We got the room first on the garden side and it was noisy because of the neighbor disco. We asked the new room and we got immediately new wonderful street side room which was quit. We really liked this stylish art hotel with window wall on the street side. The hotel staff was also very helpful and friendly. We will choose this hotel again when visiting in Berlin.

We got a smoking room while we never asked for it. Carpet was smelling smoke. There was noisy works in the street just in front of the hotel, starting every morning at 8 ! Upon departure, the lady at reception gave us the way to the wrong airport. We missed our fligth back home... But nice hotel and nice location.
Cyprus, Aug 2009
It was a unique experience staying in this hotel. Especially the huge window in my room that offers a complete view of the street. The only thing that I did not like was that there was'nt any price on those special socks for massage and I kept all of them (four) in my laguage because I thought that they were offered for free. Then I had to pay eight Euros for each unless I was opening my laguage that was packed at the time. I prefered to pay and I gave the socks as a gift to my friends.

This is an excellent hotel, in a perfect location. Room rates are very good, we paid 100 euros per room per couple. Only slight negative comment would be the cost of the breakfast (14e) but it was excellent and plentiful - so I guess you pay for what you get. Staff are excellent, food is also top quality. There is a Vodka bar, certainly not cheap, but offers an incredible range of cocktails. The hotel is positioned in walking distance of all the principle buildings/attractions, however, you are within 60 seconds of the plentiful and efficient public transport system. Overall just about the best place to stay in berlin.

An excellent hotel: we really appreciated the room with the "open" bathroom. We suggest to ask for a room on the street side to look outside and see people walking by in a nice berliner street. Avoid the first and the second floor otherwise people from outside can easily see you while you are in your room! An advice: having breakfast at the hotel is expensive (12 euros if you reserve the day before otherwise 17 euros). It is better to have breakfast in the bar just on the right of the hotel (the Ambualance bar, or something like this....): people are friendly and the cappuccino is excellent (and their cakes as well).

Nice quality hotel, immacuately clean, beautiful designs, very new; we had a great view of Orienberger Str; good central location for hopping onto metro, or going for a meal along Orienberger Str; very lively area, huge art scene, can get a little seedy with hookers on the streets but everyone pretends they arn't there; the restaurants are great and not expensive. I wish breakfast had been included in the price; the bathroom isn't really a 'room' but it's nicely compactly done, could have done with choice of more privacy with proper curtain for around bath area and not see-through one. Free internet in bar downstairs. We were offered choice to have breakfast for $12 (not $16) but decided against it, but it looked pretty good and I wished we'd tried it.

There is no closet in the room which is very strange for a 4 stars hotel. The internet was supposed to be free as they mentioned in all web sites of the reservation. It was not! The staff was very friendly but they charge our guarenty credit card without our confirmation and we are still trying to fix that mistake - 10 days after asking them on our check out.

Small room but very cosy. Great location and good quality of service provided. But why extra money paid in my credit card? Why and two small duvet on the one double bed? Camera piccola ma molto accogliente. Fantastica posizione e buona qualità dei servizi. Però perche' ritrovarsi degli euro pagati non previsti sulla carta di credito? E perchè in un letto matrimioniale c'erano due piumini singoli?

The hotel is handily located between the tourist traps of Friedrichstraße and in vogue Hackescher Markt with chic cafes, designer shoe/garment shops, and non-commercial galleries. Modest design inside out is complimented with fashionable touches: red carpets throughout the building make you feel like a visiting star of Berlinale. You might feel home in company of JFK or Marlene commemorated on canvas curtain portraits. Floor to ceiling windows add an extra visual effect to an open plan room/bathroom. The downstairs bar offer an enormous variety of vodka based cocktails. Try Philip’s, the bartenders’ own specialty: 52% ginger vodka. Room service is incredibly fast and attentive. Reception desk is efficient and flexible. Management does something right about their staff. They seem genuinely happy serving you and love their managers back. Amazing.

We stayed in Berlin at New Year, and this hotel was ideally located. the street it is on has many interesting and varied bars and restaurants, and is within walking distnace of the Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island and Unter den Linden. It is right next door to the Tacheles Ruins art comunity which may not be to "Daily Mail readers'" taste! The breakfast in the restaurant in the hotel was very good, if a little more expensive than nearby restaurants. It is a buffet so you can get your money's worth from it(!) The service in the bar in the hotel (the Velvet Lounge) was extremely slow the one time we used it. this was the only bad point.

Comments: The sink design is ridiculously sized and leaves no room for wash bag/ makeup bag/ contact lens equipment. (The long mirror under the T.V. is useless for applying makeup or inserting contact lenses as it is too low.) The red wine was terrible (old/corked - tasted like sherry) - once opened I could not drink it - but luckily when I mentioned this when checking out I was not charged for this.

This is a great boutique hotel in a very vibrant part of Berlin. The rooms are a bit small for what I'm used to, but there are many thoughtful touches and I really enjoyed the stay. Also, there are many restaurants, bars and sights nearby, I ended up always returning to the hotel area to hang out.

The Arcotel is a good 4 star hotel in a convenient and interesting location. The immediate area is red-light, and there is an alternative culture nightclub nearby (with little to recommend for the live music). The hotel is fairly new and the rooms are well appointed, if compact. We were generally pleased with the hotel.

Excellent location - many good restaurants nearby, including one next door. Easy to walk to museums, Unter den Linden, U-bahn and S-bahn stations. Nice design of interior. Good facilities. The only downside was the minimalist design of shower which was free standing in the bathroom, with no shower curtain or basin, and made the entire bathroom floor wet when used. Helpful front desk staff.

