About Bed and Breakfast Al Pantheon con Thomas Mann

b&b - exterior Bed and Breakfast Al Pantheon con Thomas Mann b&b - exterior The Bed&Breakfast Al Pantheon con Thomas Mann enjoys an enviable position in the historic centre of Rome, in via del Pantheon, a few metres from the Pantheon, the most beautiful Roman vestige, converted into a splendid church in the 7th century.

Splendid churches, aristocratic buildings and famous squares, each one preserving art masterpieces, as well as prestigious boutiques and restaurants are just around the corner. The most famous monuments such as the Trevi fountain, Piazza Navona or Piazza Venezia can be easily reached in a few minutes' walk.

The B&B is located on the second floor of an ancient building, which origins date back to the 16th century. The building, without lift, hosted Thomas Mann, the well known German writer. The Bed&Breakfast Al Pantheon is therefore an ideal choice for a holiday in Rome, made of elegance and great charm.

Note: renovation works are being carried out to install a lift inside the property.

This is a B&B type of accommodation. When we arrived, the host was really nice and explained all the rules to us. The price we paid included breakfast which was toasts, croissants, coffee, juice, etc. This hotel right in front of the Pantheon. This is probably one of the best spots to stay in Rome. Although the host was really sweet, the room wasn't so great. The room was a high ceiling room cut in half. The room was so dark. The beds might have been dirty because after the first night I got a few insect bites (bed bugs?). Anyway the worst of all was the bathroom. Dirty, small. If you are taller than 5'8" or overweight, good luck fitting in the shower stall. All we wanted to do was to wake up early, get up and come back as late as possibly could. In summary, 20 out of 10 for location. 2 out of 10 for accommodation.

We are a family of three and just got back from our short vacation in Rome, the eternal city. We were very lucky to have our accomodation in Al Patheon con Thomasmann, a bed and breakfast. Its really amazing because its located at the city center. Its very comfortable to visit every monuments that we wanted to see just by walking.Although the structure is old, the rooms are very clean and the breakfast though Italian style, but you can eat as much as you can, not worrying for the next meal because you have so much. They are also very accomodating and give us some point of information that we needed being a first timer in Rome. I can highly recommend this B&B for those who needs inexpensive accomodation located at the center as well.

we had no air conditioned in our room, we booked for two rooms one single and one double and we were in a familial suite , we had to sleep with the door open between the two rooms and we were not from the same family, the single room had no TV, and nothing was done during the four nights of our stay The taxi driver at the arrival was very kind and helpful becaues one of the luggage did not arrive with our flight.

We were without hot water for one night, but other than that the room was fine. It was very simple, but fine. I'm not sure how I would have checked in had they not picked us up at the airport, since there is no "front desk," but it worked out fine for us. The location was perfect - I love the Pantheon!

Breakfast was appalling - lukewarm coffee, chocolate croissants (yeuch!) and toast and jam. No cheese or cold meat, or cereals. The rooms have no external windows which makes them somewhat depressing. The electric power supply does not feature standard European Sockets. The TV only features Italian channels. There is a lift but no key is supplied to guests with which to operate it. So you have to climb 4 flights of stairs. The hotel's saving grace is its location.

The ratings are so poor because we were never told we had to pay in cash or face a 5% surcharge. The host at this B&B is elusive and unreliable. Our card was debited without our consent after we had said we would obtain the unexpected cash. He left two other booked and confirmed guests standing in the street for 2 hours and they would be there still if we had not rescued them. Service is non-existent and security poor. It's central, quiet and certainly quaint but this does not mean it has to be so cavalier about money, unreliable and insecure.

Having read previous reviews my expectations were not high. We found that the lift still wasn't installed and the entrance lobby still looked like a building site. However, we understood that the lobby area and lift installation are not the direct concern of the Hotel, but are works being undertaken by the landlords. In fact the lobby area is not really part of the hotel at all. Allowing for this, we thought that the rooms were clean but dark, small but roomy enough for a couple of nights with sufficient storage. There were broken tiles on the bathroom floor which we had to report but otherwise the bathroom was adequate. The breakfast was adequate and only what you would expect. The great thing about this hotel is the price and the fantastic location. We would probably return .

We stayed in rome for 4 days. Although Maira was really kind, the quality of the b&b wasn't as good as we read in this pages. The bed of the room wasn't the one we saw in the photo, but 2 matreses together, both very used and deformed. This thing made impossible the contact with my partner while sleeping...it seemed we had 2 single beds -or holes-. The breakfast was very very poor also. We think that the price we paid was excellent for its location, but that doesnt mean that they service has to be so poor, cause in the end, we paid almost 100 euros per night. oh! we also left our luggage there. Last day we should meet up with the man of the b&b so he could open us the door and return our things to go to the airport...he arrived 20 minutes late, knowing we had to take the train to the airport.

