About Bed and Breakfast Alle Fornaci San Pietro

b&b - exterior Bed and Breakfast Alle Fornaci a San Pietro b&b - exterior Alle Fornaci a San Pietro is a welcoming property located within metres of St Peter’s Basilica in central Rome. Its amazing Domus Room offers stunning views of the Basilica.

The apartment was conceived in an original style, both in its structure and in its furniture. The rooms are spacious, bright and colourful and open onto the Fornaci (“furnaces”) street, so called because the area once hosted numerous brick factories. One room boasts incredible views of St. Peter's dome.

Major attractions to visit on foot include the Vatican Museums, Castel Sant’Angelo, Piazza Navona, Campo de' Fiori, the Pantheon.

A number of buses depart for the city centre right outside the property (20 metres), and the Ottaviano–San Pietro Metro Station is a pleasant 10-15 minute stroll away (cross St. Peter's Square to reach Piazza Risorgimento, the start of one of Rome's best shopping streets, via Cola di Rienzo).

A very quiet and safe haven for a busy vacation in Rome. The ninety steps you have to take to the B&B are absolutely worth it (rooms are at the 4th floor of an old building lacking space for an elevator....)

A wonderful B&B with the exception of no elevator. The closeness to the Vatican is wonderful, and the decor and style of the B&B chic, modern and so Italian. I loved it. The local breakfast down the street was good as well.

Overall my family and I rated the accomodation provided to us in Aug 2009 as adequate and fit for purpose. The accomodation was as advertised and is superbly situated (about 500M from St Peters Basilica). Our room was the family en suite Room which was fine for 3 persons, but it was let down by some basic attention to detail items. E.g. the clean towels we were provided with smelt and the en suite's shower facility needed a good clean (it had mildew and grime build up in the cubicle and the tiling and grouting needed cleaning). The shower drain also made the room smell. Anyone considering this accomodation should be aware of the 8 flights of stairs need to reach the rooms. Overall, we considered the room to be average 'Value for Money' with a little bit of TLC to the cleanliness items above our ranking would have increased significantly.

Very originally styled B&B. Host takes good care. Very nice atmosphere. Lots of steps to climb as mentioned in other reviews, but you get rewarded with a look at St. Peters on every floor. If you like to spend the evening nearby the B&B, we recommend to take the short walk to the bit more lively "Borgo Pio" street near the Vatican. Ignore the first few restaurants where the waiters are trying to get you in (always a good strategy to avoid tourist traps) and you will find a nice trattoria where you can eat and almost accross of it a nice pub where you can catch some real roman spirit.

B&B Alle Fornaci is a really private accomodation for a pleasent stay - the most valuable advantage is its location next to St. Peter and a lot of pretty italian shops and bars around (and: line 64 to/from Termini). NICE TO STAY! EVER AGAIN!

located just outside the Vatican wall. We were warmly welcomed. Since there was no elevator our host helped us bring our luggage up the several flights of stairs to our room. The room was clean and spacious and we had a great view of Saint Peter's. I would recommend to others just be sure that you are healthy enough to climb several flight s of stairs.

Excellant location for the Vatican. Room was clean and well presented and serviced daily. Staff was accommodating and friendly. Coffee shops and resturants easily available and many more at various price ranges within a 10-15 minute walk. Though the stairs did not present an issue for us they could for older people. Hot water at times was lacking. Breakfast was pretty basic at a small cafe down the street. Though it is an issue that can't be controlled the price /exchange rate/room value does not equate from a North American perspective. That being said the room was what we expected from Rome and more and we throughly enjoyed our stay. We would recommond.

Very friendly and helpful personal. Room was nice, bath was good but shower head should be repaired. Location is perfect, only 300m to san pietro plaza. Price for room and breakfast is a bit high, but for Rom ok. Breakfast was in nearby coffee bar, was for price of room not good (coffe + toast), could be better. Overall for Rom a good place.

Excellent property right next to StPeter`s Square. The apartments were well decorated with an arts theme and the bathrooms had been recently refurbished. Plenty of local restaurants nearby and a taxi rank right opposite. Only downside was the steps up to the 4th floor but so long as you are fit you were rewarded with a great view of St Peter`s dome on each landing. Payment by cash only.

