That it was not pleasant to us. In the house there is a bad noise isolation, all is almost audible. Input in a toilet only from the general corridor. We had only one key from a toilet and from a room. It was very cold in Florence when we there were,it was very cold in a room too... We had to ask twice that have switched on heating. When we left, nobody has come from administration, has not accepted at us a room, we have left keys in our room and have left. All the rest was excellent: Florence with its museums, palaces, churches, parks, the Nature, People, an Italian Cuisine and even weather in the end!!! Many thanks, Italy! It is the most beautiful country!

This B&B is 15 minutes walk from Florence, the rooms are clean with ample storage. The owner of the B&B does not live on site, which is not a problem if sufficient information is provided upon your arrival. However this was not the case at Residenza Cantagalli. When the owner gave us the breakfast tickets to Caffe Petrarca he was unable to tell us where the bar was located. He also did not provide us with adequate information regarding public transport. We had been at the B&B for one day and were unable to find a glass or cup to drink water from. Upon ringing the owner we were told he would return in 6 hours with the glasses. When we told him this was unacceptable he told us to go to the shops and purchase the glasses ourselves. A few minutes later he rang back and stated he would return to the B&B in 30 minutes. The owner is very keen on saving electricity as each day the TV, clock radio and mozzie zapper are turned off at the power point. So if you enjoy having to re-set the clock each night after a long day of sight seeing, this is the B&B for you. Also the coffee machine in the common area was out of order. Residenza Cantagalli is not a B&B I would say in again, nor would I recommend it to others.

It is a almost perfect hotel except the toilet, as mentioned by others. The host are a father(can't speak English) and his son(English is quite well), they picked me at airport, this deeply touched me. The hotel's position is so good, especially I attend a conbference in Convitto della Calza. it is only two minutes by walk. The breakfast was served by a america coffee bar, and paied by host. It is also nice.

Everything was in accordance with the presentation. As a breakfast we had a coffee with a croissant in the bar nearby. It is 15 minutes walking from the Ponte Vecchio. The only problem was an owful smell of bathroom, caused by an electronic clouset, so I don't advise you to book a small twin room which has separated entrance from the main apartment. The rooms in the main apartment are completely acceptable and nice!

The Residenza Cantagalli is an apartment in the second floor of a 30-years old building. It is not a real B&B. In the description of the Property Facilities in venere.com, the following items are not valid: Historic Building (by no means), Free Parking (I paid 15 euros to park my car in a nearby parking, I kept the receipt). Multilingual staff (the staff was only one person, the owner, who did not speak English). Booking via venere.com, I paid 76 euros per night to the owner. However, the price behind the door of the room was much lower (I took a photo of it).

I had read in the reviews that the bathrooms smelled like crap; it was true at least in our bedroom, thanks whoever did that review!!, although water pressure in the shower was great, good hotel, the shitty smell sucked and the breakfast was good if we would have had it the week before...it was pretty much airplane croissant but old and a small machine coffee a day (they also had some juice and yogurt that wasn't bad at all)...it wasn't like the end of the world, just not great, I would still go back to this B&B.

My family and I had a peasant 1 night stay. The property is an apartment that has been converted for use as a small 4 room 'hotel'. Do not expect any visible sign from the street that you are at the right place! There is a small public area but it is a walk-through area and not a place in which to linger. The hotel was relatively good value. The plumbing in the toilet was bizarre and inadequate (but I choose not to dwell on that!). Staff were very friendly. Helpful copies of guides to Florence were provided for the use of guests. It is an easy and pleasant walk from the old town to the property (located a few hundred meters from Porta Romagna (a Roman Gate to the old town) and close to a beautiful public garden. Recommended.

The room was clean and spacious and the breakfast facilities were adequate. My only complaint is the toilet facilities. This is due to the fact that you weren't even allowed to put soiled paper in the toilet. Also the processor for the toilet was in a neighbouring room and was extremely noisy as it served the entire apartment. There was also an odour coming from this as all of the waste water from the basin and the shower also went through the same processor. Overall the room was very good and the owner went out of her way to make us welcome and ensure our stay in Florence was enjoyable.

