Hello, I was there in the winter and the only bad point I would say was the gas heater. I have to admit I was a bit anxious about the gas bottles which are used for the heater and having it all night on in the corridor. For the rest the owner is very sympathetic and welcoming, the place is really very, very clean. The old authentic furniture gives it a special original touch.

Very clean, staff extremely nice, facilities OK, "breakfast" most basic. Location is very convenient and close to everything (metro station in 1-minute walk) but the neighborhood itself is questionable. It is next to a church and a little square with all kinds of unsavory people hanging out (we had no problems with them whatsoever, but have been warned by a cab driver to be careful). All the staff at B&B are extremely nice and helpful. There are many rooms, though, and lots of other travelers you run into because the kitchen is pretty small. Overall, it's a very good choice for the money if you know what to expect.

The place was easy enough to find, although the area is not very great. The B&B itself is quite safe. It is filled with antique furniture and the staff was very helpful. We were also given pointers on places to visit, and bus information.

Staying at this B&B was a treat. Antonio gave us a very warm welcome when we arrived. He showed us all the rooms and told us everything about all the antique furniture. Because we were the only guests we could choose our room. Antonio gave us all kinds of tips about restaurants in the area and trips in Lisboa and Sintra. The fact that we had to leave one day earlier due to a trainstrike was no problem. Thank You Antonio, you made our stay in Lisboa extra special! (by the way the cookies were lovely!)

This place is spectacular is like sleeping in a palace and enjoy the luxury of the portuguese empire, with furniture and antiques with over three hundred years old. Near the city center of Lisbon - beautiful and multicultural city. Very friendly staff, clean and welcoming, it was a wonderful experience, I recommend this place to everyone.

It was our first stay at B&B Family Macedo. The exact location of the property was very difficult to find. Also there was no clear indication at the front door. We could not go WiFi in the room and had to go downstairs to the kitchen for internet. Apart from this, the owner and staff were very helpful and nice.

When we reached No.44 we found no mention of the Apartment or name. There was no answer to the doorbell so we had to call on mobile phone to get the door opened. There are three floors of apartments with rooms varying from spacious to small - what you get depends on your luck. Dr Antonio Macedo is friendly & affable person but accepts only euros in cash - no credit card please. The place is stashed with "noble Portuguese furniture" so if you stretch you may knock a few precious pieces and pay for it. Kitchen on our floor was small. Breakfast was very basic - enough to survive morning hunger pangs. Clean common toilet/bathroom with suspect plumbing. Creaky floor makes a noise even if you tread gently; likely to keep you awake late. Dark narrow wooden stairs - better have night-vision glasses. The neighbourhood is pretty seedy. Eateries around close early - so don't come in late in the evening without dinner. If you're however adventurous enough there's a decent Pakistani eatery at the end of the road (Rua de Zaire)which stays open till midnight. Frankly, nothing much to come back to.

I stayed at this place for a week. Very Helpful staff. Proficient in English. You should read the house rules when you enter. Nice antique furniture. Gives a taste of the OLD Portuguese houses. Kitchen Ava liable for light cooking. Fridge for storing eatables. Over all very nice place except for the locality behind the church. One way to stay clear off them is approach the hotel from the right side (face towards the entrance). Yes one more imp. tip while coming from the Airport. If you are travelling light take the bus. or if you are taking a taxi come till the roundabout at the bridge then You can get a taxi for Euro 8-10. If you take a cab from the airport it cost Euro 20/-. It did exceed the expectation for the price. Very Environmentally friendly.

(+) Family Macedo hotel is a unique experience - you live in real old Portuguese house with noble furniture, azulejzos in the bathroom and very friendly host - senior Macedo. Good location - just 2 minutes to metro, close to everywhere. (-) The walls are thin and you can hear your neighbours quite well. The bathrooms are shared. The rooms are cleaned on request only. Overall - reasonable quality and very interesting experience for low price.

