It is definitely a long walk (200 steps) down to the apt. You need to be traveling light and be an avid walker - but that is why people go to Cinque Terre. We have kids and were staying a while so we had too much luggage. We were able to arrange to have it transported up by the small rail or we would have died. We were given a property that had leaks and not set up (no sheets provided -- by the way in Italy you often have to make up your own beds so don't be surprised). When we phoned up, after unpacking, we were assigned a new apt. This on was MUCH nicer, larger, better view and I do not understand why we weren't given it in the first place. We were paying for one of the larger properties so it wasn't a step up in price. We were off season and so it was quiet but not empty. Kitchen facilities are minimal but OK for breakfasts and a great view on patio if weather is good. I would NOT recommend this if you do not have a car. Transportation by bus is sporadic and the property is somewhat isolated. Do not go here if you are allergic to cats or hate them - there is a cat house on the property and you will see three or four wherever you are - they will be on your patio and will try to come in.

Great hotel!! far better than the pictures. views are astonishing, the rooms are nice and quiet. A bit too many stairs to walk if carrying big bags. The restaurant is excellent; if you go, try the seafood starters entree...beautiful. Stay 2 nights at least, it is worth it...

Fantastic ambiance and beautiful views. Rooms comfortable, spacious, and well integrated with the general area. Staff friendly and accommodating. Not really within walking distance of Riomaggiore if you have baggage, but the excellent local bus service takes care of that issue. Would definitely stay here again.

We had a marvelous time at this hotel ! We had an appartment with a spectaculor view on the ocean named "Papavero" ! Be aware... There was about 200 stairs from the reception to our appartment... But when you see the view, the effort is worth it. The staff were very nice and good people. Cinque Terre is a fantastic place ! Don't miss the "Amore walk" between Riomaggiore and Manarola. The only burden at that place is the shuttle; there's not enough bus; if you miss it, you're stuck there for about 2 or 2.5 hours until another shuttle passes... Plus, they are often late... You can't walk the distance between the hotel and Riomaggiore; it's too far so don't miss your bus because it's a long wait...Because there's A LOT of stairs, the manager should think about a way to bring down, and back up when we're leaving, our luggage to our room. This service is usually offered when you're on a cliff like at Positano.

This is the first time I stayed at Il Borgo. Each appartment has it's own terrace overlooking the sea - the views are amazing. However, beware! I asked for a two room appartment (sleeping 3) to share with my father, expecting there to be 2 bedrooms. There were indeed two rooms, but one was a bedroom (with the one bathroom en suite) and the other was the kitchenette / dining room / lounge. The facilities are fairly basic, but this is compensated for by an incredible setting, parking (!) that is available on the road immediately outside and flexibility to eat at the restaurant there or cook for yourself. I would certainly stay there again, but probably not on my honeymoon!

Amazing. The cottage is like something out of a fairy tale the way it is perched on the edge of the Mediterranean. Unfortunately, I didnt ask the name of the wonderful lady and her husband who run the place.. but they cooked the most amazing pasta for us when we arrived late in the evening. The restaurant was closed, but they still made us this lovely pasta that we will remember for a while. A couple of things about location: 1. Pack light if you arrive after 6pm. The walk to the bus station is not an easy one. You are going uphill for about 1km. Also you will have to carry your heavy suitcase up and down the stairs (about 150 stairs) to your cottage after you check in at the hotel. We left our heavy luggage in the lobby and just took smaller back packs down to the cottage. 2. When you get out of the train station in Riomaggiore, make sure you go through a tunnel to get to the town center. If you dont go through a tunnel, you are going the wrong way. We came out of the info kiosk and went straight up the road right outside the station. Do not do this! We walked for a while with heavy baggage before some kind souls gave us a ride in their car to the bus stop. If you go through the tunnel, the walk to the bus station is not that bad. If you get there earlier in the day, the bus stops closer to the station.

We chose one of the smaller units and although it was small it suited our needs adequately. The views were fantastic. The AC was noisy and it provided minimal cooling. A circulating fan would have been appreciated. The staff were very friendly and helpful, bus service to Riomaggiore was a little confusing but manageable.

