The Garth Hotel - B&B - London
69 Gower Steet Bloomsbury Central London - London
877-662-6988Like many of the academics which frequent this area of the city, this historical 18th-century Georgian town house has its own eccentric and original character. Guests on a weekend break or visiting the University will enjoy the numerous paintings, photographs and prints in the hotel, which create a unique atmosphere and give away the owner's previous job as a collector of antiques.
The reception is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and there is abundant tourist information available in the lobby.
I would not stay there if I were on holiday, but if you have to stay in a London for a couple of days, it gives yoa a good location and value for money.

Our room was so small there wasn't anywhere we could put both suitcases down at once unless we stacked them. The bureau drawers opened into the end of one bed. The wardrobe door would not shut all the way and the single window in the room was filthy. The beds were awful- springs in the mattress poked us all night long. The neighborhood was lovely and there were a few places to eat nearby as well as the Goodge Street tube stop.

On arrival the first thing I was told was how much i was going to pay! No politenesses like "welcome to the Garth Hotel". The room I got was the smallest I ever had in any hotel! It was like a closet with an attached bathroom. I stayed for 2 nights. My room was not cleaned nor was the bed made. Not to be recommended

The rooms we stayed in on the first night were tiny, not clean and noisy. Rooms like that should not be offered at all. We asked for a change and got "normal", acceptable rooms. They were still quite noisy and ot VERY clean, but at least they had a minimum standard.

Terrible noise from thje traffic outside.Impossible to sleep with open window. Staff could be more friendly. Had to pay deposit for borrowing an adaptor , and when it dissapeared from my room during the next day, I was told I had to pay a new deposit to borrow a new one. The girl turned to be just ok after I told her this was bad service. No deposit return though. The kitchen staff was nice, and the breakfast was good. Would not return because of trafficnoice and bad service experience.

This Hotel is an absolute mess. We arrived at 11am and the first thing we heard from the staff was, that the rooms were not ready jet. Not even a welcome. As we came back later we discovered, that the room was way smaller than on the pictures and the carpet looked like the hotel doesn't own a vacuum cleaner. The bed sheets had already stains on it and instead of one full-size bed we got twin beds. The television was not working and the wifi didn't even reached the first floor. And the noise level of the street was so high, that we couldn't really sleep, even after long walking trips through London. I know other London hotels (which were unfortunately booked this time) and it was a BIG difference. It seemed like the staff didn't care about the feelings of the visitors. I complained about those things but the next time I entered just the cable of the television hung unplugged from the wall. Nothing improved!!! The answer from the (20 yr old) receptionist was, that I should watch tv in the dining room. This hotel is not worth a pence.

Room is extremely small; and choosing a room with bathroom is useless since the bathroom size is very very very small. If your body size is Large or XL, forget it. The hotel need to address the cleanliness of the room right away, the carpet is very dull need to be replaced with new one. Location is however is great in the city centre. You need to be on time for breakfast as they won't service any breakfast after 9.30am. Service is medium to low; the hotel seems to run by university-students that offer standard service. Initial view on the website gave us impression that it's an old & historial hotel but we found it as hotel without a 'soul'(run business as usual) after stay there for 4nights, if you understand what I mean.

Dominant requirements for the hotel were - location and price. So, if you want to be somewhere near Trafalgar Square and don't want to pay much - have in view this hotel...

Considering, it's always difficult to find good budjet accommodation in London, the Garth is very good value also consideing its great location. I booked a twin room with shower with a male colleague and we had a good laugh about this - as there was no separate shower room , just a glass shower door in a quite tiny bedroom. But we got by.

This was a very quaint bed and breakfast. Great location. The service was nice: daily cleaning service; clean showers, although shared throughout the entire building; private sink in the room; very nice breakfast included; coffee and tea facilities within the room; and helpful staff. As I said, though, it is a bed and breakfast. Do not expect a 5 star hotel experience. The rooms were smaller, the furniture older, and it is more of a family run type of business. The highlights of this hotel are the location, the breakfast, and the cleanliness. Overall our stay was very nice.

Cheap and cheerful given the ridiculous price of accomodation in London. No toilet in the rooms just basin and shower so when it says shower only it means it! Noisy from main road at front of hotel but very friendly staff and clean rooms/facilities.

The manager and staff were very welcoming and competent. The full English breakfast was served to order and top quality. It was a little noisy being on a busy street in a highly populated area, but that fact also made it very convenient to the underground and shops. There was a Starbucks nearby, as well as a greengrocer for snacks. We were very satisfied.

Our room was so small and noisy that we checked out an hour after checking in. We would rather pay the first night as a penalty than stay there the four nights.

Possibly the seediest B&B I've ever stayed in. Lock on room door was temperamental, bed was uncomfy, it was noisy all night and I could hear every word (and the rest) that was said in the next room. Room was tiny and no tea/coffee making facilities as promised.

Good B&B, very welcoming person and friendly. Avoid basic rooms, avoid rooms on the street because the windows are old and you hear all noises of the street. Personnal is really welcoming.

The main reason to quote a very low rate is the noise inside the room because of the street. The price may be considered high, since rooms of 3 or 4 stars hotels are available at the same price when reservation is performed sooner.

In general a very nice place, although it was impossible to get our room less hot and the sound of the traffic was going on all night. next time I go for the room that has a door to the garden (why did nobody in the hotel tell us to go and sit there? it is great!).

What counted for us was the central location of the hotel. For that we accepted the price (which might be not even high in comparison with other hotels in the same area) and the considerably small room with shower but without private toilet.

The room was severely cramped and it was demanded of me to pay cash upon entering the front door. I thought the place to be clean and comfortable otherwise.

Perhaps I am not used to London prices, but the Garth seemed a little bit like a high-priced boarding house. Some staff members seemed to have a kind of boarding house mentality, a little like they didn't want to be disturbed with requests from their guests.

A little hotel amongst quiet a few along the road. No indication what the difference was. Old style inside, rooms renovated but somehow 'mixed' together with stuff. Ensuite in a 3 bed-room too small to even dry yourself while having the door closed.
