Hotel Stratos House - Kalavasos

Cyprus was a bit surprising to us, many areas over-run by somewhat boorish ex-pats wanting their home-style fare, so sometimes hard to find true Cypriot culture and hospitality. Therefore Kalavassos is a true "find"...it is very attractive and has a small village feel. The locals make you most welcome. To see Cyprus properly you need to rent a car, therefore Kalavassos is quite well positioned being roughly halfway between Larnaca and Limassol. This means most parts of the island are equally accessible. The Owners could not have been more welcoming, and throughout our stay were available but not intrusive, and frequently we discovered little plates of local delicacies had been left for us to sample. Very nice. The property itself is fascinating, being about 300 years old. Our accommodation was a good sized bedroom area, quite a large kitchen/meals area and of course bathroom. We also had sole use of the quite large and attractive courtyard area (part undercover, part open) The only suggestion I would offer is to improve the shower which took quite a while to work out how to use properly and was very small. (But to be fair we've found this is often the case in parts of Europe and also Cyprus apparently has a severe water supply problem). Bottom line: we would highly recommend Stratos House (especially over hotel chains!!)
