Great area to stay. Nice surroundings and good access to stations, theatres and shops. The hotel was clean and comfortable - good shower, plenty of cupboard and drawer space, but no chairs and a shortage of sockets. I had to balance the kettle on the bed to reach the only socket. Good freshly-cooked breakfast with no waiting, despite the hotel being full. However, do not have a room in the basement or on the ground floor as it is very noisy. It would help if the wooden stairs were carpeted as the clattering up and down of guests and staff reverberated. They are also steep and unsuitable for elderly or disabled. I would stay there again, but only if the room is above ground level.

First impressions were very good. Although our room was located next to the front door so we were disturbed every time guests entered or left the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, although there as a dirty towel left in the bathroom from a previous guest. Breakfast was traditional English and plentiful.

We stayed at Mentone for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay. Although the room was small, to the U.S. standard, it was clean and quiet. The hotel is located in a quiet and convenient area - a few minute walk to the Eurostar Station, subway station and British Museum. A bicycle docking station is right in front of the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful.

May 2011: I requested a quiet room and got #7, a large room two floors up on the back side of the hotel. Very quiet and roomy! Our travel companions got #29, a large room at the top of the stairs on the street side. They never mentioned excess noise from the street but then we were there in May and did not need windows open at night. Rooms were larger than many we've had in Europe. The breakfast room was crowded but the quality, quantity, selection, and service of food was very nice. Hotel location is nearly equal walking distance between Kings Cross and Russell Square tube stations. Russell Square is less congested but has some nasty steps to climb when pulling luggage. Free Wifi is always a welcome addition when traveling and the hotels worked well for us. Nothing about our stay would keep me from recommending this hotel. However, here's a reminder that they do not advertise an elevator. If you would have difficulty moving your luggage up and down several flights of steep stairs... the highest staircase being very steep, narrow, and with a minimal handrail, then I'd suggest you contact the nice folks at the hotel to assure a ground level room. Or, if you can easily transport your luggage without an elevator.... enjoy :-)

Hello, we were satisfied with the hotel. The surrounding was quiet and a hotel room was clean. But never take basement - it is like a sleeping in a cellar next to a kitchen - it must have been very noisy and smelly.

I stayed 4 days with my mum (begining of September). Very quiet area, only 5 minutes walk from Russel Square. Old stuff in the room but clean. The shower (in the room) was clean and beds alright. At breakfast, if something is not available anymore, just ask, and you'll get it ;o) They're painting the walls, so it's gonna be "almost new" ! I've seen a lot worst in London for the same price ! At least, this hotel is clean and well situated, I think that's a good place to stay.

The staff was very welcoming and informative. I booked a car to take me to the airport after my stay and they checked the night before to confirm the service and then rang my room once the car arrived. The room was small but not unusual for London area. Clean and well kept. A nice Breakfast service in the mornings. Easy location from the Tube or Train stations. I would stay here again and suggest it to others with no hesitation.

The Mentone Hotel is a nice, period property and the staff are efficient and friendly. The inclusive breakfast is a welcome thing for a London hotel. Being an older property, it isn't surprising that you can hear people walking around upstairs. The local area, which is close to Russell Square, is a very pleasant area with a village-type feel about it. Underground stations are a short walk away so you can easily get anyway in London with ease. I would definitely stay at the hotel again.

Better than sleeping on the street, but not much. Single room was the size of a coffin. One aged towel for both bath and hand use. Believe girl at checkout ripped me off a bit by charging my credit card in dollars, instead of pounds, and doing it before asking me my preference. Booked taxi pickup at Stansted through hotel and was charged more than price quoted on hoted Web site. When I mentioned this at reception, I was lectured (practically shouted at) by same girl, about not having my cell phone turned on when the hotel allegedly tried to phone me (12 times) to alert me of the price change. The British just have no concept of a "service industry," so what can you do?

The hotel is very convenient for Euston / Kings Cross stations. Helpful reception staff and easy check in / out. We had a triple room at the front of the hotel on the ground floor. It was clean and well kept with a small toilet / shower room. Lots of noise from the street at night might be a problem if you are a light sleeper. Great English breakfast served in a comfortable dining room. Ideal hotel for a short stay. The night time noise may be a problem for longer trips.

Some difficulties of the hotel included a long wait to check in, and a 4-floor walk-up with small accommodations once we finally got there. The wireless internet was patchy and would work some days and not others. Simon was very helpful and friendly, but one of the other girls at the desk wasn't nearly so.

The Mentone Hotel was clean, conveniently located and for the most part a pleasant place to stay. The main drawback being no elevator (lift). We were on the 4th floor and that was very inconvenient. I am 65 and had a broken arm at the time of our stay. I could not carry luggage so things were inconvenient. The last night of our stay the neighbor came in very late and started hollering for Walter to come here. The breakfast was as promised and a little different than we were expecting but good. If we were given a room on a lower floor I would consider staying there again.

Excellent little hotel in a very central location. Of course the room was tiny but this is central London. My room was clean and looked like it had been freshly repainted. The only thing I could possibly complain about are the paper thin walls. It would be nice to be able to at least whisper in the room without the whole corridor hearing it. Breakfast was good as well.

my mother passed away, I had to leave Devon and never made it to London. Keith Richards had my room cancelled, even though the hotel was very confused by this; they knew that he still had reservations for two rooms, but they cancelled his double and tried to put him in a single. After a long period of confusion, however, he was given a double for he and hisi partner.

the toilet leaked and was stuffed with a towel; w/c floor was always wet. We asked for additional towels upon checking in (there was only one in the room), never received and had to go retrieve one on our own. My partner received some sort of bites from the bed (bed bugs/fleas), and the other guests don't know how to close a door, therefore their room door and hallway door slammed shut at all hours of the day and night. The desk person could never find our booking information and they said that no credit card information had been sent to them by Venere.com, so I had to recharge on another credit card. I just hope that I don't get double billed. This is Keith Richards, not Jan, by the way. I'm the big brother that booked the rooms and paid for them, so this is my experience. My sister's room was a bit cleaner, no leaking w/c and no bites from the bed. However, the confusions at the desk and the constant slamming of doors was a problem for them as well. I will continue to use venere.co, but would not stay at Mentone again. Thanks, Keith

Any way, sceglierei ancora lo stesso albergo se dovessi tornare a Londra.

Our family of (4) arrived as scheduled on the afternoon of 12/21 and were greeted by a new employee, a middle-aged Englishman who was friendly and helpful. On our first morning 12/22 we were served breakfast as promised. However on four subsequent mornings we arrived for breakfast at the scheduled time and were told by a young Eastern European man either, "The staff is still asleep because of a party last night," or "Breakfast has been postponed until 9:30 this morning." On one occasion we arrived at 9:30AM as requested and no one was in evidence. On two of the four mornings we walked to a nearby hotel and were charged 12 Pounds Sterling per person for breakfast (resulting in a 48 Pound charge equalling half our daily bill at the Mentone.) On one of our nights we arrived back at our room to find that it had not been cleaned at all nor had the beds been made. On another occasion no toilet tissue was in evidence in our bathroom, and upon summoning a staff person he and his associates appeared to be intoxicated; he did retrieve the required toilet tissue. We are experienced but not particularly picky travellers, however we definitely won't be staying at the Mentone again, and oddly the Mentone was the first hotel Venere recommended when I initially visited your website.
