I have just returned from a month's stay at Max's B&B. Normally people don't stay that long, and they don't get to know the owner well. Max is a nice "ragazzo", polite, reserved, helpful, and easy to get along with. He leaves the guests much liberty as to their comings and goings, I never felt that I could not go back "home" when the weather got too hot or when I needed rest. Testaccio is a nice area, very few tourists you therefore can get an idea of what it is like to live in Rome. If you stay over a certain period, people in the various cafés or even in the park get to know you, their discreet "buon giorno"s and their smile brightens your day.

Customer category : We are a couple of 34 years old without a child. We like to travel using B&B for the contact with the owner. I also personnaly travel a lot for business reasons in high class hotels and we also practice camping. We know the full scale... We stayed 5 nights in Max B&B and we can say that the room was perfect either in term of presentation, quality of the bed, bathroom and cleaning ... The location is also very good because there are frequent busses near the B&B which are going to Roma center in 10min, until midnight. Max is also very friendly and always trying to give you the best advice. Thanks so much Max. Ciao

This hotel is a very good deal for those wanting to visit Rome and stay close enough to the center, in a "living" neighborhood, but without paying exorbitant prices for a hotel in the historic center. Da Max is a B&B in a flat in the Testaccio district - it's not a hotel. I repeat : it's not a hotel. In certain regions of Europe one can get used to see B&Bs offering more and more service, with a landlord full time present to cater to your silly needs - well this is not the case for Da Max. It goes back to the basic definition of B&B. You get a (good) room, a breakfast and that’s it. Don't get me wrong, Max is a very nice guy who will help you with information etc when he is around - but that is not guaranteed - the man has got a life (and a job) too. We did not find this attitude negative at all - on the contrary we kind of liked this privacy. We just thought we had to mention this, to warn those travelers wanting some extra pampering. The neighborhood is an absolute plus for us. We found Testaccio to be very authentic and very much alive. No fake "old days fifties feeling" Italian style, but a very living part of today's Rome. The streets are filled with Romans, not with tourists, if you sit down in a restaurant you eat with the locals. And still you are at about 15 mins walking to the nearest metro station. Only on arrival and departure you might want to consider taking a taxi for the last stretch, but on other days you should get around easily with public transport. One point can be improved : the breakfast. An Italian style breakfast is always a minimalist experience. Max knows his foreign guests are used to something more, and tries to cater to this. However … Furthermore the breakfast is served in a very tiny kitchen. I could also imagine a better breakfast room, but I won’t complain – I’ll guess it fits great with the “authentic experience” fe

This is not my first time in Rome so I wanted to stay in a new area and Testaccio is great!! It's walking distance to all the main sites, yet not a tourist area so you get to enjoy typical italian food and atmosphere. B&B was great, Max was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and service is very personal! Breakfast: Cakes, coffee and cereal but Max asked what we wanted as it could be arranged, including yoghurt and sandwiches if we prefered. Will definitely visit again!!!

This was the first place we stayed in our 6 week trip through Europe... and it was one of the nicest. Max was very personal and made every effort to make sure we were well taken care of. He met us at the door of the B&B, and walked us through our entire stay, and shared his thoughts on best places to see. The breakfast was traditional: sweets, pastries yoghurt, juice and coffee. Max had sandwiches on two of the mornings as well. The location is outside of the main tourist part, but it's perfect if you have a few days. The surrounding area of Testaccio is really cool to explore if you want to get to know the non-touristy Rome. We went for dinner here 3 of the 4 nights, simply because we liked it. The Pyramid and graveyards in the area are although well worth a visit. We caught a cab to the Vatican and were there in 8 mins... but mostly walked and bussed to all the other sites. You can't beat this place for the price! It was difficult to find with just the address, but if we would have taken the google map with us it would have been much easier.

We spent 6 days in the B&B. Max was very friendly and helpful. You can communicate with him in English or Italian. I liked especially the location: you can reach Piazza Venezia (a center of the most important monuments) by 4 or 5 bus stops and many bus lines are available. Underground is also near. Despite the central location the neighbourhood is very calm, there are no tourists, but there are many restaurants and a market. Service was flexible, for example: we could check-in late in the evening, and it was possible to leave our luggage in the appartment between check-out and the airport transfer, that gave us more time for sightseeing on our last day. I recommend this place and hopefully I will return someday.

