel in Via Mainardi. Once you have unloaded your luggage they provide a parking place behind a gas station for 5€ a day. From that parking it is only a 3 minute walk through a garden to the hotel.

We stayed 2 nights at this well placed hotel. The room was excellent, spacious and clean, with a good view. It is in an excellent location, just off a busy street so it is quiet but very close to the main attractions - a maximum of 5 minutes walk from the main square. There are also several restaurants in the vicinity. A real bonus is the garden and roof terrace, which provides excellent views over the town and the surrounding countryside. This is rare in San Gimignano. The breakfast was a standard European buffet and the staff were very helpful. Although the description does not mention it the hotel does have its own car park so it is worth driving as close as you can to the hotel and getting directions right away, rather than wasting time and money on the big town car park at the bottom of the hill.

San Gimignano was a charming town. We were told the hotel was a 5 minute walk from parking. It ended up taking a lot longer as you have to lug your suitcases through town. We met the owner at the restaurant (since we saw the restaurant first) coming in to town. If you get in to town the best spot to park is parking lot 2. You can park for free after 8pm by pulling your car out before 8pm and then back in at 8pm. It says there is a charge but in winter I think it’s free. That's the closest lot to the room and it was more of a 10 minute walk to the hotel on cobblestone streets. Parking is 2 euro an hour during the day. There is a cheaper lot down the hill when you first come into town (I think it’s lot 1) but with luggage you may not want to bother with the trek. We did park in what was stated as being a two hour parking zone that was close to the room and were shocked to have gotten a ticket of 36 euro (the day before we did not get a ticket) we still aren't sure why we got so unless you are fluent in Italian, don't park there. The room was very nice for the price. It had a beautiful garden. It rained while we were there and was too cold to enjoy but the bed and breakfast is an excellent value for the price. We had reserved 3 nights there but decided to cut our stay short as we found 2 days to be enough in the town and to visit neighboring Volterra and with the rain wanted to move on. The woman that served us breakfast could have been a little hospitable as when we were served breakfast every morning she seemed less than thrilled to see us. The gentleman that owns the place has a German Sheperd (gigantic and very nice). English wasn't great but he did try. Finally, the room we got opened up to a path. People would walk right past your window. The noise wasn't too bad but if you can I would request a room not on the path. Value. Great sized room. Clean. A great place to stay. Had it not rained so much we would have stayed the full three days.

Photographs understated the location -- it is part of an old side street, but it is lovely inside (rooms and public areas), it opens onto its own spacious garden, it is next to a large park with olive trees and the ruins of the fortress, and it has what appears to be the only roof terrace in San Gimignano with views of the town and of the countryside; You wake up in the middle of San Gimignano to enjoy and you can escape into the hotel when you have had more than you can stand. What more can you ask?

Locanda La Mandragola is a sanctury within the city walls of San Gimingnano. The service was genuine and understated and I challenge you to find a better continental breakfast in the whole of Tuscany! The tiny roof terrace is the perfect place to watch the sunset over the Tuscan countryside. The private parking was a godsend. The website was very accurate and our stay matched our expectations. Simply lovely.

Nice place, romantic rooms and delicious brekfast in Lacanda La Mandragola.. maybe it is better in the warmer season but even in autumn this place could be the right backstage of a romantic stay in San Gimignano.

The place was not bad. The best thing - dinner in the wonderful restaurant that belongs to the same owner for only 18eur per person.
