The room was clean and neat. Public areas were small, but it has everything you need. Staff was very friendly and kind and provided quality services. The location was very convenient, most of the place we wanted to visit were in walking distance. If the shower had enough hot water, it was perfect place to stay.

Il Bargello is located in downtown, which facilitates getting around as tourist. But it's really noisy if you get a room facing the B & B. In addition, Il Bargello is located on the 3rd floor of an old building that has no elevator. Staff and owner are really symphatic and competent.

(+) A nice, comfortable place to be. Next time we certainly will check availability. (-) It would be easier to find if there was some actual information how to get there walking or by car. The road/street was blocked.

Everything was good, even the welcoming and the kindness of the american lady at the reception. Also the position is fantastic because you are in the centre of Florence in less than 5 minutes. The breakfast is good and plentiful.A very perfect compromise between price and quality.

We stayed here the first three nights in Florence and thought it was a wonderful hotel. Gabriella and Alison were great hostesses. The breakfast was good and the location is perfect, but you do have to climb a lot of stairs the get from the street to the hotel entrance. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Great place, great location. I stayed at Il Borgello with my wife and her 77 year old father. Yes, he climbed one step for every year of his age! Here are my thoughts: * The Rooms: the rooms were very large by European standards and very comfortable. Each room has a private bath. We had a king size bed and plenty of walking room around it. * The B&B: the B&B was nicely laid out. There is a kitchen area for breakfast in the morning, a sitting area for lounging and a computed with WiFi. We had our own netbook and connected to the WiFi. There is also the rooftop terrace, where we enjoyed lots of wine of course. My only complaint is that they have a practically useless cappucino/coffee machine. Poor Allison (the owner's assitant) has to spend the entire morning making coffee while everyone waits 5 minutes for their cup. I think Gabriella (the owner) should spring for a new machine. Gabriella speaks fluent English (she's from Canada) and is very helpful. * The Location: the location is fantastic, about a block from the Duomo. We actually drove to the B&B (not recommended), unloaded our bags, and then drove out to a parking garage about 2 miles away (18 euros/nt). Anyway, Florence is quite small, so everything is within walking distance. My father-in-law was happily shocked every time we returned to the B&B and found it just around the corner. He was comparing to Rome, where walking distances are much further. The restaurants that Gabriella recommended were excellent: Bierriera Centrale and Dante something. They are owned by the same owner. I had the best pasta in my life at Bierriera Centrale - Tortelloni, which was 5 giant tortellini shells filled with ricotta and mushroom, and topped with a creme sauce and balsamic glaze - delish!

Il Bargello is quite nice – well located with decent rooms – but I was quite let down by the breakfast, which consisted of a couple of basic cereals, peanut butter and jelly, and vending machine-style pre-packed croissants! This (the PJB especially) may well appeal to homesick American tourists, but personally I'm looking for good, local, and above all *fresh* pastries and breads, as part of something resembling a traditional local breakfast. Not what you get here (although the coffee wasn't bad). Plus, although Gabriella is a very helpful American-Italian hostess, I felt like our late-to-bed, late-to-rise, relatively bohemian young couple lifestyle wasn't really a good fit for her and this b&b. Overall, I felt that this b&b is well suited for American teens and elderly travellers who aren't that fussed about European breakfasts. Others may want to look elsewhere.

This was a great place to stay- 15min walk from the train station, clean, very friendly and helpful staff and beautiful apartment. I would definitely stay here again. The only complaint, which isn't bargello's fault, I had is that I multiple mosquito bites at night...oh well, the rest of the trip was great! I would, however, NOT recommend this place to anyone who has bad knees- there are 3 very steep set of stairs to climb (with your luggage) on a daily basis.

This was our first stop on our honeymoon (only 2 nights in Florence). Besides the expected 77 stairs we had to climb to get up to Il Bargello, everything and everyone was better than we expected. Both Maggie, whom we met the first day and Gabriella, whom we met at breakfast our 2nd day were fantastically friendly and helpful during our stay. Their recommendations for restaurants and inside information on the places we wanted to visit were right on. We plan to visit Florence in a year or two and stay for at least a week. We hope we get to stay again at Il Bargello .

It was exactly what I expected; great location, very pleasant breakfast area for mingling, wonderful rooftop terrace for enjoying the evening. The numerous steps (approximately 75) are not for the faint of heart, but I'm sure assistance would have been provided with our bags if we needed it. Just a great place.

This was a wonderful homebase to explore Florence. It is just a few blocks from the Duomo, Bargello, and the Uffizi. The owners were very welcoming and gave us many suggestions for affordable restaurants with excellent food. My husband and I really loved the full kitchen and living room area for guests to use. We enjoyed a full breakfast each morning. We stayed in the Michelangelo Room - can't say enough about the bathroom (better than our bathroom at home) and the room was huge! I highly recommend this B&B!

This is an amazing place to stay. They were really friendly and welcoming. When we arrived they asked what we wanted to do and booked the museum tickets, and tours for us. They also wrote down lots of recommendations for local restaurants (Yellow's bar which is just by the hotel was the best pizza we ate in italy). The breakfast was great, all you needed to start the day off well. Their was free internet access, a small lounge to chill out it and also a great roof terrace where we sat and ate dinner one evening. The only issue I would have is that the room we had was by the kitchen, so could hear everyone in the morning getting breakfast, so no lye in, but then you want to spend the day out exploring anyway. The b&b only has 6 rooms, so its a very friendly atmosphere. Probably one of the best places I've stayed in a long time.

Thank you to Celine and Gabriella who were both very friendly and helpful. The use of the internet at Il Bargello was terrific and very handy. We loved the rooftop terrace where we enjoyed a bottle of Chianti and listened to the chiming bells. Thank you Il Bargello.

