Martina House is a quaint B&B in a perfect location, convenient for exploring the city.Close to restaurants ,transport and park. The breakfast was a little disappointing in quality and quantity.A five night stay in Rome was too short to explore everthing ,so we'll be back!

Lovely stay overall. Good location, amazing building and interiors, attention to detail, clean rooms, no noise, friendly staff. The only negative comment I have is that on the last day of our stay, our flight was at 8pm. We checked out of our room at 10:30am but for some reason they did not want us to leave our luggage (2 small cabin luggage) there for a few more hours until we left for the airport. We ended up having to carry with us around Rome, finally left them at Termini station for 3 hours and paid 4 Euro each. As a result we basically wasted our last day there for nothing.

My husband and I spent 2 nts. 9/12-14/09 @ the Martina House and loved it. We called on arrival & waited the 20 mins. as promised for someone to let us in & set us up w/keys & info, since this is a locked apt. bld. We met Martina @ breakfast the next morning. She is a real sweetheart & serves a very nice breakfast. She was a gracious host & very helpful with local info. We had never stayed in a set-up like this before, it's a bit weird. It's a large apt. with separate and privately locked rooms. I am glad we stayed here and would stay again. I would highly recommend it & the location is just perfect, especially if you have a Hertz car rental cause you can walk to get the car as we did.

An oasis in Rome. Near to the Borghese museum and it's lovely park. Walking distance to major shopping as well. Just an ideal place. We would definitely stay again. It made us feel like we were Roman living in (a very nice area in) Rome! Not just tourists! Loved it! Thank you!

The Martina House exceeded all our expectations. We were a party of 7 and had the whole place to ourselves. The rooms were clean, roomy and comfortable. This is a great base from which to explore Rome. The Spanish Steps are a short walk away, the metro is very close and the Borghese Gardens are just outside. The breakfasts were very nice and Martina and her mother took very good care of us. I would recommend the Martina House vey highly to anyone visiting Rome.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and it continues to offer a very high standard, the rooms are spacious with good air con and given the excellent location are quiet as well. I would heartily recommend this hotel to anybody who wants an alternative to the impersonal global operators that have taken over everywhere else.

I got a phone call in the middle of the night here in Australia - our son was driving down through Italy and heading for Rome - his girlfriend was joining hinm for a few days and good ole Mum was asked to find him a hotel. Fast. I went on line and found Martina House - good price, great location - and the photos and description gave it the ambience of a classic Roman pensione ...( just our style when we are in Rome ... 5 star ritzy places are for other towns). I took the risk and just booked it. The venere site also provided a better rate. Our son and his girlfriend were not disappointed ... it was everything I had promised ... good value, in a lovely area and a charming simple abode with all the necessary conveniences to enjoy a few days in Rome .... and after all, it was not pretending to be some flash big hotel ... The location was also great for someone driving into Rome - good parking nearby and easy to zip in to the top of Via Veneto through the Porto Nuevo. I have guess-timated the ratings from our son's feedback, but he would have told me if something was dreadful I can assure you ! I have bookmarked the Martina House for when we next go to Rome ourselves ... Heather Ceravolo, Adelaide, South Australia

Martina House is very well located in Rome. Elena, Carlo and Martina are wonderful people and were very nice in getting us settled and helping us with any questions we had. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique and fun experience. We were returning for our second visit with them.

Owner has cell phone but is not on property. Difficult to communicate without phone unless you have Italian cell. Breakfast consist of bread and little cheese. Coffee was very good. Orange juice watered down. Four keys to enter two lower doors and the apartment. Old locks difficult. Rome very expensive, but will go elsewhere next time.

A little disappointed with the breakfast. More choices should have been offered. There was only bread, not muffins or rolls, sponge cake, coffee and juice. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Martina House. Should add on the directions on the web what floor they are on. It is hard to hear from the intercom and we were standing in the hall for a few minutes looking lost.

This is a nicely-maintained bed & breakfast in an elegant building, in an upscale area. There's a victorian elevator in the building. The B&B is in a small apartment. The entrance hallway is absolutely lovely; decorative, gold-trimmed double doors lead into each room. The furniture in the rooms is modern and a bit plain, but tastefully arranged. There is an interesting story behind the decorative doors & about the building as well. The breakfast is somewhat modest. Italian croissants would have been great!

