Bed and Breakfast Al Galileo Siciliano - Palermo
Via Giovan Battista Odierna 40 - Palermo
877-662-6988It's located in a quite old residence which has been completely modernized and rearranged for the occasion; it is placed in a typical borough of Downtown Palermo.
The B&B is set in a side street of the old Oreto avenue, a famous street which runs along the city from the entrance of the Highway to get to Catania and Messina (at 2 km) to Pellegrino Mountain going through the city centre (Oreto avenue, Maqueda ave, Quattro Canti, Ruggero Settimo ave, Liberty boulevard, Statue) and near at the principal monument and hospital center (Civico, Policlinico, ISMETT) at 450 metres.
The Structure:
The external façade of the building recalls the typical style of the old insular houses through its colours, materials, shutters, and balconies in marble and wrought iron which in old times decorated the Sicilian houses.
The structure is composed of four floors which can be reached through white marble stairs decorated with a wrought iron banister; ach room it's independent thanks to elegant little halls.
On the ground floor there are two great halls furnished as well as the rooms style where every morning guests have their rich breakfast. This property has provided all content and is solely responsible for its accuracy.
Nice b&b, the best we found in our numerous voyages around Europe. Staff 8 (eight) stars!

Room, breakfast and welcoming all right. Surrounding very poor. However good for its vicinity to the main station.

Very unsatisfactory stay due to mildewy shower, view to the wall of next house, far from center, location in immigrants neigborhood, all you dread on the travel in one package. good breakfast (for Italy only, otherwise quite normal) and competent receptionists did not make up for that.

This B&B is an oasis in the midst of Palermo. Staff were very qualified and helpful. Breakfast was of the typical Sicilian variety and good. If I ever go back to Palermo I would consider returning to this B&B.

A really good hotel. The only drawback was the lack of public transport at night,10-15 mins.walk to bus station.Probably the best breakfast we've had in Sicily.

We are a bit late on check-in due to delay in train, but they are nice enough to wait for us a bit longer. Some of the staff do not speak much English but they are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is nice. The room we stayed in is a bit run-down but still function well generally. The only thing that does not function properly is the shower stall doors - cannot close it completely - couldn't help wetting the floor... No lift, but the staff who checked us in helps us with the luggage. It is a bit further than I thought - probably because we arrived in the middle of the day (very hot) and with heavy luggage. About 10-minute walk from train station. There is a supermarket around the corner so convenient to get supplies if needed. Most tourist sights are on the opposite end of the town so a bit far away to walk back to the B&B after sightseeing (it is walkable since it is all flat well-paved streets but it could be up to 30 minutes).

Great - like a 3 star - hotel! Nice, new, clean and very spacious room - in fact, our best room in Sicily. Very kind and helpful, great English speaking staff. We received a great map with some explanation, which helped us a lot to discover Palermo. Tried 2 of the restaurants in Palermo which were proposed by the hotel, both of them were great, too. My best breakfast in Sicily was here, too...!!!So the B&B itself was more than perfect!!! The only thing that was not that good was the location: The area looks a bit scary, but we had no problem finally. It also took us 30 minutes to find a parking place (which was free though which is a good point). This is about 10-15 minutes walk from the central station and the center, so it was not really central but still OK. All in all, the hotel itself is very good. Great value and price ratio.

It's like a 3* hotel! It's very comfortable, it's clean, it's near to the train station and to the city center. You can reach by foot all the things to see in Palermo. The hotel surroundings are sure and quite quiet. We parked the car on the street for free. The breakfast is very good (bread, croissant, coffee, cappuccino, juice, fruit, butter, etc...) . It was a nice stay. The only thing that could be noted, is that it is not a real B&B. You won't have a talk with the host. It is more like an hotel: a good hotel!

What a breath of fresh air for budget travelers. We showed up on our first day wiped out from the overnight train ride, and Giovani offered us breakfast even though we had just arrived, and what a breakfast it was. The food and the service was amazing, the fresh pastries cooked there and tasted great. Best breakfast we have had in a while! The room was nice, everything worked well, and it was quiet. The neighborhood is a bit off the tourist path, and a bit out of the way. If you don't mind walking 10-15 minutes to the train station then this place is great. Otherwise, rent a car for a few days, plus you'll want one to go see the rest of Sicily. I know that some people have critisized the neighborhood as being dangerous, and I think that although there are few people at night and it's a bit dark, I don't think there is any danger in walking around there at night, as long as you take the usual precautions. Love this place, would love to stay again!

Good hotel but this district of Palermo is gloomy. Very good breakfast (for Italy) - fresh froots, juices, milk, muesli, an assortment of yoghurts, some wursts, cheese, tasty pastry... Rooms with a view on the street are not quiet. Staff was helpful but calm.

A decent place, not deserving of all the glowing reviews. In a pretty nasty part of Palermo just behind the train station, about a 10 min walk to get to the nicer center. Very unwelcoming area at night, though we had no problems. Don't park on the street. The staff was friendly and helpful, offering us excellent sight-seeing suggestions for our next destination after we left. The breakfast was also excellent, with a big selection of fresh fruit.

Non lasciatevi influenzare dalla zona circostante (un po' abbandonata a se stessa), il posto è molto bello e tranquillo, potete lasciare anche la vostra auto vicino al B&B senza alcun problema.

