Hotel Reviews Soggiorno La Cupola
France, Oct 2009
The hotel is located in the heart of Firenze, you can see the Duomo from the window. The Lady from the staff didn't speak a word in english bur she was very nice and tried to be as helpfull as can be. The towels in Firenze are actualy white sheets and the shower was extremly small. It was a nightmare to arrive with a car though they have a parking lot nearby for 24 euros for 24 hours. The hotel is located on the 3rd floor, no elevator. The breakfast is not served in the hotel but near by and it is very poor (Croissant, coffe, juice).

The roof top is well worth the stay....With no air conditioner and the windows open it is not quiet. Bring ear plugs. Still the rooftop view is to die for.

Einziger Wehmutstropfen: empfindliche Schlafer sollten Ohorpax mitbringen!

I booked 3 nights but when we arrived at this hotel, staff told us that our room was available for two nights only. The last one would be done in another hotel ! After 2 nights we had to organize the transfer from one hotel to the next one by ourselves. (nobody contacted us and we had to phone to know how) Otherwise, good price regarding to the location in Florence.

I was given a quote of 78.00 euro per night for 3 nights by venere for the Soggiorno La Cupola double room. I was charged 91.0 euro per night upon arrival. We were tired after traveling overseas and decided to stay rather than search for a hotel so late in the afternoon. The hotel said the 78.00 euro was just for reserving and then proceeded to tell us we had to pay cash because their credit card machine was broken. At that time, I was so frustrated and wouldn't recommend this hotel for others.

This is a bad place - don't go here. The lights were 7 watts and so low we could not read by them. The bus lines run all around the building making it very noisy. The toilet smelled like septic fumes. The shower leaked. We paid for a second night but changed out mind after a horrible first night and the manager would not refund payment. It was the low point of our visit in Italy.

Our first time in Florence. Room adequate though small and rather dark. Very noisy when window open due to location. Excellent roof terrace with fantastic view over rooftops to duomo, tower and cupola etc (as long as you don't mind the stairs to get there!) We were unable to pay by credit card as they claimed their machine was not working which gave us a slight cash flow problem. Some restaurants claimed the same problem....

Great view and great terrace!!!!!!! The front desk didn't want to give the promised bottle of wine, but did when asked for it. It was the perfect place to stay with friends (we took over 3 of the rooms). The B&B only has 6 rooms so you feel like you own the place. There is no elevator, so you must climb the steps (not a long haul though). Breakfast is not in the B&B itself. You must go across the street, but the breakfast is very good. Included croissant, coffee and juice. The location is prime. Very close to the train station and the duomo. The staff does not speak English, so it was a bit tough to communicate. Overall, enjoyed the stay and would recommend.

There are nice pictures of a nice and great room on the internet, but our room was very small and too expensive. Breakfast is in a bar around the corner with one coffee and a small bread. The waiter was very unfriendly. The room was really too expensive for what we got. I forgot, the towels are thin like paper and the shower is awful and small und ugly.

Rooms were large enough, but the bathroom was very smelly and dirty. A slight noise in the adjacent rooms was enough to keep us wide awake for the entire night. Host was cordial but she didnt know any English to communicate. Breakfast was arranged at a nearby coffee shop which was not sufficient enough.

The price is low considering that the BeB is very central in Florence, but in the room you can hear people speaking outside your door. Pricacy is not guaranted... The bathroom is very very small and without the bidet. Anyway the position is excellent.

Very close to train station and Duomo! Be prepared to walk up stairs with your luggage. The lady who greated us spoke NO english but we finally got checked in. Room was clean but very small. And bathroom/shower tiny. We LOVED the terrace at night and we were given a bottle of Chianti to enjoy the view with. Great location.

The location was great. Easy to reach from the train station, and the tourist sites. The staff was friendly eventhough their English was not strong. A very nice touch was the bottle of wine we received when we arrived. Also the breakfast at their appointed restaurant was good. The only downside was the number of steps to get to the flat where the rooms were located.

