The lack of air conditioning was a problem during the August 2011 heatwave.however, I knew this when I made the booking. We very much enjoyed being able to use the well equipped kitchen - we like to visit markets and cook simple meals from local produce. The location is excellent, too.

Lucca is a lovely town and the Da Elisa alle Sette Arti is very well located to explore it. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. However, if you don't have your own bathroom, the shared ones just do not reach a good enough standard. It is also the case that the B & B is very dark and it does get an awful lot of noise from the roads beside it. A nice stay but I am not sure that if I was to visit Lucca again, that I would use the Da Elisa alle Sette Arti a second time.

A great place to stay. Basic rooms but just what we needed. Distance from sights and train station good. If you're walking from train station be warned that there are some stairs - not so good if you're carrying lots of luggage! Didn't use kitchen but it was available to us. The bathrooms were more like a wet room but fine. Quirky/old fashioned decor and furniture which added to the charm. There is a restaurant they are affiliated to. You get a discount and great food. Would definately stay here again.

This B&B was really nice and charming. For the price we couldn't have beat it. It was clean and quiet and a comfortable place to stay for the night. When you are in Lucca, it doesn't really matter where you stay because everything is in walking distance. The kitchen was a little messy, but so great to have a kitchen to use. The washrooms weren't impeccable, but you have to remember the price point. We were more than happy with our stay here, and would recommend it.

It is very cheap, but there are some drawbacks. First of all, I have sent e-mail to tell the host our arriving information, but he didn't show up, and it made us can not go to Pisa on time, and we are charge 30 euros by ticket inspectors. The host only gave us total 10 euros as compensaton. Second, it is not very clean. The bathtub was jammed. Beside, the host didn't clear your room. The breakfast are not included in the price and it is very expensive. I suggest you buy it outside or cook it by yourself. There are still several advantages such as free Wi-Fi and kitchen. Besides, the surrounding is very quiet.

Town House Suite Da Elisa alle Sette Arti was rather worn down and could be much more attractive if few money were spend on upgrading rooms, bathrooms and kitchen. Replacing of broken bedlamps, old kitchensink, broken (wood?!)toiletseats etc. But the idea with the guestkitchen was great and overall we enjoyed our stay in Elisa.

I had a room with shared bathroom. These are very tidy with rather dated decor. The bathrooms are dated, but function well. Staff at Da Elisa alle Sette Arti are very helpful and friendly, full of good advice for places close to eat - although everything in Lucca is close. I will definitely choose to stay here again on my return trip to Italy!

Absolutely fantastic find, and very reasonable. there is a restaurant on the walls which is very nice!! The people of Lucca were very friendly although english is not spoken by many!! A phrase book/dictionary is recommended. The Leonardo da Vinci museum is a must and a nice break from all the art. there is so much to see and do in and around Lucca with public transport very cheap. Lucca is a fantastic base for much of Tuscany. Hope to return sometime in the future.

Staff pleasant and helpful when anyone was present. Lack of armchairs in the rooms or any public rooms made for uncomfortable evenings. Small improvements such as hooks on the back of the door, and ideally a washbasin in the room would make a big difference. Well placed for restaurants and the railway station. Economical accomodation for a night or two but no more. The nearby restaurants 'Gli Orti' and 'Il Bel Locale' were excellant. Pat and Walter Gundrey.

Da Elisa is a great low budget hotel within walls of city. Five rooms with three bathrooms down hall and also kitchen. The bathrooms got kinda wet for the second or third user. But for the price and kindness of Andrea, cannot complain. We stayed just one nite on way to Cinque Terre. Would not stay there again, rather stay at more upscale, and pay more. This hotel is great for students, etc, who dont mind common bathrooms, etc.

On first arriving I could not access building and had to wait for someone to come out until I could get in. To be fair they do say telephone first but that is not always possible.

If you want basic, no nonsense accommodation in a convenient within-the-walls location then the Da Elisa is an excellent choice. The room was a little tatty and didn't seem to have had a lick of paint since our last stay in 2002, but we didn't mind, we don't do pristine anyway. And proper towels rather than the tablecloths much derided by Bryson and which we had put up with in our much more expensive stops! Bliss. We're perhaps a bit starry eyed about Da Elisa because we love Lucca so much we'd be happy to sleep on the pavement. But judging by the entries in the Visitor's Book, most people feel like we do.

Gott weiß, was die da machten.

Overall I enjoyed our room. However, since it faced the main street, it was quite noisy at night. Also, the shower head in one of the bathrooms was not fitted tightly so when one member of our group showered, she got water all over the bathroom and even out into the hallway. She mopped up what she could, but there was no one to tell this to. Finally, the next morning, it would have been good to have someone at the front desk a little earlier than 10:00, since we wanted to tour the city and had to return to our room to check out in the middle of our tour. I think if we had been in any room other than the one we had it would have been quieter, and the location of your hotel is very good. I would stay there agin if there were just two of us instead of three. Your lady at the desk was quite kind, and gave us a vary good recommendation for dinner (and she even made reservations for us).

The bathrooms and entry were a bit grim, but the rooms were clean and pleasant. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and enjoyed our stay. We did have a bit of trouble locating the property and would have enjoyed a map or directions.

Not welcoming from the outside. Room was clean and reasonably spacious but decor needed some attention. Having to cross reception to get to the bathroom for a shower was an inconvenience. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Wonderful, large room with stenciled wall and ceiling (#4). The windows opened onto one of the few streets that allow cars in Lucca. But it was quiet at night. The kitchen was very basic, but usable, though we chose to eat out. Bathrooms relatively clean and always available. We enjoyed our stay.

This place was a nice place to stay. There were 3 shared bathrooms and our bed was very comfortable. I would recommend this place to stay.

How to reach Da Elisa alle Sette Arti Bed and Breakfast

By car
From the motorway take the exit Lucca, follow the signs for the centre and the train station. From there, keeping the town walls on the left, take the road around the walls and after the first bend, turn on the left and enter in Lucca through the white town gate called Porta Elisa. Take via Elisa until number 25, on the right-hand side.

By train
From Lucca train station take the pedestrian street in front of the station, cross the meadow and go right up to the walls. From there, take the path up onto the walls and walk along the walls until you reach the next exit of the bastion. Go down from the walls and take via San Micheletto until the crossroads with via Elisa.

By bus
From the bus station in Piazzale Verdi go straight down Via San Paolino, cross Piazza San Michele to Via Roma, continue in Via Santa Croce, pass 2 (two) piazzas, go through the old San Gervasio Gate and just a wee bit further down Via Elisa to number 25 on the left size.

By plane
Pisa airport is linked to Lucca by railway line or by Bus line. It is also possible to take a taxi or rent a car from the airport. In this case, choose the motorway A12 and A11 (change in Pisa Nord) with the directions Lucca-Florence. Remember that in Italy the motorway signs are in green.