Roberta was a wonderful hostess. She made sure we had everything we needed. The room and the bathroom was very clean and spacious. The walls are a little thin and we could hear our neighbors, but it wasn't much of a problem because our neighbors were quiet. The location was easy to find and the neighborhood safe. Breakfast was decent, selfserve, pastry, bread, jam and butter, yogurt, juice, water, coffee and tea. You get a water boiler and a fridge so you can buy stuff.

We realy enjoyed our stay at Residenza Cantagalli, with hosts Roberta Nanni and Jannis Binelis. Roberta answered e-mails regularly before the trip, helped with museum reservations, and gave us much needed tourist advice. Both hosts, and their son, who helps with check-in arrangements, spoke very good English and were very accommodating. Our room was very large and comfortable, and a real value for Florence. The value was bought at a slight inconvenience in location (Porta Romana area was 20 minutes from downtown Florence by bus), but there were excellent restaurant choices in the area, and bus access was very frequent. We stayed a total of six nights, and found nearby free parking on a side street for the days we had a rental car and were touring the Tuscan countryside. The only minor complaints were a small hot water heater (short showers mandatory) and a self-service breakfast with instant coffee in the room (we were spoiled by more elaborate B&B breakfasts in Rome and Venice, but in much more expensive properties, so we took the modest breakfast as on-par for a very modestly priced room). If you stay here, have dinner at nearby Ristorante Da Ruggero - excellent food!

the location is ok if you're willing to take the bus (stops nearby) into the city as the walk is a bit too long esp in inclement weather. (helpful to get a bus map/schedule prior to going to the residenza.) the room itself and the food (yogurt, packaged pastry goods and condiments, coffee, juice, and a few bottled water) were convenient to have in the room. however, the noise from flushing the toilet is very loud esp in the middle of the night and there is a showerbox. hosts were very nice and arrangements for arrival is important (as they state) since they do not live on the premises. fortunate for us, the mechanic across the street was kind to assist us.

While just outside the city gates, R.C. is a long walk from the tourist core of Florence. Bus service is consistent, but it stops at 9:45 to 10:15 depending upon the station. The walk from the train station is 45-60 minutes with bags. The rooms and service are great, but the plug in toilets leak sewer gases.

This place is located outside the city walls of Florence in a relatively quiet neighborhood. It is within walking distance of the Porta Romana which has bus stops from which you can get into the city much faster than the pretty long route on foot. It is very close to the Pitti Palace. There are a lot of quaint restaruants in the area along with some small stores and a necessary gelateria! The owner is a nice man who was very helpful. Our room was clean, but we are used to having our beds made each day which did not really bother us, but may be a problem for other people. The bathroom was extremely small and the shower was difficult for me to use because I have a knee problem and had to step up about a foot to get into it. Also, the toilet was a pretty primitive thing. Signs on the wall in the bathroom, told us to not flush anything down the toilet including used toilet tissue. This was a bit of a gross out for us. The breakfast was some yogurt and juice boxes in the small fridge in the room and some prepackaged croissants etc. Coffee drinkers will have to boil water in the electric pot provided in the room. All of this is done by the guests themselves, as the owner does not live on the premises. He did give us his number to use if we had any problems etc. The place was a little noisy early at night, but quieted down later. We would reccomend this B&B to anyone who is looking for a good value outside of the city walls, and who is not planning to spend much time in their room, or requiring a better breakfast than we described.

The rooms were great if a little eccentric (paintings. An excellent location - a lovely walk - about 20 minutes - to the centre. Clean and bright rooms and excellent value. Only problems were not having any english language TV, an electric WC device which required extra sensitive handling and a shockingly loud extractor fan in the bathroom which came on with the light. For a short weekend stay none of these were a problem but for anything more they would become both an irritant and possibly unpleasant (WC.

