Anna could not have been more welcoming. She picked me up at the train station and she or her husband would always be available to take me to town or pick me up if I wished. Since I am learning Italian, she made a point of sitting down with me in the morning and evening to have a conversation in Italian. Although bikes are available free of charge, I walked into town-about 25 minutes. Since the road back to the B&B is not well lit, I picked up dinner and ate in the lovely conservatory overlooking the garden. Breakfasts are tasty. One morning Anna served a savoury torte that she had modified from a family recipe.I would highly recommend Al Tondone to anyone who prefers tranquility and more space than central Lucca offers.

Excellent B&b close to city centre. We used their bikes to get into Lucca even on the last day as our flight left late. We were even able to have tea when we arrived to pick up our car.

The quality of the property was as good as advertised and the owners made it a truly memorable experience. The proprieters went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We will return to Al Tondone if we return to Lucca, without hesitation. Lucca is a treat in itself.

Pretty tricky to find but we were expecting that from comments we'd read. Luckily we were able to ask for directions. We stayed for 2 nights at the beginning of our holiday and it was a lovely start to the holiday. Anna was so helpful and friendly. It's quite a walk into Lucca but there is parking. Would recommend it.

Very nice B&B with great hospitality of the owners and quit en beautiful garden. Very clean rooms, and good breakfast. You can always use one of the 6 bikes, for free, to go to the center of Lucca and what is very nice is riding over the walls around the center of Lucca

My sister and I stayed at Al Tondone In October. We were made very welcome by Anna and her husband Benito. Anna met us at the bus station on our arrival in Lucca and throughout our stay she gave us lifts to and from the train and bus staions. The breakfast's were wonderful with a great selection of meats, cheeses, fruit, bread, homegrown tomatoes and Anna's marmalade was the best I have ever tasted. The bedroom was very spacious and exceptionally clean. Lucca is a lovely place and is a good location for visiting Florence and Pisa. We hope to return to Lucca again and will definately stay at Al Tondone.

We were a bit concerned when we found that the Inn was about a mile from Lucca, but there are great advantages to that. And Anna and Benito make your stay great. They are always there to help you with anything you need. You can use their bikes to get to town, but it's not a straightforward ride to get there. It's easy to park around the town, anyway. We visited Florence one day and other nearby towns, so it would have been a detriment to be within the Lucca walls, and yet we had dinner there each of our three nights. We highly recommend Al Tondone

The best thing about Al Tondone was our hostess. She was warm, friendly, and very helpful, wanting to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Bicycles were available to guests wanting to bike into Lucca. The room was comfortable, and breakfast was generous and tasty. There was a breakfast room and a common room, where internet access was available to guests. Our only difficulty was finding Al Tondone because it's outside the city off seveal side streets, and the sign identifying the property could be larger, as we drove by it 2 or 3 times.

It's the sort of place you want to keep a secret because you want to be able to stay there again when you want to and not have others competing against you! To be selfless and honest to the owner - it's so good others should know just how welcoming, hospitable and helpful your hosts are. Lovely breakfasts, peaceful location and the home grown tomatoes for breakfast were 'to die for'. Grateful to have stayed here and will look to stay again when we return.

We staying in Al Tondone for four nights in an en suite bedroom. The room was just super, very spacious and spotlessly clean. Anna is the perfect hostess and looked after us very well indeed. Al Tondone is about 15/20 minutes walk from Lucca and if you have no problems cycling there are bicycles provided at Al Tondone which we used for our entire stay. Lucca is just beautiful to cycle around and I would recommend it as a way of seeing the town easily. We would highly recommend Al Tondone as a location to base your stay in Lucca. ps The house and rooms all have air conditining which we were very happy about as the temperatures were close to 40oC by day and 26oC by night.

Anna and Benito were absolutely wonderful hosts-they treated us like family and went over and above with all the things they did for us. The inn was absolutely beautiful surrounded by lots of flowers and garden areas. Bikes were provided to us whenever we wished to use them and they were a lot of fun both in the neighborhood and in Lucca on the ramparts and on a bike path near the river. We loved Lucca and it is a great location for visiting nearby sites like Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre. My teenage kids enjoyed it so much that my daughter says she would love to own an inn someday.

Anna and Benito are the most kindest persons what I can imagine. Our stay was pleasant in every way. They picked up us from the station and shutteled back. We bicycled aroud Lucca. If you have car, parking is free and safe. In brekfast is all you need to start day. The most important things were kindness, cleaness, beautiful house and garden, free parking, free bicycling.

Regrettably an apartment block (low level) is being constructed next door, overlooking the side of Al Tondone. Walking to the town is not really an option as locations, restaurants in the town are also quite a distance. However parking from 20.00 hrs to 8.00 hrs is free, other times Euro 1.- to 1.50 per hr. within the walls.

