We really enjoyed our stay. we usually use the type of hotel I can best describe as 'bland' but Al Tuscany was anything but. It made us feel as if we were in someone's home and had kindly allowed us to stay a few nights. Many thanks.

Our hosts were most welcoming and gave great advice on restaurants in the town. Al Tuscany is in a great location in the middle of Lucca. Our rooms were quite large and comfortable with a very modern bathroom. The included breakfast was quite expansive and delicious. Thanks for a wonderful stay-Lucca is a beautiful town to visit

Charming family-run little pensione on the top floor of a building right in the middle of Lucca. The owner has to meet you within a certain time frame for check-in but a cute little elevator has been added recently for an easy arrival with your luggage. The breakfast room table is fantastic!

We can only reiterate the comments of other guests - this is a superbly managed, clean, characterful establishment in the heart of this beautiful historic city. The quality of service, helpfulness and consideration of the staff were outstanding, and their local knowledge invaluable. Breakfast was ample and varied - the fresh fruit, fruit juice, cold meats and freshly made bruschetta were a real bonus, and Marina and our fellow guests delightful company. The availability of bottled water and hot drinks in the kitchen whenever we wanted was most welcome and considerate. We had a quiet, cosy, comfortable room overlooking the rooftops. Those wishing a quiet night's sleep should request a room at the rear. Excellent value for money - we would definitely stay again. Thank you all very much!

The owner was very welcoming and the breakfast was good. If we were to stay here again, we would ask for a room in the back due to the loud street noise during both nights of our stay.

Al Tuscany is an ideal location to explore Lucca or go shopping. We had a very nice and quite quadruple with two separate rooms, very comfortable for a family with children. The B&B can be reached by a lift, if you have heavy luggage it is nice. The owner Claudio is an excellent adviser. He checked the prices for renting a car for one day. It was too high, so we took the train to Viareggio for a day trip. It was the best breakfast we had at different B&B is Tuscany! We totally recommend Al Tuscany and plan to come again.

This b & b has many pluses. the location is superb: a few steps from the main attractions, squares, access to shopping, restaurants and the 'wall', walking distance to the train station. the other big plus was the staff. the staff is incredible. isabella and marienna were kind, helpful, and ready to provide essential travel information. they knew about the city and could make suggestions, reservations and give detailed maps and help. they even looked up the weather and train schedules for us.! between the 2 of them, they speak many languages. the third great thing about this place was the breakfast: lots of very choice food- juices, pastries, eggs, cheeses, coffee, fruit- all presented well. the only small problem was that the the rooms were a bit crowded. other than that, i definately would stay again.

Excellent B&B. Wonderful staff who are very helpful and give great recomendations. Great breakfast, with a variety of meats, cereals, hard boiled eggs, refills of coffee, hot chocolate for the kids. They even tried to help us book a B&B for our stay later inthe trip in Rome. A wonderful place.

Ideally situated hotel with super staff. Isabelle (sp?) on arrival met us, help carry our bags, showed me where we could keep cold drinks. Provided maps and excellent recommendations and even arrange for me to send a UPS parcel home. The lovely Scottish lady in the morning, was also very helpful and friendly. Beautiful town, we really should have stayed 2 nights.

We loved our stay at Al Tuscany. The B&B was very nice, but it was the owner and the staff that really made it a GREAT experience. Every effort was made to provide us with a great time not just at the B&B, but to enjoy all of Lucca. I definitely would stay there again and I would absolutely recommend it. Thank you!

Close to everything. The train station is a short 10 min walk from the B&B. Lucca is one of the best "base - camps" to do Toscana. Excellent service and a very good breakfast which is important when you are travelling around each day. The rooms are big enough and clean and we enjoyed communicate with all kind of people during the breakfast.

The comments that were less than 10 are just honest but not a negative about Al Tuscany. This B&B is located in the heart of old Lucca. It is up a tiny street on which people walk and talk through the town thus there is some extra noise. The rooms are small that is because the original dwelling was begun in the 1200s! Our reception was lovely just a little delayed as we rang all the doorbells in the 3 story dwelling to be let in to the secure space. I wouldn't trade staying here with staying in a modern, large space. It was charming, the breakfasts were fine, the owner and staff were friendly and helpful. The owner drove our belongings and us to our car parked outside of the walled city when we left. There were bikes there which we could borrow and did. We took the audio tour of Lucca and got off and on the bikes throughout the day. We rode the bikes along the upper wall and had amazing views.

