About Self Catering Apartment Castello di Monteliscai

apartment - exterior Self Catering Apartment Castello di Monteliscai apartment - exterior The beautiful apartment complex Castello di Monteliscai near Siena, was built before the year 1000 - but better information points to the year 1101 during the ancient Sienese Republic - and is situated on the summit of a hill in one of the most strategic panoramic positions of the area, only 3 km from Siena and near the Chianti region.

Each apartment recently underwent careful restoration to maintain original architectonic and decorative details. The Malafrasca Farm located next to the apartment complex, and run by the same owners, produces d.o.c.g. Chianti wine, extra virgin olive oil, Vin Santo and Chianti grappa.

The owner of the appartments are very friendly italian people with a "wide heart". Mam' and Dad of Helena (best english spoken woman in Malafrasca) were warm, friendly and generous. No better place in Siena. Thanks for all / Grazie

The host family was great. The grounds and area is beautiful. The only complaint we had would be the dampness of the apartment. The bathroom was small, but that wasn't a huge issue for us.

It's a freaking castle! A very nice place to stay out in the country, very quiet. The family we rented the room from has one section of the castle with three rooms which was nice for us because we took two of them and the third was empty, may have been a little less nice if another family was in the third room. Not walking distance from downtown, but there is plenty of parking right outside the town walls and even a series of indoor escalators up to the city itself. We would strongly recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay at Castello di Monteliscali. It was much fun to come to a real castle and stay in a roomy apartment. We were two couples in a two-bedroom, 2-bath apartment. The bedrooms were ordinary size, but there was a huge living room plus a separate dining area and a small kitchen. There was also a patio area with table and chairs in front of our apartment. We reached the owner's home, for check-in, with no problem by entering the address in our Garmin GPS. We received a very warm and friendly welcome, along with a taste of the dessert wine that the family makes. Elena, who speaks good English, then drove to the castle and we followed in our car. (It is not a practical place to stay if you do not have a car.) From the parking area, the apartment is located up a hill or a steep flight of steps. The only drawback to this apartment is that it would be difficult for someone who has difficulty walking. The apartment was clean and pleasant. The facilities are fine. The view from the castle is fantastic. You can also walk about a half-mile on the road at the foot of the castle's driveway (not the main SS408, though you could walk on that, too) which has some nice views of the adjacent valley. Not far from the castle is the small town of Ponte a Bozzone. There is a small market at which we were able to get all the supplies we needed. There are also two restaurants. One is an informal one with pizza and pasta dishes. It is fine for a simple, inexpensive meal. The other is Vecchia Osteria, a small, family-run restaurant. We had a wonderful dinner there. The hostess/waitress was very friendly and helpful in recommending good dishes and an excellent wine. It was one of the best dinners of our trip, and I highly recommend it. Be sure to make a reservation or get there early. More at http://www.ristorantichianti.it/english/vecchiaosteria.html. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

Room with good view and very very quiet surrounding. It's difficult to reach the house without car. We stayed for two nights, however, it was a pity that they didn't make up the bed.

It is not a bad place to stay, but few things could be better. The room was with dust everywhere and did not cleaned for four days. They only took away the bin.We didnt ger any new towels for the whole stay.Surroundins are very nice,it is close to Siena(3-4 minutes drive)but honestly it was not what we expected. It was cold in the nights but the heater in the room did not work.Anyway you are in there to sleep and take a shower, everything around is beautiful and breathtaking. One or maximun two nights is enough to stay at this apartament.

This place was really fabulous. It was very clean and spacious. We loved being out in the country for one night one our trip. Note that it was very difficult to find - but it was worth it! The owners are very kind. We would definitely come again.

Though it was an appartement with shared kitchen for 3 other rooms and shared living room, it was a bit difficult with the other guests staying there at the samt time. They where very dirty, not washing there dishes after having something to eat. But after they had gone it was a wonderful stay. Beautiful location.

If you want the experience of staying in a historic castle with modern conveniences - this is a great place. I could just imagine myself looking out of the window watching for raiders coming from Florence! Fabulous views from the hilltop. Just beware of the steep stone stairs going up the hill to the castle.

This is a very interesting place stay. I am not sure my wife and I will ever have the opportunity to stay in a castle again. The castle is outside of Siena. I would assume you would need to have a car to get to it. Also, it might be tricky to find. We relied on our GPS unit and the coordinates they provided us. I wish I could remember the details off hand, but the coordinates we were provided were incorrect and there was a digit missing. I was able to figure out the missing digit and make the correction and then everything was fine. When you first check in you will need to arrive at the family's home and then they will take you to the castle. The family gave us a very warm greeting. We met four members of the family. They provided us with a sample of the wine they make. It is available for purchase at a very reasonable price. The owners do not speak much English at all. We had a bit of trouble communicating with them but wife was able to speak a bit of French to them (their French being much better than ours). Their daughter however is able to communicate quite effectively in English. The area surrounding the castle is beautiful and worth driving around in. We went for a few walks from the castle which was nice. There were some loud barking dogs nearby which were annoying and a bit intimidating. Inside the apartments you will not hear anything from outside because the walls are very, very thick. The apartment also stays very cool because of these thick walls. It did feel a bit too damp in the apartment but it wasn't overly uncomfortable. All the kitchen appliances worked well. The apartments are very spacious and were fairly clean. There may be some cobwebs visible on the ceiling but nothing that bothered us. I would highly recommend taking the opportunity to stay at this unique apartment. It is a little out of the way and there are no stores or anything within walking distance. Also, it should be noted that because the castle is built on

This is a great place to stay if you are interested in being in the countryside. The property is on a hill with beautiful countryside views. My only feedback is that the property is a historic castle, so you have to park at the bottom of some very steep and old stone steps or travel round the rocky driveway. It's also a good drive into Sienna, which itself is also very hilly so I think we just felt a big isolated and probably are more suited to staying nearer the town where we could walk easily in and out of the property. If you had an older family it would be ideal to rent out the entire space as there is quite a massive shared area and bedrooms. The owners are absolutely lovely and they had an interpreter there to help. I would highly recommend this property - just wanting to note the limitations we found.

We enjoyed our stay at Castello di Monteliscai. The bedrooms were very comfortable and roomy, each with its own bath. I would have liked more comfortable seating in the living room but overall, we were delighted. ONE REQUEST: It would be very helpful if we had received a detailed map on how to find the castle and the agriturismo office PRIOR to our arrival. We encountered difficulties in finding these places.

it was wonderful staying in a castle overlooking Siena. It could use more lighting inside.

We enjoyed staying at the Castle but the steep stairs to the bedroom were difficult and also for the bath. Towels and cleaning were left to us unless requested specifically which was good for privacy but not for cleanliness. The one problem was the isolation with no phone service even to the proprietors. We did enjoy the history of the place and the views from the hill and our welcome was very helpful.

The only problem we encountered was finding the property. The address given is for the castello, which is fairly easiy to find although there are no numbers or names on the doors. However the reception is located at a different site. This was very confusing. There needs to be a more detailed map with the address of both properties. Also there needs to be more information about disabled access. The catello apatments can only be reached by very steep stairs which have no hand railor lighting. My mother found it impossible to climb so we had to stay in the farm house instead. Apat from that we had a wonderful stay. The owners were so kind and welcoming and provided us with exceptionally clean linen.