All Hotel's staffs were very kind, the man gaves me the city map and told me about the tourist attractions. The room was big and comfortable, fully equipped with bathroom, TV, refrigerator, safety box and air conditioner. Vi ringrazio per tutte cose, mi sono rilassata tanto. Se andro' a Palermo, vorrei stare qui ancora.

I guess no choose better this area, for novice traveller at Parelmo. Go to the Via Roma area or Corso vitt emanuele area! Because, dirty on the street between Station/ this B&B. Faces the street Via Oreto is some trash boxs burned! This area had garbage problem recently. But very kind neighboring people. Also don't warry, Parelmo is very clean city except for this area. Few Bar and Retaurant, a dark street at night. But, Supermarket is near.(This B&B is no kitcen. Small fridge is attached Rooms ) Excellent staff.(Few staff speaks english) Excellent breakfast!!

We were delighted with everything about our stay!We were warmly welcomed and time was taken to help us with our planning of places we were going to.Best breakfast we had in Italy! This establishment is easily 4 star quality.Be careful about directions, take a print out with you of road names,as it might not be so easy to find if it is your first time in Palermo,or when it is dark.A lift/elevator, is the only thing missing at the moment.

Oh what a nice surprise!!although my second time in Palermo I enjoyed this b&b much more the the one I had last time which was given 5.4 by venere .This goes to show you the grades should be considered seriuosly!!The girl who welcomed me was so nice! she saw that I was tired and offered me coffee water juice-you name it! its more like a small hotel in perfect condition.THE BREAKFAST WAS GREAT!The only problem that can be corrected is a better explanation of the way from the station.Once you know it its really near and easy to find.It would have been nice if the municipality of Palermo bothered to mark this street properly.but till them the hotel should put in the venere map a map with landmarks where to turn I think its the second street to the left.

The hotel personal was extremely nice and helpful. They offered us transfer to and from the airport(though the train is ok), and gave us lots of info about the city. Breakfast is great! Warning:the street where the b&b is located is not very nice, but , don´t worry, it is safe!

We arrived late at night and thought the B&B would be easy to find, but the main street (Via Oreta) isn't signposted very well, so we walked around for what seemed like forever trying to find it! Our fault for not printing out the map provided by the B&B! Anyway, we did finally find Via GB Odierna (the side street off Via Oreta), but the B&B was also hard to locate - everything looks quite different, even slightly intimidating, at night. However, once inside, Al Galileo Siciliano has a beautiful, clean interior with polite, professional staff. Their English isn't very good (they say they're multi-lingual), but they tried nonetheless and so did we with our terrible Italian. Our air-conditioned room (with en-suite) was very well-kept: quiet, clean, nicely decorated - simple, how we like it - and was a real haven in a hot, noisy and chaotic city. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend the experience of Palermo and the B&B to anyone, but if you aren't so "streetwise", we would advise you spend a bit more and take advantage of the B&B's taxi service from the airport if you are arriving late at night or have heavy bags (the walk is only about 15-20 minutes), as some older people or those with disabilities may find the location a little unnerving, especially if you're a woman travelling alone. We really liked the colourful, characterful neighbourhood, especially when our Italian improved over the days! We would recommend this B&B for young couples, backpackers, people with pets and those with some Italian speaking ability.

The staff made every effort possible to help us solve the problems we had when we asked our rented car to be delivered to the hotel. When you're not fluent in italian, solving these problems by phone with people speaking only their own native language can become quite complicated and frustrating. The staff avoided us all this.

It was amazing bed and breakfast i had ever had. Really tidy and clean. Location is not the best but comparing to the price is good enough. Still from GS it could be easily reached any place in Palermo even on foot. I was very satisfied staying there. would recommend it for sure.

Driving in palermo is a scare. breakfast was good, yogurt, fresh fruit, and meat as well as sweets. had to walk up to 3rd floor (ground floor is 0 so you walk up 3 full flights). overall, would book again.

A good place in a not very beautiful area. Anyway I came back on foot in the night and nothing happened so I can say it is generally safe. Close to the station an to Ballarò market the rooms are silent and clean. Good breakfast. The properties are kind and helpful in giving information. Very good the quality vs.price and in general a place to reccomend.

Arriving late in the evenining into Palermo we had some difficulty following the directions from the station and were advised by the locals not to walk into the area of the guest house. Eventually we were accompanied by a local man who "could not let us walk alone in such an area". The location down a side street did not lend confidence but once through the door the welcome and efficiency were great. The room were spacious and clean and the breakfast (including fresh fruit) excellent. The place is great and the walk to it in daylight is a taste of Palermo but at night.....

We really liked this B&B, the rooms were very nicely decorated, spacious and very clean! There were even minifridges in every room! The staff was very nice and the breakfast was great! The only bad thing was its location, it is quite difficult to get there and the neighbourhood is not the nicest in Palermo, but we didn't had any problems, we even left the car parked outside the front door for 2 days. I would definitely recommend this B&B!

Warm welcome, the staff was really helpful with everything we needed during our stay and they provided us with several useful info (touristic attractions, restaurants, museums, buses, etc.). Good breakfast, clean and spacious room. Good location to visit Palermo, very close to railway station. Surroundings not very attractive... but that's Palermo!

This B&B was a lucky choice for us. We just wanted something unpretentious. Situated in a nice little but lively street surrounded with Palermian everyday life, this accomodation gives you the feeling of beeing part of the city. No glitter, but very friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast and a good taste in arranging the rooms made us feel very comfortable.
