Nice place. Good price. A welcoming host who knows everything about Lisboa and its surroundings and he is eager to share it with you. Breakfast a bit "sad" but a lot of cheap Pastelerias around to solve this disadvantage. City center 10mn walk. (just try to avoid rooms on the street a bit noisy)

Some noisy Sut/Sun night - party in the street, but Antonio Macedo was the best landlord during our trip to Portugal and Spain in June 2014. I will recommend all my friends to meet him and stay in Family Macedo. Dr.Antonio Macedo is an exclusive person, it was my wife's and my pleasure to meet him.

Antonio is very helpful getting you going. The #28 trolley is steps away and is better than the on-off bus whose sound system is inadequate. Antonio bills his property as a self service B&B and that means make your own coffee in the morning and get a loaf of white bread out of the freezer and toast it and slather it with butter and jam. You have the option to bring in your own food to prepare in the kitchen. The neighborhood is frequented by the African people who come to the market across the street and have a block party that can go on until 3AM.

I was overall happy during my stay in Family Macedo Self-Catering Apartment. Although, a bit overwhelmed with the frequency of confirming my time of arrival. This was because, as traveling for the first time in Lisboa, I couldn't estimate how many hours before I will be arriving in Lisboa. I took the bus from Madrid and was unsure of how far the Lisboa Bus Station was to the hotel. I was also trying to conserve the battery of my phone. Upon arriving at the Metro stop (Interdente) which was closer to the hotel, it wasn't really difficult to find. If you have an iPhone and don't mind asking people around, the Palmira road is easy to locate. You can ask them to point you to Anjos Church. The main door of the hotel is opposite Anjos Church. The main door is a simple front door similar to what I find along high street apartments. I needed to look check the door numbers as I passed. When I reached the front door, I found the doorbell buttons and one labeled "Family Macedo". We passed a dimly lit road from the Metro Station which made me felt uneasy. Passed a few dumpsters along the way. Better to pass the main road towards Anjos Church than taking Rua Palmira. A couple of convenience stores can be found nearby for a stop of bottled water or toiletries. The housekeeper/receptionist was eager to greet me. She was very friendly and accommodating despite my late arrival of about 9pm. She gave us some directions and tips on how and where to travel in Lisboa. Very much appreciated. She showed us up to the room. Offered two rooms but showed one. We couldn't really bother to ask to see the other room anyway since we were already tired from an 11-hour bus trip. Was happy with the room which was a room away from the office. Room was spacious enough if you really just needed a place to sleep after a long day out. Toilet and bath are shared with other guests. Kitchen and terrace where you can dine are reasonably spacious. Had a very feel-at-home ambience. The apartment fe

Spent the 1st 3 nights of my vacation there, and like it enough to return for the last 3 nights. Good value and the location was very good, but the main attraction was Antonio, the owner. I had never been to Portugal, and he emailed all kinds of excellent information as soon as I booked. And after I arrived, he took the time to sit down with me with maps and more information to help me plan my travels, and he was right on the mark. Also, the young lady who worked there, Danielle, was a delight, and very helpful.

Bathroom is shared but not busy at all. wifi doesn't works very good in higher floor. Overall, a cheerful stay and happy to book again if I will visit Lisbon in future.

Though they say B&B, the breakfast includes only bread (frizen), butter, corn flakes, milk and tea/coffee. I think they shd offer at least some eggs, sausages to make it a reasonable breakfast.

We have a very pleasant stay at the Bed & Breakfast and Mr. Macedo welcomed us in a very warm way. He gave us a lot of useful information, answered our many questions and was really helpful. We found there a spotlessly clean place - room, kitchen and bathroom. The only sometimes difficult thing we experienced was the timing for using the bathroom and the kitchen. We did not get the breakfast on the terrace because of the fresh weather in the morning. We choosed a room with a view to the yard and did not regret it for a second: we spent very quiet nights. An other advantage: the B&B is about 15 minutes with walking distance from Baixa and Chiado and the metro station Intendente is situated exactly after walking down the garden in the front of the house. We really recommand the Bed & Breakfast of Family Macedo.