This was my 1st trip to Lucca with 2 friends and we had a wonderful time at the Al Tuscany. The location is great; right in the center of the old town within walking distance to everything. The B&B is very interesting. It is located on the 3rd (4th) floor with a dedicated lift only for the hotel. It was an apartment at one time so the rooms are a bit interesting. We had a triple room which turned out to be a great surprise - we actually had 2 bedrooms and private bath! it was great! There is a small kitchen with some communal fruit and beverage available all the time and breakfast is served family style around a large dining table in another room. The hotel was full when we stayed so it was quite crowded in the mornings but they provide pretty much anything you could ask for at breakfast. The hosts are very nice and recommended several restaurants near by for dinner as well as bike rental places. Our room had a lovely view over the rooftops in Lucca. Wireless internet in the room was a plus as well as I brought my laptop with me. Overall it was a very pleasant pace to stay and I would do so again if I visit Lucca in the future.

Family of 4 with two teen girls. The location (once you figure out how to get there with your bags) is great, in the center of Lucca and walking to everything. We had the Quad room, which was big but I will say we had a heat wave and the AC unit was not the best and did not quite reach the girls separate room. However, if it wasn't so hot (late Aug.) the rooms would have been just fine. (Couch can use some padding.) Parking can be a problem and getting to the room was a bit of an adventure, so get specific instructions from Claudio when you book. Claudio went out of his way to help us find parking, even having me follow him in his car to find a vacant spot. Overall great location, rooms are nice and breakfast was tremendous. Not a luxury Hotel mind you but a very nice B&B with an extremely hospitable host.

On our vacation in Tuscany we, my daughter and I, stayed 2,5 days in Lucca. We felt very comfortable at the b&b Al Tuscany. The room was clean and cozy. Of course there is some noise from the street in the evening, but this goes along with the good location in the heart of the old city. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the chats with other international guests around the big breakfast table.

We highly recommend this B and B to others. Al Tuscany exceeded our expectations. The owner and his assistant were very gracious, provided traveling assistance throughout Tuscany, and Marina was expecially helpful with train information to another region. Marina is very knowledgeable about Italy and Europe and has a great sense of humor. The breakfasts were exceptional!!! We enjoyed meeting other guests and the dining room is very comfortable and accommodating. Our room was spacious, clean, large bathroom, excellent water pressure, and had a wonderful view of the city. Very quiet also. The B & B is in a great location and everything is easy to find. The owner has gone out of his way to provide a comfortable and inviting room and B & B that depicts the charm of Lucca and its people. The restaurants were very good also. Thank you Marina and Claudio for a very memorable and relaxing vacation. We will return! Donna and Harry

The owners were very helpful in rescuing the luggage that was lost and shipped to Florence by mistake. The owner drove to pick up the suitcase while we were out touring. My friend had been without her clothes for 6 days. The ownere had helpful advice and also assisted us in locating a missing credit card. The room was good and so was the breakfast. There is one big table around which all the guests can gather for breakfast and trade adventures.

We were very pleasantly surprised by this B&B given some slightly luke warm reviews from other visitors. The welcome was very friendly and helpful, the room was large and furnished in a nicely authentic style. No problems in the bathroom at all. The best thing was the breakfast which was served in a very friendly manner and you could have as much as you wanted of tea, coffee (good) cereals, fruit juice, cake (Home made - excellent!) cold meats & cheeses. The B&B is on the third floor but there is a lift. It is well located smack in the centre of historic quarter. We arrived by train, about 10 mins walk from the station so I don't know about parking.

A wonderful place to stay in wonderful Lucca. Staff are very friendly (no language problems) and there is a relaxed feel about the place. Comfortable, clean and spacious room. Claudio (owner), gave us tickets to a Puccini concert and it was a highlight of our trip. Great view from our room over the roofs and courtyards. I am sorry we could not stay longer in this fascinating town. We caught the local bus from Pisa and enjoyed the comfortable ride from outside the Pisa airport to inside the walls of Lucca.