First Time to Cinque Terre. 22 Aug 2009. Hotel located right off the road. Hotel is tiered down the side of the hillside. No one was there when we went to check in so we had a drink overlooking the fantastic views at a roadside bar that is less than 50 meters away. After our drink, we were able to check in. Lots of steps to room. They do have a mechanism to get your luggage down if need be. Room was adequate. Views out the the two small windows were exceptional. They do have terraces located around but there are some rooms with thier own terrace. Ours was not. Air conditioner is a must and ours did not function. It was clanking and was extremely load and not putting out sufficient air. Could not sleep with it on and to hot to sleep with it off. Told management and they said oh well. We'll get it taken care of. No credit or apology for the inconvience.

The surroundings of this property are unreal - simply stunning views. The host was very helpful, took care of our luggage as you have a pretty steep descent, something like 200 steps from the reception to the actual rooms. But we didn't have to drag our bags up and down those steps, they have a cable car and took care of it for us. The breakfast was very good and the view from the restaurant terrace is to die for!!!

Beautiful view!! Right on the cliff overlooking the ocean. Restaurant looked fantastic, although did not eat there as was ill on my stay. The staff were very friendly - the manager made me a tea to soothe my cough!! The room was spacious and you have lots of space to sit outside and take in the scenery. It is not very close to the village but the shuttle busses are okay and cheap. The view is worth it. It feels like you have the whole of the Med to yourself.

We arrived late. They were nice to wait for us. Was really surprised of the room. I booked 2 room apartment. It was actually one room + one living room with convertible beds and the room was very small. The name is Pervinca and cost 152euros a night. Dust rolling along the corner. More surprising that after long journey and late at night we have to make our own bed(they only left pile of sheets and pillow cases on the bed)! Luckily they looked clean. Toilet was very small and rusty with no ventilation. They had some little repare work to do in the village and they started quite early, so don't expect a good sleep. No croissant in the morning as they mention in the menu. The only positive point I would say is the nature and view that has nothing to do with the hotel. They just happened to be there to make money. But looks like accommodations in the whole 5 terre is like this.

Simply put, Borgo di Campi is the most beautiful hotel i have ever imagined. We stayed in a triple (with two people), so we had plenty of space. Our friends had a double, still plenty of space. There are convenient kitchens in each room and a balcony on the triples, making our social dinners the highlight of our trip. The house wine was great, the restaurant phenomenal, the staff wonderful, and the views stunning. The only drawback (double edged sword really) was that it was quite a hike up the road from Riomaggiore, so we had to catch the bus at spotty times and the last one at 6, or tough it up and walk about 4k uphill. On the flipside, we were secluded. All six of us can't wait to get back to the Cinque Terre, and Borgo made it so wonderful. I almost hate to give it the true review so we can be the only ones there, if everyone knew how great it was, it'd be swamped. I highly recommend it.

Fantastic place just outside the Riomaggiore. The views were wonderful and really enjoyed the dinners watching the sunsets! Early accounts commented that the shuttle service from Riomaggiore had the last bus at 6:30. When we arrived they had switched to the summer schedule with 3 additional bus after 6:30 with the last at around 11. Enjoy!

The house wine was excellent a definite must try. Unfortunately on our second night the next door neighbours were very loud until the early morning, which was very disruptive of the otherwise tranquil and beautiful venue. The steps with luggage are a work out in themselves though so be warned but they should not discourage you from staying here.

Awesome view! Our room, like many others, had a private terrasse. Useful kitchette to spend more time in the room, enjoying the view. Only a few minutes away from la Spezia... What an awesome place is the Cinque Terre and the position of this lodge highlights all the area has to offer. Incredible views, incredible old stone buildings, built down the cliff face. Had no problems with the stairs, even with creaky knees, there are plenty of landings to stop, and take in the view while recovering to attempt the next section. Wonderful food at the restaurant, one of the best meals we had in Italy. Friendly staff. Yes we had to make our beds, but as they say in Italy, Allora. Would recommend a stay here to anyone except the very infirm. The only point to offer is that they should sell Post Cards of their establishment looking up from the ocean. Would be a good seller, I'm sure. Thank you for your hospitality, Il Borgo di Campi.

