All in all a very nice old world style hotel. The walls and ceiling of our room were frescoed, which we found charming. There was a little bit of peeling paint at one point in the bathroom, but not enough to bother us. The free wifi was nice and worked well. The breakfast buffet was simple but adequate. It is a short walk from the train station, even with luggage, and a short walk from the key tourist sites. The hotel is not listed as quiet because you will hear some local street noise, which didn't bother us too much. I suspect all hotels in this location will have this problem. I would recommend this hotel for someone who wants a charming stay at a hotel with a local flavor at a good price. If you want a modern American style luxury hotel, you should look elsewhere.

Although we were only staying in Florence for one day/night, the person at the front desk helped us tremendously by pointing out the must sees in that short a period. We ended up seeing everything he recommended (and more). The only drawback was no internet (they have it but because of the Italian anti-terrorist law they won't let you use it.) There is a internet cafe very near.

We stayed in the Junior suite and it was wonderful. Everything was very clean with alot of charm. The bathroom was large and comfortable. The staff was very helpful in helping us to explore Florence. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Very central to station and town. Thanks to earlier reviewers I found the hotel quite easily although its sort of hidden away. I loved everything about this hotel - even going to the small cafe/bar for breakfast. I would definatly stay here again.

The staff was very friendly and accomodating and not only prepared us expressos while we visited with Lior but stored our luggage both on check in & check out. The room was beautiful and spacious. The continental breakfast next door was very good. Lior was wonderful to talk to and very informative with places to visit in Florence and our next stop Rome.

An excellent place to stay in Florence, only 1 block from rail station. Staff are fantastic, especially Lior who provided great advice about things to see and do in Florence as well as Rome. The room was very large and well appointed, excellent security.

A very relaxing comfortable room, with good quality facilities (although no internet access). The location is great for wandering the city, and easy to return with purchases or to cool one's feet, or grab an umbrella. I found the hosts very friendly, and staff extremely helpful with information. Travelling alone, I felt perfectly safe, and enjoyed a quiet room - difficult to find in busy Florence. My early morning departure was aided by a well timed wake up call - any request met with helpfulness.

This was the most exceptional accommodation we experienced on our European holiday. It was in a great position, near the station and also the Duomo, markets and excellent shopping. On arrival we were upgraded to a suite, which was very spacious and beautifully decorated. The service provided by Leo was well beyond any we have ever received. I would recommend the Palazzo Castiglioni Relais to anyone!

Room is spacious, and hotel staff was very welcoming. I do not speak Italian, so that, had a bit of communication problem. Breakfast offered at a caffee next door - reasonable continental style, but the cafe is not open 'till 7:30. Great place to stay for vacation

We visited on our Honeymoon. Sandro and staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. This was a first class stay. It is inside a historical palace. You can be sure you will enjoy the stay at this location. We traveled all over Europe and this was our favorite spot. Thank you for a GREAT stay in florence!!

I was very happy with Palazzo Castiglioni Relais. I thought we got a great price for such a big, nice room in a great location. The cleaning staff was outstanding!! I've never had such a clean hotel room. My only complaint is that Florence is noisy! Even in November. The vroom-vroom of the vespas, mopeds and motorcycles is maddening. BUT...that's life in any Italian city. Just come with an understanding of that's how it is, (and bring earplugs!) I definitely recommend this hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were clean and spacious. We had original fresoes on our wall from the 1700's! They prompty made up our room everyday nicely. Great showers (plenty of hot water and pressure). Perfect location...5 minute walk to Duomo. The staff was very nice when called upon, but don't expect them to offer up suggestions, maps or ideas. There were vouchers for breakfast that you used at a close by cafe (Cappuccino, pastry, etc.) but no breakfast in the hotel itself. We never used the 'bar' because it was also the front desk. They didn't mind when I asked to use the internet (free). Overall, very happy and would return. A good value in Florence!

We felt that this was a good value for the close-in location and were willing to overlook the fact that the bathroom door would not close completely, or stay open all the way and the main door to the room was difficult to lock because the room and lobby had the charm we were looking for. We would not stay there again, however, because the street noise was unbearable until 4:30 AM each day and we got very little sleep during our stay. Additionally, it was strange to come to a front door that was locked, haul baggage up the elevator, across the hall in the dark, and then be told that payment is required in CASH! We received recommendation of this hotel in Rick Steve's book and looked for it online, which is how we stumbled across Venere. We expected the hotel to honor the printed 5% discount with cash and the Rick Steves book. They did not honor it because we booked through Venere. We hadn't planned to pay cash but when they stated plainly that they wanted it, we decided to get cash from the cash machine, figuring with the 5% discount we would save a few $ or at least it would be a wash. As it turned out, it cost us extra money as we were charge a cash advance fee for withdrawing funds from our credit card at the ATM machine. At a minimum, if a hotel isn't going to accept credit cards, it needs to make guests aware BEFORE they show up to check in! This left a very bad taste in our mouths. It turned out to be the only hotel that we were disappointed in while in Italy.

We enjoyed our stay here very much. The room was very large and beautifully painted, the bathroom spotless. The evening staff person was a different one every night and each added their interesting and entertaining personality to the mix. The staff was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and gallery reservations. Be aware that the staff is on duty just in the morning and evening and not all night. While not a full-service hotel, the service you do get is wonderful. The location is very convenient to everything. Some guests complained about the noisy location- we live in the middle of a big city at home, and big cities are noisy. For us, this hotel was exactly the kind of small, personalized and eclectic place we like to stay in.

Everything was fine, but the air conditioning was broken. We were told from the beginning that there would be a price break if we stayed, which we did. The price break they gave us was just 12%, which we think should have been 20%. It is a very hot summer in Firenze and though we are not air conditioning advocates normally, the price break for not having it should have been more. Otherwise, the room and service were wonderful.

This was a beautiful small hotel. Our room was surprisingly large and had frescoes! The staff was very, very welcoming. The hotel was also in a very good location--although it was somewhat close to the train station (we walked to the hotel from the station when we arrived in Florence), it wasn't "tourist central"

Perfect rooms. Better quality and service than expected. Can be noisy at times, but that is expected with location. Very courteous and knowledgeable staff. Discreet location so be sure to read the doorbell signs. De Medici restaurant around the corner is the best value in town. We'll be back!