The room is fashion and has a modern and clean design, but could be more "friendly" to the guest: the front window (it is a "panoramic wall")occuping all the front of the room and this put on exposition the guest. To avoid this it is necessary to "adjust" (NOT EASY)every day the curtains

Very friendly staff. I am a frequent Hotel quest. Often the service is "cold" professional. Here the service is Friendly, helpful AND professional (Positively surprised!) Very nice place for Berlin Cultural Happenings - Not the official standard Potsdammer Platz stuff - But an alternative scene and a lot of good restaurants for a very moderate price. We visited the Blue Men Group at the Potsdammer Platz and we were astonished about the freezer atmosphrere (at 25C Temp ..) surrounding this "well known" place. Arriving at the Hotel we came in the middle of a very living street and stayed for hours instead of hitting the bed .

The hotel is excellent in almost any respect. The design of rooms is special, going beyond traditional boring, the quitness of rooms, the centrality, and easy access from the hotel to Berlin with public transportation. The view to the busy and "athentic" street (although one should be prepared to the prostitutes bugging men walking in this street). The only issue we had is regarding service. In the reception there is a huge poster inviting for a breakfast at 12.5 Euros. When we checked-out, we had to pay 15. Why? We were told that in one of the leaf letters inside the room, it is explained that you get this price only if ordering a day in advance. The poster did not say anything like that. This is very unprofessional to begin with. It is even more unprofessional to continue to argue with us, while refusing to charge the published price. Still, we would stay at this wonderful hotel despite this unpleasant service. Perhaps next time we will be ready for a “third-world” mentality in advance.

Arcotel Velvet is well positioned in the Mitte district offering guests easy access (by foot or S-bahn)to numerous top tourist attractions. The interior decor is great if you enjoy 'designer' hotel accommodation...full height street-facing glazed wall in some rooms and a bathroom that dissolves into the room without a dividing wall all adds to the visitor experience. Quality Thai restaurant opposite.
Mature couple
United Kingdom, Apr 2007
Extremely well situated for transport, restaurants, cafes, etc. - and especially for the main museums on Museuminsel, the Arcotel Velvet turned out to be an excellent choice. The reception staff could not have been more helpful and cheerful. There was a mistake over the number of nights in our booking (not their fault) and they sorted it out immediately. We had a second-floor room at the front (overlooking Oranienburgerstrasse) but, although the double-glazing cut the traffic noise to a minimum, we were awakened around 3.00 am by revellers emerging from the Tacheles complex next door. Next day we asked for a room at the rear, which was arranged without difficulty, and this proved to be very tranquil. The facilities were excellent (the free broadband access in the bar was very useful), although we didn't sample the breakfast, preferring to use the nearby cafes (usually "Ambulance", next door). Our second (rear-facing) room had no bathtub, just a (large and very efficient!) shower, but this was not a problem for us. All in all, we were very impressed - especially by the warm welcome and unfailingly cheerful service - and would definitely return to this superbly situated and well-run hotel.

The location is perfect, with dozens of inexpensive yet hip restaurants and bars lining the street (we liked the bar "O & G" for late night and the Indonesian restaurant Mirchi, both directly across the street from the Arcotel). Travelled the last weekend in November. The location is excellent; just yards from the U6-UBahn and good restaurants straight across the road. Two bakeries near by so no problem popping over to get 'breakfast on the go'. €3.50 for 2 crossants and 2 teas is much cheaper than in Dublin. Friendly staff and the room was ideal for 2 people. Very well located and calm. Personel was professional and always helpful. Rooms were reasonably spacious and modern. Excellent bed but pillows could be better. Very modern bathroom area. Price/quality was quite interesting for the area (110 Euros but no breakfast). Breakfast was somewhat expensive (15 Euros per person) but we guess that this is the typical method for any hotel to partially make up for the reduced income due to the internet method booking. Despite the 15 Euros, breakfast was quite good and also abundant. Avoid it and get a coffee outside only if you eat very little in the morning ...

The rooms are impressive at first view, but not very practical. You can't control either TV or DVD from the bed because of viewing angle, there was no room number on the door of the room ( 616) the price is high and everything is extra, like breakfast ( something that should be printerd on the print out , and something that should be said when checking in. I was not informed at check in , and was told the breakfast times, I assumed that this meant breakfast was included and was surprised at check out that had to pay 15 Euro for a breakfast, that I could have had much better food and much more friendly staff if I had just crossed the street. Only when I returned home and looked at the web site did I see that breakfast was not included, in small print at a not very obvious place on the web site. I think that you should make these things clear. For the price I would have given up on DVD and think that if a hotel is goind High tech then what about a coffee maker in the room!! ON the same trip I stayed at the comfort Auberge and it was Far ahead of vELVET IN FRIENDLENESS, VALUE FOR MONEY AND SERVICE, i KNOW THAT ON MY NEXT TRIP WILL not BE AT vELVET

DVD player a bonus for those cold wintery nights (hotel provdies DVD library for €5 a day). Lots of restuarants in immediate area - check out the Indian restaurant Amrit. Very close to U Bahn, tram & S Bahn. You won't want to leave your hotel room!!! We payed just €76 a night per room for this - RECOMMENDED

At first I was a little concerned about the locality of the hotel and the view from my room was not great but it turned out to be ideally situated for sight-seeing and the Fredrickstrasse station. The area was quite 'arty' and had many good, moderately priced and varied resturants and was quite lively in the evenings. My room was excellent and being at the back of the hotel meant it was very quiet, the view was not important. I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 days in Berlin and plan to go back as there was so much I didn't have time to see. I would definitely use the Arcotel Velvet again if the rate was as good

The Arcotel Velvet in Berlin has very nice and modern rooms and the street, Oranienburger Strasse, is very alive with lots of cafes and restaurants. A few things could be better: The aples in the rooms should be less old, the reception should have better touristinformation (like proper maps). But in general a very pleasant place to stay.