Nice B&B in a convenient area very close to the Vatican. Room was nicely decorated and was clean & comfortable. Clean bathroom just down the hall. Street has a lot of scooter traffic that awoke me a coupe times. No elevator and the B&B is on the 5th floor. Nice exercise to get up there with luggage. The breakfast was nice, although it's provided at a little cafe up the street. I would stay there again and I do recommend this B&B.

What more can I say besides the place is incredible, the location is incredible, and getting to the Alle Fornaci is incredibly easy. As you walk up the stairs to the rooms at each window you get a great view of the dome above St. Peter's, if that doesn't impress you then you shouldn't even be in Rome. The staff was great and the complimentary cappuccino's and brioche at Max Cafe each morning were fantastic. Getting back to Roma Termini station was as easy as walking 20 meters down the street and getting on the number 64 bus for 2 euro's. The Alle Fornaci was a wonderful place.

fantastic appartment, brilliant security, uou had to get through three doors , it was within 5 minits walk from the vatican , our room had a fantastic air con and shower with toilet. there was a taxi rank outside (about 5 euros to center) , but we walked most days . out of the appartment door and there wee a number of restraunts to eat , no lift but the price was very reasonable compared to people we talked to had paid double what we paid in other appartments there was an employee called BONE there to meet us and cleaned our room daily , I would offten leave all my money in the room ( you cant do that in some hotels these days!!!! )If I go back to rome this is where I will stay No lift, but that was part of the fun ther was an elderly laidy living there who woudl do the stairs daily so if she could do them so could we . you can get a bus from the airport for 6 euros but we tok a taxi for 30 euros (they will try it on for 75 but wait for the rush to die down and you will get on for 30

No lift. By European standards four flights might be an accurate discription of the number of stairs, but was more than seven flights by US standards. Young man employeed is very competent. He handled luggage and prepared a very nice breakfast. Probably not recommended for people unable to climb a number of stairs. Nice view of the Vatican Dome.

We stayed in a double room with its own bathroom. The room was extremely spacious, decorated nicely and very clean and cozy. The service was outstanding. Breakfast is room service in your room and is very generous and a very large selection. There was a some street noise in our room because it faced via Delle Fornaci but not too bad. Note: it is necessary to walk a few flights of stairs to get to the rooms. This property is 5 minutes walk to the vatican (see picture from St. Peter's dome), 3 minutes walk to bus stops, and about 1/2 mile walk to Ottaviano metro A station. These, plus a short walk allows you to go anywhere in Rome. We will stay here again.

Great location, truly a few steps from the Vatican. Room clean and spacious, friendly and helpful staff. You must climb a staircase to get there (it is a historical building without lift), but the view of the dome is gorgeous and, at the same time, it is a good exercise... I stayed here also last year and have appreciated this time the new breakfast style: a real good capuccino and corneto at a coffee shop nearby at the moment you like: very good idea! Other changes with respect to last year are the free coffee and tea facilities and the free internet wireless connection. Overall, to be highly recommended.

This B&B suited our needs perfectly - we're in our late 50's, in good shape & love to walk, so the many stairs and non-central location were no problem. We don't need a lot of hotel services so the lack of full time staff & extras were also no problem. We saved a ton of money compared to the ourtrageously overpriced Rome hotels and spent the savings on more enjoyable/important things like tours and good restaurants. Being in a residential neighborhood and very close to the Vatican was enjoyable. We walked everywhere - Castel St. Angelo, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona, and even the Spanish Steps. We thought the breakfast was excellent (nice job Anthony!) and it even included freshly cooked eggs. The room was clean, comfortable, good size, fairly modern, & had an ensuite bathroom (some had private bath, but across the hall). The only flaw we could find was the shower needed some maintenance - the shower head leaked and lacked pressure - but not a major problem. If you're not in reasonably good shape, need lots of pampering and rely on hotel staff for much of your travel/tour information, this place probably isn't for you. Otherwise, it's a wonderful place. We highly recommend it. We will stay here again on future trips to Rome.

This was a great location near the Vatican. Arranged for prompt pick up at FCO airport. Breakfast was prompt and plentiful, choosing the night before what you wanted. It's fantastic, when yu want to see the Vatican. You can be the first in the long queue :-) Or for running and walking. There is a long and bautiful walk path at the river. The room where we stayed was big and clean and I could sleep very good in the bed. So I suppose it must be a good matress :-) Don't expect too much from the breakfast. it's not a typical yumie italien breakfast, but it serves its purpose. We had a great time and people who are working there are very customer orientated. We asked for a tea they didn't have it so he went to a supermarket to buy it for us. That's fantastic.