This B&B is in a great location and an excellent price for the neighborhood. It's a quaint, four-room apartment, and very quiet. It’s not a full service hotel – so don’t expect maps, concierge, etc. Definitely bring those with you. Each room has a private bath and is cleaned daily. The "hostess" is charming, pleasant, and offers good advice over morning breakfast. I highly recommend it; especially if you are looking for privacy, quiet and a good place to run in the morning (Borghese Park right across the street is an awesome running/walking spot and has internet hot spots). Some useful tips – note that the building contains multiple apartments/offices, so there’s no “Martina” sign on the street. Also, the apartment is on the 5th floor of Stairwell “B”, and don’t forget to give an ETA, as the “hostess” is not on property full-time. You do get your own set of keys so getting in/out on your own is easy. I can’t wait to go back.

I can not really rate the "Martina House" we booked a room there, however, there was some work being done and the Martina could not accommodate us. Fortunately Carlo made good on the Martina House offer with a beautiful spacious apartment overlooking the Piazza Popolo. We were so lucking considering there were 2 children with us. Our hosts were spectacular, giving us there cell number if we were to get lost, or had any questions. Great hosts, great time. Would highly recommend working with Carlo and his wife.

I enjoyed my first stay in Martina House. The location was fabulous, right on the corner of Via Veneto and easy to find. When I arrived, the owner came down and helped me with my bags and the antique lift. My room was comfortable, air conditioned and quiet. The hotel, although tiny, is beautifully presented with magnificent antique doors and a lovely atmosphere. I only stayed a short time and wished I could stay longer. I will definitely stay at Martina House next time I am in Rome.

The bottom line on Martina House is location, location, location. It is located on the Via Veneto, situated right next to the Villa Borghese (which is stunning) and it is in one of the safest parts in town. Basically, though it is a four room apartment, NOT a hotel, built forever ago. This means no central heating and air, no insulation between walls, and doors from the 18th century that still use a skeleton key. It is as soundproof as you can get an old building to be - not by much. The room we were in was huge by Europe's standards, including a couch, an armiore, a murphy bed and tacky decor (prints of clowns taped on the wall and a screen printed chinese-style rug on the wooden floor). Our bathroom was outside our room and down the hallway and was huge as well, including a corner shower, toilet, sink, heated towel warmer, and some toiletries. The owner is nice. She got us in the room 2 hours before our expected time without a probelm or wait and was offering suggestions for dinner. We didn't get to sample her cooking however as our flight left too early. She reported to us that she normally serves breakfast around 8:30. Here is a major drawback to those who are looking for a cheap, decent place to stay: if you are a wider person in a wheelchair, you can forget about accessibility. The elevator barely held my husband and I with our 2 pieces total of carry on luggage. Walking up spiral stairs to the 5th floor is your only other option. If you are a very light sleeper, the walls are quite thin. Also the wooden floor squeaks when someone walks on it. Bring a noisemaker or ear plugs. The air conditioning is just a wall unit - the humidity at night pretty much eliminates the effectiveness of the air conditioning.

Located in a very expensive neighbourhood just off the Via Veneto. There only 4 rooms and unfortunately we got the one with the bathroom across the hall. We were only there 1 night so it wasn't an inconvenience. Breakfast was great. Hostess cooked us a nice soft boiled egg which was certainly different than we had had at other hotels.

Prompt and kind greeting late at night after long 36 hour travel. Owner very vested in making our stay a good one. Our room was large enough for a couch, small desk, and an armoire. Our room had private bath just outside our door. It was no problem whatsoever. There are only 4 rooms and we never saw or heard others except during breakfast. Good place to stay while busy in Rome. I would stay there again.

The location is perfect, right off the via veneto, near everything. The rooms, however are on the 5th floor of a building which makes it difficult. The front rooms had a great deal of noise. It was difficult to sleep. Our stay was not terrible, but my wife and I would stay at a small hotel instead.

