The house is well located in a charming area of Amsterdam. The house is typical of those built in 1700s. The "suite" appartement proposed (in fact a single room) was a bit small for us 2 adults and 2 teenagers, it is ok for 2, I would not recommend for four; our teenagers had to sleep in a 120 cm width sofa... The appartment would need also some refurbishment at that price, TV not working, hooks for clothes missing, some more lights, we have rent many appartement across europe and this is far from beeing the best.

I would have given The Blue Sheep a much higher rating if there had not been a prostitute located right across from the B&B standing in her window lit up with red lights from about 9pm into the night every night. That must have been the cause of all the night-time street noise. It is very unfortunate, because the rooms were clean and quaint and the people nice, though not usually available (the owners were on vacation) with no number posted if help was needed. Are there no zoning laws? This was the only evidence of the Red Light District I saw on the block and in fact on this side of the canal Single. I wish my 12 year old had not seen it, and the noise hadn't bothered me at night. The steps were very steep - more like climbing a curvy ladder - but we got used to it and it was part of feeling like stepping back in time. Like I said, too bad for the 'wierd woman in the window' as my child described her, otherwise we loved the little apartment.

The Blue Sheep is a tall narrow Amsterdam house from about 1700 which has been fully refurbished and modernised to a very high standard, the location is excellent, about 5 minutes walk from Amsterdam's central train station, in a quiet, narrow street between the Singelgracht and the Herengracht (canals). The breakfast is excellent. Novella and Jan Willem have created a great place to stay in the centre of Amsterdam's canal area and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We loved the welcom, the breakfast, the area/location, the shower, the room. We didn't like the mosquitos (a surprise for us), the narrow stairs but it was fine.

Wonderful location and a chance to feel how to really live in Amsterdam. Jan and Novella were on Holiday and Edgar was the perfect host. We loved it and would come back in a Portland, Oregon minute.

The Blue Sheep is a charming, very well located B&B in central Amsterdam. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The room we stayed in had no natural light so if you stay in the Orange room be sure to set your alarm to wake up if you need to get up early.

The whole family makes you feel like home.We did enjoy Amsterdam and whenever we needed advice both Novella and Johan (Jan?)treated us like friends. The place is lovely, quiet, clean and well located.Breakfast is great. The only thing to improve could be individual toilet instead of shared one,but we never found it occupied. We recommend it for accomodation, and of course we'd come back if we have the chance.

We stayed a total of 5 days at the Blue Sheep in the Orange room at then end of Sept 2009. It did have a private bathroom with shower which was great! John and Noelle were the best hosts you could wish for. John consistently helped us with day trip info and suggestions and sent us to Kinderdijk where we saw 24 windmills that were even better than the 1/2 day bus tour we took later in the trip. Breakfasts were great, fresh sqeezed orange juice every day. We just wished breakfasts could have been earlier than 9am every day as several things we had planned we had to leave by 8....If you choose the Orange room, make sure it is during cooler weather as even in late Sept the room got quite warm as there are no windows to open, but the bed itself had a great mattress and gave us a restful sleep. We would definitely return to the Blue Sheep.

We had reserved the orange room, but for some reason it was not available. Instead, they gave us a studio apartment across the street for the same price, so I'm not sure what the actual hotel rooms are like. The apartment was very nice and roomy. Breakfast was excellent. Our hostess was very friendly. The location is great. I would definitely stay there again

Ideally located, very kind welcome and advice for tourists, lovely house and rooms, excellent breakfast. Only drawback: our room had no private bath (no surprise, this was indicated) and the bathroom was not very close (downstairs).

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Blue Sheep. Novella, Joe and the rest of the staff were extremely hospitiable, made us a delicious breakfast every morning and made some great recommendations for restaurants and attractions. We also enjoyed spending time with their two jack russells, Spot and Vito! We stayed in the blue room. It was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom (which was a floor below our room) had a great shower and was also very clean and comfortable. Next time we go to Amsterdam, we will be sure to stay there again!

Why the hell do I ever waste money on hotels when there are guest houses as nice as this? If Jan and Novella were any nicer, their dogs any better behaved, their baby any more adorable or their house any more gorgeous and well located, I... um... I... I would be even more jealous than I already am. They are lovely. The Blus Sheep is brilliant. Really couldn't be any happier with our experience.

We stayed in the green room- at the top of the stairs. Our bags were carried for us and the room was peaceful and quiet. The breakfast included fresh squeezed orange juice and the recommendation of a nearby vegetarian restaurant made our stay all the more enjoyable. We loved the family feel and the closed off street where neighbors meet and children play.

These are actually apartments. the apartments are very clean and tidy and has modern style. The host was very nice and welcoming. The area is central enough (walking distance from Dam square, red light, central station and good coffee shops) but very quite and relaxing. We were 3 guys in the apartment and can't think of anything that we needed and was not there.

Very friendly & helpful host family. Given use of room early & stored luggage until cruise departure while we did another tour. Lovely freshly prepared cooked breakfast & hot coffee. Excellent dinner at nearby local Italian restaurant. Situated very close to main city centre therefore convenient for exploring Amsterdam.