Cinque Terre is one of the most beautiful spots on earth we think. Other tourists in the area seem very nice and talkative. The view of Il Borgo di Campi is fantastic and the price of the rooms okay, so we would surely want to stay there another time. The owners are nice and friendly although the staff in the restaurant seemed a bit ineffective and slow. We enjoyed our stay a lot, but must mention the bad smell from the toilet/bathroom. If we had to stay another night we would have asked for other rooms. Best regards Lisbeth Ingerslev

Kind and helpful staff. Quiet and clean apartment. Fantastic landscape. Individual garden with intimacy appreciated. Breakfast is good value for the money. Walking up and down the many stairs – between the many cats – is finally effortless and the place is worth it. More frequent buses to Riomaggiore would have been better but nothing to do with the residence. A very pleasant stay.

Wonderful view from the terrasse of the restaurant but not so large from the room (depends of course of the room you receive and you will feel frustrated if you don't get the best ones in such surroundings). Do not wait for any help in carrying your luggage after the lift has brought them closer from your room, but not very close... Very bad smell from the bathroom. You have to do your bed yourself when you arrive. Riomaggiore is not the nicest village of the cinque terre, but is a good departure point for a walk from monterosso back to riomaggiore when taking a boat in the morning.

This hotel has many steps to climb to your room. It presents more like a lodge or cabin than a hotel. It is also difficult to locate with 2 short bus rides from the bottom of the mountain; however, strict schedules with 4 options per day. Great restaurant....

We really enjoyed our four days in Il Borgo di Campi. We arrived late, and had not read the small print to see that we had to check in before 8. The guy was annoyed but let us in. It was far to carry the suitcases to get to anf from the appartment, but once there it was worth it. I think the name of our appartment was Glacine. If I were to stay again? I think I would ask for it by name - not all the other one's had as nice or big, or well placed balcony... It's a bit of a distance to Riomaggiore, so I think you have to have a car, or be a proper hillwalker. We are not but we had a car, and all we wanted for the four days was a place to relax and enjoy the view and weather during the day, and for it to be close enough to pop into Riomaggiore to go for dinner in the evening. It was just th sort of place we wre looking for!

Gorgeous views, convenience of having a kitchenette and separate apartment. However, a few issues that we could plan for next time. The do-it-yourself cleaning is good in theory, except for it was obvious that the previous visitors skipped that step on their way out. We were only staying two nights, but we cleaned up with what we could find there. For a longer stay I would bring a few cleaning supplies like an all-purpose spray or something. The other issue we had was the centipedes. We came in one evening, turned on the lights, and there were four or five centipedes on the walls/ceiling. Creeped me out, and I'm a biology teacher. I love creepy crawlies. Just not in my bedroom. So we killed the ones we saw. Then we went to dinner, came back, turned on the lights and there were three more. So we slept with the lights on both nights to keep the centipedes in their hiding places. Next time I'd bring bug spray. But I'd still probably sleep with the lights on! The cats were cute and friendly, but the one-eyed cat was a bit creepy. The restaurant was great, we sat RIGHT on the edge of the balcony, which freaked me out a bit, as I am deathly scared of heights. After being here though and going up and down the stairs a few times, and drinking a bottle of limoncino on a terrace overlooking the Mediterranean, I got over my fear of heights a bit. By the way, the apartment we were in was the Papavero. Our area was fine, but we did notice the sewage odors that others have mentioned in other areas on the site. The luggage trolley worked well for us on arrival, but we had to do an early morning departure, so we had to carry it up the stairs ourselves. It was do-able, but I wouldn't recommend it!