Small room with miniscule bathroom and extremely small shower (we are slender people and you can hardly rotate in the shower!). Uncomfortable cots (2) and one comfortable (combined single beds) larger bed crammed into a room with no furniture or space to put luggage or lay out clothing or personal effects. Breakfast served at a small table (4x2 feet) in a seperate room and consisted of percolated coffee and one piece of pastry. Since there were 3 or 4 rooms with guests you had to wait to sit down to eat. Owner not at all helpful for any information or assistance of any kind. No maps, brochures etc. They took the only phone with them when they left ( ie couldn't call a cab or anything ). Requested additional blankets as we were cold. We were told extra blankets only available winter months. Rooms are housed in an apartment located in a building occupied mostly by business's. This location formally a bank ( front door about 1 foot thick!). Very few good locations to eat nearby. Did not need public transport to get to most places. Air conditioning worked well. Overall, we couldn't wait to get out of there. Definitely the worst reception we experienced during our three weeks in Italy. Over and above all this they charged more than we were quoted.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Martina House, and found Elena to be a gracious and well-informed hostess. We occupied 2 of the 4 rooms she has available, both of which were lovely with beautiful antique doors. The bathrooms are especially nice, compared with other places we had stayed. Except for the breakfast room, there are no common areas such as a lounge or tv room, and there is no one "on duty" round the clock. Initially, I thought this might be a problem, but we soon found it not to be the case. The location is great, a beautiful part of the city and very close to the Borghese Palace. We walked practically everywhere, but since it's on a hill, we cabbed it back each night.

Due to illness, we had to cancel our reservation two full days before we were to arrive. I advised Martina House directly by E-Mail on May 8, and I also advised Customer service@Venere.com the same day. No doubt your records will confirm this. On May 16th I received an acknowledgment from Carlo at Martina House saying "we are obliged to label your reservation as "NO SHOW" and therefore to charge it". I thought he was referring to the first night only - and I don't agree that two days advance notice is a "No Show". But I had to wait until I received my Visa statement (finally received just this week) to see what he has actually charged. To my surprise, he has charged for the full two nights at 130 Euros per night, coming to $422 Canadian. I don't think this is fair. Your first acknowledgment January 2 states quite clearly "Cancellation done during the last 7 days: CHARGE HALF OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE RESERVATION". So I don't mind paying the 130 Euros ($211 Canadian). But I would like you to put pressure on Martina House to refund 130 Euros for the second night. By the way, this questionnaire doesn't seem to want to be sent when I click "continue" and I suspect it's because at first I ignored the questions of how we like our stay (since we weren't there). I have now put in meaningless routine answers just to get it sent.

Martina House by the photos and description was fairly represented. The owner and daugheter were delightful. The problem was that they didn't tell us why they wanted to know the exact time of our arrival and that was because they are only at the property in the morning, so there is no one there to let you in after late morning. We arrived at 3 in the afternoon and had to stand on the street until someone came out of the building and would use their cell phone to call the owners. Our room was adequate, but there were no drawers or shelves to put clothes, only an armoire. We were there for 3 nights. Breakfast was nice but was not served until after 8:30 in the morning. The air conditioning or hot water did not work on our last day. We did not recieve a change of towels at any time during those 3 days. They were very helpful with directions and with very few changes Martina House would be a delightful place to stay., It is in an excellent location.

The property was wonderful; the location perfect and central. Elena is a fabulous hostess and was very helpful. She was available every morning after breakfast to book museum reservations, provide information on local sights, inquire about wheelchairs or book the shuttle to the airport. Although she is not always at the property, a cell phone number was always available. We felt as if we were staying at the home of a friend rather than a hotel.

The Martina house was a definate oasis in rome. Elena was very friendly and helpful for things to see in rome - her english is very decent- we followed her advice and had a wonderful stay. The rooms are clean and have lots of character. The b&b is on the 5th floor with a convenient elevator. The bathroom in our room was huge for italian standards - (the largest we had for our whole stay in italy) and everything was new and very clean with a large shower. The room was quiet and comfortable- ask for the room overlooking the courtyard, not the street. It is a short walk to the spanish steps and an even shorter walk to the beautiful, serene Borghese park in the center of rome. I will definately stay here next time i am in rome and recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely wonderful place and excellent location. Friendly owners - only minor disadvantage is the level of service at breakfast, where the landlady insists on serving every piece of bread etc. and watch you eat it! Martina House was a welcoming end to our 39 hour trip from home. We were greeted by the owner and she was very helpful with suggestions on things to see. She spoke very understandable English and gave us a map and explained how to get around Rome. We found that breakfast was a great time to meet other guests and plan our day. The room was quite spacious with a comfortable bed. Our hosts were very accomodating in letting us bring our son back with us from Florence on Friday night. We met Martina (the daughter) on our last day there. She was very sweet and helpful also. The only drawback at all to this establishment was that the air conditioning had been turned off and the days were quite hot. However, by evening the room cooled down and we were able to rest comfortably. I would definitely recommend Martina House to anyone coming to Rome. For the price you can't beat Martina House. And the fact that we were only a street away from the Via Veneto was great for shopping and dining. Overall this was a great place to stay and we would definitely stay at Martina House again if we return to Rome.