A great welcome and a great place. From the outside you wouldn't know it was there but when you arrive upstairs and are ensconced in the majestic surrounds you know you are truly in Lucca. On a side street next to the shopping area, we stayed in a suite at the top of the building. Great rooms and view and soo quite. We were made to feel at home with free use of the kitchen as well. But the hosts were never intrusive and a fantastic spread for breakfast. You are in the heart of Lucca if you stay here. A place you'll always remember. Don't expect plush, this is a 12century building that, like most in Lucca, has been built up and renovated countless times. The bed was more comfortable than the 5 star hotel we had come from and the views from the window terrific. Wander around Lucca, get lost, you'll eventually end up back here. (Just keep the map you are given). It is a haven from the bustle outside. You can get cheaper B&B but it will most probably be out side the walls. The same with hotels. Pay the little extra and stay in the heart of the city. You won't regret it.

Al Tuscany has a wonderful location inside the walls of Lucca - truly a 10 minute walk from the train station. It is clean and welcoming, once you master the key system. Marina, who takes pride in serving outstanding breakfasts, the best I had the whole time I was in Italy, is especially helpful and friendly. Being able to make a cup of tea mid-afternoon after cycling the walls in the rain was especially appreciated. And, a huge bonus, was the free concert tickets to the Puccini concerts at the nearby church. I definitely would stay there again.

Al Tuscany must be the best b&b in Lucca!! The owner Claudio and his staff were more then helpfull; free tickets for a Puccini concert, parking help and other tips for a perfect stay in a beautiful town. The room was small but very nice and clean, the shower was tiny but did the job quite well.Breakfast was very good; fresh fruit every day, along with all the rest that makes a nice start of the day. The location in the middle of the historic center is perfect. Lucca is a very nice town, we would gladly return and can most certainly recommend Al Tuscany!

Nicely located in a narrow Luccan street, we were well looked after. Our shower door needed attention and the door didn't unlock the first time, and for these tiny things management gave us a great bottle of wine to apologise! We had a great time and the breakfast was very generous. They recommended excellent restaurants! we would love to have had a room with a view, but we should have asked ahead. we were provided with tickets to the opera.

Al Tuscany is a fantastic b&b and perfectly located in the centre of Lucca. The manager Claudio and his assistant were helpful, knowlegable, accomodating and more than willing to cater for individual needs, even making a special shopping trip to buy me fruit for breakfast each morning. The breakfast was the best we were offered in Italy - always fresh and a wide variety of food was available. Whilst the shower was on the small side, the hospitality and friendliness of the managers made our stay so enjoyable that it more than made up for it. We would not hesitate to stay there again and look forward to returning to Lucca.

I must say that Claudio and his assistant, Mandy, could not have been kinder to me during my brief stay. They went out of their way to see to my comfort and well-being. As a bonus, I was given a free ticket to an eventing Puccini concert in an ancient church nearby and a bicycle to ride atop the city wall. Lucca was an unforgettable experience. Although the single room was quite small, the communal dining room was warm and home-like, with a lovely frescoed ceiling, lots of art books and tourist information for Lucca and the region. I know that Al Tuscany also has suites and a beautiful little kitchen, which I believe would be a plus for guests who are staying longer. I felt quite secure and greatly enjoyed the other guests (an international assortment of people.) Lucca is a great place to visit. I hope to return and stay at Al Tuscany again, soon. Thank you for all your kindness and help, Claudio and Mandy!

We had a wonderful holiday in Lucca, underpinned by staying at Al Tuscany, which is in the centre of the town but not noisy at all. Claudio was so welcoming - he showed us into our room (the mini suite) and then invited us to return to the breakfast room for some bread, cheese and wine. Throughout the week we enjoyed his company, and that of his assistant, Isabel, and learned a great deal about Lucca. Al Tuscany was one of the high points in our two weeks of b&b experiences in Italy. Our host, the owner, was the consummate host and was very generous--to the poiint that our stay cost less than we thought it would. Al Tuscany is centrally located within the walls of Lucca. First trip to Lucca for Eric Clapton concert- at piazza nextdoor to b&b so perfect location. Very thankful for elevator especially for our luggage. Host very friendly & helpful. Rooms big & very pleasant and restful decor, windows & fan sufficient to stay cool/comfortable. Bathroom ok, newly renovated (bigger than some other places)but shower overflows, no matter. Room quiet, even after concert. Breakfast includes fresh fruit! Love the atmosphere in Lucca, would like more time there to go exploring.

