The staff is competent and overworked, but very cheerful nonetheless. Due to the recent change in traffic in Florence (about 47 streets were made into pedestrian areas only with very limited automotive traffic permitted), it was a little harder to get a taxi to and from the Soggiorno, but it meant that there was far less traffic to listen to o the street. If you want a room with air conditioning, just ask for it - they may be able to shuffle rooms around like they did for us. Best of all: breakfast voucher for the bar just two doors down. I have never had a better cornetto! I would absolutely go back again, and I recommend it sincerely. Once before, some friends of mine and I tried to get a place to stay there (without a reservation) and even though the Pitti was full, the man at the desk made a call and got us accommodations at a nearby soggiorno.

My husband and I were very dissappointed with this hotel and its facilities. The room was shabby the whole hotel was shabby. We moved out after our first night to another hotel and for only 35 euros more had a wonderful room in the same location with lovely staff and restauant and bar facilities. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Bottom line, nice people, very clean room but totally unable to sleep because of pigeon noise, heat!!!!, lack of AC or fans and structure of hotel which guarantted stiffling room, biting insects and either noisy street traffic or noisy pigeon roosting in very heavily occupied courtyard. We all had ear plugs and even they could not block out the pigeon noise. I cannot reccomd this hotel to anyone because of the above and the cost as well. We had 2 rooms. a quad without bath and a triple without bath. $300 USD for both for one night. The rooms were tiny and the quad beds were 4 tiny twins on cheap frames that creaked all night. No fan (we asked) and no breeze from the courtyard- but lots of mosquitos and noise. One room had ceiling fan and TV- but neither worked! The pigeons in the courtyard kept it up all night and we had to sleep with our door open (in a public hotel) because our room was so stiffling and it was the only way to get a breeze. The breakfast is set out at a certain time in a reception room. They did not have enough of each item for all the people who were eating- there was a nice coffee machine and unlimited coffee and coco for kids. Bottom line- if you can't sleep it's not worth anything. This hotel cost too much to not even offer fans and to run out of food.

No shuttle bus service from the station as they had promised. It's basically a big apartment used as an hotel, so the rooms aren't really modern, there was no shower plate in the toilet (very unhygienic) and the walls were thin, I could hear other rooms talking. Plus people made a lot of noise with the keys as they got back. At breakfast there wasn't much to eat, there wasn't even fresh coffee but a coffee automated machine. Yuck. No air conditioning in rooms, no fan. And they were working in the apartment underneath, so they woke me up at 8. I wouldn't recommend this place in summer at all, cause Florence is really hot.

We had a double and a triple room--the double was on the main street and VERY loud. The triple was quieter in the back, but noise from hallway was still loud. Breakfast nothing great, elevator was extremely small. Location was good for Pitti Palace, Ponte Vecchio and Ufizi Gallery. A little further to Duomo, but still within walking distance.

Really close to the city center, almost everything in Florence becomes within walking distance. Easy to find - the door is exactly opposite the entrance to Pitti Palace. If you came by car - additional 22 euro per night would apply (actaully depends on how big is your car - could be from 19 up to 30-35 euro). Spent there three nights - breakfast was really basic :-) - but coffee is good as always in Italy. Lift is fantastic - never seen that kind before - for two persons maximum, and fun to use - with the key and all that manual duble-doors.

We had a delightfully spacious room at the Soggiorno Pitti. Firenze is a great city to tour around on foot and the Soggiorno Pitti has a great location for that - close to everything.

The hotel entrance is via an old, large wooden door into a very dingy entrance. The lift to the third floor where the hotel starts is an old gated type and incredibly narrow. The owner took us up to the top floor to our room, basically a garret. There were no lights on in the corridor and he had a job getting them to work. Got into our room to find a square, basic room with no bathroom. A ceiling fan had been fitted but we couldn't get the switch to work. The window looked down to a central drainage well that smelt of sewage slightly and we could hear something? moving down there at night. Only two of the wall sockets in the room (out of four) worked and the TV had just four channels and no remote to programme anymore or change channels. According to the hotel description the rooms had painted ceilings. Ours had a trainer print on it along with a squashed fly! We did see a cleaner a couple of times but the marble type floor was never clean and walking around in bare feet left your feet dirty. We had four towels on the first day and just one by the time we left. Breakfasts were shockingly bad with lukewarm self serve coffee, packets of those hard toast things with jam, a slice of cake that was the same each day and a glass of, admittedly, nice fresh orange juice. Talking to other guests they said their rooms did have the painted ceilings and were completely charming. They had air con and a TV with remote and full Sky. We never saw our neighbours for their cooments. One couple had booked their room a week previously while we had booked in March so I felt that we had been given a very raw deal. The only thing the hotel has going for it is the close proximity to the city centre being just a few hundred yards from the Ponte Vecchio.

