Excellent staff, refurbished hotel and furnishings but old rooms, good choice for budget travel in a central location of a busy, dusty city.

You get what you pay for and for the price we can't fault this hotel. We stayed there for 7 nights and used it as a base to explore the region. It is handy for the town and the railway station which is about 10-15 minutes walk away. It can be a little noisy sometimes, it is not a 4 or 5 star hotel... so we didn't expect very efficient soundproofing, but we have known a lot worse and generally we slept well here. Going in the winter meant that we did not miss the fact that there is no AC in the room, which was warm and cosy. This may be a problem when the weather is hot? The English speaking staff were very helpful and if like us you are a smoker... there are rooms that cater to your preference. Overall we were happy with our choice which was not at the luxury end but adequate for what we wanted from it. Like many French 2 star hotels the decor in the rooms was fairly lurid, but it was liveable with. We never had breakfast at the hotel so we can't comment on that One tip... we were advised to avoid the slum area around the Palace of the Kings of Majorca (about a 20-25 minute walk away from the hotel)after dark, which seemed sensible and prudent, but we wandered around there in daylight with no problems at all.

We arrived a day early and didnt notice that we had only a shower into the bath. This was not good as there were no curtains to make sure the spray didnt go all over the bathroom. We moved next day to an adjoining room. Both room were a little small and the paintwork was a bit dowdy .The rooms both smealt of smoke but as they have no no smoking policy it is to be expected. The hotel is in and ideal spot for getting around although I did think the breakfast was no more or less than I would expect and we ate next door for less money and it was tastier.Staff were very pleasant and it was at the right price.

Receptionists were nice and speak english clearly and fluently. Rooms were quite clean and quite big, but unfortunately dark and very hot in summer, there was only a ventilator, no air conditioning. The city center is 10 minutes walking from this hotel.

The receptionist was very freindly and helpful and explained the location of local restaurants etc. The hotel was clean and well presented. There was a concern in leaving the bedroom windows open as they led onto a communial escape veranda. The description said thetre was a garage. This was not offered only the location of a local multi story garage at 14 euros a day. The breakfast was not as expected, for the same price the local cafes were much better. However taking into the consideratuin the garage and breakfast it saying all this it was a pleasant stay and I would use it again

Due to a weekend music festival there was no room in the garage and I had to park in the main street - a worry due to the number of people in the area. The staff were friendly but on the whole we found the hotel very basic.

Had perhaps the largest bathroom I will ever have in France. Located a quick 5 minute walk from the old town and about 10 minutes from the train station. Helpful, pleasant staff. It was a very good choice.

My son and I stayed for a Rugby League weekend (Friday to Sunday). We arrived at the Hotel before the recomended checkin time and were welcomed by pleasant staff who thankfully spoke some English. The twin room was clean although not the largest I have stayed in, had french doors and shutters opening onto a small balcony overlooking the main road "Boulivard Clemenceau". The front of the Hotel gets sunshine all day and if the shutters are left open expect the room to be hot in the evening (no aircon). With the window and shutters closed there were no noise issues from the road. Breakfast is continental and a short pleasant walk will take you to the centre of Perpignan. There are many shops, Restaurants, Cafe's and Bars where you can eat and drink (wine) at a reasonable cost, although if you would like a nice cold "Beer" they are charging the English 5 euro (and more) for the pleasure. Overall an excellent stay.

We went to Perpignan to see Hull FC v Catalans Dragons. The location of this hotel is fab, but a double superior room on the third floor was actually less superior than a single room on the fifth floor. the single room had a bed big enough for two people and the hotel information on the back of the door stated that the room could be used for two sharing. We will stay here again next year, but we will telephone them and book a room on the fifth floor. Fifth floor rooms also have small balconys if they face the street, whereas the lower rooms do not. The showers are also not fixed to the wall, they are hoses and heads that you need to hold yourself.

This was my second trip to Perpignan (rugby league trip) and my second stay at the Mondial. Once again, excellent service from the welcoming staff, room was clean and comfortable (although the lift's a bit rickety!) and I'd have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Certainly, were I able to go to the next game there in June I'd go back here and fully intend to do so when Warrington are in town in 2008! I will advise that the breakfast is a bit basic albeit cheap. But it's not included in the room price and there are other establishments in the vicinity that can provide something more substantial.

Only drawback if a non smoker as we are, is the smell of tobaco in the room & throughout the hotel. One area the French are behind the UK is is the level of smoking in public areas & restaurants. But on balance a good place for a short stay.

This is a very nice hotel for a short stay. The people are doing everything to make you happy, they speak excellent english and one of the staff is Dutch from origin. They have no restaurant but give good advice. Breakfast service is limited but there is juice and yoghurt and fresh bread. Moderate pricing. My wife and I will certainly come again on our way to Spain.

the room did not have air conditioning but the hotel did provide a fan which was a godsend ! on arrival therewas an electrical blackout whuch meant we had to go to the 4th floor up the stairs , not ideal but the problem was rectified eventually. The distance from the railway station was advertised as 500mtrs but it seemed a lot further than that.

The staff are very nice. Many speak English but are patient with a guest who's trying out his French. I would not hesitate to go back. The location is excellent.

I have nothing but praise for this hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. A good location as well, just a few minutes walk from the town centre. A good light breakfast available as well.

I was looking for a top end hotel in Perpignan and I have to say that Mondial isn't one of them. In fact I couldn't find any during my whole stay in that area of France. I only really went with Mondial because it was the most expensive at 53 euros a night - hoping that this would be reflected in the quality - but really you would be better off staying at the Ibis just out of town for 40 euros. In fact there's actually a little village of hotels just before the motorway outside of Perpignan that are modern and functional; Ibis, EtapHotel, Mercure ... stick with these. Anyway back to the Mondial the staff are friendly enough but really the decor is horrendous, tasteless and old - plastic flowers, fake stone walls (made out of plastic too!) beige and browns everywhere, suspect blankets, leaky toilets - all harking back to the glory days of the late 70s. The place needs to be knocked down. What else could I be paying for, centre of town - it's a good ten minutes walk from the pedestrianised bit ... what else, parking? nonexistent.

Good location, very friendly and helpfull staff. Rooms could do with upgrading, and hairdryers installed. Lack of parking might be a problem in busy months.