I guess you all have seen pictures from Cinque Terre with amazing views over the sea and coastline. The reality is even better. Il Borgo di Campi is a small village clinging on to the steep slope 2-300 meters above the sea. The apartments are in different sizes and are all named after flowers. The view from the window could knock you down! On the furnished patio surrounded with small hedges of rosmary, you can watch the sunset and taste the local wine.Smashing!! It is very quiet. The staff is very nice and helpful. Next to the reception, there is an excellent restaurant. From the reception you have to walk down to the apartments; someone said it is some 270 steps! Nevermind, you can have your luggage transported on a small monorail up or down, so don´t worry. Since Il Borgo is situated 4 km east of Riomaggiore you should have a car, it makes things much easier. We can certainly recommend these apartments to people who wants a relaxed time off.

The facilities were nice and the views were excellent. Anyone considering this facility must know it can only be accessed by bus. The winter bus schedule is very restrictive - 0720, 0955 into town and 1820 back from town. The proprietor was reluctant but did pick us up when we arrived and had missed the last bus. Overall, the stay was nice and the staff friendly and helpful.

We stayed in Riomaggiore for three nights and absolutely loved the area. The apartment was quite nice with two rooms and a view to die for and really had all you needed for a breakfast (including coffee maker) and light dining. There is restaurant and bar (200 steps -- I counted) above so you could always get a dinner (except Monday) if you didn't want to stay in town and try to walk back the apartment. The outdoor area for our apartment left much to be desired. Try to get an apartment with its own terrace for private sunset viewing. This isn't a place for you if you don't like cats. It is quite a way from the Riomaggiore center and the quickest way to get there is walking on a rather trecherous road. If you are real walker, stay a couple of days and after the tourist laden trip between the Cinque Terre, get the 6 euro map from the front office and take some of the walks at the top of the hill -- they are wonderful and less travelled by tourists. The trails are well marked and always lead to a lovely little town with a bar and/or restaurant en route.

Very poor communication on the shuttle service. We did not know the implication of such few times for the shuttle and that the last shuttle leaves at 6:30 p.m. from the TOP of the street and not at the bottom. More info needs to be give to the customers who need to use this service. We were stranded on night and the hotel owner was not happy to have to come and pick us up. The room had many small ants that kept biting us and no spray around available to us.

We enjoyed our stay, but our apartment was not very clean. In fact, I had to clean it up (fortunately the broom was provided). Although we did not have supper there, which we wish we did, because we wanted to do so much other things and had little time so we were not able to experience the food. The view from our window was incredible and the stairs to get to and from the room was what made it more real to fully appreciate the landscape and the incredible coast of the cinque terre. I would definitly return. We were there with two teenagers who loved it and also adored the cats and found that they never bothered us. They were especially in love with little 'cicchina' the little blind cat. The rooms were spacious and the sheets were crisp and clean and white. The luggage was a bit of a struggle but they assisted us with a trolley that lowered the baggage close to your location. You couldn't be where you were without some work in getting your luggage there. Well worth it.

Beautiful setting, excellent restaurant (opens at 8 pm - closed Mondays and no lunch) Rooms are small with low doorways - be careful, taller people! The steps are not really an issue. Good quiet home base to explore Cinque Terre; we had a rental car, and found parking difficult in the towns. Suggestion: drive to either Riomaggiore or Manarola, then park and take the train to get to each village. The train is fast, and it puts you close to everything.

We had one of the downstairs rooms (can't remember the name). From the moment we walked in, the smell of cat urine was in the air, especially in the bedroom just outside the bathroom door. This was our only complaint but it was so bad that we couldn't wait to get out of the room each morning, and would never come back to your resort again. Such a shame as the location was so beautiful. Someone should keep the cats out of the rooms and scrub the floor with Clorox.

This is really getting into quiet. We loved it and wished we planned an extra day just to enjoy the views and setting of Il Borgo di Campi. Plenty of parking and close to Riomaggiore where we did our morning shopping for cooking in our apartment.

It would be interesting to say : - that the hotel is at 4 km over Riomaggiore and we must pay parking at Riomaggiore. - it is possible to eat (dinner) at the hotel's restaurant (excellent). The price is the same than in village's restaurant.