Stayed at the Thomas Mann on March 16, 2008 for 3 nights. The location is great, walking distance to everything(I really mean everything!!!). The Thomas Mann is under construction in the main areas, but didn't bother us much. They start working about 8am. Great Gelato store around the corner I believe it is called Gelatora (spelling?). Had a great time in Rome. I have pictures of the Thomas Mann if anyone is interested. The only bad thing was the spiral steps going up to the loft, hard to get luggage upstairs. We left ours downstairs.

1)no hairdryer 2)no water pressure in shower - water either freezing cold or scalding hot 3)sheets and bath sheets smelled like vinegar 4)no heater control - room smelled like steam room. Very wet, moldy, musty and hot. window above door opened to workers on scalfolding-unable to leave open to help control heat/smell. 5)construction was expected & stairs ok. If these were only problems then the location is very good at a cheap price but NOT worth your health. pay more & stay somewhere else.

The only problem was that the beds had a bit of a dip. That being said, the staff was always very helpful. I was emailed right after the reservation and a change of details was no problem for them. The shuttle service was also perfect (grazie Luigi). The B&B is 50 meters from the Pantheon which is a perfect location to explore Rome. For the price we paid, we couldn't have expected a better stay!

Well what can I say, I had a fantastic stay in Rome. The city is AMAZING!!! Our stay at the B&B was fantastic, the room was spacious and clean with a lovely sleeping area. We had a bit of a shock when we first entered through the main gate, as there is building work going on but this did not affect our room or our stay. I would deffinatly stay here again. The people who run the B&B were friendly and helpfull and the location is the best in Rome.

no warning was given about building works, we were living in a building site! exposed wires, scaffolding etc. There is even a port a loo!!We had to wait an hour at the door to be let in despite phoning from the airport and from the taxi and we arranged a time to collect our bags - nobody arrived, we had to phone them! breakfast was disgusting. Excellent location and we only used the room for sleeping - no room for anything else! Room not cleaned despite a 4 night stay, not even new toilet roll - we ran out! Despite this if you're looking for somewhere central just for sleeping its ideal!

We stayed in Al Pantheon on Oct. 13-16, 2007. a family of four with a 6 yr. old kid. This is a basic, reasonably priced accommodation in a fantastic location in Rome. The obviously very old historic building is currently under renovation. After climbing a flight of stairs one arrives at a pretty dark laberynthical corridor off which you find differently sized rooms. Some are on other floors. Ours turned out to be a 2 level room, with a table, 4 chairs and bathroom in the 1 level and up a cordscrew staircase, the bedroom, pretty large, with 2 adequate double beds. The high ceiling was dark coffered wood. My only gripe is that it was pretty dark, its only natural light coming from a window to the buildings air shaft. However, we did not spend hardly anytime in the room, and in spite of being right smack in the hustle bustle of Rome, it was very quiet, no street noise could be heard, perfect for sleep after a long day of sightseeing. Breakfast was sparse, coffee and toast, but we did not expect much. We used the B+Bs transfer services, very good and well priced. Luiggi, our driver, a true Roman, drove a bit fast for my parents' taste, but was extremely nice and serviceable, as well as the rest of the staff. I hope prices don't go up after the renovation is completed. The feeling of exiting your hotel and seeing the imposing facade of the Pantheon in front of you... amazing. Would recommend the Al Pantheon to anyone.

The good thing about this place is the location. As another reviewer pointed out though, the place is under major renovation/construction. (I should have read that review more closely.) Anyway, the room was fine, once we got up to it. There are some stairs that you have to climb up, which is no big deal if you are in good health. The location is phenomenal- you walk out the front door of the building and you are standing almost in front of the Pantheon. Keep in mind, you HAVE to do exactly as the emails from the manager tell you, or you end up standing around in a construction site for an hour feeling confused like we did. Call them as soon as you arrive at the airport so they know to meet you there. I wrongly assumed that there was some kind of front desk there. There is not. The lady running the place was nice although a little unhappy with me for going straight there rather than calling first. The price is right and like I said, the location is amazing, especially for those jet-lagged, sleepless middle of the night walks around the amazing Pantheon!

The apartments were under renovation, we arrived to be told our booking was not accurate and on seeing the room were aware that our luggage nd ourselves were not going to fit especially getting up and downthe tiny spiral staircase. There is no elevator (currently being constructed, we were on the 4th floor, hard work with heavy bags. No access to kitch facilities during the day or evening. Breakfast was provided b/w 8 - 10 which was great. Location is fabulous right near the Pantheon, but the facilities at this time left a bit to be desired. There was even a truck parked in the foyer. Very cramped, no windows and hot water ran out.

