Self Catering Apartment Villaromantica - Massa Lubrense

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Villaromantica June 22-24th 2008 in the Magnolia apartment. We are fairly easy going travellers and don't usually have many complaints in our accomodations. We booked based soley on the recommendations of Venere and Trip Advisor Websites, but were very disappointed in our stay. Villaromantica is indeed on property with lemon and olive trees, however, the romance ends there. We were a great distance from Sorrento and spent a minimum of 5euros per day on bus tickets back and forth to the apartment as well as many wasted hours waiting and on buses. Massa Lubrense was within walking distance but offered no sort of appeal and cannot be compared to Sorrento in terms of amenities, restaurants or views. We were initially impressed that the property manager picked us up and drove us to the property, giving us a tour and many directions, however soon realized this would be the only way anyone would actually find and get to the villa. Walking in the area was extremely unsafe as the roads are very very narrow with fast traffic, and aggressive dogs guarding many homes. In addition, the apartment is located in the former garage of the owners home. Directly next door is the laundry room which which is constantly in use, as well as a computer/workroom which was occupied with door open and much noise until 11pm at night. Although we did have a kitchenette in the room, we didn't use it as we did not feel we had any privacy on the outdoor patio to eat or in our room. I felt the photos posted on the website were very deceiving as the property did not have a view of Capri nor any sort of privacy at all. I would not recommend this as a "romantic" stay, or convenient location for a vacation in the Sorrento/Amalfi coast area. After travelling through Italy for 3 weeks, we felt that our stay Villaromantica was the biggest disappointment. If we did return to the area we would stay in Positano or Sorrento, the slightly higher cost would definet

Lovely owners - very friendly and helpful. Bit hard to find by car but very convenient to public transport.

Our stay at Villa Romantica was fantastic. It is a really beautiful, quiet spot in the olive and lemon groves. If you enjoy walking, want to be out of town, this might be a place for you. The owners are so friendly and helpful, the scenery is georgeous and it has not been discovered by many tourist yet. Five star.

If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the place for you. The property is beautiful but a little difficult to access - 20 minute walk to Massa, 10 minute walk + 15 miunute bus to Sorrento. If you have a car, make sure it's small enough to fit between the stone walls on the "streets" that lead to the property! Otherwise Giovanni will pick you up and leave you at the train station.

Lorsque vous arrivez à Sorrento (pour notre part, en train), le propriétaire vient vous chercher en auto et vous fait déjà découvrir les alentours. Le pittoresque de l'endroit est la culture artisanale des olives, des citrons, des kiwis et autres fruits ainsi que l'environnement s'y rapportant : les petites ruelles très étroites qui ne permettent en aucun cas le passage de grosses voitures mais par contre rendent possible des multitudes de promenades dans les hauteurs jusqu'à la mer. Randonneurs, à vos chaussures. Les autres, à proscrire. Bonnes vacances à tous.

It's a really beatifull place,roads are very very narrow but our time there was wonderful.

We really enjoyed our holiday here, the family where very helpful and the appartment clear and very well equipped. On request the family provided an extra bed (recommended for teenage children). Due to the narrow driveway you should like walking alot or hire a small well insured car. The location is perfect for visiting Sorrento and the surrounding area.

It is a very good place to stay with a very good relationship Price/Quality. The only point against it has is that is it very difficult to access. There is no letter, no indications on the road and the road that leads to the place ( around 500 mts ) is extremely narrow. Only a small car could fit.

Really nice, quiet accomodation. I didn´t believe it, but you really should take a small car with you. Environment is in the hills above Massa Lubrense. An excellent place to relax in the nature. Especially in the 2person department you need good wheather to enjoy it, what you mostly have in that area.

Everything was great except the road to the house witch is rather small : a very little car (Fiat Punto for example) is hardly adviced.

This was a wonderful holiday venue, with delightful owners.It was a fantastic setting but being down a very narrow country lane we question the need for a hire car, particularly given the good public transport in the area.

Very engaged family! Nearby perfect! Only one minor thing to remark: do not use a big car to come to "Villa Romantica",the street is absolutely narrow! Best is come by train/bus the family will pick you up in Sorrento and most sightseeing tours can be made by train bus or ship!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the single room at the end of August. It was exceptionally clean and welcoming. Although there was no air conditioning, the room remained cool throughout the day and night. The family is very helpful in recommending restaurants and activities. I have only 2 complaints: the location and the view. The villa is located a few minutes away from Massa Lubrense...and it is definitely not possible to drive to the house with a normal car. As a result we were forced to walk into Massa (about 10-15)in order to do anything. Furthermore, I was looking forward to sitting on the patio and enjoying the view, but the photos of the view are not visible from the rooms, but only from the house upstairs. In fact, the only view seen from the rooms is that of olive and citrus trees! Given all considerations, though, I would definitely stay at VillaRomantica again.

My husband and I, along with another couple stayed at Villa Romantica in May 2003. Our stay was truely enjoyable. We wish we had stayed longer. We were welcomed very warmly by the family who own and run the villa. Any questions we had were happily and thoroughly answered. The apartment was spacious and clean. The location is beautiful. Our stay was very relaxing. We would highly recommend staying at Villa Romantica.

Lovely welcome people and excellent price. The problem is the access to the property. It is a nightmare. The approach is down a very very narrow lane - where we had to turn the car wing mirrors in and pray no one was coming the other way. Then an inconvenient tree on the 90 degree right turn into the drive approaching the property. This was a nightmare. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and property was excellent
