We are a family 2 adults and 2 children, 8 & 5 years old, and it was our first time to Chianti, visited end of Oct'09. It was just fantastic. Our stay at Rocca di Castagnoli was so relaxing and pleasant, Joe and Max at reception were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the wine tour and tasting at Castagnoli, and also visiting local restaurants. There are many places of interest to visit and the scenery is just magnificent. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment, with a kitchen and living area so was ideal for us with young children. It was very comfortable and well equipped. We had a great 3 day break.

The hotel is lovely, the pictures do not do it justice. We stayed in one of the double rooms that share a public living room & kitchen, since few people were there due to low season, we had the entire area to ourselves. The rooms are large, well heated, very clean, and beautiful views. Max met us with a glass of wine, and gave great advice on restaurants to visit, we took both his recommendations and they were excellent. We hope to return when it's warmer so we can enjoy the pool!

We enjoyed our stay at the rocca and will certainly visit again.The only downside were the murals in the breakfast room which were very unattractive and disturbing and not appropriate to the otherwise lovely room.

Wonderful place. Nice rooms(apartments),beautiful surroundings and an excellent pool area. Staff extremely friendly, helpful and competent (and fluent in English!). Googlemaps (search "Castagnoli, Gaiole in Chianti") produces a map with location, itinerary and road description for the trip - but it would have been nice if that was available on the webpages. We will be back!

My wife and I had a wonderful experience staying here. We had a rental car (an absolute must) and spent our days driving all around Tuscany. Joe and Max (managers of the wine shop/B&B receptionists) were friendly and extremly helpful. They are both very knowledgable about the whole Tuscany region and gave us many options of driving routes and times that really maximized our enjoyment of the region. Max took the time to give us a personal tour of the winery which was most enjoyable. The breakfast was very nicely laid out and quite good (by Italian standards). The ladies who serve the breakfast were very pleasant any quick to make and bring cappuccinos to the table. We spent 3.5 weeks in Italy and were in 6 different accomadations. Overall, Tuscany was our favorite region in Italy and the accomadation and staff at "Rocca di Castagnoli" were a big part of that. Sincerly, Chris

We stayed Rocca di Castagnoli 17-21 April 2008 with two small children ( 1 and 3 years old). We requested an apartment and they gave us beautiful old and large room with modern facility/great bath and shower. We were able to relax in spa bath after long drive and walking around which was really nice and kids really loved it too. They also had BBQ place with beautiful view of Tuscan hills and Kitchen was fully equipped so we were also able to make some dish using the local products which was very nice. Max and his Belgium ex-journalist co-worker spoke perfect English and were very helpful. Max sat down and marked all the important sites in the area to make sure we wound not miss anything and his co-worker gave us very nice wine tasting experience. Not only the Tuscan air and view but local people/food made our trip one of the best one ever. I highly recommended Rocca di Castagnoli for anyone who loves travelling.