B&B Il Bargello is an amazing B&B. We stayed at the B&B for 4 nights in May and it was fabulous. Maggie is a wonderful host. She gave us numerous suggestions for sites in Florence, dining, and even surrounding areas for day trips. Both she and Gabriella speak fluent English. The B&B itself was amazing. They have changed the layout slightly from the pictures but they do not do the B&B justice. There is a great communal kitchen area and sitting area as well as the rooftop terrace, which is nice for grabbing a bottle of whine and relaxing. The rooms are clean and spacious and the bathrooms are just as nice. I can recommend B&B Il Bargello without any hesitation at all to anyone who is planning a trip to Florence. When we return to Italy the B&B Il Bargello will be one of our first reservations made.

What a wonderful B&B! Location was great; breakfast was nice; rooms were very clean; and the roof terrace was lovely. Also, Maggie was a huge help with everything from recommendations to reservations. I would definitely stay here again next time I visit Firenze. Advice to others: If you can't handle dragging your luggage (or yourself) up many flights of stairs, this place isn't for you. Also, if you know you are going to arrive very early, call ahead of time to make sure someone will be there to let you in (there was no response the first time we buzzed, so we had to walk around with our luggage for a bit). Or if you're arriving somewhere other than the main train station (Santa Maria Novella), call ahead to get directions to the B&B or to arrange for a taxi (we learned the hard way that it's very difficult to get a cab from the other train station).

Arriving in Florence by train on a rainy day, we were welcomed by Maggie who was great - very upbeat and helpful. She also makes a mean cappucino! The location is great as we were close to most things we wanted to be and when we got lost, we just looked for the Bargello museum tower; the museum was right around the corner from the B&B. One word of caution, though, the 3 flights of stairs are killer with luggage or after a day of extensive walking. I highly recommend Open Bar restaurant on the opposite side of the Arno River. Not cheap - but good service and priceless views.

This was a great location and Gabriella was a great host. It's just around the corner from almost all of the major sites and in a great neighborhood. The rooms were beautiful and the patio upstairs was a wonderful relaxing spot. Our room had it's own patio which was wonderful. The bed and linens were very comfortable and clean. There was a lot of drawer and closet space and the bathroom was spotless. Also the breakfast was much more than I expected and very delicious. This was our first time in Florence and Gabriella and Margharite were so helpful with everything, including good hot spots at night and great local trattorias. Just make sure you are good at climbing stairs as it is an original 18th century building that has no elevators, but it just burns off the wine and food. Overall I was very impressed with the setup.

Il Bargello is a wonderful place top stay. The only drawback for some will be the 77 steps to climb. If you can handle that, it is a wonderful place to stay in Firenze. It is literally next door to the Bargello and close to all of the attractions in the old part of town. Gabriella is wonderful and will help with reservations both for museums and for dinner. Her restaurant recommendations were right on. We will return.

'Upmarket pensione'. Excellent and would stay again. Very central position for shops and museums etc., all on doorstep. Comfortable, well decorated and clean rooms and facilities (for a B&B). Only drawback, Il Bargello is on 3rd floor without lift so would not recommend for elderly/disabled. But this would not stop us from returning as otherwise we were very satisfied. If you are sensitive to noise may be worth taking earplugs as guests may sit and talk in the lounge in the evening. Appreciated the free use of laptop in lounge, a huge selection of Italian guide books and use of cutlery, plates and kettle in the kitchen. Other guests were interesting, cultured and friendly, including single women. couples etc. Owner and husband extremely professional knowledgeable and helpful.

A lovely property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Gabriella was a fountain of information and most helpful. The breakfasts were very good and we enjoyed sitting up on the roof terrace. We even got used to the 77 stairs! Good for keeping you trim! (However it was a little daunting when we arrived with our luggage but Gabriella kindly gave us a hand). Anyone with a mobility problem I would suggest they give this a miss.

Excellent Location - Il Bargello is located down a side street far enough from the main hussle and bussle but close enough to the main attractions such as the duomo, bargello museum and piazza della signoria. The accommodation is at the top of 3 fligts of stairs and is lovely inside. The owners were very friendly and Gabrielle offererd to book museum tickets and reservations to resturants andenjoyed a chat at breakfast. The breakfast was plenty and the roof top terrace a lovely way to unwind and sip a glass of wine after hectic day.

We had never been to Florence before and could not have asked for a more ideal location (easy stroll to everything) or helpful host. Gabriella's house is lovely and she provides use of the living room, access to the internet, use of the roof top terrace and is excellent company over breakfast providing holiday advice, information about train timetables, Florence must sees and good advice on excellent places to eat. The information she provided by email even before our arrival allowed us to plan our gallery visit and wine tour before our arrival and allowed us to simply enjoy our holiday.

I stayed in Il Bargello for 15 nights. Gabriella was an amazing and sweet host (even giving a gift of a bottle of champagne to all the people staying in the hotel for New Years). The hotel was extremely clean, and located in a great area, close to everything. The breakfast was delicious and perfect. And it was great having a computer to use for the internet. One of my favorite parts was the book shelves with tons of books that I was allowed to borrow and read. I have stayed at many bed and breakfast and this was the best one by far.

Our stay at the Il Bargello was wonderful from the moment we arrived until we left 4 days later. Gabriella, the owner, was awesome. She was able to book our museum and dinner reservations for exactly the right time that we wanted them. She also had wonderful suggestions for dinner - not once were we disappointed. Everything about our stay at the Il Bargello exceeded our expectations - we will book there again when in Florence.

The location is wonderful. Gabriella was wonderful and helpful with a wealth of information. One should understand that when you get to the location, you have to climb 77 steps to get to their floor. People should also know they have to bring their own bar soap. Based on price versus location versus amenities, I would probably stay here again.