I would not recommend this to anyone. The room was shabby and this was not apparent on the photos. There was noise and not very private. The room was situated in hall where you had to pass through a work area. The "view" was a work bench and tools. We asked for another room which was better in privacy and quietness but had a very uncomfortable bed. There were no smoke detectors and very steep inadequate stairs from which to escape in case of fire. As far as the neighborhood, the second room was directly next door to a prostitute who sat at the window in her full glory. Dramatically overpriced.

Less than 10 minute walk from Central Station on quiet street near Singel canal. Wonderful hosts and best breakfasts in Holland. Ask John to make you his "bouncer" for breakfast - eggs, ham, cheese, and tomatoes - you won't eat until dinner. Very accomodating and helpful hosts. Wouldn't consider anywhere else on return trip.

The Blue Sheep has everything you could look for in a B&B in a great city. Fantastic location. It is on a quiet pedestrianised street. Only 5 minutes walk to Centraal Station and 5 minutes walk to the Jordaan, a walk we both loved and I can see it now as I write. Exquisite charm. The decor within is great, it is designed without fuss and pretension which makes the guest instantly relaxed. It is great to be able to stay in an old house that has been made so comfortable without losing it's soul. My favourite was the shared bathroom. Comfortable room. The bed that we had was fantastic, I slept so well there. And again it was very nicely decorated, my girlfriend bought the same bed clothes when we came across them in a shop on a trek thro Jordaan. Great Breakfast. Novella puts on a great feast for breakfast, I always ate too much. The hosts. Novella and Jan are incredibly lovely people. Part of our enjoyment of Amsterdam was down to meeting this family, they made us feel at home, we shared some good times and do not ignore their tips they are 100% perfect. We will be back.

After the very friendly welcome, we were quite disapointed with our room. The Orange Room in which we ended has no windows, nothing like the description that says "Both of the guest rooms are overlooking the beautiful patio". If you choose to stay in this B&B make sure you don't get that Orange Room.

The Blue Sheep isn't for everyone's tastes, but I thought the owners were some of the nicest people I have met in my travels. We sat in front of the fire with them and drank wine and talked. It made my stay in Amsterdam special. The rooms are clean and basic, but comforting with all the amenities. Yes the stairs are steep, but otherwise I had no problems and the location and price were unbeatable. I highly recommend the Blue Sheep if you don't need television, an onsuite bathroom and appreciate a well run personal B&B.

The owners were on holiday so we couldn't say anything about them, but the property is nice and the location is great. The breakfast is gorgeous, I had freshly baked pancakes too. Be aware that the staircase is really narrow, so it's not that easy with the luggage. Another big disadvantage is that there was no key for the room, so it's open for everyone at any time. Our advice: if you come by car, park at the P & R at the Olympic Stadium, all the other possibilities in the centre are very expensive (between 40 and 50 Euros a day).

Very comfortable stay and highly recommended. Jan and Novella are fantastic hosts and very welcoming. Just be aware to pay attention to the fact that only one of the double rooms has its own bathroom. Otherwise you will need to share (which isn't too bad unless you've had too much to drink and are sleeping in the "Green Room" and have to negotiate the stairs down to the bathroom!)

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a lovely 2 night stay at this charming and centrally located B & B. Novella and Joe were excellent hosts - they answered questions as needed but also gave you space as appropriate. The B & B is only a few minute walk from Centraal station and a short walk from the fashionable Jordaan neighborhood and the Anne Frank House. The house is tastefully decorated and very cozy. IT is a real treat to stay in an actual canal house replete with steep staircases and nooks and crannies. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone.

Host family was delightful. Fine old Dutch house (read: narrow staircases) beautifully renovated with modern fixtures. Some rooms share a (lovely) downstairs bath, so if that is a problem, be sure to book rooms with a bath. We shared without a problem; other guests were delightful, food was great, and hosts were very accommodating for early departures (we still got a yummy breakfast). Location is right near the main tram line, easy to major museums. Walking distance to Anne Frank house, train station.

Merci encore.

Our hosts were fantastic and very welcoming and very helpful - their dogs were a wonderful addition and won our hearts. The room we stayed in was the blue room and it was larger than expected. The tea/coffee facilities was a bonus and the sink in the room was appreciated. The decor was beautifully chosen. The bed was a little noisy as we explained to our hosts and they were generally concerned as no one else had raised it with them. I can understand as we were reluctant to do the same. There was no ensuite and it was located downstairs. The stairs up to the room were narrow and steep which would not suit everyone. Otherwise, a very pleasant B&B and would definitely recommend this wonderful B&B.

Esperamos volver pronto! When we arrived in Amsterdam, my friend and I found ourselves with lost luggage, and just our travel documents in our posession. The Blue Sheep was only a two or three minute walk from the Central Station, and when we arrived, we were greeted with the most hospitality we could have imagined. Novella and Jan helped us deal with the airlines in getting our luggage back, and even gave us some spare coats to wear, since ours were with our luggage. The room was more than comfortable, and the overall stay was amazing. When we had to leave early in the morning, Novella gave us some packed sandwiches in lieu of the standard breakfast. I highly reccomend this bed & breakfast to anyone looking for a place to stay in Amsterdam.