Excellent location, very close to railway station, but it was hard to find this place. Noone explained us a bout terrace on top of the building. Thanks to other travellers who left this info, we had a lovely dinner one evening there. Before coming to Florence a day earlier we e-mailed the owner, but he never replied, it was also hard to catch him on the phone, we also never met him. we got the biggest room with the view, that was good. The lady greeted us was very friendly, though didnt speak English at all. This place is not Bed&Breakfast. We had to go to another bar cross the road to get a terrible breakfast we ever had: nice coffee, croissant, juice - basicaly 3 items, no jam, butter or chocolate. I think 110 Euros is a little bit expensive for the room and no breakfast. I wouldnt stay in this place next time, try to find something better.

Soggiorno La Cupola was the breath of fresh air we needed while travelling in Europe. Of all the places we stayed, nothing compared to this wonderful B & B. It was a home away from home. There is a rooftop balcony that stares right at the Duomo! And when you get your free bottle of red wine, waste no time in going up there to drink it. The location is all you can ask for: 5 min walk from the main train station, 5 min walk from the Duomo, right in the heart of downtown Florence. The staff were very helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable. We are looking forward to the next visit to both Florence and Soggiorno La Cupola. Don't hesitate when booking this room! Thank you Antonio!

There was confusion with our registration upon check-in, which was sorted out with the housekeeper (speaks only Italian). The owner provided us with a bottle of wine - nice touch, thank you. The rooftop balcony has an excellent view. The convenient location of this B&B also boosts my rating higher. The bathroom was not enjoyable. Somewhat clean, but it was built into a bedroom as an afterthought. The shower was tiny and rusting around the edges - not very pleasant. The housekeeper knocked on our door 15 minutes before departure time with cleaning equipment in tow, and basically rushed us out. We did not bother with breakfast, which was being served at a nearby bar/cafe. The noise level was regular considering the B&B is located on the main street. Unfortunately, the townhouse (?) unit immediately next door was undergoing facade improvement, so a crew of construction workers hammered on the exterior walls during the night. There is a problem with one of the locks. We almost thought we were locked out, but we jiggled the key around for a few minutes while twisting the door knob and it eventually worked. Other travellers obviously had this problem as well, as they also banged on the front door and jingled their keys to try to get in.

We stayed in the large room pictured in the website - view was amazing in real life as in the pictures! Roof top view also amazing! Very welcoming and helpful staff. Overall was a nice place to stay - very cheap considering it is a 2min walk to the Duomo (Main Cathedral). Room was clean although the 'bathroom' was a bit mouldy smelling! The staff is only there between 9am in the morning to about 2pm, after that you are left on your own - you are given front door key as well as room key - if you lose your keys there is no one to help you get back in!!

It is at teh heart of the city. Thats the only thing we liked. Rooms are dark and not welcoming. Also, to reach the rooms, you have to climb a number of stairs, so, it is really difficult for old people and family travelling with kids. I dont remember reading any such information on the site. No English speaking staff. This is was the worst stay we had in our whole trip in italy. I will definitely won't come back and wont recommend it. Also, you won't even get some drinking water in teh property. So, if you are travelling with small kids, it is very difficult.

We were on vacation with Jennifer's two adult sons. We stayed two nights and wished we could stay longer. The city and the surrounding Tuscany area was astoundingly beautiful and so historic. The manager of La Cupola was most gracious, presenting us with two bottles of wine, which we happily drank on the rooftop terrace. We LOVED the rooftop terrace. The hotel is a very short distance from The Santa Maria Novella train station, and is next to practically everything in Florence. We walked everywhere, no need for a vehicle. The only wish we had was for a better map, so we could have found the street for the hotel more easily. The train station has many streets radiating from it and around it. Since there is no elevator, and the rooms are up three flights of stairs, one should consider that.

The quadrable room was very tiny, with old and tiny bath. The noise from the street was terrible during all the night! No air conditioning. The breakfast in a caffe at the corner included coffe and cruassons probably from yestarday. The owner thinks that he can raise the price for a nice view of the Duomo from the window. There is no any corresponding between the service and the price. And in the distance of 5 meter, at the same street, we have found much better hotel for the cheaper price!

********* I will never forget the warm reception of the manager as well as the perfect location of the hotel (between the train station and "Il duomo"), the view on Il Duomo is better than shown on the pictures! I will definitely go back to this hotel!!! Be careful by the fact that you reach the front desk after climbings several steps of stairs.