It was my first time in Lisbon. What struck me was how welcoming Mr Antonio Macedo was, going the extra mile to explain all the things we visit in Lisbon, providing a map and drawing on the map. The furniture of the rooms is very nice, antique. I was offered several rooms to choose from, and still pay the lowest fair I agreed on on the website. At night it becomes cold in Lisbon at this time of the year and the rooms have no heating (but I understand this is generic in Portugal). Yet, inside the bed it was very warm, due to the warm duvet. The breakfast is included and is very basic (milk, bread and butter, self-served for the fridge). This was OK with me, as I do not eat much breakfast anyway. Oeverall I wanted a cheap place to sleep close to the city centre, close to the metro, while also having my own room, not like in a hostel. The bathroom provides towels and hand liquid soap, but not shampoo or shower gel, so you should bring your own or buy it from the local stores for about 2 euros. I will come again to Lisbon the following weekend and I will stay again at Mr Macedo, given these above. He also offered the discounted price I had initially from the website.

Senhor Macedo was most welcoming, even meeting us at the Metro when we phones to say we were lost. The furnishings were excellent, old Portuguese style beds and fittings. Breakfast was basic continental in a rather bare dining room. I would heartily recommend the Family Macedo to visitors to Lisbon.

Situated in walking distance of the city center the Macedo family's place makes you feel at home. The landlord himself is very concerned about your comfort and interest in the city. His advice is always fully reliable and full of kindness. you musn't expect the service of a five star international hotel, but you will find here the best link with Portuguese life and tradition. All the staff are equally kind and helpful.

For Bed&Breakfast/Self-Catering type of accommodation - this is very good place to stay. Clean cozy rooms with high ceilings and large old furniture; 2 bathrooms for about 4 rooms on the floor were quite sufficient. The owner and staff speak English very well which is not always the case in Portugal. The owner provides a very useful list of tips for newcomers regarding sightseeing, beaches and places to eat in Lissabon The only thing that bothered me was that it was very noisy from the street. The hotel is very close to the city centre, so you can reach all the cultural sights and night life places on foot. But! if swimming/sunbathing is a high priority for you - mind that you will have to use underground and then train to get to the nearest beach. It takes about an hour and costs around 5 euro every day.

A very cheap but nice accomodation. I did not expect more that what I have got, so I'm quite satisfied of my stay. As many other said there are many positive points and a few minor negative ones which could be easily fixed to make this a perfect place to stay. Some of the positive: very low price, cleanliness and space of room and shared spaces, use of kitchen (this can make you save a lot of money for eating), and of course the warm welcoming of Antonio and his staff. Negative: I think that the parquet deserves a particular mention, as your room will "sound" each time someone steps in any other room but once you get used to it you will not notice it anymore. Overall a great place to stay in my opinion, but people who like 5-stars comfort will not like it.

I arrived at this hotel, after a bit of questions about the place to walk passers, just as a normal foreign person in town, wanted a short cut. The area, was not far (3 metro stations) from Centre of Baixa Chiado, main tourist attraction of Lisbon. The area actually after couple of days, I found out to be famous with Drug and aocohol hub of Lisbon. But my entire stay was safe and feeling ok to walk in and out, even in the night time. When I arrived to the hotel, Dani, the main Receptionist/Room attendent/cleaner, was very warm and welcoming me to the place. My booking was recognised. Felt welcomed straight away. I was given choice to which room to take as I was early and no one else arrived at that time. I choose the closest to the office, as It was the best internet connection with wifi. But my choice did not live long, as I was asked to move to another room upstairs later in the afternoon by Sabina, Partner of the owner, Antonio, for couple who booked double room. That room was very nice, clean, filled with antique style furnitures, twin single beds, spacious room and ample of cupboard space and drawers for my stuff. Instead, i was moved upstairs, with no cupboard space at all, just hangers and very narrow room, enough to move around. But still, spotless clean, cant fault the cleanliness. Linen are clean, towel provided. Kitchen is the same, spotless clean and tidy. Bathroom: two in the main floor. Pity about the smell on the bigger one. There seemed to be a block of pipe somewhere needs fixing or unblocking. But again, spotless clean. Internet connection: excellent. Staff: Dani, Sabina, Kasha and owner Antonio were all very warm, welcoming and helpful. Downsides (POsitive sides mentioned above): Multiple keys for room, entrance to the floor and main door downstairs The area, you can see many undesireable individuals lurking around, but keep yourself distant from them is always good, not a great worry. Noise: you can hear noise from street morni

