Bed and Breakfast Macchia di Pele - Castro Marina, Castro

The best breakfast in Italy and very friendly owners. Its a very nice place to relax. A car is neccessary to visit the surroundings.

Website should reflect that not all rooms have air-conditioning. Website should also state that only cash is accepted. Website should also not imply internet access. Other than those points, this was an excellent B&B, in an excellent location, with very nice hosts. Above average breakfast provided.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay at Macchia di Pele. It was very quiet and relaxing. For the price, it was good value for money. View from the terrace was stunning. Breakfast was good and given many personal touches by Amadeo, one of the resident hosts. We admired what Guiseppe and Amadeo, the two business partners, are trying to achieve. They both speak very good English which was important for us as we speak only a little Italian. The area around Castro is very pretty but, in mid-September when we stayed, there was not a great deal to do when the sun was not shining. A car is a must. Lecce is interesting, as are Otranto and Gallipoli. Santa Maria di Leuca is lovely on a nice day. For evening meals, we can recommend Le Striere in Castro town about 20 minutes walk away. Very friendly, very patient (no English spoken!), reasonable prices, good quality with big portions.