We stayed there for 9 days in May 2009. Excellent value for money in walking distance of centre of Rome. Rooms extremely clean. Max very accommodating and helpful but lives elsewhere so not always available. Max very keen to please and to provide a breakfast that meets your requirements. Great location in non-tourist area (Testaccio) near Tiber (Tevre). 15-20 mins walk to centre of Rome, close to markets, Avantino, Circus Maximus and FAO and <10 min walk to metro (Pyramide) and train (Ostiense) to Fumicino airport. We would definitely stay there again

Our room was beautiful and very clean, with a small balcony overlooking some ruins. Very comfortable bed. Another room overlooks the inner courtyard, which is likely quieter. Our room was reasonably quiet as it isn't on a main street. Massimiliano was very welcoming, and informative. The breakfast was generous, with great coffee, juice, and excellent pastries. Toast, cereal, and other sweets were also available. Breakfast was served at the times we requested. There was no mini-bar that we were aware of in the room. Having a large bottle of water in the room evey day was very welcoming after a busy day. The location is excellent, close to a diversity of non-tourist restaurants, a grocery shop, market, internet points, transportation, laundry (walking distance, in Trastevere), tabacchi for bus tickets, etc. Within walking distance or easy transportation of many sights.

"A Testaccio da Max" is a great place to stay in Rome. Location is good, the room clean, the atmosphere typically Roman, and Max (the guy who runs the B & B) very friendly and welcoming. There's a lot more charm to this place than to many tourist hotels! We will definitely stay here again if/when we come back to Rome.

A Testaccio da Max appeared to have 3 guestrooms instead of 2. All rooms have a private bathroom. Two of them are in the room. Only one room (ours) has a private bathroom in the hall opposite of the bedroom. The fact that the bathroom was outside the room didn't present any problem at all. Arriving at Termini station we took bus 170 . It is 11 stops to the B&B which is situated only 2 minutes by foot from the busstop. Back to town its only 4 stops to the piazza Venezia. Although it is possible to take the underground (line B, Pyramide stop)we wouldn't recommend this to travellers carrying a lot of luggage because it takes more than 10 minutes by foot to reach the B&B. Massimiliano(Max), the owner, is a great host who does the utmost to make your stay as pleasant as possible. In our case this meant for him having to get up at 5 AM to drive us to Termini station on the day of our departure. Max doesn't live at the property but comes over every morning for breakfast and cleaning. Guests have their own key to the appartment. The fact that the owner didn't live at the B&B gave us a feeling of enormous privacy and arriving in the evening after having spend a day in the city of Rome it felt like entering our own home. Breakfast is the traditional Italian breakfast. Coffee or tea and and some sweet pastry. Don't expect a continental or a full English one. There are cereals though. Testaccio is a very pleasant, clean, quiet and safe neighbourhood. We asked Max if he knew a good restaurant nearby and he referred us to "il Buccatino" which is only five minutes from the B&B. It serves traditional Roman food and we consider it one of the best there is in Rome. We most certainly recommend A Testaccio da Max to future travellers to Rome.

Despite a misunderstanding when booking by internet, Massimo was very helpful and welcoming. The room was beautiful, air-conditioned and very clean. The Italian coffee excellent; maybe just a little reserve on the cakes accompanying it. A very good place to stay, near from the Trastevere and its nightlife, and not far from the center by bus. Very good price/quality relation.

The most reasonably priced bed and breakfast left when i came to book. Even the taxi driver at Pyramid station did not know where Via Orazio Antinori was- it is just off VIa Americo Vespucci. Breakfast was a very strong coffee and a pastry served by the host. The dining area was quite small and the host remained with us throughout. I imagine it would be quite a squeeze for more than one set of guests to dine together. The shared bathroom was serviceable and clean. Altogether an entertaining stay as the host was quite funny, i would not reccommend this for families with small children or people who have difficulty with stairs.

I thought the B&B was awesome. It was very quiet, which in Rome is unusual. It is just around the corner from a bus that takes you to Piazza Venezia in 5 minutes. The breakfast is your basic coffee and croissant. Mossimo, the owner, was very nice and helpful. The room was also the typical size for Italy. It was a great place to stay. Lots of restaurants nearby and the Testaccio open market is only about 5 minutes walking. I'd definately stay there again.
