Self Catering Apartment Residence Villa Il Glicine - Taormina

The Villa il Glicine is not an aparthotel as the ad said. We occupied one bedroom aptm.for two wheeks and they did clean our aptm. once after we insisted. There is no staff on the premises, except Mrs. Barbara (until 3p.m.)which doesn't speak any language, except polish and italian.The shower is together with the toillet in the same enclosure. To take a shower is an adventure, because the courtain doesn't inclose the shower so the bathroom will be flooded.It's too bad because this accomodation is well located, very central and quiet. The view from the balcony (any balcony of the property is awfull (some old houses, no sea view or Etna view as advertised)

Generally the Villa Il Gliicine met our expectations of an apartment, and is very central. Our reservations were: 1.The rather grumpy reception on arrival, 2. The apartment not being cleaned during our stay, with clean sheets left out for us to change. We were given one small toilet roll for the week 3. The interesting bathroom arrangement: the shower area encloses the toilet which gets soaked during the process of the shower. Secure parking is possible and worth having as there is nowhere to park in Taomina aside from a multistorey down the road. This accommodation would cater for a wide range of people looking for self catering in a more upmarket resort

Barbara the concierge is very helpful and friendly, but speaks no English. The premises are staffed mornings-only. Hence it's very difficult to get problems sorted out - we had numerous difficulties with electricity and plumbing, and had to spend one night without heating or lighting after the fusebox blew. The apartment was spacious and clean, but not particularly well-appointed: the double bed was 2 singles pushed together, with single sheets. No washing up liquid was provided for the kitchen, and we had insufficient toilet paper for the duration of our stay (extra was provided on request).

Minimum facilities provided; no soap, no dish washer detergent, no coffee or tea---nothing. Bathroom facility is terrible; shower water splashes directly onto the toilet right next to it - no consideration to have the shower curtain to enclose the shower. It is a pity for this poor arrangement, as the apartment itself can be very nice spot in town.

Vila Il Glicine was a great place to stay, right off the main street through Taormina, but set back in a quiet courtyard, and 2 minutes walk from the cable car to the beach. The property is clean, spacious and newly fitted out. The staff were friendly and helpful and the balconies and shared outside areas were kept spotless. This is a great place to base yourself for a few days in Taormina. The resort itself is full of expensive hotels and guesthouses, so this is a real find, central, spacious and a bargain. If you are expecting luxury, then you should try one of the hotels, but if you want a clean comfortable place to stay you couldn't do better. The only downside to this property is that because of it's situation in a courtyard set back behind other houses, there are no views, which in such a stunning area is a shame, but when you are two minutes walk from the spectacular town square with it's views out to sea and across to Etna, and the same distance from the transportation to the beach, this isn't a reason not to stay here. We stayed in September 07 (two friends) and had more space than we knew what to do with with the double room and open plan living/kitchen with double sofa bed. Highly recommended.