Wow! This place was a slice of heaven and such a welcome place after the noise and crowds of Siena and Rome. The host was so gracious. We missed our bus to the train and he brought us into town. We interrupted his Sunday and he was so nice. Clean, quiet. I wish we'd have booked a week there. We will be back.

our apartment had beautiful views out to sea, and was very spacious. beds comfy, bathroom roomy. the restaurant was also lovely, and it was probably a good thing we had to climb 200 steps to get to it! the one thing that wasnt so good was the smell left behind by the (very cute!) cats, not only outside but occassionally we could smell it inside. all up though, we would definitely recommend the apartments - a lovely place to stay in a beautiful part of the world!

Il Borgo di Campe was a beautiful apartment to stay in. The view is awesome. GiGi was very helpful. Our train was late arriving (train strike) so we missed the last bus, he was gracious and came into town and picked us up. After being on numerous trains for 12 hours this was very appreciated. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good and we sat outside and watched the sun go down. Make sure you get a copy of the bus schedule. There is a small store as you come up the main road in Riomaggiore that sells food. We picked us salads, milk, bread , wine etc. We were able to eat in our room a couple of nights. The steps are many so you need to be in good shape for walking. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend staying here.

The hotel is nice and the room was spacious and clean. We had a very nice view of the sea. We were lucky that the other guests were quiet because you can hear every thing. The owner is rude and not helpfull at all. The parking is very small and always full.

We were traveling by train and bus. Not reasonable to walk to hotel. NO taxis. The bus service to Riomaggiore if very infrequent, sometimes 4 hours between buses in peak summer season. Why not more buses? There was clearly demand. Beautiful location. Apartments darker than expected, but great views, and space to sit and dine outside. Apartment kitchens minimally stocked.

The location was an outstanding experience far beyond our expectation.Easy to reach by car, nice and cosy rooms, quiet environment outside the tourist mainstreams and still a good conection to Riomaggiore(bus or car). But best of all,the fantastic view over the sea and the cliff. The best stay for cinque terre.

I gave this property and excellent rating because it really is a gem. The view is spectacular, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, the employees are helpful. There is also a very good restaurant with a nice waitress (amazing find in Italy!) on the property, that I would recommend. There were just two areas for improvement. The first is that the price on Venere was not the actual price; before I booked it, the property confirmed with me that the price for the room was actually 15 euros more per night. It was well worth it, so I was happy to pay it, but it would be better to get that straightened out with Venere.com ahead of time. The other problem was that the pictures on the property's website, which by and large were accurate, had one flaw when it came to our room ("Ibisco"). What appeared to be the view from our room was not the actual view. And, we expected to have a little private fenced in garden space off the room with an unobstructed view of the sea; we did not have this (there was a semi-private place to sit, but not with a view). Still, the view from our window was nice and there was plenty of common space on the property (benches and tables) where we could sit and enjoy unobstructed sea views. There are rooms on the property that have private seating areas with amazing views, but not our room. All in all, I would definitely stay there again, even if the only room available was the one in which we stayed.

We stayed here for 3 nights in mid May. The view from the apartments is absolutely gorgeous and we could not have asked for a quieter night of sleep. The only drawback is the distance from Riomaggiore. You can walk from the bottom of town to Il Borgo di Campi in about 1 hour all uphill. The shuttle bus run by the national park stops right by the entrance of the hotel, but there are only 4 buses per day with the last one leaving at 6:20 PM. The best thing to do is pick up a bus schedule from the national park office at the train station when you arrive. Other shuttle buses will get you near the hotel, but you will still have to walk about 2.5 Km which takes about 30 min. After the walk from town to the hotel the 200 stairs to and from the apartments were pretty negligible. The staff was very accomodating. After walking to the hotel for 30 minutes with our backpacks on our first day we found out the restaurant was booked for the night. The receptionist made arrangements for us to stay and eat at the restaurant when she recognized we were not up for walking all the way back to town. The meal was well worth the stay too - some of the best we had on our trip.