Our hosts were very welcoming and offered information on where to eat, transport links and provided a map. The room was clean and spacious and the breakfast was very good (pastries, toast, juice, yoghurt). Facilities were great (fridge in room, kettle, hairdryer). The only gripe we have is that the en suite toilet was of such a nature that you could not flush toilet paper and had to bin it. This resulted in an awful smell which permeated through to the bedroom. Besides that, we had a good stay.

On the night we arrived, the owners demanded money for the full stay up front-- never a good sign. They also requested that we not throw toilet tissue into the toilet, which seemed a reasonable reques at the time-- we assumed that the trash would be emptied or we would be provided with some means of empying it ourselves. No such luck-- we never saw the owners again. After three days, the smell was appalling. Definitely not recommended.

We had a very warm welcome and were helped with our bags. The rooms are beautifully decorated with a lovely en suite bathroom adn air conditioning. We were delighted to find that there was a fridge full of food - breakfast for the next few days; fruit juice, yoghurt, mineral water, milk, jam and butter. There was also tea and coffee plus kettle, croissants, bread and pastries. There are not many shops nearby to buy food but there are several bancomats and its only 10 or 15 minutes from the centre. There isn't much of a view but these things are more than made up for by the B&B itself. An excellent choice.

I have stayed here on my own for 2 nights -2 years running - the great thing about staying a mile away from the river is that you are in a non-tourist area. There is a bar at the end of the street and plenty of small shops to buy food at excellent prices. There is also a small market by the Porta Romana where you can get fresh fruit. The drawbacks are minor - the area is so quiet that the sound of Fridge in room switching on and off in hot weather disturbed me and the rooms are probably on small side if you were staying there for a week. The big plus was permanent hot water in a powerful shower. I plan to stay here again for a couple of nights in 2005.

I had a good stay at Residenza Cantagalli. It was good value for the money. It was a good location, and although not located in the centre, it was very near, with good bus service and neighbourhood shops nearby. It should be mentioned that this is not a traditional B & B. There are no owners or managers on the premises, and they can only be contacted by phoning them from a pay phone nearby. The room was modern, spacious and comfortable, with its own refrigerator. Breakfast was self-serve, and as far as I'm concerned it would be better not to have it at all. There are nearby cafes where one can have a good inexpensive Italian breakfast. In essence this was a rented room in an apartment building, wonderful for what it was (even had a balcony), but people expecting traditional bed and breakfast atmosphere should look somewhere else.

The owners were very helpfull and welcoming; they provided good information regarding neighbouhood restaurants and shopping places, cost and schedule of transportation. The room was clean, but a bit noisy (from adjacent bathroom). We found the location to be actually further than expected, but well connectad to the city by public transportation. Breakfast was provided, but not actually served (as it is currently understood by the B&B designation), the "do it yourself" type of setting being a little bit more time consuming. Overall the stay was pleasant.

We loved it here at the Rezidenza Cantigalli. Roberta was extremely helpful in showing us how to get around Florence and finding good places to eat, see, do laundry, internet, etc. The location was close enough to all the tourist areas but far enough to not feel like it. A good address, a little away from the center but the walk is not unpleasant at all, it's about 10 minutes from the touristic center. Offers a different vision of Florence than the one you'd have if you remained in the touristic center. Clean and decent. The hosts don't live there, so don't expect too much service, but they have a good selection of leaflets and brochures at your disposal.

The aspect we liked most was the kindness of our guests especially in providing us with info on how to reach the facility and how to move around Florence. Unfortunately our guests do not live in the same facility and therefore it is not so easy to have a direct speech (only via phone). Rooms are only made once a week (i.e. you have to make daily houswork as making your bad, cleaning bath, throwing trash). On the check-out day you cannot leave your baggage after 11 a.m. and if you leave Florence in the evening/night, you have to rely on public baggage deposit.

