Bed and Breakfast Ancient Romance - Rome
Via Ottaviano 9 - Rome
877-662-6988The B&B, housed in a splendid late 19th century building, combines luxury elegance and modern comfort.
The B&B central location is extremely convenient to reach by walk or by underground the most popular attractions of Rome, such as Castel Sant'Angelo, Navona square, the Spanish steps, the Colosseum, the Pantheon or Villa Borghese. Furthermore the area is full of restaurants, shops and bars.
GREAT location, terrifice staff. Amazingly quiet rooms considering the busy location. Breakfast was there, ready for us at our convenience and served as lunch on one...

GREAT location, terrifice staff. Amazingly quiet rooms considering the busy location. Breakfast was there, ready for us at our convenience and served as lunch on one day as well. They even provided fruit! Bed comfortable and linens new. Thanks so much for a great place to stay!

A pretty good location near the Vatican city and a metro station. Lots of restaurants nearby. Overall a reasonably nice stay with minor annoyances such as pick up service being late, unavailability on payment for room by credit card and noisiness of plumbing. Breakfast was mostly dry goods, so not so great. Final thought was that the stay was ok, but I wouldn't stay there again.

The room is excellent value for money and the location half way between the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's basilica is unbeatable. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful about things like where to catch a bus (#81 goes from the Piazza del Risorgimento a half-block away to the Vittoriano monument at the edge of the Forum) and where to find the best pizza. There are limitations. The office is the breakfast room and there is no place to sit and eat. The offerings are also very slim. Furnishings are spartan but the bed and wood parquet flooring are comfortable. Those who are sensitive to noise may be bothered. There is no external sign for Ancient Romance, which is on the 5th floor of a condominium at 9, via Ottaviano, and it is easy to walk past it without spotting it. The ancient cage elevator accomodates one person and their bags.

2 large and nice rooms in the 5 people appartment,1 big bathroom but the shower is small! the kitchen has just a microwave, cupboards, table and chairs and contains what you need for the breakfast except the coffe machine, which is shared with the other rooms. All is very clean!Quiet surroundings. We enjoyed it. We were 2 couples and a single(his bed was tiny compared to the doubles!)

We stayed at "Sleeping Romance" the new venue of Acient Romance. New, clean, perfect location next to metrostation. Our room was on the innerside of the building. The breakfast was o.k. you can make your own juice and espresso and toast with jam with fresh yoghurt and prepacked bread. If the bread and maybe some proscuitto or chease would we be fresh i would give the accomodation a 10.

Breakfast 0 If you see the price you can have a better hotel with a continental breakfast for the same price, for example the hotel Julius Cesar, where we went the first time to Rome, four months ago, was 100% better for the same price.

The place was really nice and I loved the location near San Pietro's Plaza. We have some problems with the air condition in the biggest room and Rome was so hot. Additionally, the shower is smaller even the bath room is bigger. The staff is so helpful and definitely it's a good option to stay at Rome.

Main acomodation a few hundred meters down from reception building. We had two spacious very clean rooms in a common floor with others. Shared kitchen facilities. Welcoming staff, Massimo was wonderful and warmly welcoming. It felt like a home away from home. Bonus was the free wi-fi and pc available in the entrance hall. Around the corner from the Vatican and Metro station at the door. Excellent location away from crowds and very quite at night, highly recommend this establishment. Thank you all at Ancient Romance you were great !

Perfect accommodation, 200 meters from St. Peter's Square and all the city public transports, metro and bus. Rooms spacious and comfortable, staff very kind and friendly. The only drawback is the breakfast "poor and scarce"; it should be much improved, even though the method allows drinks and snacks available for 24 h.

We had a most enjoyable stay. Stayed in a courtyard room which was very quiet. Continuous supply of coffee/tea/juice & biscuits/cakes/yoghurts/fruit at our disposal any time of day/night in a separate kitchen for guests use. Very close to metro. Easy walking distance of the Vatican & St Peters. In fact we visited St Peters a number of times in the early evening before dinner, it was a wonderful way to end a hectic day.

The 2 rooms we rented were very clean and spacious. Although the building is located at a very busy street, the rooms are well sound-proofed so they are quiet. The location is very close to the Vatican and the Metro. We were very pleased staying there - great value for the money. We would recommend it to anyone. We will stay there again.