The website only shows one room, we did not get that room. Our room was smaller than the room shown but adequate. The location was excellent, halfway between the Duomo and the rail station SMN. The bathroom was a pre-fabricated box in the corner of the room; it had the smallest shower I have ever used. While there were double windows they were not sufficient to stop all the noise. There was not a lot of noise but it was noticeable. The three flights of stairs can be a little tough when carrying luggage. I paid 75 euro a night. For that price a clean room in a good location in Florence is a bargain. The Management was friendly and pointed out that there was a common bathroom available that was much larger than the one in my room.

I loved staying at this B&B. The first two nights we stayed in a pretty small little room, with just two twin beds pushed together, a closet, and a very tiny bathroom, with a window that opened into the street. The room was quaint and we never had any noise problems from the street below. On the third night, the room with the view of the Duomo and the street leading to it was available, so he allowed us to stay in that much, much larger room at the same rate, which was a lovely treat. The rooftop terrace made for an extremely romantic evening with a bottle of wine, and I would recommend everyone hang out there after a fun night out, to rewind and get some perspective. I would definitely recommend this hotel for it's great location, relatively quiet accomodations (any place in Italy will have pretty thin walls and be adjacent to an alleyway), and a great value. Some of the best money I spent on my trip to Italy.

This was a great place to stay in Florence... Fantastic location, friendly and competent host, comfortable bed at a good price. The location was perfect - just down the street from the Duomo. The breakfast was a little disappointing - you get a pass to a cafe around the corner and get just a coffee and pastry. My room had a window looking out over the street but even with lots of traffic, it was still very quiet. There's not really any common area so it's better if you're just looking for a room and place to keep your stuff while you tour Florence. The roof-top terrace does have a beautiful view of Florence and the Duomo.

The first night we were in the spacious corner room with the circular window looking up the street towards the Duomo. This is the one in the pictures. This has a comfortable bed. The other three nights we were in a much smaller room next door with a very uncomfortable bed and a bathroom in need of repair. This spoilt our stay there even though the staff were extremely helpful at trying to help make our stay. Stay if you can spend the time in the big room, look elsewhere if not. The hotel is very well paced near the station and all the sights. A tip for Florence is do not ever think of eating from the tourist menu in any restaurants. The food might have Italian names but that is where the resemblance ends.

The goods are strategic location near the duomo and train station, very nice and kind manager, very very best service provided, the room and bathroom was clean but really tiny... =) You will find a lot of good unexpected surprises over there. The bads are very noisy at nite fr the street and it is on the third floor of the building and no lift or escalator whatsoever. The building is old but acceptable since it is clean inside. So as long as you dont mind w the bads... then You are having the best place hotel in Florence w a decent price for such good service.

Great place to stay, basic rooms but comfortable, small bathroom but all you need, there is a large bathroom shared by all if you really needed room. Those of a larger disposition may struggle to fit in the small shower cubicle. Nice welcoming with a nice bottle of wine, and and an offer to buy it cheap at reception. Not for the visitor who requires 24hr attention. The view from the terrace was spectacular. Price was great for location, would definitely recommend. There are stairs as in all of Italy so not for elderly or disabled. Was initially a bit tricky to find due to the dual street numbering system in Italy, 1 for business and 1 for private. Breakfast was basic but that is how they do it in Italy....when in Rome!

The Bed and Breakfast was great. It was close to the train station and the Duomo. Everything was close by. The views from the terrace on top were wonderful. Antonio's gift of a bottle of wine added to the experience. It is up two flights of steps, but that was clearly stated in the information online. We were worried that it would be noisy at night. Once the windows and shutters were closed, you didn't hear a sound. The breakfast was typically Italian and the little cafe was nice.

This was a very nice place, located halfway between the train station and Il Duomo. The clerk, Antonio, was very welcoming, and he even gave my wife and I a bottle of red wine. It was unbearably hot in Florence during our stay, hitting 40 celsius (105 Fahrenheit), which made our room hot too, despite the fan. If we were to go back here, we would opt for the common-area bathroom, as our in-room bathroom made the room even hotter. Otherwise, it was a very nice place and we were quite happy with it. The baclony had an excellent view of the cathedral and the surrounding countryside.

It is worth staying at this bnb just for the view from the roof terrace - day and night. We arrived and were greeted with a bottle of wine to enjoy on the roof terrace, then bought our own wine to enjoy up there every night after that. The location is perfect-just round the corner from the station and near all the main attractions. Rooms are basic but have everything you need. We will go back!