Seems a very good value to this pair of occasional world travelers. If you arrive, as we did, after dark and without a cell phone, don't panic. We passed by the residence once and on a return pass we did make contact with Jannis who let us in. There is no sign out front to identify the Residenza. Our only complaint would be the lock on the door of our room. Entry to our room was just off the lobby and the door had a mechanism like a bank vault. It's tricky. Either it needs some lubrication or Jannis and Roberta should consider spending more time making sure the visitor knows how to open the door. A couple of times we had to fiddle and fumble with it for more than a few minutes Again, we felt some panic that we wouldn't be able to get in without finding a phone and contacting Roberta or Jannis -- who had no trouble with it themselves. High security for sure. Overall, a comfortable, well-equipped, clean room. Very nice marble and wood ambience. There is a pizza place around the corner which is worth the wait. This is not your father's pizza. On our second day we also scored big with a wonderful late dinner at a little restaurant. I wish I had the name handy. It's a little trattoria (yellow front, I think) on the east side of Borga San Frediano (I think) just north of the Via de Seragli (I think). The dining room is downstairs. (Was that the one with the coin laundry -- with cheap internet -- across and down the street?) We think it would be worth your effort to find it. But Florence must have hundreds of others like it. We were only there two days. Were we just lucky or does Florence cook! We had looked forward to the Boboli Gardens. Afterwards we just didn't feel it was worth the price of admission. Back to Roberta and Jannis: the BBC, DW (Eng.) or CNN on tv would be a nice addition for those of us whose Italian stops at "Ciao, baby."

It was only a ten or 15 minute walk to the Palazzo Pitti, and from there just a few more minutes into the true heart of the city - the Duomo, the Ufizzi, the Ponte Vecchio... we would highly recommend this place to stay in Florence. The price is unbeatable, too. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and there were pre-packaged pastries that were already in the room so we didn't have to go out for breakfast each morning. Our refrigerator was also stocked with yogurts, bottled water, juices and jams, all included in the price of the room. There was also instant coffee and an assortment of nice teas, as well as a hot-water maker, so breakfast in the room each morning was a snap. This may not work for breakfast snobs, but we were extremely happy with what was here - everything was very good and we appreciated not having to go out each morning. On the day of our departure, Roberta was so kind as to recommend some great small towns to stop at along the way to Rome - places we never would have thought to go. How wonderful. This is an excellent value in Florence and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for nice acommodations at a very fair price.

The location was great (15 minutes from the city center. They offered us some cakes the last day of the year. In general we are satisfied. Thank you!

We had two rooms, both were very nice. Our landlady was extremely helpful, and was a pleasure to encounter. The only drawback, was the one room had a mechanical toilet, which did produce something of an odor, which sometimes permeated the room. Otherwise, we had a wonderful time, both at our residence, and in Florence.

Residenza Cantagalli is a great place to stay in Florence. It is close to the center, but not too much. Roberta, the owner, is very pleasant and helpful. She told me how to take the bus and where to get my tickets. She suggested routes and places to visit. She also made sure I had enough food for my stay and that I was very comfortable. The room was very spacious and gracefully decorated. The only down side was the noise level. If you are a light sleeper, you may want to insist on getting one of the rooms facing the opposite side of the street. I believe those rooms are #5 and #4. But that was the only issue, which the owner could not help since Florence is a very busy city. The room had a tv and a fridge and also a balcony. If you can, try the little bar down the street in front of Porta Romana, and also try the gelati place. They have yummy stuff for not so much money. Get your bus tickets just next to the store, at the news stand. Good luck. Oh, be careful with the taxi drivers, they short changed me.

I'd go back again. A bit of a walk to the center of town, but if you learn the busses, it's not a problem considering the price. GREAT place if you have a car. There's parking right next door. Friendly staff.

I had a great stay, and the owners of the residence were very helpful and kind. I think it is important however, to mention in the email booking confirmation the full residence address AND that one needs to call the owners upon arrival- most people do not come prepared with a mobile phone (I almost did not!) and was a little confused.Overall, very nice.