Hotel was fine. If not a seasoned traveller or fret about the small stuff, likely not for you. There is construction going on and the 'lobby' had a small truck parked in it due to this along with scaffolding. The room itself was big, clean and more than sufficient. Were a little concerned in the beginning as we had not received email confirmation of receipt of our arrival instructions as requested from the host, and upon arrival they tried to charge us for a transfer they had gone to the airport to provide and we had taken the train ourselves (as not rec'd word from the hosts) all was resolved and we were not charged - but you need to be firm.

Location, Location, Location!! Right when you walk out the door you are in front of The Pantheon. I would rate the location a 10. There are only 4 rooms, which are all nice and big. The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom was clean. The negatives: They don't clean your room and we never got fresh clean towels the whole time we stayed. We ran out of toilet paper and had to go buy our own. There was no phone in the room and you really didn't have a way to contact any staff. There are really no windows in the room, but there was A/C. They also don't mention that the building the B&B is in is being remodeled, so a lot construction is going on, which isn't the best wake up call.

Horrible stay. The picture shows the restaurant next door, the dingy door next to it is actually the door to this B&B. The inside entryway and inside construction made me (single woman) feel very unsafe during my entire stay. I was given a room at the top of some very narrow, steep wood stairs with basically no landing--just my door. The only window was at floor level, and the lighting was awful. Not enought light in the room to read. Bathroom was dirty and the shower door was broken and falling out of its frame. I requested another room but was told they were booked. Person who met me spoke no English, therefore, no communication. Breakfast was marginal. I would not recommend this B&B.

The building is still being worked on. The room was strangely located in the back up a steep set of stairs. However, it was quiet. The major problems were hot water and the tiny tiny shower closet. This is a basic room, not even a chair but sufficient storage in closet and chest of drawers. The employees were GREAT!!!! The location is absolutely the best if you want to be at the Pantheon. Since I am familiar with the area, getting there and finding my way around was not a problem. But, I think if it is a first time in Rome or in the Pantheon area, you will need to get oriented. I did not try the breakfast for the three mornings I was there. I went to the Tazza d'Oro around the corner for coffee instead. (Double expresso con panna, fantastic.) The area is very very crowded and close to many restaurants, shopping on via del corso or the neighboring streets is convenient. Lago Argentina and Piazza Venezia are very close. In the other direction, Castel S. Angelo is not so far. Grab a tram to Trastevere from Lago Argentina.

Dont be decieved by the photos! the picture of the exterior shown on the wesite is infact a restaurant next door! they spoke very little english and it was very difficult to communicate. And what they didn't mention was that the whole building was being rennovated so everything was broken down and had heaps of construction material in the courtyard. it was very noisy during the day! Dont trust the car service they offer!! I asked the car to come early in the morning to take me to the airport but it never showed up! luckily i found a taxi at six in the morning, and it turned out to be cheaper than their car rates. breakfast was terrible! only good thing is that it is right infront of the pantheon, the bed and AC are good! Lastly, it is on the thrid floor with no elevator or help from the staff.

The taxi driver meeting us, arranged through Thomas Mann, was late, ignorant and unhelpful. No offer to help with cases at all. And at least 10 euros more than could be obtained with any other taxi. The lady at Thomas Mann was helpful and courteous. This is a no service "hotel" with no making of beds, tidying up etc and as such is very expensive. I suspect that they are merely taking advantage of their location and thus do not try too hard. In addition, there was EXTENSIVE building work in progress making the area awkward to walk around. I sprained my ankle within 15 minutes of arriving. This looks to be a long term project. Due to air conditioning problems we did change rooms twice and the staff - of one - was very helpful but with limited resources.

The building access was under construction and we were not informed of this prior. The day we arrived the entrance looked like a garbage dump. Had to manouver through scaffolding to get to our room. 3 other couples arrived at the same time and we all felt the same way. Breakfast was extremely basic and coffee was not even up to basic standard. It was better to spend 3 EURO around the corner for a decent cup of coffee and brioche which we did after the disasterous breakfast on the first day. Before we got breakfast the first day we were constantly reminded we had to settle our bill for our full stay. This was again not advertised to us prior to getting there. Overall it was the black mark of what was otherwise a fantastic trip to Italy and this was the worst B&B we have ever stayed at. The location was the ONLY thing going for this place.

