Bed and Breakfast Al Colonnato di San Pietro - Rome
Viale Delle Mura Aurelie 19 - Rome
877-662-6988Despite our central location, the street were the B&B is located is pedestrian, so our rooms overlooking the Aurelian walls are quite silent.
From the balconies you can enjoy the view of the walls and the gardens located inside them, and experience Rome's charming atmosphere.
I can not say enough about this place! My Mother and I stayed during a Europe whirlwind trip and our Rome stay would not have been as amazing if we had not stayed at...

I can not say enough about this place! My Mother and I stayed during a Europe whirlwind trip and our Rome stay would not have been as amazing if we had not stayed at this Hotel! The employees were so helpful going as far as scheduling train tickets/museam appointments! Best location right in the middle of it all. Will recommend to everyone EVER going to Rome!

Rosa is wonderful! Very accomodating and helpful, recommending restaurants and giving directions. The room was very nice. Only problem was that the bathroom was across the hall (for this room anyway)

The biggest advantage of this hotel is undoubtedly Rosa (the owner) and her staff. They made our stay there seem as though we were family. When we inadvertently locked ourselves out of our room, she came right over from her home a few bus stops away to help us out. She was waiting for us on our arrival and gave us great directions on how to get there from the airport. The room was clean and comfortable. The location right across the street from the Vatican was great. The noise was a bit of a problem since we were right near a street tunnel and the traffic was loud. This was compounded by the need to keep the windows open (no A/C). Breakfast was typical for Italy (coffee, biscotti, croissants and juice. I would stay at this B and B when in Rome again.

My husband and I would highly recommend this B&B. Rosa Maria is wonderful. She not only arranged for a shuttle from the airport for us, but she was extremely helpful in trying to get our suitcases back for us after the airlines lost BOTH of them. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast, which was wheeled into our room every morning on a cart, was freshly prepared and the best we had in Italy. The location is great, very close to St Peter's Square, and easy access to busses. We can't say enough nice things about this B&B and Rosa, and would definitely stay here again. Melda, who works with Rosa, is very helpful and pleasant, too.

Our stay in Rome could not have been better. We owe so much to Rosa Maria and Meldi for helping us get around. It was the first time on our trip through Italy that anyone really took the time to help us figure out the metro system, give us tips on the city, give us needed warnings, and offer advice on special gems in the city. (I would never have seen Caravaggio's St. Matthew if Rosa Maria hadn't told me) We had a room with a private exterior bath. It was odd but we didn't mind. At first we felt like we were all alone but by the end of three days we were having drinks with our neighbors. I cannot say enough about our stay here. Our hosts were so sweet. The breakfast was yummy for European standards. And great access to restaurants and the bus stop.

Very, very friendly and helpfull in every way. You feel welcome at once and the maid, who come each morning to make the breakfast and clean the room, is speaking good English. You are served a nice breakfast in your room. You have your own fridge in the room for keeping drinks cool, but no teamaking facilities (as I am used to in the UK) and no common room - so you don´t meet the other guests. The whole property is under renovation and will become very pretty when finished. You are very close to the Vatican and easily by bus reach the city.

Great Location (100 yards from St Peters Square) for Vatican and bus line (64 & 571 bus)Rosa Maria and Meldy were extremely helpful to us and very friendly. Great value, great location, very nice people. Only negative was the common areas of the building were being worked on but it did not effect us sleeping or accessing the building. We truly enjoyed our stay at Al Colonnato di San Pietro. The location was great, basically just a short walk to St. Peter's. The breakfasts were very good, particularly in comparison to other B&B's we experienced. The owner, Rosa Maria, was extremely helpful, which was definitely something we didn't see elsewhere in the other Italian cities we visited. She went out of her way to help us resolve a situation with reservations we needed later in our trip and was very knowledgeable regarding local tourist sites. Her English is quite good. All in all, we highly recommend this B&B!

Very enjoyable stay. The owner was there to great us upon our arrival, in fact she found us in the street as the entrance to the building was blocked by scaffolding. Room was cleaned daily and a great breakfast was delivered promptly. Owner was very helpful and provided us with answers and suggestions during the stay. Room has a small fridge and safe. There is also a small TV but no satellite connections. Would stay there again for it's great location (close to the vatican and st. peter's basilica) and bus transportation, just around the corner.

