I had been to Rio several times in the past but not for 20 years. I had never visited St. Teresa, Rio, before. Um Mela Tres is a lovely bed and breakfast in an interesting site located at the end of the Rain Forest. The views are breathtaking. The couple who run it are British, interesting and extremely personable. They made us feel very much at home. It was a pleasure to stay there. I will recommend it to anyone who would be visiting Rio.

We were very pleased with the peacefulness and location of Um Meia Tres. After touring Rio for the day, it was very refreshing to arrive at Um Meia Tres and be warmly welcomed by Bill and Sue. We especially enjoyed staying at a B&B away from the beaches and big hotels where we could get some sense of culture, architecture and history. We were delighted with our choice of accommodation while in Rio!

We got the best welcoming from Bill. The rooms and area was good and clean, as expected. The best was the personal service from Bill and Sue.

If you want to stay in a comfortable nice clean friendly small hotel - this is it. We stayed in other grander, larger places around Brazil, and Rio, and wish we could have stayed at Um Meia Tres for longer(but they were booked up) the kindness and personal attention of the owners was fantastic, breakfasts were excellent, beds comfortable, a very happy stay. Stairs may be difficult for older people.

Very friendly owners and a nice, good value hotel. Santa Theresa is an interesting 'arty' area, with good bars and restaurants and a 10 minute trip to the centre on the old trams. Recommended.

Bill and Sue were so hospitable. Thay helped with information on daytrips, directions, restaurants, maps. Breakfast had a wide variety of options. There is also a tour guide that you can contact through them. Dolores is an enthusiastic and fun person.

Idyllic spot in Rio and a great place to stay never having been to Rio before. Bill, Sue and Tom are the perfect hosts and made Um Meia Tres a home away from home. We got the most out of our trip in Rio thanks to the help, advice and tips they gave us. Just ask and their recommendations are honest and will save you loads of time and effort searching on your own. Breakfast was delicious and available all morning so we could get up when we pleased. Bill and Sue deserve all the fantastic reviews about their place and I would recommend it to anyone coming to Rio - particularly those who like us haven't been before. Just one downside - depending upon wind then the hotel is under a flight path which can make it noisy early mornings!

Um Meia Tres was just exceptional value. We had such a wonderful stay. Bill and Sue are exceptional hosts, really helpful, welcomed us to join them in anything they were doing in Rio that would interest us, real homely feel to the place. You could even help yourself to the bar! It made our stay in RIo wonderful

This is a great place to stay if you don't need to be on the beach and the big, impersonal hotels. The beaches are about 20 minutes away by taxi. There are plenty of restaurants in this quiet, safe, artsy area. Bill(owner) is a great guy and will help you with tours and information about his city. The bar is open 24,7 and you can make your own drinks if he's away. His helpers serve up a hearty breakfast every morning. But the best part is the view of Rio from your window, especially at night.

I spent a very enjoyable 5 nights here relaxing and even feeding monkeys at breakfast time. My room was extremely spacious with a big comfy bed and a sofa. Bill and Sue could not have been more approachable and helpful and their breakfasts were wonderful. Although in a residential area, you can walk down to local shops in 10 minutes and to the tram and taxis in less than 5 so you are not far from anywhere. It is however set on quite a steep hill so a taxi back is always recommended. As well as using the local transport I booked a full day out with Dolores on her buggy tour and saw most of the major sites. I also went up Sugar Loaf (or should I say halfway as it was closed at the top) with Sue and another guest on another day. If you don't fancy venturing down the road or into town in the evening, there is a great little restaurant across the road with a great view. All in all, if you don't wanyt to be in the middle of the action all of the time, this is a great place to stay.

Bill and Sue were not only helpful as many of the other reviews mention, but they were like having family\friends there giving advice, allowing for our late stay and early arival, making the most delicious pineapple mint drink i have ever had in my life!!!! I wish I had more days in Rio just to spend more time at Um Meia Tres! they were an 11 out of 10 on all fronts. Cleanliness; bed comfort; bathrooms; view; kindness; fresh food; everything!!!

We were travelling in Brazil for three weeks and our stay in Rio de Janeiro at Um Meia Tres was the highlight of our trip. Bill & Sue were so helpful and made us feel right at home. They provided excellent information on the places we should visit and which tour guides were best to use. After busy days exploring Rio it was always such a pleasure going back to our haven in Santa Teresa. The views of Rio from our room were breathtaking! Bill also makes a great capirinha!