Terrific place if you're not too capricious and correctly understand the self-catering part. Rooms have fantastic old portuguese furnishings of carved wood. The owner is very helpful and accommodating, and the staff very friendly. If you are sensitive to street noise, try to get rooms facing the back side of the house or at least not facing the street (but personally I slept great in street-facing ones). Very clean, staff extremely nice, facilities OK, "breakfast" most basic. Location is very convenient and close to everything (metro station in 1-minute walk) but the neighborhood itself is questionable. It is next to a church and a little square with all kinds of unsavory people hanging out (we had no problems with them whatsoever, but have been warned by a cab driver to be careful). All the staff at B&B are extremely nice and helpful. There are many rooms, though, and lots of other travelers you run into because the kitchen is pretty small. When we reached No.44 we found no mention of the Apartment or name. There was no answer to the doorbell so we had to call on mobile phone to get the door opened. There are three floors of apartments with rooms varying from spacious to small - what you get depends on your luck. Dr Antonio Macedo is friendly & affable person but accepts only euros in cash - no credit card please. The place is stashed with "noble Portuguese furniture" so if you stretch you may knock a few precious pieces and pay for it. Kitchen on our floor was small. Breakfast was very basic - enough to survive morning hunger pangs. Clean common toilet/bathroom with suspect plumbing. Creaky floor makes a noise even if you tread gently; likely to keep you awake late. Dark narrow wooden stairs - better have night-vision glasses. The neighbourhood is pretty seedy. Eateries around close early - so don't come in late in the evening without dinner. If you're however adventurous enough there's a decent Pakistani eatery at the end of the road (Rua de Zaire)which stays open till midnight. Frankly, nothing much to come back to.

I stayed at this place for a week. Very Helpful staff. Proficient in English. You should read the house rules when you enter. Nice antique furniture. Gives a taste of the OLD Portuguese houses. Kitchen Ava liable for light cooking. Fridge for storing eatables. Over all very nice place except for the locality behind the church. One way to stay clear off them is approach the hotel from the right side (face towards the entrance). Yes one more imp. tip while coming from the Airport. If you are travelling light take the bus. or if you are taking a taxi come till the roundabout at the bridge then You can get a taxi for Euro 8-10. If you take a cab from the airport it cost Euro 20/-. It did exceed the expectation for the price. Very Environmentally friendly.

After reading a super rating left by travelers from the Czech Republic, we booked our last night in Lisbon at the Macedo Family Residence.Antonio and his staff present a unique opportunity to stay in this incredible Bed & Breakfast. The rooms were beautifully decorated with wooden antiques and we were surprised to see the assortment of breakfast goodies waiting for us in the shared kitchen. You can also explore the garden area and have a chance to meet guests from all over the world, who are also exploring and falling in love with Lisbon...and having a room in this Residence tucked away behind a park/church is the perfect place to let it happen. The building is located close by to several neighborhood restaurants and pastry shops open until late night hours. The Metro and the popular Electrico 28 are also close by.We will definitely book again for our next trip.See you again soon Antonio!!Warm Greetings from the 6am Girls from Prague-Allyn and Simona :):)

I stayed for 4 days at the Self Catering... and my general opinion is very positive, mainly regarding the staff efficiency. The 3 girls in charge were very competent and willing to help and give advice at any point. The room was perfectly clean and ordered, the view fine but i have to admit it was not very quiet cause it faced a street with some traffic The only shortcoming is the shared bathroom, it is only one, and can be busy at times. For all the rest i recommend the hostel, the relationship price and quality is good. I thank all the staff again for their competence.