This place is absolutely incredible! The rooms are adorable, and have a little kitchenette with all the necessities for cooking. The washroom is very nice, and had the best shower that I experienced my whole trip through France and Italy (very important to some people, definitely to me). The staff were very friendly and welcoming. There are a lot of stairs to get to the cabins, but for that view it's so ridiculously worth it it's unbelievable. Do not go to the Cinque Terre region and miss staying at this place!

Beautiful place. It's just outside the town of Riomaggore so having a rental car was really helpful so that we didn't have to rely on the bus. Bring your bug spray since you are right there on the mountain with many critters. The patio right outside our room was wonderful. Great view of the ocean alongside grape vines and fig trees. Amazing!

Yes, there are 200 steps. However, if you are reasonably fit and have carryon luggage...no problem. A little out of the mainstream of the Cinque Terre but that has its pluses. Bus service is good to Riomaggiore but means you must come back early (6 pm). Be prepared to eat in restaurant or cook for evening meal!

CANNOT RECOMMENDED IT HIGHLY ENOUGH. BEST accomodation I've ever stayed in during my 16 day trip. Brings you back to the flintstones ages, a whole new world! Very close to the nature, views and surroundings are GORGEOUS. Away from the touristy and hustle, bustle of staying within the Cinque Terre towns. Getting around Cinque Terre from Il Borgo is a little tricky if you do not have a car, as buses are infrequent. Walking up and down the steps may also be a problem if you travel heavy. Once at any of the Cinque Terre towns, get a 1 day pass that allows you to take unlimited train rides and walking trails is E5.40.

This place has a beautiful location but that's about all it has to recommend it. Many of the staff members are rude, the grounds need a lot of maintenance work and the rooms are very tired and musty. It has the feel of a backpacker and would be a good place for young people who are interested in saving some money by cooking their own meals.

This is a beautiful place but felt the apartments could be cleaner. Was also the only place I have stayed where we had to put the sheets on the beds ourselves. Definitely a HARD walk up and down the steps. The restaurant there had some of the best food we ate on our trip. Wish we had known that the first night because it was a lot better than the restaurant in the village.

The views were wonderful, but you have to know which room you will have to get the best view. Though the rooms were clean, I thought it was strange that I had to make my own bed up upon arrival. We did eat in the restaurant for dinner. The steamed mussels were the best we have ever had, but the pasta was cooked with too much salt. Made the meal hard to eat. A lot of steps. Had taken a fall when I missed a step in the dark. One thing inconsistent about the web site and reality is that the luggage tram wasn't in operation. So I didn't mind climbing myself up and down 200 steps, it was hard to do with all our bags.

Great apartmetn with terrific restaurant on site. Very helpful & welcoming staff. Location is easier with a car, easy drive to shuttle bus location. Only 2 buses per day come to apartments. The 200 steps in and out of the complex are just a taste of what the Cinque terre has to offer!

Fantastic location. But, because it is some distance out of Rio Maggiore, without a car you are dependent on the local bus. There was no bus to the hotel between 2.30pm and 6.30pm, and nothing after that in the evening, which made our days' outings more complicated. Excelent food in the restaurant. We self-catered mostly and the equipment was rather basic. We recommned it as a great place to stay.

This campo is not for the faint of heart! It was 200 steps down to our little apartment. Still, we loved it. It was at the end of our trip, so we were happy to have a kitchen where we could make dinner and eat with a view of the Mediterranean. The beaufitul thing of Il Borgo is that you are absolutely immersed in the hillside beauty. We will go back for sure.

Our family of four spent two wonderful days at this hotel. We had a two-room, two-bath suite with kitchenette, overlooking the beautiful coastline of the Cinque Terre. We had a 3-night stay in mid-Sept. First night was in a very small 1 bdroom with hardly enough room to turn around with no windows. Linda gave us a better room the final 2 nights that was much nicer. A room with a view is worth the extra cost. Food was excellent at their restuarant! Very friendly staff. Be prepared for the stairs to and from room to the road.