The Hotel was a little difficult to locate as the signage was not readily visible a new sign would be helpful. The entry access is uninviting, but once you get inside all is forgiven. The Owner and staff are very helpful and friendly, facilities are good. The breakfast is good and the kitchen facilities can be utilised for meals. The location is central to all of Lucca which proved ideal for our trip. About 15 to 20 mins walk from the station. There was good interation between staff and guests.

Al Tuscany was a fantastic location - right in the heart of Lucca in the main shopping area. It was not noisy though, as the rooms are so far above the road. (there is a lift!). We were in the loft with en suite (i advise you go for this). And we woke up to the sound of church bells (don't start till mid morning!) very romantic. Our room was large enough - the shower was quite small, but OK, but it was a steep climb up stairs with the lugguage to get to this room (some other rooms are on the floor below and don't have this problem). Saying that Claudio (the owner) is more than willing to take your luggage. Claudio is a real character, served us with coffee when we arrived, gave us the parking permit for our car, and lent us bikes to go around Lucca (for free) - really helpful, but not overpowering (they live in there too). The breakfast is very average, not sure you can book without this though. Great Location, very romantic / quaint rooms / a great homely feel. Would recommend to friends.

Pleasant third floor apartment within the walls in the centre of the beautiful city of Lucca. We had the junior suite, a nice room and furniture, crisp clean sheets, modern bathroom, with a view to the back, probably quite rare in this narrow streeted, largely pedestrianised city. Claudio went out of his way to be welcoming and helpful. Charming and rustic.

My friend and I stayed at Al Tuscany and had a wonderful time. Ava was a fantastic hostess and she made our stay very enjoyable. the location of the property in Lucca was great, close to shops, restaurants, local places of interest. I know we would definitely recommend anyone travelling to Lucca to stay here. It was also an easy trip into Florence from Lucca by train and a good base to explore other areas.

We really enjoyed this B&B! The only difficult thing was trying to figure out how to get into the walled city and then find the location of the B&B. It is pretty intimidating to drive in Lucca if you aren't prepared for what it is like. But once we got past that, the rest was great. Claudio was extremely helpful and so was his assistant who worked in the kitchen. They were always willing to help us with questions and made great suggestions on places to eat. The room was typical size by European standards, but was perfectly suited for two travellers with a budget in mind. If you haven't stayed in Lucca, I would recommend staying here.

We have really enjoyed our stay at Al Tuscany. The location is excellent and Claudio is a superior host. If you ever visit Al tuscany, go for one of the suites because they are furnished beautifully, have a splendid view over this wonderful city and are very quiet... we ended up with a charming room but it was situated on the street side so it was slightly noisy... Otherwise, excellent place and our choice for our next visit to Lucca!!

The facility is ideally located just where you would want it to be if you had your pick of any location in Lucca. The proprietor, Claudio, is a national treasure; he makes you feel as if you were his favorite children home for a visit. We wanted to rent bicycles for a ride around the top of the walls of the city, but he insisted that instead of renting we borrow his. He made calls on our behalf to a private van operator whom we had hired to take us on a custom day-trip to some of the back roads outside the city. He made the extra pot for the (included) breakfast when we drank more than our share. He even left out a bottle of a nice Morellino di Scansano for us to drink on the last night that we were there. We traveled with friends; we rented a "standard" double for euro80, and they the "deluxe" double for euro120. Our room was fully worth the euro80, while theirs had much more than twice the space and amenities. Our room was a bargain for the price, theirs a super bargain that is certainly worth considering if you plan to spend time in your room. The only negative point: Claudio is a bit forgetful about minor repairs. The exhaust fan in our en-suite bathroom was broken and, although we mentioned it to Claudio twice at breakfast, it did not get fixed during our stay.