Our stay at Al Tondone was excellent. Anna met us at the station and took us in her car to the B&B. The conservatory was used as the breakfast room in the morning and it was a nice place to relax in the evenings. We were provided with bicycles to use around Lucca. We also used the cycles to go to the station on a day trip to Pistoia. Anna gave us information on places to visit and restaurants. Highly recommended

If you are planning on visiting Lucca, a stay at Al Tondone (with Anna & Benito) is a must! Al Tondone is located about half a mile outside the city walls in a very quiet suburban area - don't let this distance deter you though because the bonus is that Al Tondone offer a selection of bikes from which you can take your pick! Exploring the delightful little streets and squares of Lucca by bike is wonderful, and it is an easy pedal joining in with all the other cyclists, joggers and pedestrians who love to cruise around the circumference of the city along the top of the city walls. Although frequented by many tourists, Lucca still retains it's charm and beauty and has a relaxing and laid back air with an abundance of wonderful street cafes/bars/restaurants - and some mouth-water gelaterias! From the minute that you arrive at Al Tondone you are welcomed warmly and absolutely nothing is too much trouble for Anna and Benito. Anna's breakfasts must be THE best in the whole of Tuscany with a different selection of fantastic pastries each day and home-made bread, homegrown tomatoes and the finest of cold meats and cheese, together with unlimited teas/coffee/juices - all served in a bright and welcoming sunroom with views over the pretty and secluded gardens. Our room was very spacious, exceptionally clean and well equipped - and the beds were very comfortable. We stayed over six days and will definitely return!

A fantastic B&B just outside of the centre and easily accessed by bike, provided free by the B&B. Anna was more than welcoming and accommodating - it felt more like being at home than a B&B! Breakfasts were really lovely - fresh tomatoes from Anna's garden were out of this world. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

What else can I say that's already been said ? Lucca is a beautiful place and is well worth the visit. We were there from 8th June to 15th June 2009. Quite a lot of shops and restaurants were closed after 7 o'clock so I'm not sure what later in the season is like. Still, it didn't stop us having a great time and we will return. To mention a few places worth eating - K2 ( Kappa Due ) was the best in our opinion followed closely with Rusticanella. Leo's is very good too but not a fave. There are various pizzerias and little bars etc. So !! --- My wife and I stayed at Al Tondone and we have to say it's a very nice bed & breakfast located about a half hour walk from the Porta Lisa side of the walled Lucca. Anna & Benito are fabulous people who couldn't do enough for us. We were given lifts in their car, advice where to go, bus timetables, train timetables and even a recipe for one of Anna's wonderful cakes !!!! Breakfast consisted of various teas, coffees, cereals, yogurts, homemade bruschettas, cheese, selection of meats, eggs, bread etc etc. Believe me - if I go back to Lucca once or for many more visits, I will stay at Al Tondone without hesitation.

Anna and Benito were so welcoming and helpful, it was a wonderful holiday, the breakfast was delicious with an array of fruit, yogurts, bread, ham & cheese and sweet treats, the room was excellent and the garden setting was perfect for relaxing. Being able to store drinks in the fridge and make hot drinks anytime in the conservatory and bring food in if you did not want to eat out was ideal. As the B&B is outside of the Lucca city you either need to use the bikes or have a car although Anna will pick you up from the station and take you in the car if you do not want to use the bikes. We found the bikes great and cycling on the city walls ia real highlight of the holiday. Our experience of staying at A Tondone was wonderful and I thoroughly recommend the B&B and we hope to return some day.

Our first time in Lucca was memorable for a number of reasons. Lucca itself is idyllic, with it's unspoiled, walled old town and in Winter was a great place to shop for Christmas. Even though every day it rained our spirits were never dampened. We spent 4 nights at Al Tondone and i can honestly say that i have never been so well looked after. Anna who owns the B+B with her husband Benito, was exceptional. She went beyond the call of duty to make our stay relaxed and comfortable. Her breakfasts are to die for and the communal areas are a warm welcoming place to be after you have been into town or explored the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The location is a small distance from the main town but we had a hire car which is essential in Winter. In Summer Anna said that she provides guests with bicycles which is the only way to see Lucca's old centre. The rooms are not modern in appearance and it's not boutique but that takes nothing away from the experience of staying at Al Tondone you almost feel part of the family. There's so much to do and explore in Tuscany that we will certainly be back and i would certainly pay Anna and Al Tondone a return visit.

This was a most welcome 3 night break form the hussel and bussel of big cities. Located just a few km from the old historic area of Lucca you can enjoy the peace and quite of semi rural living in Italy. Anna our hostess with the mostess is just wonderful..very welcoming and helpful but not in your face as we have had at other B&B's. Her breakfasts were delicious! and the rooms very comfortable and homely with a great shower. Our first night was spent in a room with a shared hallway bathroom and it was no problem at all!. Anna had been very thoughtful too and put polite notes on each persons door asking them/us to be considerate of other guests and to close doors quitely as not to disturb others...and it worked! we never heard a thing (why cant other hotels do this? I just hate hearing all those doors slam at night and loud talking and laughing in the hall ways..yes I'm a light sleeper!) The accommodation was very clean and comfortable-including the bed- and town was only a 20min walk away or a 5 min bike ride on The bikes provided free by Anna. This place is a true little haven, we would definatley return.

The manager of Al Tondone is a joy to deal with. Guests very well taken care of. The house and grounds are so clean, beautiful and peaceful you may want to spend hours in the yard rather than going out for tourist activities. One good surprise was that they have bikes for guests to borrow, for free, which are sort of needed if you don't have a car. The place is 2 km from store, restaurants, etc. Lucca is a great little town to visit.

We used the Al Tondone for a base whilst visiting relatives near Lucca. Was a bit hard to find, but absolutely loved Anna, who made our stay so memorable. She even got up at 3am to make us coffee and hot bread before we departed for a very early flight back to Rain land. And she packed us some breakfast to take home. A very special lady and a lovely welcoming place to stay. We were encouraged to pick the fresh apricots on the tree outside our bedroom. Refreshments on hand 24/7 and the free bicycles were great to use for exploring Lucca's city walls. Cant wait to return!
