This was my second time staying at the Alegria apartments. They are situated very close to central Funchal, and the marina. This is NOT a place to stay for those who want to lounge around the hotel bar, and pool, but provides all you need as a base for exploring Funchal, and the Island. The management and staff are very friendly, and accommodating, and the facilities are sufficient, and clean.

This was a great place to stay, we had a bedroom,a separate bathroom and kitchen and a balcony next to the kitchen so we could eat outside,which my grandson and I both enjoyed.I would stay there again except for the NOISE. There is a cafe downstairs and the noise, sounding like yelling went on every evening until midnight.As well as this on one night yelling and what sounded like fighting near bye kept me awake from 3am to 5am. The expectation of a quiet and restful stay in Funchal did not happen. We were offered another room when I complained but by then my grandson had settled into this room, he loved having the outside balcony and did not want to move.

The Manager and staff were very helpful and friendly. Room basic but clean as reflected in the price. Good central location 2 mins from bus station. If on a budget, would recommend these apartments.

We had stayed at the Alegria Apartments before and knew we wanted to stay there again. This time we stayed in the sister Sao Paulo Apartments. We had a large self catering studio apartment on the top floor with a balcony with a lovely view over the town and the hillside with a distant view of the sea. As we sat on the small roof terrace drinking wine in the evening, we could see the cruise ships leaving. The apartment was wonderfully clean – the cleaner said we were her family while we stayed there! There were lovely shiny wooden floors. There were two electric rings, an electric kettle and a fridge and we were offered a microwave. Bread rolls for breakfast could be bought in the café downstairs. On the last day we had a simple but good buffet continental breakfast in the breakfast room. The street has a number of cafés and good restaurants. The town with shops, seafront and bus stops is within easy walking distance. The SAM bus station with buses to and from the airport is only 5 minutes walk away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have no hesitation in recommending the Alegria and Sao Paulo Apartments.

Check-out: it is necessary to leave the apartments not later than noon.

Additional beds are not included in the price and cost €10,00 per day.

Cancellation is accepted till 24 hours prior arrival. Otherwise 1 night
