Bed and Breakfast Antica Locanda - Pienza

We enjoyed many things about this B&B. However, there is a steep climb to the rooms up two long staircases. The heat did not operate, although it was only 60 F at night. (In fairness, we could have asked for help, but did not -- so it likely works well if you know how to set the heat.) And, most importantly, there was a horrible humming noise of machinery all night. On the positive side, the location is absolutely central in beautiful Pienza. The landlady was friendly and very accommodating. The antique furniture was beautiful, and there were gracious beamed ceilings with appropriate decor. Room and spacious bath were very clean. The 500+ year old building gave a real feel for the old town. We were upgraded from a room to a mini apartment with a separate full kitchen, with new and modern appliances. Aside that machine humming, we liked it a lot. We were on the Corso side; and the opposite side has great views of the legendary Tuscan landscapes. These rooms pay more for the view. Due to the upgrade, we got good value.

Posizione ottima. Colazione piuttosto scarsa: merendine confezionate, biscotti in piccole confezioni, caffè fai da te con moka.

I agree with other reviewers - there are many rooms shown on this website, but none of them is the one you`ll get for the price agreed on Venere.com . I don`t think it`s a big deal to post pictures of all your options - not just the "nice ones" . "Free parking" means parking on one of the town`s free parking lots - if you find a spot. "Breakfast" means cofee and croissant, everything else is extra (30 EUR/person for kitchen usage!) Overall, Pienza is beautiful town worth visitng and if you don`t necessarily need a luxury, clean and cozy Antica Locanda located right in the middle of the town will certainly do the job.

This facility offers some very nice rooms and Venere site makes you believe you will have one of those.In fact Venere's only agreement is for the smallest, darkiest, low ceiling room in the attic. Very deceptive. Of all the rooms I reserved on Venere, this is the only one that did not offer a buffet breakfast and the coffee-croissant was only available at a café/bar nearby. But location is great in middle of old town. Parking is little less convenient. Mattress and pillows quality is poor.

My only complaint would be that there was no real breakfast provided. In the rooms was a small coffee machine and two packaged rolls - which we didn't touch. There are attractive cafes in the area which make a wonderful alternative. But why even claim that breakfast is offered. Otherwise the room was charming and other rooms in the house have spectacular views of the countryside. An address to be recommended to all visiters who have no problem with the steep stairway.

Beautiful apartment. Owner did not specify that there was an extra 30E per day charge for using kitchen....she was persuaded to revoke that. Owner also did not specify that the third guest would have a bed in the kitchen. Otherwise, lovely town and very comfortable apt.

Location and welcoming were really good. The only problem was that the room we were in (called "La Soffitta") was under the roof and so had a VERY low ceiling (you could not even STAND!). If you suffer from claustrophobia..don't choose this room! As far as breakfast is concerned, if you stay in this room you don't have breakfast in the hotel, but you receive a voucher and have a coffee and a croissant at a bar nearby. I think Venere.com should have provided us with this piece of information...

Fantastic room and location excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. The downsides room had noisey plumbing and the breakfast was a croissant and coffee only

It was very hot day. The airconditions was very noisy, so that we could not sleep well. Otherwise we could be satisfied. I would return to this property, if not summer.

Parfait. L'endroit le plus parfait qu'on aie jamais vu. Le Val d'Orcia est un trésor de la nature, Pienza est un bijou, et l'Antica Locanda est comme dans un rêve. Difficile de partir de cet endroit. Tous nos remerciements à Barbara qui fait son travail avec passion. Just perfect.Undoubtedly the best place we've ever been: Val d'Orcia is a natural treasure, Pienza is a jewel and the antica locanda is just like a dream. It's a pity we had to leave that place. The "hotel" is run by Barbara who is a gracious host. The room is adequate and the service excellent. Unfortunately, we had a room that was open to a courtyard below from which very loud music blared starting at 10PM and not ending until after midnight. Impossible to sleep no matter what we did until the music (heavy metal) stopped.

The room is very nice, large & clean. It view to an alley, which in fact is the main street of old Pienza. The owners are also very nice - I received a small gift having notice it is my birthday. There are some 'but' however: - There is no reserved parking (the nearest available place is 200 meters down the hill, and this place might be full - There is no elevator (althogh the owner suggested its help), it is 2 (or 3) floors to carry your suitcases - There is no breakfast, you only get a voucher to coffee & croassion in any near bar (you would expect a breakfast from a B & B)

This facility was generally good, with the exception that we were not given the room I booked, but a smaller one, with a window on the piazza, noisy in the morning. Also, we noticed in a few of the places we stayed in Italy, a smell of sewer in the bathrooms. Not pleasant. As well, most places supply breakfast, but Antica Locanda provides a voucher for a coffee and croissant along the main street, which is not really a sufficient breakfast for tourists out and about all day. Otherwise, we found Antica Locanda very charming, and well maintained.

There are too many stairs to the room on a very narrow hall,(never was mentioned) the cieling in the bed room very low couldn't stand straight ,had to go down by un safety stairs to the bathroom (not acceptable)

Antica Locanda is a cozy little hotel located in the heart of the Siena region. Barbara (the owner) really went the extra mile to be sure I enjoyed my time in Pienza. She was friendly and ALWAYS available to help. And my room - it was large even by American standards; nicely decorated and very clean. I felt 'at home' as soon as I arrived. Bottom line - if you're going to Tuscany, Antica Locanda is the best hotel in the most charming hilltop town in Tuscany. Great place, fantastic location, unbeatable service!!! I can't wait to go back!

Great sightseen

Owners of this property are very friendly and helpful. Sent us to a wonderful local restaurant. Setting and surrouding area very peaceful with great views of the rolling countryside. Room was spotless, tiled bathroom with shower, and breakfast (breads etc) was good. Would certainly return if I visit this area again.

We had a great stay here!! Beautiful old building, perfect rooms and a great view.