We had some difficulty recognizing the place because it has no sign. You need to ring a doorbell which is all but hidden from view. Also, we did not expect to have to carry suitcases up 4 long flights of stairs, but once there the space was very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is great for visiting St. Peter's and Vatican City and bus transportation is just up the street. We had lunch at the sidewalk cafe out front, and enjoyed it very much.

You should print your paper work before coming here. The B&B was in a great location. It is half a block from St. Peters Basilica and Vatican City with the Sistine Chapel. It was a 5 min. walk from Castel Sant' Angelo that you can get amazing pictures from atop. It's about a 15 min. walk to Piazza Navona which is really fun, it was my favorite square. The other sites are not that far. We walked the whole time and it was fine. As far as dining try and find places down abandoned streets because the places out in the open are really expensive and not good for your money. We ate at Le Sorelle and it was great. Great food and ambiance.

My wife and I had a great stay at Alle Fornaci a San Pietro this past weekend. Serena sent us an email confirming everything and gave us her cell number for emergencies. Bon was there to greet us when we arrived and provided refreshments after a long flight (thank you, Bon!) We loved the neighborhood with lots of cafes, great food, and friendly staff and residents. We got used to life in Rome very quickly by enjoying lots of walking, and Bon's fitness equipment (walking up and down the stairs!) Dining after 8PM and staying out late enabled us to get some good sleep after the street noise calms down (after midnight, usually.) We will certainly be back to visit again, and thanks to Bon and Serena for such a pleasant stay!!

Klimaanlage vorhanden,Kein Balkon/Terrasse. Betten bequem.Einzel- und Doppelbetten. Zimmer liebevoll eingerichtet m. Stereoanlage und TV. Strassenlärm, hört man aber Nachts wenig. Tagsüber schon. Tip: Restaurant: "La Vittoria" gegenüber von B&B.

This place is fantastic! We have stayed here before, in 2003 and it was just as good now as it was then. Convenient to Vatican City, Trastevere and a walk or short bus ride to other Rome sights or the train station. The rooms are cool - very contemporary with a selection of music/movies (mostly Italian, but some English) and great art/decor. The breakfast was not superb, but was adequate and very typical of Italian breakfast - coffee (specify cappucino or espresso), prepackaged pastries/ toast and some kind of juice drink. We don't mind the stairs, but be forewarned that the apartment is on the 4th or 5th floor and there is no lift/elevator. The view, however is great! You won't be disappointed with a stay here in this fantastic city!

From the moment we were met (by prior arrangement) at the airport to the moment we (reluctantly) left Rome, we were very happy with our choice of accommodation. Even the four flights of marble stairs were a good training for climbing the steps to the top of St Peter's Dome. We would willingly recommend this B&B to anybody travelling to Rome. The place was very clean, and the room really spacious. The B&B has three rooms, one of them with views to S.Peters Basilica, which was really nice. This one was our room. We receive the breakfast in the bedroom each morning, which was not excellent but enough. Each bedroom has its own bath (one room inside and the other two rooms outside). The location of the B&B was really good (3 minutes to S.Peter´s Square). Only one note: the B&B is located in a fourth floor with no lift. Saving this last inconvenient, the price/quality is really good.

The flat is very funky and modern and a great place to stay to visit Rome as everything is within reasonable walking distance. One thing that isn't apparent on the website is that the free parking is actually on the street, if there is a space available! We ended up getting a parking ticket so had to pay that as well as paying to park on a meter during the day. We were a bit disappointed that breakfast is not served in the "room with a view" as suggested, but its brought to your room on a trolley so you don't get to enjoy that spectacular view over a cup of coffee in the morning. All in all though, we would recommend the B+B as it is very clean and well presented.

We stayed three nights at Alle Fornaci. The location was very good for visiting San Peter's square. It's a bit of a longer walk to other sights, however, there are plenty of buses downstairs if you get tired of walking. The breakfast was very basic, dry cereal and functional bread & juice. Don't stay here if your expecting a great breakfast. The rooms are sizeable, clean & comfortable. Key drawbacks, our beds were two seperate single beds, Serena didn't accomodate us when we asked for a double or queen. The bathrooms are not adjoined to the room, however, this was only a minor inconvenience. Internet, we were allowed free access to the internet. This was a nice bonus, we were able to research places to see and send e-mail to friends. Overall, nice artistic flair & decor - A la Miro. A good value for the money. Clean and well maintained, a safe bet.