The room is very well located near Firenze town center. Bus stop very near .The room is quite big with a Fridge, kettle and merendine for breakfast but the bathroom very small and toilettes not very clean. People were not very present. There is a very good Pizzeria in the street behind the house called "Antica Porta".

I felt immidiately relaxt when I stept inside this nice B&B place. It is just outside the city centre. The service was good, the bedroom was large, nicely decorated and clean. And the (private) bathroom was also perfect. I can recommend it to everybody. The only thing I mist was some fruit at breakfast and maybe something else then jam on the toast.

Excellent residenza. Warm welcome, I arrived late in the evening and they tried to pick me up from the station. Room number 2 (double) to the street has a small bathroom this room smells a little bit and is small. Number 5 is a single. This Room has balcony is very quiet and the seperate bathroom is okay (spaciuos). This is realy good offer. Mostly quiet, clean, aircon, bus-stop nearby,

Excellent 3-nights stay. Well-decorated rooms, excellent attention from the owner. Convenient location, in a quiet area, close to bus stops to major interest places and even at a walking distance (10-15 min) from the Historic Centre.

It is a real treat to have found in Florence the extraordinary and outstanding care and attention the owners bring to their B&B busines, as well as the sincere kindness shown to their guests.

We were very disappointed in this property. Though Roberta was very friendly and helpful when we arrived, the room we were promised (double bed rather than twin) was given to someone else who chose to extend their stay. There was dust under the armoire. The bathrooms are small, which is not so much a problem, but the plumbing is so inefficient that solid waste does not flush. The rooms and bathrooms were not cleaned during our stay. Breakfast in this property is provided in the room itself, and we had to call the property owner on our second night, as our breakfast for the following morning was not delivered that day as promised. The property owner was annoyed by the phone call. Though it was not stated in the property information, the owner expected cash, and wanted the cash up front regardless of the fact they already had our credit card number. They were busy the day we were to leave, and could not wait to be paid. We were expected to make a separate trip to a cash machine and back to the hotel, thus shortening our already limited time to see Florence. We do not recommend this property.

We arrived quite late in the evening and the owner was awaiting us. She was very welcoming and assisted us with our luggage. Despite her husband not being well she stayed to orient us a bit before leaving for the evening. The residenza is not a full service hotel but that wasn't really our need -- just a nice place to stay. The residenza was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Our room had a new fresco'ed wall and art by the owner's husband. The bed was a split king and comfortable with a nice comforter. The bathroom was clean with decent water pressure in the stall shower. Each room has a minifridge with free juice, yogurt and breakfast supplies which was handy for storing bought lunchstuff too. The area of the hotel is a little off the main tourist routes which suited us, it is south of the Porta Romana up a little street. The surrounding area is extremely convenient in terms of the # of shops, grocers etc. direct bus service to the Center & up to Pizzale Michaelangelo is close by. Note to arrivees at SMN: take the 36 or 37 bus from in front of the station to "Porta Romana". We paid a discounted rate for our mid-March stay and would definitely stay in the residenza again -- great for the traveler who doesn't need their hand held but wants comfort and class in accomodation. Cheers.

I stayed at this b&b for 5 nights and was quite comfortable. It was easily accessible to the bus stops, which went directly downtown and to the train station. The room was comfortable with tv, refridgerator, kettle, and a full supply of breakfast items. There was even juice and yogurt in the fridge. A supply of tourist books in different languages were readily available with information on all the sights of Florence, as well as umbrellas to be used in case of rain (a pleasant plus since it rained most days). Both Roberta and her husband were very pleasant and helpful. I would recommend this b&b!

Both Residenza Cantagalli and Residenza Villamagna proved to be absolutely delightful for ambiance and location just outside the tourist crush. The owner/hosts of these flats are elegant and congenial and above all supremely thoughtful and considerate. This is THE place to stay for quiet independent travellers.