Wonderful room, well furnished, quiet, and overlooking rooftops with view towards cathedral. Would certainly recommend to friends. Soon got used to the stairs but glad of the lift on hotter days. Good central location in pedestrian area - only took 15 minutes to walk from train station. Loved Lucca especially the walls.

The location of the B&B was great, but it was difficult to find by car. It is at the top of an old historical house in the central of Lucca and the views over the roof tops were wonderful. The B&B has an own elevator and the room was clean and nicely furnished. Claudio (the owner) was very helpful and friendly. He always served us the breakfast in his homely kitchen and told us very interesting seightseeing-tips. We can recommand everyone this lovely B&B.

Hello, I picked the Al Tuscany because of the reviews of previous clients who raved about the owner/hotelier of the property. They reported that he was very helpful, congenial, and most "simpatico." I agree. I had a wonderful time talking to the owner, cooking him dinner in his kitchen, and found him very helpful and accommodating. I felt right at home. I would recommend staying at this hotel. Plus, the location couldn't be better.

The welcoming is excellent. Claudio (the manager) is typical italian guy : charming, friendly, giving information about places to see or things to do. Really excellent. It was a great stay. The accomodation is very good, and the breakfast is cool and friendly. I have enjoyed very well Lucca, along the fortifications and the streets, going by cycle of by feet. Nice !!!

Claudio is a most gracious host and did everything possible to see that we found the establishment and had a safe place to park the car. Claudio is passionate about Lucca and very interesting to talk with. The elevator is a very nice addition. The establishment was centrally located for our interests, and we would use it again if we were lucky enough to return to Lucca.

Great location. The lift had been installed so stairs were not an issue. Owner Claudio was very nice and accomodating. Just wish we had allowed more time for Lucca as it was a charming city with great walks for those so inclined.

Charming B&B at the top of a medieval town house in the heart of Lucca. Beautifully restored. Breakfast is served by the owner in his small, homely kitchen. The four flights of stairs were a bit onerous, but a lift is being instralled!

This B&B is centrally situated in Lucca. We were a bit put out when we arrived and had to lug our cases up 3 flights of stairs (the lift which had just been installed was not quite finished!) but the owner was very helpful and polite and made us feel at home. The room size was fine and the bed comfortable. We thought that it was good value for money.

Once over the initial shock of the stairs - which will be fine once the lift is fully installed - our welcome by Claudio was superb, we felt as if we were guests in his own home. The accommodation was fantastic; clean, bright and roomy and the position within the City walls was out of this world. The communal breakfasts in the kitchen were good fun and informative with Claudio hovering to provide for the needs of everybody. Highly recommended.

The picturesque building and location right in the heart of Lucca couldn't be faulted. Accomodation was crisp and clean. Our welcoming host just couldn't do enough and really did want us to treat the place like a home from home. His English was very good too. Choice of breakfast was a bit on the limited side but that was bountiful. Good value for money for the time of year and the location. Would certainly stay again in his very lovely "anniversary suite"!!

Although the property did not match the description 100% (We did not find the swimming pool for instance) The welcome from the owner, Claudio, his wonderful sense of humour and attention to our needs and sometimes problems more than compensated. The rooms are nicely furnished and the views over the roof tops are magnificent. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

Molto carino ed originale, ottima gestione tipicamente italiana. Forse, per la metratura delle stanze il prezzo è un po' alto, ma nel complesso è certamente un luogo piacevole che lascia buoni ricordi.

Initial impressions (confusion, room keys lost, renovation work) not good, but things got better over the weekend. The owner is very charming, nothing is too much trouble: he insisted on transporting our suitcase on his bicycle to save me fetching the car. The location is unbeatable. Good coffee, otherwise breakfast not great, but you can have as much as you can eat. Will be great when it is finished!

Our room and our hosts were excellent. We enjoyed our stay and the 67 steps to and from our room. Fresh bread or rolls at breakfast would have been a very nice bonus, instead of the packaged rolls provided. Our hosts spoke English and made us feel at home.