We stayed three nights at "Alle Fornaci a San Pietro", and we liked it a lot. The owner of this B&B place, Serena Panella, was very helpful and friendly, and provided us with all information we needed. In addition to breakfast, we were provided with refrigerated drinks, tea and coffee. To mention is that this B&B place is located in a huge private apartment on the fourth floor in a nice old building, which requires some energy to climb up the stairs, especially with luggage. But nevertheless the rooms are tastefully furnished, with a lot of originality, so that one can feel relaxed in the whole property.

This is a lovely B&B. The location is great and we have been able to walk to all the main attractions of Rome. The Colliseum was a bit far, but, we love to walk anyway. The room is very comfortable and very clean... we could have eaten on the floor. Breakfast was ok, not very good. But I consider it the only weakness of that place. I would definatly go back if we return to Rome someday!

We enjoyed the warm and hospitable welcome after being picked up from the airport by taxi. A convenient much appreciated service, bookable at owner Serena. Having your own frontdoor key provides freedom as wel as that extra special feeling of belonging and making you feel at home. That is the beauty of the B&B formular! Alle Fornaci is a lovely, helpful, comfortable and convenient place to stay. Allthough the 99 steps to the fourth floor were a wonderful exercise for us, we feel that this might be crucial information for the not so fit, and should be mentioned on the website. Fresh rolls and an electric watercooker would make breakfast even more enjoyable. See you next year Serena, Nan en Nel

We only spent 2 days in Rome and the location of Alle Fornaci a San Pietro was ideal. We were able to walk to see all the main tourist attractions and it was lovely returning to the apartment at night and walking by St. Peter's. What a memorable stay in Rome!

If you like it on photos, then you'll love it in real 100 times more ! Never stayed in the place like that. Great location. I will make sure that my family and friends are staying at Alle Fornaci place, but no where else in Rome. Thank you Serena (owner)!

We were very pleased with our stay. The night we arrived in Rome, we arranged through the B&B owner to have someone come to the airport to pick us up. Our flights were all messed up and to top it off, the airline lost our luggage and it took a long time to get that straightened out. The person who was picking us up was not put out at all - even though they (the owner actually came with him) had to wait for us for over an hour. The location is *excellent* - about a 2 minute walk to St. Peter's Basilica. The B&B was located on the 4th floor, and required climbing a ton of steps to get to - so if you are severely out of shape you will be in shape by the time you leave!! :-) The entire apartment was extremely clean. Our room was roomy and had a nice TV, stereo and DVD player as well as a ton of CD's and moves - but it's not of real use unless you are fluent in Italian. Our bathroom was across the hall and was again, meticulously clean. Breakfast was good - except it got old after 4 days. The kitchen has an excellent view of the basilica. The owner of the B&B, Serena was extremely helpful telling us about the bus line and anything else we needed. Her English was good enough to tell us what we needed to know. We would definitely recommend Alle Fornaci a San Pietro. For the price, you can't beat it!

Very nice and individual designed rooms, five minutes walking distance to the vatican, good bus connection to the city, but acceptable walking distance, bancomat just near by the front door (to pay cash). We enjoyed the stay very much.

Very nice looking rooms having excellent audio systems. Friendly and helpful staff. Smoking in public areas was a bit annoying (as we don't smoke). With the same amount of money you may also find a 3 star hotel room, so this might be a little overpriced (but on the other hand the quality was very good). We certainly can recommend the place.

The place is great, very quiet and located a few steps from S. Peter's, with a clever and original architecture. The price is worth it! Serena is a perfect and discreet host.

A totally GREAT experience! The ONLY negative aspect of the accommodations were the 99 steps that you had to climb to get to the room...but it was certainly worth it! The owner was most helpful and the facility was extremely comfortable. This was by far our favorite "overnight" on our Italian adventure!

The location is very good and access to the Railway station via direct bus is also a plus. The map showing the location is not detailed enough, which meant we needed to walk along several wrong streets before we found the right one.