I really enjoyed my stay and was very impressed with Al Colonnato di San Pietro. We arrived quite late in the evening as our flight was delayed, but the driver we had booked had waited, and Rosa Maria was at the apartment to welcome us. The highlights of the accommodation are the location - right next to St Peter's Basilica, and the breakfasts delivered to the room which comprised of everything you could want (croissants, coffee, fruit salad, toast, selection of conserves, bread rolls and fruit juice).

Fortunate to stay @al colonnato di San Pietro after discovering Venere. Rosa Maria contacted me immediately after I placed my reservations requesting my travel info and provided me with pertinent info(train, bus, directions, watch for pickpockets, etc). I regret contacting Rosa Maria since I was late due to the late afternoon commute traffic. She greeted & welcomed us to her B&B with an abundance of info. It must have been after 8pm by the time Rosa Marie left our room. We stayed in the green room, the largest of 3 with a private bath. The room was meticulosly clean, hardwood floors, air con, marble bathroom. Breakfast was served each morning in your room by Meldi. Coffee of your choice(our cappucino was as good as one's you buy at the cafe's), yogurt, fresh fruit, nice warm crossiant, bread, other snacks. We never ate lunch except having a cappucino, pastry and gelatti. Location was great across from St Peters. Never had to take the metro. Bus 64 around the corner took us back to Termini. Did take 110 bus tour for 13E which allows you to jump off and on the bus at 11 diff point of interest for the whole day(well worth it). Rosa Marie and Meldi made our stay in Rome very pleasant that we did not want to leave for Firenze! Highly recommended and looking forward for a return visit.

We had a great time staying there over the easter period. We were made to feel very welcome and the big breakfasts in the morning were excellent fuel for busy days we had exploring Rome. The location is literally about a 2 minute walk from St. Peters square and a 30 sec walk from the no. 64 bus stop which can take you all over the city centre.

The stay at Rosa Marias B&B was fantastic. Rosa is very kind, reliable and helpful, she knows a lot and gives good advices. The B&B is very good located, you just cross the street and you are in the Vatican- city. Moreover it is quiete, has nice and modern furnished rooms. The bathrooms are also very modern and clean as the whole B&B. The breakfast is also tasty and served in the bedroom. We will come back to this great City and to Rosas B&B.

We opted for the "Blue Room" with private bath (including shower, sink, toilet and bidet). The room was spotlessly maintained, and the double bed was firm and comfortable. Rosa Maria and Meldy made sure that our breakfast was on time and perfect for a long day of sightseeing. For those very hot Rome summer nights, air conditioning has been installed. While this B&B is not quite central to most of the sights, it is very close to the colonnade of St. Peter's Square (hence the name) and is served by the famous 64 bus, as well as a short walk to the Ottaviano stop of the Linea A metro and the 116 and 115 buses from the Gianicolo terminal. When we return to Rome, we will be sure to stay with Rosa Maria and Meldy.

My wife and I traveled to Rome as part of our honeymoon trip that included Venice and parts of Croatia. We stayed here 4 nights during our trip that ended 21 October 2005.This B&B gets an excellent rating from us. Some areas of Rome certaintly are closer to the city's center. But as Al Colonnato di San Pietro's name suggests, it is extremely convenient for visitors to the Vatican but relatively far from the center of Rome. Rome being a very walkable city (except having to dodge the traffic and follow the maps), this didn't matter much. You could certainly do worse than being greeted to a view of the Basilica as you head out in the morning. The real treasures in this little B&B are its owner, Rosa Maria, and her jack-of-all trades Meldi. Their standards are so high, all the details fall into place. The rooms were the nicest by far of all the places we've stayed in Europe. Our rate was 110E... if these rooms were in a hotel a 15 minute walk away, they'd go for more than twice as much. All the furnishings were beautiful and well arranged. The bathrooms were spotless and seemed brand new. Rosa-Maria is very charming, and she gave us advice about directions, bus routes, and things to see. As people have noted, Meldi's English is indeed excellent. It's almost silly to say that, because she grew up speaking it. When she wheeled in the breakfast cart with croissants, bowls of diced fruit, juice, and cappucino (or whatever hot drink you prefer), and plenty else, we felt very spoiled. Long story short, we will certainly be back. Also, ask Rosa Maria about the Pizzeria she frequents near the thoroughfare Corso Vittorio Emanuel II. We had the best dinner (and least expensive) of all those we took in Rome. We split a pizza arrabiata and the homemade gnocchi, had wine, coffee, and dessert, and left happy, sated, and a little drunk. *** Note: If you are visiting for the first time, note that the B&B is right on the corner of Via delle Fornaci and Viale delle Mura Aur

By far one of the best places we found!!! Hidden in a residential building and across the street from St. Peter’s, this 3-bedroom apartment turned cozy B&B is yet another of Rome’s treasures. Host Rosa has left not a single detail behind – from the elegant floor-to-ceiling drapes with the matching duvet to the most amazing breakfast we had in all of Italy! Rosa’s hospitality helped make our Roman experience an amazing one!

