First trip to Lucca and fell in love with the place.Accommodation very good, friendly owner. The hotel is a little hard to find as Via Fillungro bears round to the left at its end and you can walk straight on into a different street, very confusing !Nice cafe next door if you dont want to provide your own breakfast.Quite noisy first thing in the morning as on a main street with the cafe opening early, but not that much of a problem.

The location on the famous street of old town Lucca, above a local coffee/bar was excellent. However the location also was very noisy till the wee hours of the morning. Bed and Breakfast is a bit of a misnomer. There is a kitchen which is shared by the 4 rooms. Overall we enjoyed our stay. We would recommend this hotel if one is open to staying in an old building with old but workable furnishings. We walked the 1.5 km from the bus station. We had a hard time finding the hotel as it is only indentified by a small plaque by the old door (the 4 rooms share the building). Do have a phone as access is via calling the manager who comes in 10 minutes. An experience!

Excellent location in lovely old building - although breakfast wasn't included, you were next to the cafe. Easy to find on the main street but quiet. Easy access to the old centre and the city walls. PLaces like this prove that you can find great accommodation in Tuscany without spending a fortune.

We visited "Alla Dolce Vita" for the second time now and found it again to be the perfect place to stay in the old city of Lucca. Fabio was very friendly and helpful, the room and the whole apartment was as clean from the inside and as noisy from the outside as expected. Unfortunately, the small cafè bar downstairs closed for vacation after two days, but there are plenty of other places for a good morning cappuccino. We can only recommend this place to anybody who is willing to explore Lucca in an authentic way. But be careful: The frequent waves of smell from the cheese store around the corner may cause you to buy more cheese than the luggage limitations of your airline may allow...

Location was good; large, clean, quiet room in the back. Owners were friendly and helpful. We booked a triple but our daughter was not able to accompany us, so the owner only charged us for a double. The bathroom was only "adequate", it could be improved.

Good location. It's best to park in the free lots outside the city walls as parking lots inside the walls are paid by the hour. You have to call the landlord/manager once you get there to be let inside, as he is not on site. This can be difficult if you don't have a phone - however, we went to tourist information and they called him for us.

Great location for seeing Lucca & Pisa. Met very quickly after calling contact number on arrival. Large family room and no problems with noise at night - this may have been because cafe downstairs was closed for a few weeks (more Bed than Breakfast really!). Had some problems with getting hot water and shower had very minimal pressure, but then it is an old traditional building! Grateful for the fan in room as very hot in August. Easy to hire bikes nearby so you can go around city wall path. My girls loved all the shops in the main street and the yogurteria opposite. Fantastic city for all ages.

We stayed in a double bed room with private bathroom. The room was clean and big enough for two people with two suitcases. The bathroom could be a bit larger and newer, but for one night in Lucca it fulfilled completely our expectations. There is a common kitchen with a table and three chairs and a refrigerator, which we found quite useful to make our own breakfast. The B&B is located perfectly, near the tourism office and directly on the main tourist paths, so everything is within walking distance. However this makes it loud in the early morning hours. Ear plugs would have been useful for that. Lucca is a very lovely and charming old town to visit and you should definitely make a tandem tour on the city walls around the city.

First and only stay. David was helpful with local info. Our very noisy-room was on the outside corner over the street. No brecky, but small kitchen available. Floors were dirty, and not all the lights worked. Generally convenient by auto; if you are traveling by foot and train, so-so. No place to store our tandem bike, so it was a good thing we had it folded/packed and didn't ride here in Lucca which is a wonderful town to visit.

The stay at the Dolce Vita was very nice. The owner was very nice and helpfull. The rooms are spacious, with their own (not overall clean) bathroom. The building and rooms are quite old, which has its own charme and the location in the middle of the old city centre is fantastic. The kitchen lacks of some utensils like enough glasses, dishes, etc.

We stayed in Lucca for one night on our way back from Florence to the airport in Pisa. Lucca is really beautiful, and I would highly recommend it over Pisa which is dirty and unloved in comparison. The trains are extremely cheap (averaging 5 euro each way) in Italy and you can get to Pisa from Lucca very quickly and easily for a day trip to the tower etc. Lucca is also a short train ride from Viareggio, a lovely beach town but absolutely packed with Italians slapping on bronzing oil! Any one who has been to Italy before will know Italians like to shout at one another and this is where the Alla Dolce Vita had a problem. It is centrally located in a traditional Tuscan building and hence the noise was a little disturbing late at night. The main problem we found was the position of our room; don't get the room off the kitchen! Unfortunatly, I was put in the awkward position of having to get up to explain to the other guests that our room was basically in the kitchen and I'd appreciate it if they stopped rolling the dice! However, the owner was extrmely friendly and helpful. We're arty people in our late twenties and like small hotels with character...in the end you get what you pay for!

We (young couple) stayed at "Alla Dolce Vita" for five nights and we were very satisfied. The accommodation was very clean and tidy and there was a small public kitchen which provided all the basics for simple meals besides lids and sharp knifes. The very "Italian" atmosphere is supported by noise from the street day and night and a nice caffé bar in the first floor. Everything within the old city of Lucca is in walking distance of less than half an hour. We will surely return to Lucca and it is very likely that we'll stay again at "Alla Dolce Vita" because it is a great base for doing exactly what its name suggests.