The location is great and the view on the dome from the terrace. It is a very good choice for those who don't mind a microscopic bathroom. We got the room on the corner for 4 people and it was great but I am not sure about the others. I saw that even the shared bathrooms were very clean. The owner is very kind and gives useful information. Overall for us everything was fine with staying one night without taking shower.

Conveniently located close to the city centre and close to the train and bus station. Entrance was up two flights of stairs (no lift). Room was small but adequate, clean, and with compact but good standard bathroom en-suite. Complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Good value for money.

It was the most amazing location. A wonderful host, and I honestly could not have wished for anything better. I would love to have stayed forever, and will most certainly chose the same place next time.

The location of this hotel is great, we had booked a room for our daughter but she was taken ill at the last minute, and didn't come with us so we should have been charged for the room but Antonio very kindly didn't charge us, he's a great host and the Soggiorno La Cupola is a great value for money hotel. The view from the roof terrace, is great and the all the better with the lovely wine Antonio gave us. Many thanks Antonio, hope to see you again.

Had a terrific stay at this property! LOCATION IS WONDERFUL! We had the quadruple room, even though we were in a group of 3. Private bathroom, plus shared use of the bathroom in the lobby if there was the need. On arrival Antonio greeted us with a bottle of Chianti, and we went to visit the private terrace on top of the facility - stunning view of the city! Would certainly stay here again! Cheap, good quality accommodation!

the location of la cupola in Florence is fantastic as it is just a few metres from the duomo and from the train station. The view from our room was fantastic as was the service offered by Antonio. We were given a bottle of wine upon arrival which unfortunately we could not enjoy from the roof as it was too cold but the view from our room compensated. Definetly recommended.

it was just an overnight, but already the location close to the train station and close to the city center is worth a lot. since the location is very central, it was not a problem to walk to the city center in the late evening and in the early morning we went to the dome, shopping and up the giotto tower, all this arriving at 10 pm in florence and departing the day after at 10:30 am, already this was enough to be happy.

The rooms are small, but the location in Florence is fantastic, right next to everything and within very easy walking distance of Santa Maria Novella (train station). The staff were great, very welcoming. We were there on christmas, and our host was kind enough to help us out immensely with our picnic-on-the-roof plans, including an unexpected (and much appreciated) bottle of wine :).

We have been to Florence before but this is the first time we have stayed in bed and breakfast accommodation. The location of this B & B could not have been better and we had an especially warm welcome from the proprietor. The rooms are basic but they are clean and more than adequate for a short stay. I would strongly recommend La Cupola for anyone on a budget holiday. La Cupola is not on the ground floor and there are stairs to climb to the entrance door and to the terrace and this may not suit everyone. Finally, the view from the breakfast terrace is fantastic and just perfect for photos.

We had a wonderful stay here. It was a five minute walk from the train station and about the same to the Duomo - can not beat the location! Room was nice and Antonio was very friendly and welcomed us warmly with a nice bottle of red wine which we enjoyed on the rooftop terrance with breathtaking views. We enjoyed the breakfast at the cafe around the corner. Was a great value and we had a great stay - we would definitely stay here again.

Very nice place for a short city brak right in the middle of the city centre.

The location of this hotel is excellent. It has the added bonus of a rooftop terrace with spectacular views over Florence, we stayed in October and the weather was still nice enough to go on the roof and have a glass of wine, fantastic! The owner was really friendly and gave us a bottle of red wine as a welcome. He also recommended a couple of lovely restaurants which we really appreciated. We would definately recommend this hotel to anyone who wants good, clean, accommodation which is located perfectly for all of the sites in Florence. We will definately stay again.

This place is near the train station so you don't have to pay for extra money to get to the hotel. The place was nice and clean but washroom very small. Antonio was a great host as he gave us a bottle of red wine as a welcome gift. The view from the top patio was awesome. We would definately come back.

The staff is very friendly. You get a personal welcome with a bottle of wine. Our only comments are about some facilities in the room that were not that good. The mastrass on the bed was too soft. The shower fell of the wall, and there wasn't that much space to put it somewhere else. The owner was friendly and offered us the common bathroom to use.