My husband and I were more than pleased with our room and stay in Roma. We were a bit worried about the outside of the building when we first seen it, but don't let that bother you as everything else was excellent. The nearness to the Vatican was fantastic. Our hostess was unable to greet us and called us twice to be sure that everything was as expected. The room was absolutely spotless and our breakfast was amazing. Meldi, the assistant was extremely knowageable and well spoken. We would highly recommended staying here to anyone who is looking for a very wonderful place to stay at an excellent rate.

This is an excellent choice if you're searching for a B&B. When we first arrived the owner provided us with free maps, directions to local site's, restaurants, etc. The hostess was also extremely warm, friendly, and always willing to help. The room was spotless! It was cleaned every morning when we went sightseeing. The breakfast was the best I've had in Italy. Fresh fruit cups, yogurt, cappuccino, juices, croissants, etc. Location: You're about 150 meters from St. Peters Basillica. This is a great choice.

We had been to Rome on 3 previous occasions and this time wanted to be nearer to the centre. This property is just behind the St Peters Square collonades and could not be better located. We were met on arrival by the owner - Rosa and were made very welcome - with loads of advice on travelling, restaurants and Rome in general. The Restaurants recommended by Rosa were fantastic - and much better than those we had previously found by chance. The accommodation is superb - we defy anyone to find even a speck of dust anywhere - and Rosa's assistant Meldi is an absolute treasure. The breakfasts which she produced - at the exact time that you requested - were almost unbelievable - very, very appetising and definately set you up for a good days sightseeing or whatever. Nothing is too much trouble for either Rosa or Meldi and you have a genuine feeling that they really want you to enjoy your time with them. We were lucky to have been in Rome at the time of the new Pope's first Sunday morning address and blessing to the thousands in St Peters Square - quite an awesome experience. In summary - we would recommend this property to anyone - its location is wonderful - as you step out of the door you are faced with St Peters Dome - its owner is extraordinarily helpful and knowledgeable - and Meldi is an absolute treasure. Dont bother with expensive Hotels and the like - this is the place to be -but leave us a room for our next visit as we shall certainly return.

I am so glad I chose to stay at Al colonnato di san pietro. The location is ideal a stones throw from St Peters in a private courtyard. The accomodation is beautiful and extremely clean and comfortable. We were welcomed by Rosa who was really friendly and wanted to do all she could to make sure we had a pleasant stay. Rosa spent time with us on our arrival explaining all the best places to go and how to get there. This is a wonderful place to stay when you are in Rome. We arrived during the hectic time of the Papal funeral and Rosa Maria could not have been more understanding of the flight time delays and problems involved. She had said she would arrange a driver for us, and even with several million extra people in Rome and arriving after midnight...there was our driver Fabio waiting for us! The room was lovely, with a modern attractive bathroom and quality wooden finishings. The old Aurelian wall of the city was across the road and with St Peters Square just yards away, the location was great. Our breakfast was brought with a smile every morning by Meldi, if you get a chance have a talk with her, she is fun. Rosa Maria our host (Try your best Italiano!)was charming and could not have been more helpful with tips and advice about where to eat and how to get about to see the sights. Rosa Maria even arranged for a friend who took us to the airport. We cannot recommend Al Colonatto di San Pietro highly enough. But please don't book at the same time as us! We would hate to miss out on staying there again!