After reading a super rating left by travelers from the Czech Republic, we booked our last night in Lisbon at the Macedo Family Residence.Antonio and his staff present a unique opportunity to stay in this incredible Bed & Breakfast. The rooms were beautifully decorated with wooden antiques and we were surprised to see the assortment of breakfast goodies waiting for us in the shared kitchen. You can also explore the garden area and have a chance to meet guests from all over the world, who are also exploring and falling in love with Lisbon...and having a room in this Residence tucked away behind a park/church is the perfect place to let it happen. The building is located close by to several neighborhood restaurants and pastry shops open until late night hours. The Metro and the popular Electrico 28 are also close by.We will definitely book again for our next trip.See you again soon Antonio!!Warm Greetings from the 6am Girls from Prague-Allyn and Simona :):)

I stayed for 4 days at the Self Catering... and my general opinion is very positive, mainly regarding the staff efficiency. The 3 girls in charge were very competent and willing to help and give advice at any point. The room was perfectly clean and ordered, the view fine but i have to admit it was not very quiet cause it faced a street with some traffic The only shortcoming is the shared bathroom, it is only one, and can be busy at times. For all the rest i recommend the hostel, the relationship price and quality is good. I thank all the staff again for their competence.

It`s a very beautiful apartment, and it`s indeed like in the photos. The people are nice there and kind. The main problem is the NOISE! Everything cracks there and the smallest step can be heard. In terms of "noise" between the raillway station and this residence isn`t a great difference. Another problem is the fact that there isn`t any mention about a guesthouse or hotel, so be well informed before about the adress.Once you`ve chosed this place you should have earplugs. I recommend this apartment to be viseted like a museum and to check for something else where to stay.

I couldn't have been more welcomed in Lisbon as I was in this B&B. They have everything ready for us when we arrived and also have offered us a tourist guide, with all sightseeing in Lisbon and surroundings (Caiscais and Sintra). With their help we have seen almost everything in 3 days. Not to mention they have also recommended restaurants and places to go out at night. We have made good friends there. Highly recommend.

We found the Family Macedo to be extremely accommodating and helpful with both welcoming us and providing useful information for sights and restaurants in Lisbon. We were a family of 2 couples and were given a 2 bdrm suite which was private and very comfortable. There was a washer in the suite and a place to hang clothes which was a bonus. Our only complaint was the poor lighting on the stairs - we were on the 3rd floor-walk up. We faced the back so it was quiet. June 2010.

First time in Portugal. First night in Lisbon. And staying at the B@B Family Macedo?Honestly, one the most random and greatest experience in whole Portugal. The staff was so friendly, smiley, nice, easy going and chatting with you about anything. They became our friends in about 50 seconds. Just so cool! :-) Rooms were in a cosy old style. Bathroom was shared with others but both the room and bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was very good for the price. I DEFINITELY do recommend this place. 9.9/10!

It is very convenient. Just 5 mins walk from the metro station. The room was very nice and clean despite using antique furnitures. It was very comfortable and the feeling is like staying at a friend's home. Good breakfast even you have to make it yourself. The owner, Antonio is very helpful and kind to us. He even wake up early in the morning at 5am to make sure our cab to the airport arrive on time on our last day. The accomodation was perfect except that the room was very noisy at night - noise from upstairs children running around the wooden floor.

The best part of our stay in the place was the opportunity to talk to the owner and listen to his advice on things worth seeing in Lisbon and Portugal. We made a good use of this knowledge and had unforgettable time in Portugal (avoiding most of the first-timer errors). The place is very nice, equipped with classic (and classy) furniture (which is an attraction of its own) and the air of old times (including a bit of old-time space standards). We would certainly choose it again, even if the other choice was a free room in a five star hotel.

Hotel Macedo is the ideal accommodation for couples, for a sweet romantic get away. The rooms are beautifully furnished, spotless and spacious. On arrival I was shown around all the available rooms and offered a choice. As a single traveller I had a double bed in a large room. The communal spaces (ie kitchen and bathroom)were also comfortable and well kitted out. It will be on my recommends...