Nice location, but be prepared to wake early as you are staying in a bustling and busy town. The traditional windows of our room didnt keep the incessent sound of mopeds at bay too long. Apart from that. Good location and price. Clean and functional.

Lucca is an enchanting place, and Alla Doce Vita a pleasant place to stay. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, the rooms clean and practical, no dust-collecting frills! In spite of temperatures in the 90's we kept cool with the help of the huge fan in our room. The kitchen is a bonus, it means you do not have to go out for every meal. Just remember to take some matches or a lighter with you! The cafe downstairs is fine but check your bill before paying.

Everything is within walking distance of this B&B (15min walk to train station; everything else is closer). Proprietors are very friendly and helpful. They reside 5mins away from the property, and respond promptly to all phone-calls, with whatever is necessary. Upon our arrival, the room was prepared as requested (with a baby cot). The shower sprayed water all over our lavatory when used; except for that, everything worked. Common kitchen is basic but sufficient to enjoy the fantastic selection of gourmet preparations and fresh produce which is on offer at nearby shops. Managed to cook pasta, omelettes. Some noise from the streets and other appartments penetrates into the room, but this will be the case almost anywhere within the city walls. Wasn't enough to keep any of us awake (family w. young kids). Downstairs from the B&B is a caffé, the staff of which are very hospitable towards the B&B guests. Have your morning coffee and pastry there. Ask B&B proprietors to recommend local restaurants, and where the local markets are. There is a good laundromat around the corner. Spend 3 days getting to know Lucca on foot, and you will feel like a local. Friendly, cozy town full of wonderful food!

A first (small) drawback was that at arrival, we had to make a phone call because the B&B hasn't a reception. So we had to wait 5 minutes before someone could open the door. A second, bigger drawback was that there was a very bad smell in the kitchen. But this was more than compensated by the very good location, and the owner was also very helpfull: he helped us carrying the bags and even drove us to the parking with all our luggage.

David was a most gracious host, giving us information on everything we would need to know on our stay in Lucca. Unfortunately I am a light sleeper and was able to hear 6am traffic as the quiet little town woke up. Other than that, it was a perfectly charming place to stay, and I would highly recommend it.

Accommodation very basic, but conveniently placed in the historic town centre. Owners were very welcoming and very helpful. The bathroom was a little old-fashioned and could have been cleaner, but otherwise a relaxing stay in a charming city.

David was extremely hospitable, helpful, and conscientious. Provided invaluable assistance upon arrival and ensured my wife and I were most confortable in our room. Responded rapidly to all requests for assistance such as acquiring an electric fan, leading us to the "Free" parking lot, recommended restarants that were very reasonable and top quality, and recommendations to see/visit key sites of Lucca. What a wonderful experience in Lucca and specificaly at the Alla Dolce Vita. Plan to return this winter and again in the summer.

Alla Dolce Vita is an excellent place to stay. Our room was very nice, in old tuscany style. The lady who owns this accommodation is a very kind person. It's also a nice location, in the center of Lucca. Our stay of 1 night was too short. We would like to stay longer!

The room was nice, but very noisy early in the morning. We had to keep the windows open because of the heat. The kitchen was rather primitive, student-like. The bathroom functionable, but primitive as well. The bar under the rooms was very nice and friendly.

I strongly recommend alla Dolce Vita. The owners are really helpful - they offered to pick us up at the railway station, and in response to an idle remark about Florence gave us lots of information about getting there. The place is lovely - hotel facilities might be better, but for that price you would not find a hotel of such charm in the middle of Lucca. My only problem was with the venere.com booking system. The online form for credit card number submission was not secure, and those parts of the site that are secure had the wrong name on their certificate. Please fix this, venere!

My wife and I appreciated the kitchen facilities here. The owner gave us a warm welcome and was extremely helpful with our other arrangements, despite having a broken ankle and an expectant wife! The flat has a tasteful, traditional style - see www.luccabed.com. It is situated close to the town walls, tourist office and the main street in this lovely, homely town. It is slightly difficult to find because the via Filunga bends off to the left at the top and it is next to a cafe on the corner of a street before you get to Piazza S. Maria. We found the tourist office very helpful in directing us. Hope to be back some day!

Could be a nice place to stay with a touch of taste in the furniture and overall look of the room which was something sad. We paid 57 Euros for a double bedroom without breakfast, not really a very good value. Fine situation in the historic center with a car parking nearby.

Very convenient location for visiting Lucca, close to center, to Tourist Office, to bus etc. The hosts are very nice and helpful. The room was small but the price was very reasonable. We needed to phone the owners on arrival - found the phone box just around the corner. they arrived within 5 minutes and were friendly and welcoming. the room and kitchen area were great. it was very noisy - the property is at the top of via fillungo close to where everyone leaves their cars and the street sweeping machine does a very thorough job under the window between 6 - 6.30 each morning - ear plugs essential.

The guest house had everything you need for a basic stay in Lucca. The only thing I really noticed was that there was no TV, but the activity in the street below was entertaining enough. Got out and saw the city instead. Via Filunga is a great shopping street, an artery to the rest of Lucca, and great for walking off your evening meals. It was noisy at night, but being a city boy, this was no problem, and quite happily left the windows open. Free parking is quite a long way away, but cheap parking within the walls is available along the inside of the eastern wall. We asked at information, and they were able to direct us quite well. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to walk from here to the guest house. The guest house sign is a small brass plaque on a wall in a small piazza, and can be easily missed.