We were very happy with our stay at Martina House. The location was great and the proprietors were wonderful. We had a little trouble finding the place at first as the name was written very small on the doorbell....also it was confusing which floor it was on but once we realized we needed to take the elevator everything worked out great. The breakfast was o.k. We are more used to cereal or toast in the morning rather than cake.....but, Elena was so sweet and did a nice job serving us.

Martina House is a "Rick Steves kind of place". Owners were welcoming and nice. Location was terrific. Our group of three couples rented three rooms and everyone was happy with the place. Needs better identification at the street level. It was hard to find, even when standing in front of the doorway. It was located on the 5th floor of a building with offices, etc. Immediately across the Via Veneto from the Marriott Grand Flora.

My wife and I received a very warm welcome from Carlo and Elenora. The Martina House is situated on the fifth floor of a grand Roman building and is reached via a charmingly ancient Otis lift. (Travelling in this was an experience in itself!) The hotel is only small but this allowed us to get to know our hosts very well. They both spoke very good English and were able to recommend sights and eateries which proved to be excellent choices. They was very much a family feel to the hotel in which we were made to feel very welcome. We would certainly recommend the Martina House.

We were quite surprised by this accomodation - we had no idea it was simply a few rooms on one floor of a townhome. While the room was clean, it lacked certain amenities that should have been included in the cost. Neither our sheets nor our bath towels were replaced during our stay - quite disgusting. In addition, while the owners are very pleasant, beware the breakfast - it was simply coffee, juice and a loaf of bread. On our 2 week trip, this was the least satisfying place we stayed - quite unprofessional and not at all worth the money.

Our hostess was very friendly and helpful. The property was both beautiful and quaint. The noise was pretty bad but that is to be expected since we were right on Via Veneto. The only thing I thought could use some improvement was the breakfast. It was all Starches. Bread, Bread cereal and more Bread. Other than that we were very pleased with our accomodations and our stay there in Rome. We will recommend this B&B to all our friends. Thanks, Jack Cosgrove & Co.

This charming apartment on the 5th floor of an old building is a comfortable place to stay but I would recommend that if you like a really quiet room you request the courtside room rather than a streetside one. Downtown Rome has a persistent all night noise factor.

We thought we payed 120€ (which is rather expensive) for a room in a XVth century surronding, with a bathroom and a view over the villa Borghese. It could have been nice if it was true! in fact, the XVth century surronding existed but outside the room (in the common areas). the room itself was rubish furnitured. the bathroom was at the other end of the corridor and as the building is completely being renovated on the outside at the moment, we had a view on a nice scaffolding with workers on it instead of the villa Borghese!!! We have the feeling we have been fooled. that's a pity.

Friendly and accomodating - more like staying with friends than a hotel. Bustling surroundings and building wrapped in scaffolding in February 2003 but any such problems easily outweighed by the enthusiasm of the owners.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Martina House. The hospitality of Carlo & Elinora were absolutely delightful. I would recommend this B&B to anyone and everyone.

Location was perfect. We couldn't have been closer to all the best things to see in Rome. Spanish steps are "steps" away, shopping is a 5 minute walk, and great food is just as close. Martina House was nice. Because we like to try always try new things, we would not stay there again.

My husband and I are delighted to recommend Martina House. Its welcoming owner, excellent location, good shower and historic connections all conspire to make this a wonderful base from which to visit Rome. Ros McFeely

Location is fantastic. The owners were very friendly and helpful in trying to accomodate our needs and solve problems. The photos give a completely wrong impression of what the place is, as so does the name (Martina House is not a house). The site stated that a living room would be available for all guests to enjoy, but it was rented to a guest for good part of our stay, so we could not go into it. The air conditioner worked during the first night only, towards the end of our stay I found out that its plug was unplugged from the outlet (which is located in the dining room).