Although we didn't stay at the allocated b&b we did stay at a fantastic 1 very close to Campo di fiori. The rooms are clean and have everything to offer for a weekend break. The room was in a great location and within walking distance to all the main attractions. Just to forewarn you that the credit/debit card machine was not available for transaction so make sure you take plenty of euros to cover the cost of the room. Overall a fantastic accommodation and would recomend it to anyone. Would definitely stay here again.

Ok so no great view of the Pantheon from the hotel until you walk out of the front door, but it is right on the doorstep. There are taxis and entertainment aplenty. The B&B itself provided all the basic needs for staying in the heart of Rome, a bed and somewhere to wash before hitting the town. There were a few un intrusive building works going on but should go to improve the aspects of the building at a later date.

This is a place that I would very highly recommend to stay when visiting Rome. Rome was the 4th and last city that we visited and we had the most gracious hosts. We stayed in a very specious, sunny duplex apartment, located only steps away from The Pantheon. At night you can enjoy a bottle of wine right there at the Pantheom piazza where the atmosphere is very casual and fun. I wish I was there now. :) You will have a great time!

Location is hard to beat, walk out the front door and your looking at the Pantheon and most of the other major attractions are within walking distance. There are tons of shops and places to eat right outside the door. The room is very basic and not very pleasant to spend much time in. If you like to hang out in your hotel room then this isn't the place for you. Skip breakfast and just go to Tazza D'Orro just around the corner and get a coffee and pasty. I would consider staying here again if I had a tight budget but I think I would have a hard time getting my wife to go for it.

Fantastic location and very good indeed for the price, only 70 euros per night for a double room w/ bathroom (Feb. 2007). No windows to the street, but that is good, since it means less noise. Clean and spacious, good breakfast. Don't be scared by the not very pretty staircase leading up to the B&B, inside it is clean and pleasant. Payment up front, that's ok, it means they don't take your passport. They give you your own keys to doors, so you can come back late at your own leisure. Again: unbeatable location, front gate opening up to a view on the Pantheon.

Our first bedroom had no windows what was not indicated on the internet site. Therefore, we asked for another bedroom with windows but that one was very small ... There was not a great choice for the breakfast and my coffee was cold on the first day, therefore we decided to have our breakfast in Italian bars during the following days. Besides, the personal was not available during the whole day ... For my next travel in Rome, I will choose a 3 stars hotel even if the location is far from the city center ...

The room was very clean and newly reconstructed. The price was adequate regarding the location. Only there were no windows at the room. And the owners of the B&B contacted me by e-mail several times and offered me another locations (because of reconstruction of Al Pantheon, etc.). I always accepted but then they did it again. In turn I should have stay at 3 different places. At the end I stayed at Al Pantheon but even when I arrived to Roma I thought that I would stay in different place. I was told the fact, that we were going to be in Al Pantheon again, by phone while calling them from Roma. I would also appreciate access to the kitchen during the day (to take a glass for example). Anyway I would recommend this place.

The best of this B&B was the location. it was really great. and the breakfast lady ?Maira? was also very polite and givs information if you want and also what also positive was it seemed to be really safe. but what i did`t like was the mattress, it was really hard and we always woke up with a bad back. another point was the shower wasn`t that great, but you can handle it. and the last negative point was that there were many noises, which are disturbing while sleeping (every night: broken bottles of the restaurant downstairs) but in conclusion it was a very nice stay. i would go to this B&B again

I loved how the Pantheon was the first thing you saw when you left the B&B. It was such a great view! And the location was central to everything...my boyfriend and I were able to get everywhere on foot. Our bathroom door jammed on me and I freaked out, but we managed to get around it during our stay. Overall, we had a great time.

In this structure ask for the rooms on the first floor, witch are actualy the ones from the pictures used on venere. We got room on 2nd floor without window and very noisy,no hair dryer, and two beds insted of one double bed as i reserved. There was avalible room with one double bed actualy, but the owner has his prefered clients which he gives preferences.Walls very tiny, you hear everything. Can get something better for this price.. Good thing about this place is that is clean and in the center with excelent position.

Excellent. I would also like to thank Estella. We changed our dates of stay and she did everything possible for us. Location, cleanliness and staff were all very good. I intend on going to Rome again and would definately stay here again. Will definately be recommending this hotel to friends.

the location was great, and the price is exactly as it was written here, when everything else was expensive as you expect from the city of rome. the room is with no windowns at all,but you have air conditioner. beds- terrible.we got up every morning with a terrible back pains, but you get used to it.. breakfast-very nice:they offer you toasts, jems, butter, corasons.you cannot serve yourself, only the breakfast lady can serve you coffe/tea/water or some other drink.you cannot use their great kitchen.

Location was good, but no lift. For a room to sleep in, it was OK. Tiny.
