We chose this accommodation because it was slightly outside of the centre of Siena, making it easier to rent a car and head off to surrounding destinations. (It's on a main route into Siena). It is still close enough to walk to the main sights. It was also a quick walk to the railway station. There was no breakfast but that was fine as we really needed a bed for the night as we were travelling around by day. My very basic Italian caused a few problems with the "receptionist" (a worker who lives on the property who speaks no English) on arrival about cash payment (no credit card facility), but the owner Sr. Pratelli speaks good enough English to get by. In its favour are a good location if you want to get a car, a sizeable and comfortable room that felt secure (lockable safe box too), and a nice garden if the weather is ok to sit outside. There is a nearby cafe that serves breakfast and good coffee. On the downside - the hot water tank is small leaving the second person little hot water for showering unless you wait a while, there were no clean towels or toilet roll without asking, and there never seemed to be anyone in attendance when we were there so we left notes in simple Italian requesting towels etc. To be fair we were away a lot and the receptionist may have been around a lot more than we witnessed. After staying in a lovely hotel in the centre of Siena for the previous 4 days, this was a bit of a drop in standards. However it served its intended purpose and if you want a simple budget room for the night while you explore I'd recommend it. The owner is very friendly and honest about the place. Probably better for travellers on a budget or younger travellers who don't require luxury. We used it as a base for day trips to Florence, San Gimignano and the Chianti region, and Rome. It was also easy to drive to Pisa for our flight home.

Very economical place to stay. Enjoyed nice garden. Negative points: On our own in this apartment therefore, no tourism information, maps, etc.

The rooms were beautiful and the host was most welcoming.

The hotel is quite far from the train station so we almost got lost trying to reach the "shelter" :) A welcoming girl could hardly speak or understand in English, somehow she explained that we shall expect neighbours arriving only the NEXT day. A couple of hours later, while I and my girlfriend were running around naked, the neighbours opened the door and saw us .... I was furious!!! :) The room (70 euro per night)included: no mirror, no rubbish bin (let along breakfast or cleaning).

No kitchen, no fridge, no cleaning tools, no internet, no service. The price is very high for too poor place. Any cheap hotel is better.

Good location and friendly staff. Free parking is a big benefit. Although cleaning is not provided we expected that the apartment had been cleaned before our arrival. Clean sheets and towels is not enough. There was no cleaning equipment, at all. Neither there wasn't a single wastebasket in any of the three rooms or toilet. "Self-catering apartment" is a misleading word: you might presume that there is some kind of kitchen or at least a coffee maker and some basic tableware. There was a fridge, though.

This was a very bad choice unfortunately. I have not been able to sleep because of the traffic going on all night and day. The window had to be open because of the heat. There is no insulation whatever between rooms, so when you have noisy neighbours you can hearthem loud and clear. No service except for two towels beginning of the week. Very bad value for 70 euro a night. Small room , very small bathroom. We really feel cheated. Jacobien

The stay was very good, especially for a couople of nights. Landlord is very polite, the location is strategic because very close to the city and also with a private parking inside. The room is large and quite clean. I was 100% satisfied!

We could not find a pay phone at night to call to get in [no pay phones in the area] and had to ask a store owner to call the owner on their cell phone so that we could get into our room. the room was beyond spartin, not even a trash can. smelly old blankets. we were given two towels that were actually hand towels and virtualy no heat as he promised. but the worse was that we had to pay in cash as the owner said that his credit card machine was broken. it cost us more money as we had to withdraw money and pay service charges at a ATM. it was the worse experience we had with all our hotel online reservations. horrible digs in a great location.

The Fonti di Pescaia offers excellent value for money. It's just a short walk to the nearest entrance to the old town (5-10 mins depending upon your pace) however the property is located on a busy road and if you're not in a room at the back of the building you might suffer from a little road traffic noise until the traffic calms down late at night. The main entrance to the property is located on the busy main road without any pedestrian path so I'd recommend using the garden entrance at the back of the property to get to and from the old town. These are minor negative points to be honest, the owner is lovely, the property is in good condition, rooms are basic (a rustic feel) and very clean. I'd stay here again.

We were quite disappointed, because the website indicated that this was an appartment with a kitchen, but all we had was a room and a bathroom without any services. Had we known this, we would have gone for a bed and breakfast or a hotel.

This is a great place to stay in Siena if you are renting a car as it is outside the city walls and has free parking available. It's only a 15-20 minute walk to the Campo, which is fine. Considering it's price, I would highly recommend staying here... I know we'll be the next time we are in Siena.

Self catering flat - 2 electric rings and a fridge. Not clean - all drawers and cupboards had to be wiped out before use. All kitchen utensils needed washing before use. We had to ask for clean towels, and more toilet paper. The property is situated right next to one of the main arterial routes out of Siena, and is very noisy 24 hours a day. Overall - not recommended, and I certainly wouldn't go back. The only plus points were Francesco, who runs the property for the owner - a font of useful local information, and very helpful at all times. In addition, the off road parking was good. Good points are, however, vastly overwhelmed by the bad.

This was our second stay at Le Fonti di Pescaia. The owner recognised us immediately after two years. There are now improvements like double windows against the noise. Another plus is that you can park your car for free.