Unfortunately we were given the worst apartment in the complex (possibly because we looked like young backpackers). Our aircon wasnt working, we had no windows and no views like the other apartments. The surroundings were stunning though so we just avoided our room and stayed out for most of our stay. We definately didnt get value for money since some people that had paid less had a much bigger and nicer apartment with a fabulous view. Our room called Lobelia was more like a dungeon and I would recommend anyone staying here request NOT to be put in this apartment!

The place has amazing views as it is perched on the side of the cliffs overlooking the sea. Saw some amazing sunsets. Food was brilliant too. If there was a downside, it's that the place is about 4km from Riomaggiore. We had to walk and it was uphill - took us an hour with our backpacks - but it was well worth it in the end! there are buses but they are not frequent - Best to find out the timetables first if you dont want to walk or wait. The owner was excellent though. He gave us a lift to the station on our way back at 0630am as there were no buses running then! First class hospitality and i'll definitely go back again!

This was such an outstanding location. Having an apartment for a base camp to hike Cinque Terre was a treat. Our unit was quiet and the views were outstanding. Parking for your car is a plus in this region and with proper planning the stair climb to your apartment is not a problem. Get used to climbing in this area! The bus ran on schedule, but start early if you want to complete the hike during the hot summer. We caught the 7:30 bus and did not regret losing a bit of sleep! A perfect place to stay if you have several days and want great views with your peace and quiet.

Because of a train strike we arrived very late, about midnight. There was still someone there to welcome us and take us to our room. The 200 steps are easier going down than they are going up. When we woke in the morning and opened the shutters, we saw that we were on the side of a hill, overlooking the grapevines and looking right into the sea. It was stunning. The room was clean and fine for the three of us. There is a restaurant at the hotel but we did not eat there except for breakfast which is not included. On the last day, we were able to eat at the hotel restaurant area and eat the food we bought in town the day before. Overlooking the water and the cliffs. I don't know how anyone could get to this place without a car. Park the car though and use the shuttle. Parking is very difficult in town. I loved this place and would definitely go back.

Our room was very humid and smelled of mildew. The view was fantastic and the restaurant was very nice. The communication between Riomaggiore and Borgo di Campi though, was bad - the bus should go more often. We had our own car, but as it was very difficult to find a parking spot down in Riomaggiore we were more or less forced to take the little bus... Otherwise - a magnificent area

This is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Il Borgo doesn't provide you with an experience of living in one of the 5 villages (Riomaggiore is the nearest village and a good 30 min walk or 10 min bus) but what it does offer is extraordinary panaromic sea views and wonderful tranquillity. It more than makes up for the 200 odd stairs. Be prepared to structure your day around the bus timetables (you should enquire about these in advance), and don't expect to be able to wander casually down to the village for dinner - the uphill walk home would kill you! The Il Borgo restaurant is very good (although doesn't open on Mondays). This is a different kind of Cinque Terre experience, but one that we would happily recommend and would certainly do again.

Spectacular view. However, be prepared to walk up hundreds of steps to get to your car, bus, or the restaurant. Innkeeper went out of his way to be helpful, even driving into town to pick us up when we arrived. If you have a car, the location is not inconvenient. However, the inn is located about 10k (uphill) from the train station and town, and one is dependent on the national park's shuttle bus. In May, it ran only 3 times in the a.m. and once in the afternoon. This really limits how one can plan the day. Also, bus was often late and/or terribly overcrowded. Food at the restaurant was excellent and comparably priced.

This hotel is beautifully located on the side of a mountain overlooking the water. It is a 5 minute drive from Riomaggiere but the hotel owner offers pick-up at times and there is a bus that runs infrequently during the day. The property is wonderful, spacious rooms, gorgeous view, they even have a small vineyard as you walk to your room. I wouldn't recommend it for senior travellers as there are quite a few steps (it is on the side of a mountain). There are also tables and chairs scattered throughout the property to offer a bit of privacy if you like.