It`s a very beautiful apartment, and it`s indeed like in the photos. The people are nice there and kind. The main problem is the NOISE! Everything cracks there and the smallest step can be heard. In terms of "noise" between the raillway station and this residence isn`t a great difference. Another problem is the fact that there isn`t any mention about a guesthouse or hotel, so be well informed before about the adress.Once you`ve chosed this place you should have earplugs. I recommend this apartment to be viseted like a museum and to check for something else where to stay.

I couldn't have been more welcomed in Lisbon as I was in this B&B. They have everything ready for us when we arrived and also have offered us a tourist guide, with all sightseeing in Lisbon and surroundings (Caiscais and Sintra). With their help we have seen almost everything in 3 days. Not to mention they have also recommended restaurants and places to go out at night. We have made good friends there. Highly recommend.

We found the Family Macedo to be extremely accommodating and helpful with both welcoming us and providing useful information for sights and restaurants in Lisbon. We were a family of 2 couples and were given a 2 bdrm suite which was private and very comfortable. There was a washer in the suite and a place to hang clothes which was a bonus. Our only complaint was the poor lighting on the stairs - we were on the 3rd floor-walk up. We faced the back so it was quiet. June 2010.

First time in Portugal. First night in Lisbon. And staying at the B@B Family Macedo?Honestly, one the most random and greatest experience in whole Portugal. The staff was so friendly, smiley, nice, easy going and chatting with you about anything. They became our friends in about 50 seconds. Just so cool! :-) Rooms were in a cosy old style. Bathroom was shared with others but both the room and bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was very good for the price. I DEFINITELY do recommend this place. 9.9/10!

It is very convenient. Just 5 mins walk from the metro station. The room was very nice and clean despite using antique furnitures. It was very comfortable and the feeling is like staying at a friend's home. Good breakfast even you have to make it yourself. The owner, Antonio is very helpful and kind to us. He even wake up early in the morning at 5am to make sure our cab to the airport arrive on time on our last day. The accomodation was perfect except that the room was very noisy at night - noise from upstairs children running around the wooden floor.

Not appealing from the outside and not obvious from the road. Walked passed it twice before we identified it. Once inside loved the place. Lots of old world charm.

A delightful stay, if slightly unconventional. The owner was welcoming, helpful and gave us excellent advice for our onward journey to the Algarve and on the local area. The noise of the local city centre "culture" apart (we live deep in the country!), a delightful stay

The best part of our stay in the place was the opportunity to talk to the owner and listen to his advice on things worth seeing in Lisbon and Portugal. We made a good use of this knowledge and had unforgettable time in Portugal (avoiding most of the first-timer errors). The place is very nice, equipped with classic (and classy) furniture (which is an attraction of its own) and the air of old times (including a bit of old-time space standards). We would certainly choose it again, even if the other choice was a free room in a five star hotel.

Hotel Macedo is the ideal accommodation for couples, for a sweet romantic get away. The rooms are beautifully furnished, spotless and spacious. On arrival I was shown around all the available rooms and offered a choice. As a single traveller I had a double bed in a large room. The communal spaces (ie kitchen and bathroom)were also comfortable and well kitted out. It will be on my recommends...

very genial and helpful host, spotlessly clean, highly recommended. shared bathroom wasn't a problem. Lisbon can be a bit edgy so best to take a taxi late at night as there are a few dodgy areas near the centre!

It's a very special place. Old precious furniture, which are partly quite noisy, if you turn around in bed. Also wooden floor is partly very noisy. But it's the sound of an old house. Don't go there if your nerves are very tide.