We were met by Francesco, the recently employed manager, who was very helpful, even dropping us to the car rental office. However, the property did not have the promised cooking facilities - we had to boil water in a saucepan for a cup of tea and that was all we could use the kitchen (loose description) for! No air-con made it hot and noisy with the windows open. There is a very busy road outside the apartment. With air-con and properly kitted out kitchen we would consider returning as it is a very nice building.

We stayed in Siena only for one day, but we enjoyed it very much. The hotel is within a walking distance to centro storico and is very clean and nice. The only bad thing is that it is also close to the main road therefore you can forget about a quiet night. But generally we would definitely recommend this property to travellers looking for a clean and cheap accomodation.

This place was very nice. The gentleman who runs it was very helpful and friendly. The room was large, and the bathroom was clean. It's pretty close to everything in town, maybe a 5-minute walk. We liked it, though we got some bad weather :(

The place is a paradise in the middle of the city. Have a place to park a car. Owner is very responcive and helpfull, very nice man and will give you any help in local advice as far as food, places and events. Has a nice garden for a piknick or r and r. 7 minutes to the center on foot. Would stay again and again and again

Difficult to find. Need detailed map on website. Overall the premises were very well located for access to the city of Siena - 500metre walk to within the walls. However bathroom was very unclean (toilet brush disgusting) and we felt the need to wash the utensils and crockery in the kitchenette. The owner was very obliging, coming on his motor bike to help us locate the premises, and was very friendly. Overall we really enjoyed our stay, but a bit noisy from the street and also the neighbouring rooms.

Le Fonti is on a very busy street outside of the walls of Siena. The location, though, is very convenient if you have a car, as you can park in the garden for free and the towns walls are only about a 10 minute walk- at the most. Our room, did not have a window that faced the busy street, so the street noise was not disturbing to sleep. The heating in the room was not the warmest, and the shared bathroom was in need of a cleaning, as there was quite a bit of mold on the ceiling and between the tiles. The bedroom also smelled pretty musty. There was no real kitchen, just a closet, really with a disfunctioning stovetop and in bad need of a cleaning, though I don't think the kitchen was intended to be used by the guests. There is no breakfast served, but it is no problem to pick up a something good to eat in the area before heading off to the city. The owner was very friendly, though, since he does not live on site, I would recommend calling ahead of your planned arrival time so he can meet you at the house to give you the keys to avoid waiting outside.

We had a double w/ bath and it would be perfect in the springtime, but since we went in the winter and there were only wall radiators, it was very cold. But it was ok since there were extra blankets. It was a bit of a hassle if you don't have a phone to have to call the owner to get the key. But he is very nice and speaks a little English. The place is not really easy to find, and about a mile to del campo. I recommend going through the dog park as a shortcut. Overall we had a great time and find that it was a good deal for our money.

We are very lucky to stay at this nice place with only 45 euro (double room with shared bathroom). The room is clean and we are happy to have a very warm, shared living room. The owner was nice and gave some useful information. Only take 8 mins walk to the heart of Siena.

Siena isn't a big city, so rent a room at "fonti di pescaia" is a good solution for lowest budget. However, the neighbourood isn't very pleasant: the house is just between two gas-station and, above all, near a motorway... Very noisy : you cannot sleep windows opened... Last but not least: "Fonti di pescaia" is not an hotel, or a youth hotel. So, there's not daily hotel services... That's why the cleanliness of the rooms and bathrooms is unsatifactory.

This was a fine place to stay, a short walk from the Siena city walls. But it's very difficult to find if you are driving! It is set back off a main road behind a tall hedge with no street signage - very difficult to see from a car. Once you find it, you'll get a warm welcome from the friendly owner (who will tell you how he can't believe how people can't find the place) and have a comfortable, no frills stay.

We had a very warm welcome and the house is really within walking distance to the city centre. The rooms are very clean and have very good, new windows that need to be kept shut during the night due to the noise from the road outside. People suffering from hay fever to poplar trees should not choose this apartment during May, but otherwise it is certainly recommendable.

I would highly recommend staying here. It is really about a 10-15 minute walk Il Campo, but it is a pleasant walk and gives the opportunity to see more of Siena. The gentleman in charge speaks good english and is a really nice man.

This is in a great place. We were there during the off-season and had the entire building and ground to ourselves. While the "compound" itself is lovely, it is right off a main street, so getting in and out is a bit scary. Also, we were there in early December and it was very very cold even with the heat turned on. The owner was helpful, but he's off site, so there's no one around if you need an extra pillow or something like that, but he did leave us contact information and seemed very available, and we liked having run of the place. It's a bit of a walk to the town center, but really not too bad. We'd probably stay again, but not in the winter.

This place was such a nice surprise during our trip. very close to the walls of Siena, in a beatiful old but clean and comfortable house, plenty of space, nice garden, no parking problems. Quite a charming place to be. As there's no a reception, nobody was there when we arrived, so we had to call the owner, it was kind of difficult to find a telephone, but it worth the effort. The owner is such a nice and welcoming person. We had a very pleasant time here.

Good location somewhat difficult to find. Close to historic walls of town. On busy road, so not that great to stay outside in its garden, but it makes a good free car park. Windows sound-proof, so little noise. Bit warm though at night.

First of all it is on "Strada di Pescaia" NOT "Via Pescaia". They cheat with a wrong street name!! The Strada is really big and the House is inbetween two(2) gas stations! Otherwise the rooms were nice but loud, from the neighbours and from the streets. About 8 Minutes walk away from the entrance to the city centre.