Excelent hotel, especially for this price. The rooms are very large, and well furnished. The shared bathroom was so clean at all times, that I wondered if anybody else uses it. You can hardly find a better location, too. I would return to this hotel, it was really very good.

We absolutely loved our stay at Soggiorno Pitti. We got married from this hotel and it will always remain special for us. The staff were invaluable in helping us with our arrangements. The room was delightful - very spacious with a beautiful painted ceiling. The only criticism was that the breakfasts got a bit monotonous. The location is superb. I certainly recommend this charming hotel to others.

Budget accomodation. Good central location, however difficult to find if attempting to drive to the door! Web page indicated an arrangement with nearby garage. This infact was a small garage a few streets away which was full when we arrived. Although not air conditioned, electric fan was NOT available (on request) as stated. So for busy periods during Summer not ideal for parking and very hot! Breakfast disappointing, dry pre-packed toast. Juice and vending machine coffee (self-service). Overall staff friendly and good place if you are on a tight budget.

A quaint mix of charm and aggravation. The room was excellent in location, size and decor. The fresco on the ceiling with its tropical foliage and birds was particularly charming. The photos on the website do not do the room justice. The private bathroom seemed very clean, but was obviously added to this older building as an afterthought and there was a smell of human waste that we could not place (whether it emanated from improper venting or from some unclean corner of the room... a thorough soaking with chlorine might help. We swabbed the floor and wall tiles with alcohol and found no dirt on the white paper towels -- but the odor persisted.) The elevator is a tiny antique, but at these rates and at that location one cannot expect the Savoy. The "breakfast" is minimal -- but they do not advertise that it is provided -- it is actually a rather gracious courtesy on their part. One thing that must change, though, is that modern travelers expect a change in at least the bath linens and towels (if not the bed linens) daily. Also, perhaps when the owners accumulate some more capital, they might consider refinishing the flooring. It presently does not invite barefoot (or even stockinged) comfort. The location, directly across the main entrance to the Palazzo Pitti and Boboli Gardens, is excelled only by the grand luxe hotels on the Arno.

The room & (shared) bathroom were very clean. No smell. No noise. No soap & towels either initially - I had to ask for them, and landlady was very apologetic. Beds were small singles and very firm. Shower was hot (good). Landlady pleasant & lived on site. Lift started at ground floor (good!). Clear street numbers meant it was very easy to find in the daytime opposite the Palazzo Pitti. Supermarket 500m down the street was useful. We'd stay there again.

We had not visted Florence before, but I am very glad that we chose this hotel for our first visit, and would definitely stay there again. We chose it from one reviewer's whimsical description of the lift, which was as it turned out entirely accurate. ( large enough to fit 2 emaciated travellers). I have never seen such a small, cute, lift! We had a pleasnt welcome, despite arriving at 1.15 am, and our room was lovely and spacious with a clean bathroom. Shower was a bit luke warm at times. If you like a hearty breakfast then this could be a disappointment, as you just get packet toast and jam, and a slice of pie. However, tea and coffee are unlimited. The very best thing about this hotel was the location. It is directly opposite the Pitti Palace, and only 5 mins walk from the Ponte Vecchio. In fact you could briskly walk from the hotel to the duomo in under 15 mins. Just a note, if like us, you arrive in the early hours, then you are faced with two huge wooden doors, and a brass nameplate on the wall. Ring the bell, and then the doors will magically open, as will the big iron gates inside. But in your tired travelling state, remember that the hotel starts three floors up, and the 1st two floors are apartments. As you get out of the lift on the 3rd floor, the hotel door faces you. A lovely, friendly, clean, family hotel, which is convenient for all the sights and sounds of Firenze.

This little hotel gave everything it promised. Really brilliant location with easy access to all the different aeas of the City. Nice, very large and comfortable room, friendly service. Minor niggles - poor breakfast, gloomy view of a facing wall from our room and the oddest (and tiniest!) lift I have ever come across. Otherwise made for a really great 4-day stay in this amazing City.

The position was excellent - 40 metres from the Palatino Gallery, a short walk from the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi. A bus passes the door. The San Spirito area has a 'left bank' feel - cafes and restaurants in leafy squares. The hotel is on the 3rd and 4th floor of an old building, and caused us some initial problems with access, once we'd found the address. But we soon got used to the system of locked gates and a lift suitable for no more than 2 emaciated travellers (we learnt to shuffle out backwards). It's a family-run business and very friendly. Our room was large and basic and noisy, with an interesting view of the Palazzo Pitti. It was clean, and the bed was comfortable. You could lie on it and enjoy the lovely painted ceiling. Breakfast wasn't brilliant - pre-packed croissants and cakes. Overall, we'd recommend it for position, room and price. Don't expect frills.