The location was perfect, adjacent to the Vatican and St. Peters. Our room was beautiful, the bathroom was luxurious and spotless. The foyer was so welcoming, with the aroma of blossoms. We loved the richness of the hardwood floors. Rosa Maria was so helpful. We had dinner at the restaurant she recommended and enjoyed it immensely. Meldi delivered our choices of coffees in the morning--a highlight! And Rosa Maria arranged for her friend Marco to drive us to the airport-- a timesaver at 5:45 a.m. in the morning. My wife and I were overwhelmed with the fantastic service and friendliness of the host and her staff. I would want them as close friends! The location could not have been more convenient and safe. Extremely easy access to public transportation (don't drive in Rome unless you're suicidal.) Rose, our hostess, was very welcoming and friendly. She was very helpful showing us different sites to see and which buses to take. The rooms were extremely clean and quiet. The location is right behind St. Peter's and a 2 minute walk to the Vatican. The breakfast consisted of rolls, yogurt, small cheeses and crackers/cookies, coffee, juice and fruit. Plan on eating lots of carbs in Italy. I would definitely stay here again. The only drawback was that there was not a common room for eating breakfast. Rose and her very capable help brought breakfast to your room, which was a little cramped. We thought this B&B was a very good value.

This is an extremely good value, especially for anyone whose trip includes Vatican sites. I don't think it is possible to get an accommodation that is closer to the Vatican. As a result, the neighborhood and the building are very safe. We also found a surprising number of good restaurants close by. The bathroom and the breakfast are first-rate and far exceed what one gets in most Rome hotels. We enjoyed having breakfast delivered to the room every morning. The bed was very comfortable and the window looks out on a quiet side street, so there was no problem with noise. You have to understand, however, that this B and B -- like many other B and B's in Italy -- is not a small hotel. Rather, it is an apartment with 3 tasteful guestrooms that share an entryway. For those who want to put down temporary roots in Rome and become part of the city, it is especially delightful. In the evening you feel as if you are returning to your own home. But understand that you won't have night desk clerks, a bar, or a few other items that come standard with a hotel. If you understand that, the high quality of the room, the location of the house, and the warm service from Rosa and Meldi, will win you over very quickly. The pleasant hosts genuinely want you to have a good experience, and they will go way out of their way to help you with directions, museum tickets, transportation, etc. This is a great find that adds to the experience of Rome.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Rosa Maria and Mandy were lovely and very helpful. The room and bath is clean, modern and has the amenities we wanted. The breakfast is delicious and more than just a continential breakfast, with fruit, yougart and terrific breads. We had most of our activities in the Vatican area, and the location is right there. Also we rode bus 64 everywhere we needed to go. The subway stop was also nearby. The area trattorias are very good also. If you are looking for an authentic B&B experience in Rome near St. Peter's, it is ideal. If you desire public rooms and hotel amenities, this is not for you. We had an awesome stay at Al Colonnato di San Pietro! Rosa Maria was SO FRIENDLY and helpful!! She spent much time going over maps of Rome and telling us what is great to see while we were there. The rooms were beautiful. We had the room with the private bath. The bathroom has marble floors and tile. The rooms have hard wood floors and the 2 armoires have a lot of room to store your luggage. The bed was very comfortable and the high ceilings and mouldings made the room seem larger than it was. Breakfast was delivered to our room every morning at the time we suggested. Breakfast was very nice. It included various rolls, juice, coffee, fruit salad and yogurt....some cheese and crackers too. The location was very convenient as well. It is right across the street to the Vatican and we were able to walk most places. Bus 64 stops right across the street from the B&B and stops at many convenient locations. Remember bus 64! You will take this bus many times in Rome. The place was extremely quiet and we will definitely stay there again when we come back to Rome. This B&B is amazing! Rosa Maria and her husband run a very clean, quiet, and welcoming B&B. The location is wonderful - quiet and just across the street from the Vatican. The room has air conditioning, which was beyond my expectation for the low price, after having looked at other hotels in Rome online. Also, we were able to choose what we had for breakfast from a list and also when we wanted it delivered to our room. I will stay again when returning to Rome.

Al Colonnato exceeded expectations. The location is ideal particularly if you are visiting the Vatican Museum and St Peters. Rosa our hostess was a delight. She anticipated our every need, helped with arranging visits and supplied the most gorgeous breakfasts. I hope we can stay there again.

Location, rooms excellent but locating the apartment was impossible without asking several people. we wasted 1.5 hours trying to find the place [apartment was within a complex but not indicated at the front of the building]

Welcome started with a detailed e-mail how to reach the B&B by public transport and other things important for the visitor arriving in Rome. Rooms were completely renovated with nice, spacey and with clean bathroom. (room standard at lest of a 4 Star hotel) Breakfast was great compared with Italian Standard (fruit juice, yoghurt, fresh fruits, cornflakes, coffee, tea...) Great location in a quiet side road only about 200 m from St. Peter Cathedral. Helpful stuff with niche suggestions where to go and what to do.
