We loved our stay here. Gorgeous rooms and surroundings and very helpful owners. Breakfast was extra but was well worth the cost. We felt very at home here and our children loved the pool. We had a bit of trouble finding Casa Biancalana from the written directions on our confirmation. Worth taking a map.

We had an amazing time at the villa, very friendly and helpful owners, nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation was spacious and clean, if only the weather would have behaved we could have enjoyed the garden area much more. Make sure you book your car hire in advance.

Difficult to find. Great difficulty getting in. Parking a problem (car was vandalised)- difficult neighbour. Generally a bit depressing and amateur.

Very friendly owners! A nice small swimming pool; we didn't need more, because we always had the feeling we had our private garden and pool. Very nice and quiet garden. 2 kms to the old town center is not far, but you need a bike, car, taxi,... to go to the center. Carrefour at 1 km where you can buy a lot of Italian fresh food & drinks; no problem to consume them at Casa Biancalana, because they don't offer lunch or dinner. We got free bikes; they are only ok to drive very small distances, because they were in a bad condition (as many other bikes we saw on the beautiful walls in Lucca;typically "italian"). A good place for people who want to visit Lucca & surroundings in combination with a typical Toscanian home & garden, where they can spend some lovely hours at the swimming pool. The owner tries to do a lot to offer the guests a good stay. Also thanks to that price/quality is ok; I rated a 7 because in high season B&B in Italy is very expensive for a belgian tourist. We have the intention to go back, also thanks to the hospitality. Grazie, Atilia.

The B & B was a little far out of the town center and with limited bus service, getting around was a bit of a challenge. However, the facility itself was very nice. Our apartment was small, but the bathroom and the master bedroom were spacious. The outdoor area was just beautiful and the courtyard outside our front door was quite and peaceful. The family who owns the facility was very kind and accomodating. We enjoyed our stay.

We had high hopes for our stay at Casa Biancalana as the reviews on Venere were glowing and the pictures looked inviting. Sadly we were incredibly dissappointed. Our catalogue of problems were as follows: 1) We couldn't find it despite driving past it twice - as well as the directions being poor the property doesn't say it's a B&B and from the front is simply a bland looking house with no driveway and a frontage directly onto the street. 2)Having been told we couldn't park at the property itself and lugged our bags over the busy road we were told that the price quoted did not include breakfast as was clearly stated on our confirmation email. We were not told this in a nice way - apparently the proprietor simply couldn't offer B&B at the price we had been quoted as the room was 'large' and she had to go to the troble of putting a cot in it for our baby. 3) Exhausted after our journey and the bags carrying episode and dismayed about the breakfast I was then gobsmaked when the proprietor asked me to help her assemble a dilapidated cot from several antiquated pieces! 4) After all of this - my wife asked where we could get a drink. Having struggled with the bags and the cot we hoped we might be offered some water or coffee but were cutly given directions to the local supermarket!! 5) The room was large and on two floors with a small kitchen - sounds great doesn't it? Until you realise that it was depressingly dark even during the day(only one window downstairs which made the living area unlpeasant) and that the kitchen area was windowless with old and facilities that looked the bad side of dirty! 6) The walk into Lucca was on a main road so the family had to dodge cars and a dead cat to get into the town. We have stayed in Italy many times and love the hospitality, the architecture, the people and are well used to the Tuscan way of life. Needless to say - we will NOT be staying at Casa Biancalana ever again!!

We enjoyed our day very much (unfortunately we stayed only one day). Our rooms name was "Caterina". It was very big and had an own (almost) private terrace which was so nice. Staff was very kind and always helpful (esp. Caterina). We could rent bikes to go to Lucca for free (please put more air into the tires ;) ). Breakfast was good. Thank you a lot. We will come back for sure!

We highly recommend Casa Biancalana to anyone traveling to the Lucca area. The facility was clean and spacious. The managing family made us feel welcome and went out of their way to help us whenever possible. They provided us needed guidance with maps and recommendations for things ranging from our daily coffee fix to a close grocery store . The room fit our needs well and had a very local flavor. The grounds were well maintained and we felt very safe at all times. The walk to the inner city was reasonable and parking was not an issue. We found this to be a pleasant part of our trip. Use of their bikes was an unexpected bonus as was the outside patio. We appreciate their hospitality.

This facility is a country house along a suburban road about 2 miles from the northeast corner of Lucca. We were worried at first about the traffic but it died shortly after 1900 hrs. We received an outstanding welcome from Attilia, the proprietor, she seved us tea and cake on the patio overlooking her garden and pool in the late afternoon. This was wonderful and not expected. Breakfasts were in the adjoining dining area with big windows on the garden. Breakfast was very good with some locally baked favorites on the menu. The facility is a rustic and rambling house on several levels. There are lots of quaint stairs and doors so access is limited to those capable of negotiating narrow steep areas. We found it fun. We enjoyed an upstairs flat with kitchen and extra room for a third person. Bath was roomy by european standards with a shower only for bathing. Noisey sticky doors was the only complaint but fit the situation. Accomodations were as expected and the price was reasonable. Attilia has maps and brochures for visitors and can call a taxi if needed. Parking for those arriving in automobiles is close by at the end of the building across the road, there is no charge. Casa Biancalana was a great experience for us and we will return should we happen to visit this area again.

Wow, the photographs really do not do Casa Biancalana justice, it was a wonderful surprise when we arrived there (eventually - the map/directions need more detail, as it is hard to find). Upon entry through large double doors we were greeted by a grand entrance hall which had all the charm and feel of someone's well loved and cared for home.....and this is exactly what Casa Biancalana was - we were like house guests at a friends house. No formal reception, no soulless furniture, just a real feelig of belonging. Our apartment was arranged on 2 floors (Apartment Lavinia), with downstaris being a bathroom, kitchen and sitting room. Upstairs were 2 good sized bedrooms. Only drawback was lack of light - but that mattered little as we spent most of our time in Lucca or relaxing in the beautiful Tuscan garden. Our children loved this haven with an abundance of lemon trees, and the owners happily supplied us with a new wig wam to keep the children entertained. Our only concern was the swimming pool, which is too deep for small children but perfect for the adults. I'd recommend lunch and/or dinner in the garens of Casa Biancalana - relaxing with a group of friends whilst you're served a perfect home made Tuscan feast actually beat any Lucca dining experience. Sharing the candle lit garden with perhaps 3 or 4 other tables we enjoyed the home made Sangria, plentiful wine and a relaxed barbecue.....and don't forge to ask for a glass of delicious home made limoncello when you've finished. The owner took real pride in her work and made us all feel extrmeely welcome...so much so that we will return next year.....but ssshhh - don't tell too many people about Lucca's little secret......