Ancient romance is a great little B&B. Situated really close to St Peter's and Vatican museum. When we checked in at no 9 Otovianno right next to the geletaria blue ice? we were taken 2 small blocks away to our room which is in the new building(sleeping romance). This was no a problem as the very helpful Georgio took my bags. The new rooms are modern, air-conditioned and have true hi speed wifi plus a computer in the common area. I only scored size and noise 7 because you can hear conversations through the doors very easily. Our room was small but others looked bigger. These two issues weren't a problem for us as everyone was respectful. Breakfast simple ut kitchen available to eat and drink anything all day. Great to go back to during the heat of the day. The common areas aren't air conditioned but not too much of a problem. Recommendations. Walk to St Peters by 8.30 am and don't line up, just walk straight in before the crowds. Also wait till after midday or after 2.30 to avoid the massive line at Vatican museum. Don't be fooled by people telling you the wait will be hours. If using the metro get back to Ottoviano by 9 pm because the busses running as replacements after 9 pm are really confusing and aren't easy to tell where they will pick up or drop off. Wouldn't hesitate to use ancient romance again. The staff couldn't be more helpful. Get gelato from the old bridge gelataria opposite the Vatican walls as you walk towards the Vatican museum.

Great accomodation. Staff is very friendly and helpful, rooms are clean and common kitchen offers snacks, coffee, tea, juice, fruit etc 24/7. They have rooms in multiple locations. If you get there and the main lobby at via Ottaviano, 9 is closed, call the phone number and they'll come to get you within minutes.

We were transferred to another apartment, not the one that was advertised on the web. Room didn’t have a view, but was extremely quiet! Be aware that you have to use the same towels, staid for 4 days and it was a challenge to keep them clean and dry. No breakfast, only some prepackaged sweets and bread, if you don’t care about what you eat at the morning it’s ok. Location is fabulous.

This is a great place, very close of main attractions...by foot, just 5-10 min to the Vatican City and museums. The staff members are very committed to help and give advice about Rome and the best places to visit...the breakfast is very good. In the afternoon or evening, if you are thirsty or hungry, you can get snacks and juice with no limits and no charge.

We stayed at Ancient Romance for two nights in May 2011. Positives: We loved the elevator, the free Wi-fi, the breakfast and the room size, the view, the safe, the fridge, the bed and the bidet. Negatives: We had difficulty finding this B&B which is located on the fifth floor. No English speaking TV station. The shower head needed maintenance. Our room faced the road so was very noisy and the toilet made loud noises which also disturbed our sleep. The location for attractions, shopping and restaurants made Ancient Romance worth the price. We would stay again but only in a room that didn't face the road.

Nice rooms, good welcoming, young receptionists who can make you feel really at home. Very close to the subway stop "ottaviano", 5 mins walking to Saint Peter Square, 20 mins walking to Trastevere, Navona Square and Campo Dei Fiori (cool zones for nightlife). Sure one of the best b&b where I've been!

We would like to make an exception to the manager named giorgio marzano. he made sure that we were oriented with the apartment and facilities. giorgio made sure that we were oriented with the city and its must visit places, he went out of his way to point out very good restaurants we could indulge in without the prohibitive cost. in short, giorgio is the man who made our visit to rome most enjoyable and totally unforgettable. giorgio was awesome! the rooms were big and clean, the beds were a bit sagging though and the shower enclosement was very small considering d big area of the bathroom. the location is great, with the vatican and st peter's basilica a few steps away, the bus station a stone's throw away and d metro station was about 5 min walk. i didn't expect the "italian bfast buffet" mentioned in d webpage as self serve though.

I stayed at the Ancient Romance hotel for about 4 nights and had a great time. If they added an English channel or two on the TV or had a few English DVDs available and a washing machine, it would've been absolutely perfect! Nonetheless, the staff there was very hospitable. They helped direct us to the sights, recommended great restaurants, and even helped us find entertainment and theaters! We also loved the free WI-FI and the computer that was set up in the communal hallway. The kitchen was also a great addition for storing beverages and was always fully stocked with everything from toast to yogurts, fruits, great snacks and pies!

The Rome is great, everybody know. The Vatican is great, but maybe not everybody like. But if you like architecture, fine arts, culture, restaurants and maybe you are religious, this is VERY PLACE TO STAY FOR YOU - "Ancient Romance B&B". Very close to St. Peter's Basilica. Very good conditions, rooms like in many stars hotel. They have very symbolic reception, but staff is very nice and helpful. Opened kitchen gives you home comfort. Very good price if you think about the room and location. I will be back ! I will not try to find some other place to stay in Rome.

