If you are looking for inexpensive lodging in Rome and you are comfortable using public transportation, you can't do better than Le Stanze di Sara. Simple train ride (8 Euros) from Fuimincino to the Trastevere station then a 5-minute walk straight down Viale di Trastevere to Sara's on the right side of the street. The #8 tram and numerous bus lines stop within 50 meters of the building. There are many osterias, tavola caldas, wine bars, etc. within a few city blocks - offering an opportunity for inexpensive meals. A few nice, moderately-priced restaurants are within an easy walk. More restaurant choices are one or two tram stops toward Rome center. The apartment is surprisingly quiet but if you are in a room at the rear of the apartment the courtyard supermarket receives deliveries at about 7:00 a.m. so that is a bit noisy. We found it quite tolerable and the market is extremely convenient. The apartment is very clean. The bathroom is large except for the tiny shower (no surprise here - it's Europe). The breakfast room is a bit cramped but juice, fruit, yogurt, cereal, toast, coffee and tea are fine for a simple breakfast. Sara is quite pleasant, speaks very good English, is helpful and eager to please. You may get a treat and meet Sara's delightful daughter Rebecca. I get a little tired of the crowded public transport so if you're fatigued or rushed just grab a cab by standing at the tram station or walk to the taxi stands at the Trastevere train station. By the way, if you're in Rome for a week and planing on seeing many sites the Roma pass is definitely worthwhile. Thanks much, Sara, for a pleasant visit.

This "B&B" is really just an apartment where you are renting a room. The breakfast is self-serve, lots of it from open large containers (like the peanut butter or jam), and the cappuccino is powdered. The worst part was that when we arrived for a three-night stay we were told that we would have to spend the first night at a different location two blocks away, then change rooms the next day. That alternate facility was small and filthy. While the owner was very nice, she had difficulty giving us directions, and was not present on the premises after checking us in. This was more like "dormitory" living than a B&B---no charm, you could hear every sound from every room, every toilet flushing. The hair dryer provided shot sparks when I tried to use it! All in all a very disappointing experience.

Pros: Sara stocks lots of foods for you to eat anytime, which came in handy when I was ill for a couple days. Location safe and near to 2 Universities, so lots of English speakers there. Also, located at the end of the Porta Portese flea market on Sunday which was where the "antiques" were which made me happy. Close to tram, train from airport and restaurants. Con: You should have an Ipad to be here so you can contact Sara--who is more than happy to answer you quickly--anytime. She does not live at the B&B, so if seeking answers as to which bus to take and where to go can be difficult. It is something to think about.

I've been in Sara's b&b during the first days of jenuary 2014. Sara was so kind in the welcoming and the sensation was to stay in my house. There are all the facilities you can require from a house and it was absolutely over our expectations in comparison to the cheap prices! The kitchen is well-stocked with everything for breakfast but also to cook for other meals. The position is well located (near Trastevere) but it takes about 15/20 minutes walking to reach the heart of Trastevere. But there is also a bus under the house that takes you to the center of Rome and it is really useful.

Have to be honest - I cannot give this the rave reviews I read elsewhere. Pros: location close to Trastavere train station and walking distance to Trastavere restaurants and many Rome sites. Clean and spacious room, ongoing access to kitchen, washing machine, balcony off of bedroom, reasonable rate. Cons: rickety bed frame, very noisy from traffic, also could clearly hear everyone in the hallway. The owner was nice, but we met her briefly just twice. I think she sleeps elsewhere, so it didn't feel like a traditional bed and breakfast where the owner welcomes you into their home. Coming back at night was a little strange - into an empty building, up four flights of stairs, into a dark, empty feeling apartment. Also, the area of the Viale del Trastavere was dark with lots of garbage, and smelled of urine. I am used to older cities, and didn't feel unsafe, but it would have taken several nights before I would feel totally comfortable walking in that specific area at night by myself.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Sara's on our last trip to Rome. I was so impressed by the level of service she provided. As soon as I booked the room she emailed me asking for our flight details and gave us directions to the inn. She is just so helpful! The rooms themselves are also very nice; we did not have our own bathroom, but that was not a problem as the communal bathroom was kept immaculate. Overall, I thought it was great value for the asking price and I would stay here again.

Sara is so nice! She helped us a lot! You can feel that she loves her family, friends, and visitors. She also likes to travel and enjoys everything in her life. She's so kind and generous. She treats all men alike, no matter where you come from. What an amazing woman! Thanks for your gelato, Sara.I love you! Hope Lee and I will see you again soon. :)