The location is excellent, very close to the metro and 100 metres from the vatican. the reception staff were very helpful on arrival with a city map, general advice, bus numbers, recommended a value for money typical local restaurant quite close, etc, etc, excellent. we stayed in a double apartment room which was comfortable. the drawbacks were, bathroom fittings were loose and the shower door was ill fitting. the breakfast which you prepared yourself, which was no problem, was missing cheese, perhaps a selection of cooked meat and eggs.

At first glance my review probably seems like a sham, but it is no mistake that I have given this place straight 10's. After using the transfer service offered by Ancient Romance (slightly cheaper than a taxi from FCO), we arrived to this nice apartment building just one block from the wall of Vatican city. I was greeted AT THE LIFT by one of the young guys that runs the place. He was extremely nice and energetic. We had been unknowingly upgraded to the full apartment (we had reserved a triple) at no extra charge. The common area is filled with food that they restock often. The apartment had a separate supply of food on the kitchen table. The bathroom was HUGE, as were the rooms themselves. I could go on forever about this place but I will simply say that I am a fairly seasoned traveler and this was one of the best lodging experiences I've ever had. Excellent staff, excellent location, excellent rooms, and free wifi. You can't ask for more.

The location was good, very close to Vatican City, lots of eating places and shops around. The cleanliness could have been better, they didn't wipe the floor at all or change the towels during our staying. One of the rooms and the kitchen did not have windows so the light was kind of low. The owner and the staff were very nice, they provided us maps and kept our luggages until departure.

The location was great. The people were very accomoditing. The only thing that I think would help, would be for them to increase the price of the rooms to accomodate the payment by credit card. The rate of exchange is very bad in Italy, especially, when you have to pay 15% just to exchange your money at a Change Location. Other than that I would and have recommended them to my friends and family. Hope to be back within the next year or two. Speaking Italian I hope. Thanks for a great stay and looking forward to seeing you again in the future.

My wife and I were on vacation for the first time in Rome, and staying in Ancient Romance was very pleasant. Starting from the very friendly and cooperative staff and owner (thanks Massimo & Michele), to the free internet, spacious rooms, and free coffee and snacks throughout the day, made our trip a very comfortable one. The B&B is very nicely located just outside the Vatican, a 5 minute walk from the Metro Station, and a 1 minute walk from the bus and tram station.

Very happy with localisations, with rooms but it is amazing to pay that price for such noisy place ! Impossible to sleep all the first night due to too much street noice. Need hear taps . I advice the owner to put double windows otherwise reducing drastically the price. This is unnacceptable.

I went to Rome for work-related reasons and I chose this B&B for its location: next to St Peter's Basilica and close to the city centre; metro and buses within 100 mt... Considering the sorroundings, the cleanliness of rooms and the quality of services, it was a great stay. Given the traffic in the area, some noise was the only negative aspect.

Great choice to stay in Roma. The location is good, the room is cosy, and the breakfast is wonderful. If there's enough hot water for us to take a shower, it would be perfect! Overall, I think it's a nice place and would like to recommend it to people who want to visit Roma and vatican city.

The best, the room, quiet, big and cleaned every day. The bathroom also quite fine. Commons aeras are a not as amazing as the room. Small hall with a big table for breakfeast (available all the day) with some pies, kellogs, bread and toast bread, jam, expresso machine, etc. A small kitchen also available with a fridge were you will finde juices and water (not mineral). Location next to the vatican and metro and several bus lines. A bit expensive for being a B&B (90 euros per nigh in my case)

Ancient Romance was perfect! It was really easy to access from the metro (just 6 stops from Termini Station) and then a 5 minute walk straight up the road. The area around was great - you could see the Vatican walls out the window. There were also lots of shops and places to eat and drink. The neighbourhood also fealt very safe. The beds were very comfy. The only complaint we have is the water system in the bathrooms. (I'm assuming it's the same for all 3 rooms - but if not, we stayed in the red room that is pictured on the website). Anyway, the water system is very loud in the bathroom. Everytime water goes down the drain or you flush the toilet, a loud sound is made. Also, the hot water tank in the bathroom is very small - so the two of us had to spread out our showers by an hour so that the 2nd person wouldn't run out of hot water. Other than that, it was great. We would definately stay there again if we go back to Rome.

Excellent location (5-minute walk to Vatican) and yet quiet and safe. Food and drinks made available 24 hours daily. Elevator accessed. Very clean and newly renovated. Michael was very welcoming and gave good suggestions for sight-seeing places and restaurants. Only complaints (if any) would be the strange noise from the water pump for the toilet that would sound after use of the shower or sink, and that the movable A/C unit's water tank had to be emptied during the night. Overall a very lovely B&B and we enjoyed it. We would recommend it to friends.

Altamente recomendable.
